I have been coming here for over 5 years and this was always one my favorite vegan spots. I called around 8 pm asking when the last seating was for the night. The guy who answered told me 8:45 pm was last seating. We come in at 8:30 pm and the host says sorry we can't sit you. We are Only doing take out. I explain to her that I just called and spoke to someone and they said they could seat us if it's before 8:45 pm . She kept denying everything and I told her I could should her my call log. Kudos to the hubs for finding this place during our weekday getaway! Their tacos are bomb!!! I got the AL PASTOR TACO and BEER BATTERED AVO TACO. The al pastor style jackfruit was on point so you're getting the authentic flavor. The avo mash, red onion, cilantro, almond feta, radish, and chile lime peanuts made this taco flavorful and filling. The Beer Battered Avo Taco was reminiscent of beer battered fish taco. And I love that Seabirds sauce. It tastes great with fries also. Some places give small taco portions. Not Seabirds. They're pretty generous. My hubs got the BUTTERNUT ENCHILADAS. It was good but he thought it was pretty heavy especially the sauce. My son loved their fries. This was my first time at a vegan brunch restaurant. I ordered the biscuit bomb which seems to be a popular menu item. The first thing that surprised me was the rosemary biscuit. It was very light and fluffy and had good flavor. There was also a sauce on the biscuit that had a great balance of sweetness and savoryness. The textures of the tempeh and tofu were not my favorite but I think that's a personal issue. Everything was well cooked and well seasoned. Updating my review almost 10 years later because Seabirds is STILL amazing! This is a favorite spot for me and my dog. The outdoor seating is so nice and relaxing. My favorite thing on their menu is the grilled cheese and tomato bisque. I miss that classic combo so much, especially during the cold seasons so it's nice I can always count on getting it here. SO delicious. My second favorite things is definitely their nachos! Absolutely perfecttttt! Their chips are so crispy and the toppings all pair together sooooo well. I'm always super impressed with how they cook the jackfruit. I have yet to come here with another vegan, but all the omnivores I bring LOOOOOVE this place! I tend to get a beer when I come because they have a good selection, but their drink menu in general is great and has something for everyone. I originally wanted the Chipotle Florentine, but they ran out (it was around 2 pm). I ended up ordering the Classic Waffle with an addition (+ $3.50) of Almond Butter and Bananas. It was my first time at a vegan place but my meal was more than enough for me. The almond butter was so rich and creamy! They give us our syrup on the side so it isn't soggy by the time we get it. The other meals on the side were super filling and delicious as well. Give them a try!! Definitely swing by here for brunch/lunch! We had sat in an area where the sun bothered us and they were so quick to move us to a different table! They also made sure everything was multiple times throughout our meal. We've eaten at Seabirds in Long Beach numerous times 100% positive experiences. Mixed experience here in Costa Mesa. I had high expectations for the Beets Me Burger which was very dry and frankly, not that enjoyable. The fries were all limp and somewhat soggy, had the look of sitting around the kitchen far too long. Certainly not cooked to order. The Boss Pour IPA was excellent and provided some consolation to a disappointing meal. The four stars is largely due to the enchiladas and locals bowl, plus my very positive experiences at other Seabirds...where I will try the Beet Bowl on another visit. Unrelated to the overall experience, we followed google directions to find Seabirds, which is located essentially in an outdoor mall, The Lab. Seabirds is not visible from the street (at least we did not see it). Using google maps, search for The Lab, not Seabirds. The parking lots we could find were small and had no open spaces. I came here for brunch a few days ago. I've come to the Lab Anti-Mall many times before but not to this restaurant. Since I wanted a light meal, I just ordered the Mushroom Taco and Beer Battered Avocado Taco and asked for their house hot sauce. The beer battered avocado taco had lots of sauce and was good, but the avocado was just so big. It kept sliding off the taco due to the sauce and it felt very messy when eating. I wish the avocado was cut smaller so it could be balanced among the whole taco more easily. I really enjoyed the mushroom taco though, especially with the house hot sauce. It had a good mix of greens and mushrooms which were delicious and filling. The prices were okay and the server came around to check on us here and there. Our cute server Anastasia made lots of yummy recommendations when I asked what her favorites were. It's a good sign when staff speak about the food like they have actually tried it. I went with the tacos and chose two different ones: the grilled mushroom which was nicely spicy, and the fried avocado which I have never tried before. The avocado was pretty much as described; lightly breaded and lightly fried and mushy inside. The texture was quite nice on the outside, and the avo was creamy and delicious ding, ding, score 2 for 2. My husband opted for the grilled cheese, and I tried a few bites. Nicely browned and the American cheese was creamy and the Gruyère spread was a tasty added touch. I wanted to try another small plate so I ordered the Mac and cheese with a cashew mornay cheese sauce. Could have had a little more sauce, however, the dish, served in a large ramekin was hot and an adequate portion. It's the type of dish where you could mindlessly eat the entire serving, but it was rich so I took about half of it home in a small box. I complemented my meal with their mint lemonade, with free refills the $5.50 price was softened a bit. My husband ordered a root beer. Total price of our meal with tax and tip just about $50.00 so a little pricey but with drinks overall it was not unreasonable. They also serve desserts so if we get the chance we might return to sample one of their signature sweet additions. The spot is completely vegan and it's pretty good! I would definitely go again but I wouldn't get the tomato soup and grilled cheese. The grilled cheese does have lots of cilantro on the top. They are currently only sitting outside and they have a 90 minute limit on the tables. The service was good and because it's in the lab there's a bunch of little shops to go in after you eat. The restaurant itself does not have restrooms the restrooms are for the entirety of the lives there a bit of a walk away. The tortilla and cabbage slaw were good but the fried avocado definitely took center stage - it was amazingly light yet crispy and rich, and had such a unique flavor. I'm drooling just thinking about it! - Purple Taquitos: $8.75: an absolute must-try. The tangy, spicy sauce perfectly balanced a savory purple potato filling while the curtido added exclamation points!!! Absolutely fantastic. - Jackfruit Nachos: $16: wonderfully big portion but the flavor was just ok. The jackfruit absorbed flavors from the Mexican-inspired sauce but was rather tasteless (though juicy) on its own. There were plenty of beans and toppings. The salsa was fine. Though this one wasn't our favorite, it was still fun to eat! These dishes were more than enough to satisfy two robust and adventurous appetites. Their lemonade was also great. Awesome veggie burger! As in the best I have ever had. I understand why it was featured in the NY post. Lots of flavor. I added cheese which was vegan cheese. That added some creaminess. Plus had the house salad with it. I was not a fan of the salad dressing that came with it but liked the pickled red onions. While I tried their house made hot sauce, it wasn't spicy enough for me.
