I LOVE the live music at this venue. Truly. We have had so many fun nights here. But came up pretty disappointed tonight when the Green came to play. We admit, we didn't buy tickets. Which I think you had to know to know. But after standing at the front of the GA line for 2 hours and being told "maybe you'll get in" and watching 5 people leave, then 3-5 people the bouncer knew be let in immediately was kind of the worst. About 1 hour into the concert, the IG team came through and made sure to video the 40+ people in line who would never get in to build up their hype. Excellent marketing. I'll be back because honestly they play a ton of local artists and djs regularly and I like to think our money goes to them. But buyer beware. The vibe in the restaurant is great but the service is really slow and not on their game. Online it said they had a huge selection of pancakes (why we came because we wanted pancakes for breakfast) and when we arrived they said they didn't do that. Luckily they had some on the kids menu so we just did that but super disappointed considering it says they have it online. The food was great - fresh fruit, good fluffy pancakes. Service just could be better. My dog loves coming here for pup cups, but on our last visit, something unexpected happened. After we left and were walking around, he got a splinter in his paw. Since he's a three-legged dog, it can be difficult for him to balance while I check his feet, so l brought him back hoping someone could help. Angely immediately stepped in and was so kind and helpful. While I held him up, she helped remove the splinter from his little paw and made the whole situation so much less stressful. We came here to check out their happy hour deal. Considering it was only $12 get a maitai and personal sized pizza, I thought this was a great HH deal. Maitai itself was mostly a premixed drink, maybe juice?, that was sprayed into the cup and then a layer of rum was added to the top. It was decent for what it was. The pizza was actually pretty tasty and well made for how simple it was. I think the pizza was actually the highlight for me. The interior is really nice with a lot of art work. Hana Koa has some great beers you could put on tap! Food is ok, cheap for happy hour. The pizza might be the best thing. Every once in a while they will bring you some popcorn (for free). If you want a great night club vibe, go in the evening for the live music. Same awful beers, but dancing is fun. Cocktails aren't great, overly sweet, not enough alcohol. Also turns into a late night bar vibe in the evenings. Felt like a skate shop/surfer beach house hangout spot. The first time we went there, service was a struggle bus. Most of the servers (6 of them) were congregated at the cashier area chatting away. We had 3 different people touch our table and we were the only ones in there. Though, the second time, it was much more organized and orchestrated in that 1 person out of 4 touched our table, and everything was fast and efficient. The food is on par with what's offered in Waikiki. Standard breakfast items in that the sandwiches come with a choice of salad or chips. The breads from the case were way too dry. The waffle had a mochiko like consistency, very bouncy and chewy, which I personally liked. The benedicts are served on 1/2 of a bagel, which left me hungry and wanting more. The benedicts and avocado toast automatically comes with a side salad. When you dine for lunch, happy hour, dinner, they provide you with a complimentary small boat of popcorn with kakimochi, nothing fancy. Though the acai bowls are yummy! For those of you with nut-allergies, I can confirm that the granola does not have nuts in them. Overall, if there was consistent service, a whole bagel served for the benedict, and moist breads from the bread case, I would give this place a 5-star. read more

Breakfast in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii - on a Sunday... Motivated by Jackie K.'s review, photos, and check-in, I decided at the last minute to get breakfast at Secret Spot Honolulu. I happened to wake up super early (before my alarm) and wanted to be productive. I thought that I could find free parking on a Sunday, but Ala Wai Boulevard was crowded already, and the yellow loading zones are 24 hours in Waikiki. Shucks! I found metered street parking in front of the Romer House Hotel and paid $3 for an hour via credit card. Ouch. LOL! Next time, I'll park at a better place! (Wink, wink) The bartender gave me a good parking tip! On a whim, I texted Irene M. and asked if she wanted to join... she got there right after I did! Yippee! We had a lotta fun taking lots of photos because there's cute decor everywhere! I got the Berry (açai) Bowl - it had fresh blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, granola, bee pollen, and honey - yum! It was so