I only tried the pastries and it's very good. We're from San Gabriel and was worth the drive and the traffic.

Seed bakery is a consistently reliable source of fresh baked breads that go perfectly with any meal of the day! After my first visit, we were coming back every week. The baguettes are just $4 and so much better than any store bought ones. They have several sizes of ciabatta loaves, which are also excellent. Seed has basically become our exclusive source of bread. But I think the item I love the most at Seed Bakery is their croissants. Plain, pain au chocolate, almond... they're SO flakey, delicious, and well made. The almond croissant has a lot of marzipan in it. The monkeybread croissant and morning bun are also amazing. Morning bun is basically a cinnamon bun but with croissant dough and orange zest. It's basically just a window, and they usually have a canopy set up by the window where you can place your order and pay with a card or apple pay. There's often a line, even before it opens, but it moves fast. The window facing Washington has all their pastries on display. There are so many I have yet to try, can't wait to try them all! read more

Fresh Olive bread. Oh the texture was so exquisitely moist and packed with delicious flavor. It was perfect in every way. There were plenty of juicy olives sprinkled throughout the perfectly spongy bread with a delightfully crispy crust... It was so blissful. I ate half of the loaf while sitting in the car, waiting for my wife to run into the store! If only I could do this every week. read more

As a coffee lover, I'm willing to drive to a coffee shop that is recommended or I see on social media... saw this spot and decided to try... SO i must say this place is not worth trying... and may be over rated.... Pricy menu... coffee is good, but not worth 4 dollars for such a small cup.... and doesn't make you say hmmmmmm... (know what I mean?) Not your typical sit-down place, order thru a window/door, then pick up on the other side... SO eat anywhere you can or take your food home Got a meat empanada that wasn't that good and a little bit bigger than Nonas empanadas for 7 dollars Yes 7... thats the most I've spent on an empanada lol... AND...you would think it would be warm?! NOPE, it was cold...good amount of meat (but not worth it)... Nonas is better I order a Frittata for 13 dollars + tax... good, but not good enough to come back!.. For those like myself who still like to pay wirh cash... its card only NO CASH, so be prepared Can't say anything about the staff... didn't interact besides paying and them calling out my name when the food was ready.... I have this place bookmarked for a while now and today while I was in Pasadena for work I stopped by to check it out. The bread and the baked good looked really good. I loved the chile relleno empenada. So flavorful and flaky and delicious. The everything pretzel was ok but the jalapeño cheese was awesome. I got a loaf of sourdough that's delicious. They also have food items but I didn't order anything from that menu. The avocado toast with za'atar sounded delicious. I got an iced latte and was a bit disappointed that they serve it in a paper cup, at least they could use a clear plastic cup from smart and final. Also the fact that there is no seating area or you cant get inside a store is not appealing to me. All this deliciousness and no place to enjoy it. It has a wholesaler feeling to it but with high prices. I do wish they make it into a cafe so people can enjoy their foods even more. They got the food part right all it needs is a cute storefront at least. read more

Seed is our favorite go to spot after church. The squash salad and pulled pork sandwich is to die for. The service is like no other, Matthew and the rest of the staff are so friendly and welcoming. They always go above and beyond to make my day. Since the pandemic their dining room is closed so you can only get take out. read more

I like supporting small stores instead of company chains but the reviews calling this bakery "world class" were maybe written before 2020? And maybe it used to be better? The old pictures of the inside look nice. But some of those old pictures show old menu prices; they're higher now. $6 over-baked pasties, and standing on the sidewalk of busy Washington Blvd waiting for coffee & food to be handed through a door like we're still in the middle of the pandemic is silly. Returned once more for the breakfast burrito. If you like a lot of salty ham more than egg, you might really enjoy the hefty $16 burrito. read more

Crispy, buttery, flaky, crust! We love Seed and are obsessed! We've gone many times and have never been disappointed. Our absolute favorite is the almond croissant. These sell out quick! The earlier you go, the better. Another favorite is their quiche! You get a hefty slice filled with tons of seasonal vegetables, and again, a buttery, flaky, crust. A friend recently recommended this place & I still can't get over the fact that I haven't heard of it before especially having grown up in Pasadena. The bakery is strictly to-go orders only & has such a wide variety of items so give yourself lots of time for deciding. We tried both sweet & savory pastries as well as the Beet Salad. Everything was delicious! The Beet Salad was so packed full of flavors & the portion was also very generous that we were able to split it into 4 servings. Ample parking in the back. Definitely looking forward to my next visit to this Pasadena gem! read more

Their bread really elevates your everyday sandwich to new heights. The pastries were some of the most delicious I've had too. The almond croissant has a buttery flaky interior. There is a moment when you first realize that your parents are normal human beings and not the extraordinary fantasy superheroes you dreamed they were; when you first notice that they aren't perfect and are, in fact, deeply flawed like everyone else. Yes, they may still have some perfect parts, but they also have some sketchy broken parts too. That is when that something special we held onto inside goes away and we are left with melancholic disappointment. That happens with places too. And it happened to me on a recent visit to Seed Bakery. In my head I had an illusion that so seldom holds true: a place so pure and transcendental, with impeccable vibes and idealistic values. Integrity is so hard to come by these days, and Seed Bakery seemed to have it. But just like our parents, our favorite places are also a little bit broken. Ordering here causes me so much distress. I wish they had a number system where you could just grab a number and they would call it out when it was your turn to order. That would be fair and calming. But no such thing exists. And we are at the inclinations of line busters, particularly men with ugly mustaches who always have the worst manners and care about nothing but themselves. I always tell myself now that if I want to keep looking up to my heroes, then I should make sure to never meet them. Because they always end up not being who I thought they were. The baked goods are out of this world! The ambiance is a little iffy, but the taste of the food makes up for it.

