The place used to be something else, it has since been remodeled, new owners, new menu, friendly staff and definitely yummy food. This place has only been open a month and was pretty empty when we showed up for lunch. Hopefully people discover it soon because it's so good! We tried a variety of tacos and they were all delicious. The highlight was the birria - so tender and delicious. Or maybe it was the deliciously fresh slaw on the shrimp taco. We also got a horchata and Jamaica. Both were just the right level of sweetness. My son chugged his horchata even before his meal came. But bonus! They gave him a free refill. Sed Cocina is fantastic! I started with a cup of Café de Olla, perfectly sweetened with piloncillo, and a plate of the conchitas, which paired beautifully with the coffee. For my main, I had the Huevos Rancheros, and they were incredible -- the tortillas were perfectly crisped, and the verde salsa was so flavorful. I didn't add any meat, but the flank steak I saw on other customers' plates looked amazing -- definitely something I'd try next time. This restaurant isn't local for me, but if I'm in the area again, I'll absolutely be back. Highly recommended! read more

Went to breakfast with some girlfriends and wanted to meet in the middle. Stumbled across this cute little spot tucked in the corner of a strip mall. The interior of the restaurant was clean and cute. It was empty when we went (9ish AM on a weekday) and we were served promptly. I had coffee and these beautiful churro pancakes (and eggs, bacon, and potatoes). The food was really good. Service was fast. Will return again to try something new. read more

On A Hot Day. Add Water They serve you water in beautiful water glass bottles! Outside of that the lady that serves is always so kind. Thank you Sarah. We ordered the Surfin Butritto And my wife ordered the Dirty Burrito. That just means the sauce it comes with is delicious. Hahaha Last time I came I brought Dr. Mark and we ordered the OG Burrito. Their burritos are great and they put cheese a hard shell of cheese on the outside of the burrito. Making it unique and special. I love supporting local mom and pop business and because I do believe that this Spot in Monclair is among the best! Great Mexican food! Clean and delicious and had a bit of a trendy light feeling with the lighting and colors. Great job Cocina! Places of improvement though there is hardly any so I am stretching here but a kids menu section would be good for kids. They have a kids breakfast section but not for lunch or dinner. Also instead of plastic cups serve your water in glass cups and that experience will be without cloud and scratches. read more

SeD is located in a small plaza in Montclair. I stopped by around noon on a Saturday and there were a handful of parties waiting in front of mine. For a party of 2, we waited about 30 minutes to be seated, although not all tables were occupied and perhaps the current staffing couldn't accommodate the amount of customers. Once seated, the ambiance in the restaurant was warm, well-lit, and with friendly staff. At times, service seemed behind with ordering and providing utensils. SeD serves breakfast all day and also has a lunch menu. I ordered the 2 shrimp tacos which comes with flour tortillas, beans, and rice which were delicious! The shrimp tacos were divine, perfectly cooked and paired well with a crema and the typical taco accoutrements. The beans had a subtle spice that was delightful. I ordered the café de olla which was on the pricier side ($5.99), but it was sweet, had a strong cinnamon flavor, and unlimited refills. Overall, the dishes and drinks were great for brunch, with mostly good service. There's plenty of parking available. If in the area, I'd return to try their breakfast dishes! read more

This is a super good little restaurant. It has the same food vibes as cocina35 in San Diego. I was pleasantly surprised the ingredients were extremely fresh. I had the huevos rancheros. It had a little different spin. It was delicious. The service was outstanding as well. read more

This meal was unreal from the first bite to the last. Everything was cooked perfectly and packed with bold, authentic flavor. The birria was incredibly tender and juicy, with a rich, deep sauce that was savory, comforting, and addictive. Dipping each bite into that consommé took it to another level. The crispy, golden tortilla had the perfect crunch without being greasy, and the fresh toppings balanced everything beautifully. The rice and beans were spot on--simple, flavorful, and the perfect complements to the main dish. You can tell this food is made with care and pride. The food here was really good and everything tasted delicious. The servers were very nice and polite, and overall we had a pleasant experience. The only downside was that they forgot a few things throughout the meal--like utensils, straws, and some small items we asked for--so we had to remind them a couple of times. Nothing major, but it did slow things down a bit. Prices were on the higher side, but the quality of the food made it worth it. I'd still recommend trying this place out! read more

