Service was exceptional. We even met the owner--so kind--and she shared that many of the recipes come from her grandmother. Well, I can tell you... Grandma was a great cook! The Lamb Shank was rich and tender, fall-off-the-bone perfection. It came with fresh carrots and creamy homemade mashed potatoes. The Grilled Octopus appetizer was a standout. It takes a special chef to do this well, and they nailed it here--each bite was tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth good. It was served over rich, olive oil-warmed tomatoes, onions and spinach, that complemented it perfectly. We found this place only because the Eagle Bar & Grill in the same shopping center was closed--and I'm so glad we did. Thank you for the delicious food and warm hospitality. I love the fun little themed drinks and menus (fun decorations) they have for the holidays as well! Service is always great and you see the same faces every time. He said they haven't changed the amount in 20 years..... umm inflation!!! Look, this is all about setting expectations. Had we been told you won a $30 rebate off our next check, we would have been happy but that is vastly different than telling someone they won dinner for 2 where the average bill is around $80 and then telling them you're only getting $30 taken off the bill. You may want to update some of those marketing campaigns as they are not having the type of impact you are hoping for.

So when friends asked if I were interested in joining them for an art exhibit, followed by dinner at Oceano, I could not say YES fast enough. I am thrilled to say the wait was worth it. All the chips fell into place when after a small wait we were seated outside (what luck), found our waiter was from Croton-on-the-Hudson (had to wait a year before he was able to land a job at Oceano), and our food was paced perfectly. Started with the Grilled Cucumber Salad that included sumac-labneh, medjool date, berbere spice pickle, pistachio, and the Sugar snap Pea Salad of rhubarb, pecorino, stracciatella, mint, lemon, marcona almond. Next up, Pizza! Had to of course start with the Straight Shooter Pizza which was a simple pie of tomato, mozz, basil, pecorino, good olive oil. Pizza #2 was the Zuchinni Pizza, a white pie of hazelnut, lemon, asiago, mozz, parm, stacciatella. To round out the meal we had the Gnocci Sardi. This was an utterly delicious bowl of pasta that included duck confit, morels, peas, parm, creme fraiche, fines herbs, wild ramps. Super meal with smiles all around. There are two restaurants I feel are super deserving of a Michelin Star in my area, and Oceano is definitely one of them!