My girlfriend and I love coming here. The quiche is one of our favorites and we always love trying the new pastries they have. Most recently the vegan chocolate cake with pear was excellent as well as the strawberry pistachio croissant. read more

My friend recommended this small hole in the wall cafe & bakery for their amazing pastries, so me and my friend came by for brunch after our weely Pasadena Rose Bowl run. After debating what I wanted for a good while, I ended up ordering the Chile relleno toast ($10.50), a strawberry jam croissant pastry ($5), and a Honey shortbread with pumpkin seeds ($3). The pastries were really good, especially the strawberry jam croissant. They have alot of gluten free desserts so that was cool. The toast was pretty good too. Total was ~$20. Interior is small and the tables are small too, so maybe not the best place for larger groups. read more

They still make the best real 100% rye bread in the world. It looks like brick and weights like brick (and this is how it supposed to be!), but tastes like haven. Btw, the second best rye bread bakery in the world is in London, UK at the Whole Foods on High Street Kensington. Hope they'd go back to being open for dinning in soon! read more

Long time no review but this one must be heard. It's unfortunate when a shop, through customer's word of mouth, becomes popular decides they're now too good to fail. This is one such case. Bought 2 loaves, olive boule and spelt loaf $7 a piece and $4 crossants. Spelt loaf- the outside was really dark and hard to cut and eat. Inside was dense and sticky. Tasted sour and that was it. Olive boule- first off it was closer to a disc then a boule. Flat, dense, wet and hard outside (I'm not calling it crust because there was nothing crusty about it) Sigh... I took the bread back to confirm whether this was an anomaly or their regular bakes... turns out this is how their bakes are normally. That's what the baker man told me anyway... He also told me: depending on what kind of weather you have the bread will turn out differently. So the bread I bought rosed too fast because it was hot. That's why its denser. Today is cooler so they'll rise slower.... so if you want decent bread go there ONLY on cool days. He said many things and to me they all sounded like sad justification for subpar bread. I felt like I was being schooled actually. At the end I confirmed once more that the bread i got was the way their bread is supposed to be. To which he confidently said "yes!" I told him I didn't like it. His response: "ok, that's fine." See, they think they're too good to fail... I get it, mistakes happen. I honestly think the bread that day were all over baked. The crossants were so dry it lower the humidity in our house! They could've made a better choice with customer service tho. But they're popular, so who cares about one unsatisfied customer? So $32 worth of bad breads with a large side of disappointment and incredulity... I'd be an idiot to return. Bread buyers beware... read more

The quality of Seed Bakery's bread and pastry is excellent. I respect how they make bread and pastries fresh each day. This means that their stock is smaller batch and usually sells out. If you want a more popular loaf (baguette, ciabatta, brioche, etc.) expect to get to the bakery earlier (9-10am is a safe bet). I've come at 1pm and most of those loaves have been gone, especially on weekends. For pastry recommendations, the almond croissant is filled with rich almond cream, sometimes you need dessert for breakfast:) The morning bun is scented with orange zest and isn't too sweet. The pain au chocolate and croissant are really flaky and light. For bread, the multigrain seed loaf is really satisfying and has a nice tang from the sourdough leaven. The baguettes are really crispy and chewy. Since it's real bread it's best eaten fresh that day. But, you can slice and freeze leftovers, they toast up pretty well for a few more days. read more

Seed Bakery, please take all of my money. I stop by this spot once every one or two weeks to pick up everything under the sun - pastries, freshly baked loaves of sourdough bread, quiche, all of it! I can confidently say that I have never disliked anything that I've picked up from this bakery. All pastries/breads are made fresh every morning (I suggest hitting it up earlier in the day to guarantee a good selection). They are always busy....like there's a line queuing up before they open busy. Walk up to the front to check out their specials before getting in line. Most of their stuff are solid so you can't go wrong. Personally I think it's a good spot to go to once in a while but the lines + prices would prevent me from wanting to go there all the time. I was already having a bad day, and then i came here. I wanted to buy myself a breakfast croissant to cheer myself up. I had them before and they were really good. but I waited for my breakfast croissant for over 20 minutes even when there was no one in line and everyone else had already been served. Getting past the super sweet frosting, the lemon ricotta bit exceeded expectations. Rustic bread loaf, however, was like biting into a slab of cement. It was picked out by the owner when I asked for a whole grain option. Perhaps she was well-meaning. Extraordinarily hard, even for rustic. I carried a brick home. Be aware that cutting this is so tough that you might almost stab yourself. Nonetheless there were remnants of flavor and nice density inside that would have been awesome if not so hardened. Most of their loaves favor the sourdough spectrum. Greater variety and softness would be nice. Like the bread, the can owner veer toward seeming somewhat surly and un engaging when asked questions. She seemed to tolerate, "Which loaf do you recommend?" Business is good. Time to talk is limited. Coffee was middle of the road. A lot of pastries are $6. Bread loaves, though potentially brick-esque, are at the standard and more reasonable market rate of $7ish. In hindsight, I recommend being assertive at the window and not taking whatever is handed to you loaf-wise before paying. Don't let the soup nazi vibes intimidate.
