We needed a snack after our drive up from Santa Barbara and found this great little spot. The Veg Head sandwich was delicious! The ingredients were fresh and tasty, and the bread was grilled instead of just toasted. We ate on the patio and enjoyed the natural beauty all around. Next up was wine tasting at Hearst, and we saw that they offer a slightly upscale menu but from the same restaurant. We originally stopped at the Hearst winery, ordered 2 flights and bought several bottles of wine. Brought our own food since we were not aware they had opened a restaurant. After a pleasant afternoon at the winery we walked over to Sebastian's to eat the food we brought. We did go inside and order pasta salad which was descent enough, so thought we would finish our lunch at the many picnic tables they have. Mind you, there were very few patrons except 2 other couples ,. Within 5 min we were shooed off the property and told to go to the park down the street. The women did not say hello or even engage our small talk just rude as ever. I don't think I will be stopping at this establishment again. Wow, I wish I would have known about this place on my past travels to Hearst Castle. The bread for their sandwiches is one of the best I've ever had soft light, but not falling apart and just very flavorful. If I can critique it, I would say the slices of meat are a bit thick for my liking, but that's my preference and overall the sandwich was amazing. What an amazing little deli/store across Highway 1 from Hearst Castle! Stopped here after the tour before heading home. Carnivores delight -Hearst Ranch beef wafting through, Hearst Ranch wine tasting and a gorgeous day! Such friendly staff- did not catch the name of the nice lady at the counter who oversaw my tasting - Rockstar! So friendly and attentive even though they got busy after we arrived. If you're lounging in the area or took the Hearst tour you'll be glad to find out that Sebastian's serves Hearst cattle beef burgers! After spending time in the visitor center we wanted to take our meal elsewhere and Sebastian's was the first place that popped up on my Yelp radar. With burgers, wine tasting, and a dog friendly outdoor area in the reviews we couldn't pass up the opportunity to check what this place was all about. Just a 2 min drive from Hearst Castle visitor center, this restaurant has a free parking lot and is only a couple mins walk away from the Hearst State Beach. TBH, when we were walking up to the register, we thought that the line would take a while, but we got our order in within 5 minutes. After ordering they give you a number and seating outdoors is first come, first serve. Once your order is ready they'll call out your number and you pick it up at the window. Water, utensils, etc are self-serve by the take out window. | FOOD | + Cheeseburger - Gotta say this burger was pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but it was a nice sized burger that left me full. It was a bit tough to eat with the shredded lettuce but the bread roll used absorbed the burger juices and sauces so other than that it held up well. + Tri-Tip Sandwich - This was a surprise winner in my book. I liked the bread used as it held up well with the pieces of tri-tip and crispy onions. The sauce was tangy and great to have on the side so we could put it on the sandwich based on our preferences. + Onion Rings - I really enjoyed the rings and they were coated perfectly and fried. The coating didn't stick on the onion rings and they didn't pull apart after one bite. My only thing with this side, is that I don't think the portion justified the price. Wish there were more than 5 rings :( They also have bathrooms located outside and wine tasting indoors. The only reason I took off one star is because we tried to order through the QR code while wine tasting at Hearst Ranch Winery and the menu had a few things out of stock. When we made our different choices, it said there was a problem with completing the order so we had to walk over and place in person. Those things that were out of stock on the QR code were available...that's how I was able to get the yummy sandwich! We also ended up being charged for the first order we placed that said it did not go through. So instead of it being about a $50 meal, it was $90 for two separate orders which we weren't looking to take home food or spend that much for lunch. The chili topped fries are a must for a table to share. Beer and wine available from the Sebastian winery that shares the space. They also have homemade soup and salads for those none beef eaters. The meat comes from the still operational Hearst Castle family ranch that is less than 10 min away so about as fresh free range beef you can get. Sebastian's is the "go to" place for a bite to eat if you're going to visit Hearst Castle. We had a party of 8 and just finished the Las Piedras Blancas lighthouse tour. It was almost 1:00PM and we were all starving. Our first tour at Hearst Castle wasn't until around 2:00PM so we had time to take a lunch break. It was a nice and sunny day in December so we decided to all sit outside. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Sandwich with fries and drink and my husband got the BBQ Chicken Salad with avocado. Our food did not take that and when I first laid eyes on my chicken sandwich it was HUGE. The bread along was ginormous and the pieces of chicken inside were plentiful.There were pickled red onion inside. I had a hard time eating my sandwich and actually could not finish eating all the bread. (ended up picking out the chicken). My husband's BBQ chicken salad was also a large portion and on point. I kind of regret not ordering the burger (grass-fed happy cow) instead. My friend ordered it and it looked delicious. They have a unisex restroom which is outside.
