You know that scene in Ratatouille, where the evil critic's heart is melted by a dish that transports him to his childhood? It's a beautiful scene, and a beautiful moment for anyone who's had the pleasure of experiencing that for themselves. It doesn't happen often (that's why it's special) but it's exactly what happened to me at Seed Kitchen & Bar. Every dish my wife and I tried was phenomenal, but my special moment came when I tried the Sweet Potato Ravioli in a Brown Butter sauce. The ravioli was tender, the sweet potato filling was velvety smooth, and the brown butter sauce tasted like the perfect fall afternoon. Of course, the service was great and the atmosphere was comfy, but the food is what really shines here. Hands down our favorite local restaurant. We have never had anything less than a perfect meal, drinks, or apps here. The cocktails are to die for, so if you don't have a reservation, drop by and see if there's (very comfortable) seating at the bar. The bartenders always take good care of us. Post-Covid, when this place opened back up, I literally shrieked when I saw the post. It was the first fine dining meal I ate after lockdown. Also, surprisingly, since it's at the back end of a strip mall, they have a really wonderful patio. They do a good job with the greenery and the partially walled-in section of making you forget where you are. read more

So I gotta say, the establishment itself is very beautiful, super clean and aesthetic looking. Nice contemporary country vibe! Appetizers were very good, got the corn bread and fritters. Super good taste and made me excited for the main course Entrees very disappointing, I got the lemon ricotta ravioli with salmon. Looks very appealing coming out. The salmon looked so good. Only to come that the salmon itself tasted of pure Salt and was almost inedible. The sauce and tomatoes were fine, but the ravioli was over cooked and kept falling apart. Desert was great though, had the skillet cookie and cheese cake- very solid. Over all I enjoyed my experience but tasting my dish and my other guests entrees was very disappointing. read more

Went to Seed for our 33rd anniversary celebration dinner at my wife's suggestion. The whole experience--dinner, service, ambiance--the whole thing was just magnificent. 1. Sydney, who answered the phone and took our reservation, asked if this was for a special event. Well, thanks for asking...yes it is, as a matter of fact. When we arrived and gave our names, she remembered us and took us to our table, where the menus had been customized with our names, and spelled correctly (which is a feat in and of itself.) 2. We were introduced to Rado, our server, who was delightful. More on Rado in a moment. 3. Ordered deviled eggs and corn fritters for apps with glass of wine each. All were delicious. For deviled egg lovers, a must-try. We both ordered Seed's go-to entree, Miso Chicken Schnitzel. No wonder it's their most popular item and--by complete coincidence--was recently featured in the AJC. 4. Back to Rado. If you're reading this review and are even kind-of sort-of considering going to Seed for the food, do that. But if you are looking for an experience, go to Seed but first make a reservation at one of this guy's tables. Since we were one of the later seatings in the evening, we had a chance to talk to this remarkable server as the restaurant cleared. Immigrated from Bulgaria, and is currently writing his own American success story. I won't spoil it for you: just go and get into a conversation. Be prepared to be motivated, inspired and maybe even humbled. More relevant to the review: he's easily one of the best servers I've encountered anywhere: Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Seattle, LA, San Francisco, Dallas, Miami, Tokyo, Melbourne, Munich, Berlin...you name it. What's not to love about seed. I'd say we have been probably 50 times & I have literally had a great time & great food every time we have eaten there. I would recommend making a reservation in advance & making a note of any kind of special occasion. The management & staff do their best to make it a great experience! Food was delicious. I had soup, salad and sandwich special. Excellent choice. Friend had BLT and she said it was very good. Service was great. I think we had Carmen. Very attentive. Food came out in timely manner. Only issue is with the noise level. 3 of us sat in the corner near the bar. We could not hear each other when talking. TOO LOUD! Nothing around walls or ceiling to absorb sound. Next time we will ask for table to the right of the entrance. Smaller area. Hopefully not as loud. This was lunch time. read more

We booked a reservation for my birthday dinner here tonight. When we called to confirm the reservation they had nothing for us. They even required a credit card number to secure the reservation. They didn't apologize and did nothing to accommodate or remedy their error. read more

It's a great spot for brunch. You can't go wrong with a stop here for weekend brunch. We devoured the brisket hash & the White Corn Grit Fritters . We also had an unpictured breakfast omelette that came with this amazingly fluffy biscuit. Just ask for an extra biscuit if you're a lover of biscuits. We're new to the area and wanted to take out a nicer lunch, so decided upon Seed Kitchen & Bar. Everything was fabulous! You can tell great care goes into selecting high quality ingredients and combining different flavors. The shrimp salad was phenomenal. Very fresh, and the herb grilled shrimp had excellent flavor (almost wood fired grill-like) and was cooked to perfection. The merchant burger was solid. Very tasty, also perfectly cooked to our selected temp. The fries are house made and fresh. The grit fritters were very good - the jam sauce that comes with it was sweet and not very spicy despite the jalapeño. We also got the Korean fried chicken sandwich but I didn't try it; it smelled and looked great though! Looking forward to going back to try the dinner menu with some drinks!! read more