If you haven't been to Sed Cocina yet, you're seriously missing out! This spot is a hidden gem in Montclair serving up some bomb brunch and now even better with Oli's Tacos on the menu! Let's start with the tres leches waffles -- absolutely insane. Sweet, soft, and soaked just right without being soggy. Each bite is dessert-level delicious. I also tried the TED Toast, and wow. It comes loaded with fresh guac, a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg, and tender skirt steak. It's savory, satisfying, and definitely one of my new go-to orders. And the cherry on top? They're now serving Oli's Tacos! If you know, you know. The locals are hyped for a reason -- these tacos are fire. Super flavorful, juicy, and worth the trip alone. Food was okay. The portions are good and the menudo was good. The concha's tasted a bit stale. The cafe de olla was okay, it needed a bit more coffee and the green salsa that came with the birria tacos was a little too salty. Service was not great. We got called in almost at 1pm. We had been waiting an about 40 minutes to get seated because it is a small place. Food came out quick however, when we finished I was still drinking my coffee and there were people in another table that had been there since before we even got seated and we were asked to leave. We understand it's a small place but we spent maybe 20 minutes eating why couldn't you rush the people who had been there since before we even got there. Please warn your customers you're going to be rushed out the door. Or have a sign saying there's a time limit. read more

I discovered this place on Tik Tok and wanted to try it out with my family. Sadly I do not think we will be returning. I will start with the good and then the bad. First off the food was delicious!! I'm very picky about my breakfast spots especially Mexican or Latin spots. Though I will say the food was quiet tasty. We got an order of the sampler with three different tacos, chilaquiles, pancakes, and chips and guacamole. The food was good, though the wait times were actually ridiculous! Moving onto why I put three stars is because the service was extremely SLOW!!!!!! I also want to say I do NOT BLAME THE EMPLOYEES at all!!! I completely understand they can only do their best with what's at hand. I truly felt bad for the one waitress because she had all the tables to serve, take drinks to, have to take orders, and do everything. There was eventually help later but poor lady was doing everything by herself! So we arrived at 11:17 and didn't actually eat till 1:17!! 2 hours later !!! I wish the lady in the front was more transparent about the wait time. Let the customers decide if they want to wait, not give them an unrealistic wait time (which we were told 30-40 mins). I wasn't expecting the employees to rush other customers to eat or magically make new tables appear. I just wish she would've been more transparent about the wait time and let us decide what we wanted to do (because she was also telling EVERYONE it was 30-40 mins). Which mathematically doesn't add up if you are telling everyone 30-40 mins?? So finally when we sit down, we were informed that only one waitress was working. 5 mins go by... 10 mins...then 15 and now 20 mins go by and no one has came to our table to even get our drinks. Once again I truly felt bad for the waitress!! Finally we have to flag someone down to just get our drinks. We ordered an appetizer of chips and guacamole thinking it will come out before our food but of course there was another delay and all the food came out together. By then we were just hungry and just wanted to eat and leave. So all-in-all, I just want to say I DO NOT BLAME THE STAFF!! They can only do so much!! I blame the management for putting all that on one waitress!! That is so unrealistic and unfair to her ! She ends up getting the short end of the stick because she is the one dealing with the hungry and angry customers!! So I hope this reaches management and they can change some things! All the staff was very friendly and once again I do not blame the waitress or even the cooks or anyone working!! It appears the staff is extremely hard working but just need help especially at peak times like Saturday mornings!! I blame management for allowing that to happen! We would've loved to return but the wait time was just ridiculous! Also my plate came with burnt onions! By that time I was so hungry and didn't even bother asking for a new taco because I didn't want to wait again. read more

