Getting past the super sweet frosting, the lemon ricotta bit exceeded expectations. Rustic bread loaf, however, was like biting into a slab of cement. It was picked out by the owner when I asked for a whole grain option. Perhaps she was well-meaning. Extraordinarily hard, even for rustic. I carried a brick home. Be aware that cutting this is so tough that you might almost stab yourself. Nonetheless there were remnants of flavor and nice density inside that would have been awesome if not so hardened. Most of their loaves favor the sourdough spectrum. Greater variety and softness would be nice. Like the bread, the can owner veer toward seeming somewhat surly and un engaging when asked questions. She seemed to tolerate, "Which loaf do you recommend?" Business is good. Time to talk is limited. Coffee was middle of the road. A lot of pastries are $6. Bread loaves, though potentially brick-esque, are at the standard and more reasonable market rate of $7ish. In hindsight, I recommend being assertive at the window and not taking whatever is handed to you loaf-wise before paying. Don't let the soup nazi vibes intimidate. Hands down, my favorite bakery in Pasadena area. Seed uses organic grains, fresh levain (no commercial yeast), and a long fermentation period. I've tried everything from scones to croissants to hand pies and empanadas from Seed, and they knock it out of the park every single time. After trying their Twist Croissant with cinnamon and cardamom, I had it on my mind for days!!! Their offering is both classic and unique, including chocolate croissants and traditional bread loaves, or a unique seasonal guava scone for just that particular day. Yes, you will likely have to wait in line. Yes, it ain't the cheapest (I would argue that for the quality ingredients, freshness, and general mastery, the price is within the realm of fair). Yes, as other reviews have mentioned, there is one particular female employee (owner?) who can be...a bit curt. (PS- every other employee I've encountered is very friendly and helpful!) I like to remind myself that we never know what others are going through in their lives. Patience and tolerance is key. The items I ordered were fresh and packaged well but I felt they could've been more flavorful. I ordered the avocado toast which was a generous portion. The oregano sprinkle on top made it taste bitter. The granola with yogurt and fruit was a generous portion but the granola appeared over cooked and could've had some honey drizzle to sweeten it up. Came across this bakery while driving in the neighborhood. Pulled over and thought I'd check it out. Stood in line and ordered from the walk up counter. Wanted to get a loaf of sour dough bread and saw they had a pretty good list of items. Nothing was priced and when I asked the price I was told seven dollars but was charged eight. I was told after it was because the loaf that I got was more. It's a dollar. It's fine, but the clarity felt like they were doing me a favor when I asked. I went a second time and ordered a different loaf and some other items and it was a different woman at the counter. But same hard attitude. The bread is good. But the customer service can be better. The hard attitude is a bit off putting for me second time around. Especially when most businesses are trying to stay afloat and I love supporting local. read more

I like Seed Bakery and have been wanting to come by during the stay in. They have a great walk up system where you line up six feet apart/ mask required, and order. They have arranged the pastries so that they are displayed in the window near the sidewalk (absolutely wonderful). They accept debit, I did not try cash. I waited about 10 or less minutes and this is with order wait. The iced mocha was amazing but the chorizo empanada was just okay. More a reflection of the service from one person in particular ( I don't know her name) who is grumpy, unfriendly and kind of impatient when you have questions and generally not the best person to have fronting your business. Who knows, they may even own the business? If this is the case they need to change their attitude, if not then the employer needs to talk to this particular member of staff and set them straight. Beware: So a friend recommended this bakery and I decided to give it a try. After I got home I was shocked to find a caterpillar in my sandwich. When I called, a woman picked up the phone and was very nice and kind about giving me a refund if I returned the sandwich. So I drove the sandwich and caterpillar back. Only then is when we met with Joseph, who asked us, "haven't you had worms in your food before? This is what happens when you have organic and fresh greens." First and foremost, NO, obviously I have not had this issue before AND I do have a phobia of caterpillars. Shouldn't they make sure to wash their organic greens well before making her sandwich? Didn't need to be so rude... It's not her fault you didn't wash your greens well! And no it's NOT normal for her or me to find worms in our food! Gross! We've never had this issue at other places. It's a cute bakery that can get pretty crowded near the register but it looked like they had additional seating in the back. All of their bakery items looked so good and you could see them baking more in the back. They have breakfast items that I believe are available until 3 pm, sandwiches and salads. I ordered the roasted squash and avocado salad and man, was my mind blown. I always forget that veggies can be eaten cold. The squash looked burnt but it had great flavor and the cauliflower tasted like it had been soaked in a sauce. The description said it came with chili oil but it wasn't spicy at all. Working in Pasadena, I was pleased to find this gem in the neighborhood. This is my second visit and so far the experience has been fabulous. Love the convenient location and ample parking in back lot. The restaurant decor is quaint and cozy, with hints of rustic country decor. Everything is reasonably priced. Menu has a lot of breakfast and lunch options, so it was tough to decide what to get! Plus you walk right into a display of their beautiful and delicious baked goods and pastries, which makes it even more difficult. I usually ask the staff for advice, who very are helpful and knowledgeable. Their chili relleno toast from their special menu caught my attention the first time here. It's stuffed Anaheim peppers with cheese, avocado, cilantro and fried egg, served on top of rustic bread. The most gorgeous looking chili relleno ever and tastes good as it looked. My recent encounter with their terragon chicken sandwich is just as good. Classic chicken salad mixed with mayo served on rustic sourdough bread. This place is semi walking distance from our apartment. It's a bit of a weird setup but if you go often enough it's no biggie. You wait in line along the bakery case to see the goods and once you get closer to the counter they'll take your order. Everything I've had here has been delicious. Their menu is pretty much based on the pasties they make which are great. The prices are reasonable and are aligned with other trendy bakeries. They have seating inside and outside but both are limited. There is parking out back and some street parking up front. read more