beautiful, especially with a kawaii paper umbrella! I also got a Coco Choco Latte, which had a coconut flavor with Mocha and chocolate... like a Mounds candy bar! Mmm! I liked everything! Service was really friendly, especially because we are Kama'aina and sat at the bar! (If you don't know what Kama'aina is, that means you're not... and cannot get discount!) Yes check out this newbie on Kuhio right next to Laylow and as I walked in immediately it felt like deja vu and said it reminded me of The Gallery which is where it moved to...ahhhh! Though they don't have a designated parking there are some metered parking, next door at the International Market Place but the search is very worth the reward and thank you Nadine C for the call as I was recovering from a hard work week...the mood was exhaust but I flew over as this Spot was on my mind and couldn't believe she was headed there. The vibe is very similar with The Gallery and working with a much larger space made it work in so many ways as I saw Nadine grab at seat at the bar it didn't begin to describe what they have to offer with each seating area like a private spot as I browsed around and actually picked up a shirt and some stickers the creativity here is just something to behold. I noticed under the bar seating to see skateboard wheels as bag hooks along with outlets oh my gosh that just totally made it my kind of place. I decided on the Turkey Pesto sandwich which was good along with "Purple Haze" which is a Red Bull infused drink hoping it'd give me the much needed energy to kick start my day. Hot and New place on Yelp. My walking buddy and I decided to try Secret Spot Honolulu! We are happy we did! It's located behind the front of the Laylow Autograph Collection hotel (See Craig T's review for more information). You will need to walk behind the valet and hotel, and you will find a somewhat hidden staircase to reach this Secret Spot. I surmise that could be the reason for its name? It's hidden away. The Secret Spot is a cool, artsy, upbeat place to have coffee, breakfast and brunch and much more. The website (www.secretspothonolulu.com) states that it is "A hidden gem located in the heart of Waikiki, we're dishing up the best of Hawaii. Our stage lights up nightly with homegrown talent, from soulful slack key to high-energy reggae. Between sets, feast your eyes on our rotating gallery of fresh island art. We've got walls full of local creativity that'll make you say "Wow!"" Cool music (could be a little softer in the breakfast and brunch hours) during your meal. Difficult to hear each other's conversation. This place rocks bright and colorful artwork throughout! From wall art, posters, stand alone pieces, even some of the seating areas are very hipster and artsy. Your eyes will dance around this place! The breakfast and brunch menu is simple. Sweet or savory and a few more items in between. Many coffee choices here. They use Hawaiian Paradise coffee. Our coffee orders were the Aroma Special, Dolce & Banana Iced and a Caramel Macchiato Hot. The iced coffee is very delicious and on the sweet side. The CM came with interesting coffee art (see photos) however, the hot coffee was more lukewarm upon arrival. I asked for the coffee to be heated up. For some reason, my coffee ended up at another table, so it was remade for me. Coffee: 4/5 stars For our brunch order, we selected the Specialty Waffles. I ordered the traditional waffle (less the bananas) and the Green Tea waffle. See menu photo for details. I really enjoyed both waffles, we tried each other's waffle lol. Both tasty and freshly made. Light and not overly sweet. Fresh fruits (strawberries and blueberries) with a side of whip cream and syrup were just right. The Green Tea waffle was nicely done and had a slightly chewier texture. The green tea is mixed into the waffle batter. The GT waffle even came with ice cream! 4/5 stars. Ambiance rated 4.5/5 stars. If only the music was softer, I would rate it a 5 star experience. Service was great, with the exception of the misplaced coffee ; ). Service was timely and our food order came out quickly. Smiles abound and continued checks on how everything was going. That's how we were able to let a server know about the lost coffee. A quick replacement coffee was made for me. Service: 4/5 stars There are bathrooms available outside the restaurant. You will need a code to enter. Don't forget which way you turned to locate the restroom, or you may get lost on the return. Would we come here again? Yes! We parked at the International Marketplace. We needed to spend $25 to have our parking ticket validated. No problem since we picked up bentos from Mitsuwa Marketplace. Cost of parking with validation was $2.00. Street parking is also available. Keep looking around for nearby places that validates your ticket with a small purchase. read more