Seed Kitchen & Bar opened November 2011 in East Cobb. This is a nice, modern, farm-to-table restaurant with Thai and American Southern influences. The wife of owner-chef Doug Turbush, formerly of Buckhead Life's now-shuttered Bluepointe and Nava restaurants, is from Thailand. Despite being over two years old, the restaurant still looks brand new. The space is beautiful. It's got the simple and contemporary farmstead look, similar to Chicken and the Egg, on the other side of Marietta, and Westside Atlanta's Miller Union. Woods everywhere -- hardwood floors, wooden pillars, wooden tables and chairs, wood-woven light fixtures, etc. The booths are comfortable and the tables fit just right. There's a big bar with a TV and crafty decorations like paper airplanes and candles. If you want, you can buy their candles. They're scented candles made by the restaurant. Thanks to an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, the restaurant feels open, airy, and inviting. The atmosphere is casual, but sophisticated. There are semi-private rooms for group dining. The kitchen in the back is open. I've been to Seed for both lunch and dinner. This is a popular restaurant so reservations are recommended. Book them on OpenTable and earn free dining points. The restaurant has separate brunch, lunch, and dinner menus. The lunch menu features an assortment of salads and sandwiches along with entrees such as ravioli, fish, schnitzel, and steak. Examples of appetizers and sides include oysters, pimento crostinis, grit fritters, gazpacho, and Southern veggies. The dinner menu is expanded, but not by much, and the prices at dinnertime are significantly higher. On food only, expect to spend about $12-15+ per person at lunch and $20-$30+ per person at dinner. The restaurant's ingredients are sourced locally. Specifically, from farms no more than 150 miles out. Staying true to what's locally available, Seed's menu changes periodically/seasonally. For lunch, I had the day's small sandwich, soup, and salad. On that day, the sandwich was a blackened mahi-mahi sandwich with field greens and a roasted tomato aioli. The soup was a corn-based soup with bacon bits and a great cilantro oil drizzle. The salad was a spinach salad with mini goat cheese fritters, red onions, sliced radish, golden beets, and a grapefruit thyme dressing. The lunch portion size was moderate/healthy. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful, including even the most basic of ingredients such as the raw spinach. I could taste a difference in the quality. The soft, lightly toasted, and buttered bun on the mahi-mahi sandwich + the tomato aioli really made the sandwich stand out. The soup and salad were excellent. Dinner is outstanding. As others have mentioned, do order the white corn grit fritters. More than likely, they'll be some of the best fritters you've tried. Extremely succulent. Four fritters come with each order and are served in a "jalapeno jelly," which is very similar to the red-orange Thai sweet chili sauce for chicken. The fritters are filled with melted Thomasville Tomme cheese. I enjoy Seed's version of calamari because they add cooked basil, basil-flavored salt, and roasted red jalapeno slices in addition to a yuzu ginger dipping sauce. The breading is light and the dish isn't too oily. So, the calamari here is a step above most other restaurants' fried calamari. Some dinner entrees I've tried include the scallops and crispy pork belly and a sheepshead special. The scallops and crispy pork belly have a sorghum cider glaze and are served atop a bed of butternut squash risotto and a layer of apple chutney. I'm not a huge fan of pork belly due to its fattiness, but the scallops are quite good. The butternut squash risotto is soft and satisfying and the chutney has a nice subtle acidity to it. Sheepshead is a type of fish. The fish is named sheepshead because its teeth look like a sheep's. Like monkfish, sheepshead are ugly. Also like monkfish, sheepshead tastes fantastic. The two fish taste alike and have similar consistency/texture. The fish meat is white, soft, and slightly rubbery/chewy. I was told their qualities are similar to lobster and crab. The sheepshead is served with broccoli rapini, rutabaga, turnip, and beets, in a warm apple bacon vinaigrette. The desserts are terrific. I've tried several and my favorite is a split between the tres leches cake and the chocolate chunk skillet cookie. Definitely share these desserts because the portion sizes are large and the desserts themselves are rich and decadent. The tres leches (three milk) cake is served with Chantilly cream and fresh berries. The cake is moist and melts in your mouth. The chocolate chunk skillet cookie fills an entire skillet. Amazing. Other superb desserts include the chocolate peanut butter parfait (tastes like a Butterfinger) and the eggnog creme brulee with sorghum gingersnaps. Wonderful presentation. Solid service. read more

