Honestly, this restaurant is rather out of places, in between 3 national parks, in a small hotel of a small town. But the food was just amazing, especially since I was dreading having to rough with diner food or fast food when touring the national parks. But after a long hike, Sego delivers one of the more extravagant meals I had all week. I ordered 7-8 dishes to share with my Dad, and when the 3 pound ribeye came as the very last dish, we were already pretty full. Somehow we ended up eating 2 pounds of it before taking the rest to go. Although I wasn't expecting spending close to $300 for a dinner in the middle of nowhere, it was worth every penny after hiking non-stop for the week! read more

I was a bit iffy about trying an Asian fusion restaurant in a rural town in Utah, but decided to give it a try. This is a tapas-style restaurant, so we ordered 5 dishes for the two of us: Malaysian wings, artichoke & mushroom forage, elote fritters, and two--yes, two-- duck Lo mein bowls cuz my partner 'wanted his own'. The taste, the variety of flavors and the service friggin blew us away!!! Between the four different dishes, I still can't decide which was my favorite bc they were all so unique but the elote fritters rank pretty high for me. A very unexpected high end dining experience in Kanab. Seriously, $19 for top notch duck I could eat here every day. It went well with my McCallan and the Asian Wings were an even better surprise. My wife had an amazing Ceasar Salad grilled to perfection made properly with anchovies and a deep fried egg. Her scallops synced well with the Sauvignon Blanc. Absolutely amazing food and drinks! The genre is sorta new American with some Asian influences and it's served small plate style for sharing, so we ordered a bunch of stuff: -Caesar salad - I've never seen a Caesar done like this as it was grilled and "wedge" style with a head of Romaine cut in half, covered in anchovies and some cheese and dressing and grilled! -Duck low mein - awesome noodles with beautifully tender and lean duck (and a lot of it) with a bit of crispy skin on there as well -Grilled halibut - two excellent chunks of halibut with a crispy crust in a sorta Asian inspired thin sauce -Baked brie - I mean, always great, a big chunk of brie that was baked and gooey with some dates and tasty bread slices on the side -chocolate caramel lava cake - ooey, gooey, sweet, and huge -banana bread pudding - I don't usually care for bred pudding but I love banana bread and that's basically what it was! As for cocktails, the prickly pear margarita, the dirty martini (with bleu cheese olives), and the honey/lemon/gin drinks were all incredible! read more

Their tacos and the salmon special were irresistibly delectable! I can't speak for their other menu items, but if they're anywhere near the quality that these two dishes were, you'd be foolish to pass up this hidden gem on the northern outskirts of Kanab. This place is a total LIFESAVER! We were staying in Glendale, about 20 miles/30 minute drive north from Kenab and was not having ANY good luck with food closer to our aidbnb after long days at Zion and Bryce. We decided to make the slightly longer trek for food and boy, are we glad we did?! Located in a little hotel, it's a small restaurant, but their food has a lot to rave about. Being 5 months pregnant after hiking all day, I was exhausted and had a bit of a stomach ache (and freezing from the cold Utah weather for us Floridians!!!) Our server was so accommodating and helpful, she brought me a variety of teas to choose from since they didn't have ginger ale. You also get a complimentary warm (I believe lemon scented?) towel when you get to your table (which I will say is great for the freezing winter nights!). We decided to skip any shareables and went straight for our entrees. And since my appetite has been so hit or miss, I opted for their Malaysian BBQ wings (Bambu, fish sauce, garlic, their sego sambal with sesame seeds). Oh my god, I was in heaven. They were practically demolished within minutes. The spice was perfect (and I have a high tolerance and usually criticize places for their "heat". This one was just perfect). My husband got the Duck Lo Mein which he was raving about between mouthfuls. I thought the speed of the food coming out was fine, but our server kept apologizing for the delay (which I kept reiterating was no issue) and ended up giving us a complimentary dessert for the "wait". We ended up getting some chocolate with I believe fudge and caramel (I can't remember the name, I am not a huge sweets fan, my bad!) And it was so tasty, perfect end to the evening! I'd highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you are staying in the area of Utah between both parks, it's worth the little drive and for the great hospitality! read more

