Used sees candies $50 gift card purchased from Costco thinking one gift card of $25 would pay for a one pound of chocolate. But the box came out to $41. Stopped by today as my family wanted me to bring them Toffee-ettes for the holidays. The location is by the ice rink/food court and Brazilia. Nicely organized and stocked. See's Candies has gotten stingy with their free sample in the past. I figured it's because of all the moochers who come in and never by (hey, I've been one of 'em). I walked in today and was looking around when a nice guy came up to me and offered me a pumpkin chocolate sample. That was really nice of him. Then he pointed me to the candy I was looking for. Checking out was easy. They don't have the chip reader for credit cards. I just thought the price for the two tins of Toffee-ettes was REALLY expensive at 19.90/each. I can't remember if I've seen Costco selling discounted See's gift cards? Anyhow, this is a nice location that I'd revisit if I needed See's Candy. read more

I stopped in to buy treats for Valentine's Day. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by 2 smiling and friendly employees. I was offered 2 samples and assistance. As I was looking around, I noticed other customers shopping for their sweet tooth. What really discerned me is the amount of crap these employees put up with. I truly felt sorry for these kids for putting up with the condescending attitudes some people come in with. Pretty sad. I picked out my $20 worth of treats and was rung up quickly. In light of what I had just witnessed, I made conversation with the employee to bring some humor to her day. You can't go wrong with See's candy, especially during LOVE season! I love you See's, but you are dang-e-rous! So I stopped by a little while ago and decided to treat myself to my favorite candy here at See's: California Brittle. Me loves. But that summamab*tch chipped my front tooth when I bit down on it over enthusiastically. Feck! I heard a crack and was horrified to see my Jack Sparrow smile in the reflection of my compact. #%!&^@&!&#@!! In all fairness, I had originally chipped my front tooth trying to run after the ice cream man at the ripe old age of 8, fell on the cement face first and lo and behold, a chunk of my front tooth broke off. Graceful, I know. This would be the start of many clumsy moments yet to come. Like the time I fell off my bunkbed and had to get stiches behind my left ear. Or the time I flew out of a swingset because I swore I could jump the farthest and sprained my ankle. Or the time...oops, sorry going off on a tangent again. Anyway, my bff at the time and I went searching all around looking for the missing chip as if we could glue it back on and salvage my smile. Yea, not so much. Mom had a fit when she got home from work and dragged me to our dentist soon after. Worst day ever! Back to the present: luckily, I got my tooth fixed immediately after the unfortunate candy incident, got scolded by my dentist for eating too many sweets and was given a goodie bag with a mini-Listerine bottle, floss and toothpaste for the road. In search of my Mom's favorite milk chocolate bordeaux candies, I popped in to See's on my lunchbreak and the line was long. Chocoholics of all stripes were lined up and antsy for their pre-purchase free samples. The line was all women, and they were crabby in desperate need of their chocolate fix. Some of them reminded me of the junkies I once spotted twitching this way and that, impatiently waiting for their turn to get clean syringes at the needle exchange clinic. Cheerfully, the candy mavens worked the line, handing out free white chocolate strawberry truffles to samples (delicious by the way) and a few folks turned them down, complaining, "I don't want THAT! Can't you give me something better?!" Even with the bullish behavior, customers were politely offered their choice of confectionery. While I was being rung up for my purchase, a well-dressed girl just a few years younger than me strided up to the counter and proclaimed, "I don't want to buy anything. I just want MY free sample." To my chagrin, the busy employee reached under the counter, and politely handed her a strawberry truffle and before she could finish explaining what it was, the girl just grabbed it out of her hand and left. Not even a thank you. It's one thing to take a piece of a cookie in the sample tray at the bakery section in the grocery store - that's what they are there for. It's a completely different matter to demand a free sample from an employee taking care of a big line of people and not buy anything. Seriously. See's Candies start at 75 cents a piece. You could walk around UTC mall and collect that much change off the ground in a heartbeat. That kind of rude behavior and low level of cheap-a$$ness really bothers me. I honestly don't know how the employees can handle it. Maybe they self-medicate with a chocolate sample for themselves every now and again? All I can say is I love See's Candies and the employees are exceptional. They definitely get a gold star in my book. read more