One of my top favorite places to go in East Cobb. The Food and drinks are well made. It's a nice place both for large groups and intimate date nights. The cocktails are expertly done and the bartenders know what the more allusive cocktails are called. My friends are semi-cocktail snobs, so we are often being introduced to new "old" creations. I don't know what's in them, usually, but if I order it at Seed, I get essentially the same (or better) drink. The food is good. There's enough variety on the menu to accommodate any taste. I have no favorite it's just that good. Make a reservation though. Because it's the best, it gets booked early. read more

I love everything about this restaurant. Tonight was my first time celebrating my birthday at Seed, and let me tell you they treat you like royalty. Menu printed with your name and happy birthday, birthday card and complementary Tres Leches dessert, which is the bomb! I ordered the scallops which I've had numerous times and always love but tonight it came with couscous. I was going to substitute because couscous is not my favorite, but I'm so glad I didn't. The pistachios in the couscous totally changed the texture and flavor. Unusual but awesome! read more

LOVE! Now that's out of the way. This place is completely charming and adorable, and the service was really top notch. I came here for lunch and sat at the bar for a quick sandwich and some coffee. I was served quickly and told about the specials, then settled on the pimiento cheese grilled sandwich and a side salad. The sandwich was out of this world. It probably gave me early stages of heart disease; however, the bacon, fried green tomatoes, and pimiento cheese, all grilled to perfection, are not to be missed. I also really enjoyed the nice vinaigrette on the salad which didn't have the usual high acidity. The bartender was sweet and attentive and patient with my laptop/paperwork spread. I'm so glad to be visiting the area again later this year so I can stop back in, hopefully for dinner! read more

3.5 stars. Ambiance and service deserve 5 stars. This place is a contrast to its darker, more romantic sister Stem Wine bar next door. It is bright, open, with different comfortable seating arrangements. There is even a corner with books that made me feel like I was in someone's library. We made reservations for Sunday evening.. just in case. We were seated relatively on time. We got cozy seating (I love booth chairs, especially those lined with velvet!). Our server is so friendly and helpful. We were amazed by her recollection of the menu and the specials. She knows her stuff. Grit fritters. No wonder this was doubly boxed on the menu! I love how the cheese just oozes out of these fried balls. Don't be embarassed to roll them around in the jalapeno pepper jelly. I like sweet and spicy sauces. This caters to the average masses since it wasn't too spicy (at least to me). Caramelized cauliflower with brussel sprouts and thai herbs. Be healthy and eat your vegetables, especially these that are slightly sweet. Deviled eggs. Looks pretty. Interesting smoked salmon taste/smell. However, it wasn't rich enough for me. Perhaps more mayo? Hush puppies. Thought they sounded interesting, but they were a disappointment after the grit fritters. Nothing to rave home about. Relatively limited cocktail menu looks interesting but I found that I still cannot tolerate much alcohol. Prosecco makes me feel sick. Raspberry beer though.. yum, tastes like a juice! I rounded this up to 4 stars for the ambiance and service. However, food was hit or miss. I may check out their sister restaurant again. read more