Not only did it seem like there was significantly less food, but with all the ingredients piled together, some items ended up overcooked. One word review: HOLYSHIT. Look, they have a sign outside that says "Best Chilaquiles in the I.E.", so being a good Southern Californian, I ordered them one up with a coffee expecting yet another mediocre restaurant-made chilaquiles plate. Nope. My wife and I were served up no more than five minutes after having ordered with that I can only describe as a bowl of chilaquiles you'd receive from the homie's mom when you were a kid. Soggy chips? Not at all. Sauce? Damn good, but not overpowering. Onion and cilantro? Fresh, and plated in a way that adds a little fancy to the familial kitchen vibe. That red sauce, though... I requested a small side of the red sauce because I always order my chilaquiles with the green stuff, and the red came in a soup bowl. Not a little plastic cup, not a small saucer, a fucking 16oz bowl. AND IT WAS DELICIOUS. Seriously. It's sitting in my fridge here at the office and I cannot wait to dig into it as soon as I get home. I don't know what I'm making for dinner tonight, but that red sauce is going on top of it. Fantastic Lunch at SeD Cocina My wife and I stopped by SeD Cocina for lunch after seeing a video showcasing their food, and we're glad we decided to give it a try. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the quaint café atmosphere. The restaurant was clean, nicely decorated, and had a warm, inviting feel. The staff greeted us right away and made us feel genuinely welcomed. We didn't have to wait at all and were seated immediately, which made for a great start to our visit. To begin, we shared the esquite, which was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. It was the perfect appetizer to get our meal started. For my entrée, I ordered the Chile Relleno Burrito with Carne Asada. The carne asada was perfectly seasoned, and I loved the lightly grilled exterior of the burrito, which added great texture and flavor. My wife ordered the Chilaquiles Verdes, and they were exceptional easily some of the best we've had. The flavors were balanced perfectly, and it was a standout dish of the meal. I also ordered the chorizo bowl, and it was so delicious that it has officially become my go-to order. You also have to try their dirty horchata--it is absolutely delicious, made to perfection, and runs about $7 for a 12-ounce cup. It's a fantastic blend of traditional horchata, cinnamon, and coffee. I did have the pico de gallo removed though haha. And I actually really enjoyed how flavorful everything was with each bite! I would definitely order them like that again! Went with the Baja shrimp tacos that were lightly fried but grilled is also an option . The Chipotle sauce was good, and the size of the tacos were filling with 3 . They also have an outdoor patio for seating which on cooler evenings look appealing. The crowd is a nice mix of college, families and people looking to have a nice evening . Would recommend it to someone wanting to try a new place .

The quality of the food has always been consistent, and the prices are still great! Whether it's the flavorful menudo, hearty breakfasts, fresh tostadas, or a hot cup of coffee, everything is always delicious and made with care. Unfortunately, on several occasions, I've either received only two sauces for an entire chicken or no sauces at all. I'll admit, it's partly my fault for not checking the bag before leaving, so I've now made it a rule to double check every order before I go. Today, I ordered a whole chicken and a double salad. When I picked up my order, I noticed there were several containers of sauce in the bag, so I felt the containers and assumed there was a mix of salad dressing and the yellow and green sauces. I didn't open the bag to check. Unfortunately, when I got home, I realized that all the containers were salad dressings and there wasn't a single yellow or green sauce for the chicken. 7 salad dressing containers. The food itself is great, which is why I keep coming back. This review is really for the young staff working there, please slow down for a second and double check the orders before handing them to customers. Missing sauces might seem like a small thing, but when they're one of the best parts of the meal, it makes a big difference. Hopefully, this helps prevent it from happening to other customers. I'll definitely be checking my bag before I leave from now on.

When I bit into it, I was wondering why there were pieces and thought they cut up the fish (?) only to realize it was shrimp. Before I ate my taco, I made sure to put some lime on my ceviche to "cook" it a little bit with the acid because the shrimp is a little too "raw" for my liking. It also comes with tostada chips / shells. And I was also given a bottle of crema, hot sauce (?) and some sort of brown sauce (sorry I dont know what this is called but it's delicious!). Halfway thru my meal, I noticed the gentleman was served those Mexican pinwheel shaped chips. As I was paying, I asked the lady what he was eating. She said they're called chicharones de harina. I asked her if it's free or he ordered it. She said it's free and asked me if I wanted some to go. Service needs some improvement. Although the waitress did check on me from time to time, she never asked me for a water refill - and clearly my cup was empty. Also when I arrived, why was I not offered the chicharrones de harina and the gentleman in front of me got some right when he arrived. The ambiance was chill and quiet. There are 4 Tabs which I'm sure this place gets busy on game days. Definitely a place to check out for the ceviche.

Our food was delivered about two minutes later And again, no one ever came back. We had to flag down another server for boxes and our check. The food wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't say it was good, either. More just edible. The extreme amount of MSG made it extremely offputting and left a bad aftertaste in my mouth. We really wanted to love this place since it's only about seven minutes from our house... But unfortunately, we will not be back.