My 666th review; time to make it about something sinful... sinfully delicious! Yesterday was National Lollipop Day, and See's Candies celebrates by giving each customer a free lollipop, depending on the location (here, I got Chocolate, while my girlfriend in Diamond Bar got Chocolate Caramel). Since I was in the store, I figured I'd indulge my sweet tooth by picking up a couple more lollipops at .80 a pop (the selections here are Vanilla, Chocolate, Butterscotch, Cafe Latte, and Root Beer) and a Chewy Walnut and Dark Chocolate Bar for $1.45). While I thought that See's may have raised their prices, the quality of the product shows. That chocolate bar definitely was a great dessert after my lunch in UTC's food court, and I look forward to my lollipops this week... hell, I may have to get a few more to tide me over during Comic-Con! As a couple of my fellow Yelpers have noticed, the customers here can be a bit rude and condescending (and as I mentally noted, they too were women). Guess living in La Jolla/University City can do that to a person's mentality; the employees here really have the patience of Job to deal with these b... I mean, people. My mom and I were fairly slow in choosing each individual chocolate for all three of the boxes, but every step of the way Ronald displayed excellent customer service, an upbeat demeanor and overall positive attitude. I've always loved See's Candies chocolates ever since I was a young kid because whenever my parents received a box of See's, my sister and I had a kick out of competing with each other on who blindly picked the "better" chocolate from the assortment of chocolates. However, the surprising thing is that I had never stepped into a See's Candies store until I got to college because I usually opt for the cheaper variety to fix my chocolate cravings. Well, the time came for me to discover this place when my parents urged me to buy a few boxes for my summer internship employers and colleagues. At first I was considering Godiva's but my friend said, "Why not See's? You get more for your money and it tastes just good." So, bearing that in mind along with my childhood memories, I set out to UTC to find this little store. I did my research beforehand and knew which boxes I wanted to buy (the classic Chocolate and Variety, the pretty Gold Fancy, and two boxes of Truffles), but my friend and I still had fun checking out their other things. Although we didn't buy any individual chocolates for ourselves, one employee was going around the store giving everyone free chocolate samples (mine was a dark chocolate caramel with walnuts in it...yum!). It was a nice surprise! Maybe next time, I will come here just to treat myself with the drool-worthy looking chocolates all lined up in their glass case! My employers were very pleased with my gifts and said they looked "very high-classed." All in all, friendly employees, amazing chocolates, and reasonable prices. This location in particular is very clean and the service works quickly. I love the iconic black and white tile and cute uniforms the girls wear. The toffee lollipops are my favorite. Ever since I was a little kid I would come to See's with my mother and she would get me the lollipop or the molasses chips. Yum! I will never get sick of those! I love See's butterscotch squares. My favorite thing to do at See's is to go in, buy a lollipop of something small, and when they offer me a sample of whatever, I request a butterscotch square. Sometimes I prepare some lie like "Oh, I'm allergic to (insert filling here: marzipan, caramel, lemon, peanuts, etc.), can I get a butterscotch square instead? My fiancee knew I loved the butterscotch square so much, that for our first Valentine's day he got me a box of...caramel squares. For our second Valentine's, he got me a box of...butterscotch chews. But, not accepting defeat, he got me the right kind for our third Valentine's. Yum. It's always clean and the people are nice (and some people would be downright unhappy wearing their sensibly retro uniforms). See's candies delights people as gifts, and Costco sells 1 pound gift certificates for a discounted price. read more

I've always been a fan of See's candies. They have a wide selection of chocolates and they always have new items throughout the year. One of my favorite chocolates of all time are the walnut squares which consists of caramel, walnuts & chocolate. I just don't know why they call them walnut "squares" when they are actually rectangles. :p They usually hand each customer a random chocolate to sample but I really like that you are able to sample a chocolate of your choice. :) It's typically $17.50 for 1lb of chocolates of your choice depending on the weight. I prefer to get the two, 1lb certificates from Costco for $27.99 which comes down to $14 for 1lb, saving you $3.50 each pound. The only thing I dont like is that once in awhile (esp. during holidays) there's a really long line with only 2 people working. read more

Wow! What an experience today at See's UTC. I appreciate the seasonal help but my experience today was terrible. I asked for 2- 1/2 pound boxes of milk patties. The young man says they were a little over a 1/2 pound. I frequent See's so a little over is usually by 1 piece. I said that was fine. He gift wrapped them and when her rang them up they were each over $26. I see one receipt that one was .875 and the other was .854. I would say that is more than a little over a half pound. The young man then was not able to make correct change. After $50 in gifts cards my balance was $30.24. I gave him $100.25. He gave me $60.01 change. I explained to him that he shorted me $10. He then goes to hand me a $1. I went over the math with him again as one of his co=workers was now overseeing what was taking place. Needless to say I didn't need $80 worth of candy today. I did not need almost double the chocolate in the custom 1/2 boxes but wasn't about to hold up the line and have him take out 1/3 of the candy in each box. read more

I have to say, the Sees Marzipan chocolate is one of my favorite Marzipan chocolate's of all time. I don't think I have tasted a better Marzipan chocolate anywhere or from any of the famous brands... I like the rum nougat, some of the walnuts...and the scotch mallow as well!! But how is it that the sample always tastes kinda crappy? Oh, and I hate having to sign for a $4 credit card charge - get with the program - under $25 or $50 there should be no need to sign - makes the lines that much longer! read more