The family and I went out for a little early Valentine's Day dinner. We really enjoyed our dinner and the hospitality from the staff. Our waiter was great and everything we ordered was delicious. Seed is definitely worth a visit. I would certainly come back to this restaurant if someone invited me, but my experience wasn't so fabulous that I would make it a point to return myself. I came as a last minute edition to Tanya C's UYE for Breakfast Club. My friends basically have had me seriously curious about the fritters here... I was pleasantly surprised that all the Yelpers at the UYE were willing to share dishes across our large table. This was great news since there were so many items on the TASTE section of the menu that I wanted to try! From the Taste section, I loved the fritters. You simply can't miss out on ordering these... I could probably just have 2 orders of the fritters and be happy. The grits on the inside were wonderful and added the right amount of texture. But what really made it was the jalapeno jelly/sauce the fritters are served with. Spicy and tangy-- an excellent accompaniment. I also had some corn bread - which was not my fancy, but everyone else seemed to love it. It was served with an apple gin jelly which far outshined the bread itself. I ordered the delived eggs and felt they were over done in terms of presentation. Sure, the plate looked GORGEOUS, but it was pretty difficult to eat politely. I also didn't think all the "stuff" on top of the eggs really added that much... I would not order it again. It was the same story for the pimento cheese crostinis - a beautifully presented dish, and it tasted great, but difficult to eat. I also had an order of the butternut squash soup. I am a bit soup-obsessed this time of year, and I really debated on ordering this dish. Most butternut squash soups taste the same to me. But perhaps the maple cream and pumpkin seeds would make a difference. I enjoyed the soup but it was as I suspected... I didn't taste anything unique or particularly wonderful about this soup. I wouldn't order again. I also had one (okay, two) white peach bellinis. They were a great addition to my brunch experience and felt "right" in the atmosphere of the restaurant, but at $9.75 a pop...I'll stick with one next time. For my main I ordered the crab eggs benedict. My dish was delivered and the hollandaise looked wonderful! For some reason I was expecting a crab cake (maybe I didn't read the description...you know...bellinis) but instead of a crab cake it was basically chunks of crab scattered around the plate. Unfortunately I had to restrain myself from digging in as the plates came from the kitchen slowly, including my boyfriend's shrimp and grits which seemed to have been forgotten. So by the time I could dig in, most of my food was lukewarm. I definitely would choose a different main next time. The smokyness from the ham totally overwhelmed everything else on the dish. I took separate tastes from the sauce so I could...taste it. And it was great. But I couldn't eat everything together in one bite like benedicts are intended to be eaten. I left almost one entire benedict on the plate...maybe because I was full from so many items in the first course, but mostly because I just didn't enjoy the dish. My second choice was shrimp and grits and I'm glad I didn't end up with that one (my boyfriend did). Although the grits were good, the dish was a little messy - this is the type of S&G where the tomato sauce is really spread around the dish so that it mixes with the grits. Also the tails of shrimp had to be cut off. There were a couple of slip ups from the kitchen...the aforementioned missing shrimp and grits, but we also had 2 poached eggs delivered that were hardboiled instead (one of those two being a replacement for the first!). The service was excellent - there were small touches - like refilling the sugar on the table before we asked, and coming back to check in a few minutes after I told him I'd eventually want a second bellini. With so many great options to choose from - yes, even in this area! - I'd try out some of the other restaurants before settling on Seed as my go-to for spending my own money. However, this is an excellent place to take customers, clients, out of towners, etc. which I seem to be on the lookout for more and more frequently. read more

When The Seed Kitchen and Bar opened, it was the best place in East Cobb to dine. The staff, the service, the atmosphere, and the food were always excellent. We would always go there on special ocassions (Birthday, Anniversary, etc.). I was just that kind of place!!! But now, it seems as if The Seed has become a money hungry establishment who have lowered their standards quite a bit. So here is the story. I made a reservation on the Open Table app a month ahead of time for this very special occasion (the 28th Wedding Anniversary). After making the reservation, I never received a confirmation from the app, email, or on my messages app. So, I called the restaurant the next day and verbally communicated for a reservation at 6:30 pm. I asked if there was another reservation in my name and she confirmed there was one. I asked if they could delete one. I am not sure if the communication between Open Table and the restaurant are up to par. The next day or two, I received a text asking me to give the names of the people for my reservation. The link sent me to the Open table app, but unfortunately, there was no where on the app to add my wife's name. So, I called the restaurant again and gave them the information. So, the big day arrived and we were so excited to go dine at The Seed! We got dressed up and ready for a nice occasion. We arrived at the restaurant exactly at 6:30. The restaurant was packed and very loud. I told the hostess who we were and our reservation time. She said that we would have to wait, but your table is not ready. I asked her how long would be the wait and she replied that the people are eating their desserts and it wouldn't be too long. She never welcomed us nor mentioned our anniversary. While we were waiting ( at least 10 minutes), I noticed an open table for two that was ready for patrons. I asked the hostess why we couldn't be seated at that table and she replied that table was reserved for the 7:00 reservation. I about blew my top!!!!! Why in the world would we have to wait for a table to open up when there was already one open!! Evidently, the hostess was new or just plain stupid, but she stated that was what the computer was telling here. She asked me if I wanted to talk to the manager. I said yes! So she went to go find him. During that time, my wife told me that the mood for this special occasion was ruined, so we left! The Seed shouldn't reserve any stars for this review, but I guess I have to give one to make a review. Thank you The Seed Kitchen and Bar!!! I have not been to Seed in awhile....full disclaimer. I have never actually eaten there because I showed up without a reservation and it was only myself. It was early and the restaurant was pretty empty, but I was told they could not seat me and sent me to the bar. Being a non drinker they sent me to the outside patio where I sat by myself for quite awhile. I decided they did not need my business and left. I continue to hear good things about them and happy for all who get in there. If you don't have a reservation and you are by yourself - there are other options in East Cobb. The service is always nice and friendly and they have one great skill: they listen to the customers! If there is something that does not fulfill your expectation they hear you respectfully.
