We went to the Sea Grille because it received a majority of the "Best of Nantucket" Gold / Sivler Stars from Yesterdays Island, including best Chef, best lobster bisque and best clams. I ordered the special ,which included Yesterdays Islands "best clam chowder 2009", and the chower was pretty decent. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what would it would take to make a gold ribbon clam chowder... I've had some pretty good clam chowder in my day, and this was an even par. The ladies ordered the lobster bisque, and the only taste I had burnt the roof of my mouth; and that was after the soup was at the table for ten minutes.. The jury is still out for me if this was the best on the island... For the main course I ordered the special, which included clams, lobster tail, mussles, and scallops. I could swear the waitress said it would be served over pasta with a sauce, but when it arrive the plate was as is.... It definately could have used a white wine sauce, or red wine sauce, anything...... I was left with my main course feeling it didn't live up to everything it could have been (guys, you know what I'm talking about). The ladies ordered the free form lobster, but both agreed the Brant Point Grill was better. Overall the experience was ok.. If the Sea Grille didn't receive as many gold / silver stars as it did, I would have been more impressed. But, when I entered with the preconcieved notion that the meal was going to be "out of this world", I was let down..... On a final note, I will say that our reservation was for 6:30, and we were seated immediately, but didn't get our first round of drinks until 7:30. This place is just amazing. The food is outstanding. The service is also terrific. Especially the waiter Mark Smith. He was a very kind guy, and had a great sense of humor. Although being a seafood restaurant , Mark recommended the Oven Roast Chicken which was unbelievably delicious for a seafood restaurant. The music in the restaurant was also very smooth and relaxing. Ate out at two restaurants while in Nantucket for 7 days. Oran Mor, which we were told was the really good fancy restaurant on the island, and here at the Sea Grille. Oran Mor was ok but while the Sea Grille was definitely less fancy it definitely had the better food and better service. The fish was amazing. Both the fish special of the day and the catch of the day. The catch of the day, a tuna, had arrived about 4 hours earlier and was so fresh that it was still spicy and barely needed the little bit of searing the kitchen gave it. The special, a halibut, was cooked to perfection and in spite of us getting too much food, we were not letting that go to waste. While the rest of the food was "merely" excellent, the fish was truly amazing. But the true gold of the experience was the epically good service. I have felt the need to talk to the manager about how good a server was exactly 3 times in the last 20 years. Suzy, who served us last night, was number three. She dealt with us, a party of 8, effortlessly. In the middle of what was clearly a full house, not only did we never feel neglected, we felt like we got special attention. Refills were quick. She was very patient with my very talkative brother in law. She even answered my sister's ridiculous question about poison ivy, like it was a perfectly normal menu request. She checked on how my mother liked her drink when she noticed it wasn't in front of my mother anymore. Most important for me, my brother in law asked about gluten free bread for me, since I am intolerant, which the restaurant didn't have BUT when my salad (which included goat cheese) came she had given me raw goat cheese instead of fried to preemptively accommodate me. Truly superior service. All in all, skip the fancy restaurants and eat at the Sea Grille. It will make for a better nice night out. 5 stars all the way. read more

One of my favorite spots on island since I was a little kid. The linguica crusted cod is by far in my top 5 favorite meals ANYWHERE. We always get the bouillabaisse, lobster bisque, and the free form ravioli as well. While the prices have definitely gone up in the last year, the quality and consistency of food and service is always top notch! We were recommended to eat here during our stay and what an amazing first choice. Reservations go fast and for good reason. Our waitress was extremely friendly and the food was awesome. Really great food. Honestly, this was our 3rd choice restaurant last night (wanted to try Galley Beach and Brandt Point Grille but both were closed for weddings), so we thought to give this a try. We've eaten at what we think are some of the best spots on island (Ships Inn, Oran Mor, The Pearl) and know there are so many more to try (!) Anyway, went to Sea Grille last night, excellent dinner start to finish! Dirty martini to caramel brownie just fabulous. Had the 6 Nantucket Oyster starter (perfect!), lobster bisque (delish) and beet salad (holy cow!), then moved on to the Parmesan crusted swordfish (YUM) and Pan Seared Diver Scallops (OH YUM) finished with a carmel covered brownie that was topped with ice cream and whipped cream. Awful service. I went with my family and my boys ordered chowder for their dinner. We had apps and then waited 45 minutes for our meals. The chowder arrived and was watery. We called for the manager and sent it back. He came back with more chowder that was "freshly made to order" what do think I am a moron? No restaurant makes chowder to order. So I said well it's not acceptable and he says "what do you want me to give you something for free?" I said "do you even know what customer service is?" He says I'll take the chowder off the bill. Another delicious seafood experience at my fav Nantucket restaurant. Had a pre-Fathers Day dinner on Saturday to avoid the FD crush, but many others had the same idea. But SeaGrille came through with their typical, prompt, efficient and relaxed service. The Fried Oysters and Nantucket shellfish bouillabaisse, under a slightly different name, was perfection again, as usual. Even my wife, a non-seafood lover, raved about the Sole. I also wanted more of selection, but that was not only the Sea Grille, that was all the restaurants on the island. Sat in a corner of the bar area as a walk in and it was cozy. Brunette bartender was pleasant. The hub ordered roasted chicken and it was succulent. it's rare (as in never) that my husband looks at a menu, looks at me and says, lets just spend a lot of money tonight. He was probably kidding or else he must have really liked what he saw. And although a little pricey, I will say the food was amazing. Aside from the food which I'll get back to in a minute, the part I found weird was that it sort of felt like they weren't sure what kind of atmosphere they wanted. The price point and menu felt more like it should be a dressier, sort of date night type place but there were lots of families and kids there. Which was fine and doesn't bother me... I guess my point is that the menu and the atmosphere didn't really feel like they went together. but back to the important part... the food! We ordered the crab cakes and calamari for appetizers and really enjoyed both! For entrees, i ordered the herb gnocchi which was so delicious-highly recommend if you're not feeling like fish. My husband got the swordfish which I tried and it was also perfectly prepared! The meals were so good that I forget what we had for dessert and drinks! The food was excellent, but I wish the ambience offered more. It was an older crowd. We had reservations at 8:30 and left at 10:30 (there were 6 of us), and it was dead when we left. A little too quiet for my style, but the food made up for it. We tried the artisan cheese platter, the muscles and the calamari for appetizers. We also had the chowder and tuscan chicken soup. I ordered the little necks on house made fettuccine. It was delicious and I loved the way it was served with all the clam shells going around the perimeter of the bowl. I should have taken a picture. Everything we had was delicious. I was wowed by the crab cakes. One of the best ive had. The free form ravioli was good though I liked my friend's lobster fettuccine better.