Our favorite dishes were the FOTD swordfish and the tofu, and I have to say, I lived in Asia for several years and this is the BEST tofu both I and my husband (who is not a vegetarian) have ever had. The texture was perfect and the flavors were beautiful. The swordfish was cooked perfectly and the hummus and carrots that accompanied were delicious in their own right. The Rendang Ayam, Sego Noodles, and Potatoes were all gobbled up and had their own unique flavors that we quite enjoyed. The apple dessert was delicious and all plates were the perfect size for sharing. Portions were not tiny and they also weren't outrageous, which we were grateful for so we could try more options! The prices were completely reasonable as well. Our waitstaff were very kind and attentive. The atmosphere was intimate but not crowded, with low lighting and well-spaced tables. It also wasn't so loud that I couldn't have a conversation or hear myself think (which drives me crazy in restaurants). I'm going to be completely honest - maybe my expectations were too high after seeing the reviews but I don't agree with the reviews that the food here is as good as restaurants in NYC or the Bay Area. We ordered around $150+ of food to go but every single dish was super salty... I really wanted to love it (I spent so much time deciding what I wanted to eat here!) but was super disappointed. woooooooow. Sego was my restaurant of the 2018, hands down. No competition. I almost feel the need to go down-star every other restaurant I reviewed at a 5, because this is truly what a 5 star restaurant should be like. From the start, the funk interior design and the friendly and smiley waiter; the creativity of the drinks, and the food... whew. I'll hop right to highlighting our favorite dishes. As a quick background story, this was our first real meal after going out in Vegas the night before. There were 4 of us in our party - which was ideal because we all got several bites of each dish but got to share many plates (i.e. 9 dishes). And by "many," I mean that we ordered every dish that we wanted. Literally. They all blew us out of the water. But I'll highlight my two ABSOLUTE must haves. - Avocado Toast: the chorizo oil + chilis gave it the perfect amount of spice and the seeds were an awesome touch of crunch. - AZ Beef Filet: wow.... the meat was unbelievably tender and juicy with amazing flavor. And the SW parmesan potatoes... wow. This dish was a show stopper. I must take a minute to expand on the wait staff there. We worked with Aaron, who seriously pushed our experience from great to excellent. He was charismatic without over doing it. He gave thorough recommendations and even went over the top and gave us the receipt for how to make our favorite dishes. Lastly, I'd like to say that I'm devastated that I live 17 hours and 21 minutes away from Sego and I can't simply hop in the car and drive there right now because my mouth is watering just remembering how amazing it was. Sego is by far the best restaurant in Utah! Granted I've not eaten at every restaurant but I do travel across the state a lot and to this day I haven't had better food! Service is always great! Atmosphere is intimate and pleasant. Wife & I will go here 3-6 times a year. Some may consider it pricey but the experience is definitely worth the cost! Similarly priced restaurants I have visited have let me down. I will continue to dine at Sego for as long as I can! We are from So Cal so we are pretty picky but the dishes we tried all were delicious and left us nothing but satisfied. We ordered shrimp, potatoes, asparagus, dan dan noodle, fried rice, and wings. We wanted to order scallop but they were out. I also ordered a banana bread pudding although I was already full just to taste it. Everything was delicious and on point. My husband and I have stayed many years at the boutique hotel where Sego is located but haven't been able to dine here because it is always booked! We finally booked ahead and we understood immediately why it is so busy. The dishes were all incredible. We enjoyed the beet salad, scallops, filet and broccolini. They were all exceptional as was the service. We enjoyed a great wine with dinner and finished the evening with a pineapple sorbet. We will definitely be back! read more

When there's a a storm rolling through and you want wine, having a restaurant right next door to your hotel is a great thing. And I wanted wine. So much wine. Sego is a bit on the spender side for small plates. $24 for two scallops seems spendy and I try to consume them whenever I see them on a menu. The great news is that the scallops were well prepared and the plate well balanced. Unfortunately the beet salad was a disappointment. The yellow beets were well cooked but the red were nearly raw. They thinly sliced them but the crunch was undeniable and I had to push half the salad to the side. The feta lacked flavor and the arugula was dry. I let the server know but nothing else was said or done about the salad matter. Oh well. On to dessert. The chocolate torte was definitely a cake (flourless) more than torte topped with a melted caramel. The whipped cream and strawberries were a welcome addition but the toasted coconut seemed more like an afterthought and wasn't necessary. Loved the Seghesio Zinfandel. It's always been a favorite and I'm always happy to see it on a menu. read more

This place is legendary. As a "foodie" with 30+ years in Socal, denver and portland, this gem is worth every ounce of effort to stop by while in Kanab. Might even make a side trip out of Zion to take the family here in the future. They have tons of options, many vegetarian, and all the food was amazing. We spent around 250$ for 4 people(excluding tip) and would fly out that way and do it again. Everything is top knotch. They have like 10 different lemonades. Hats off to the chef! I was a little skeptical when I saw Asian fusion elements on the menu, but I soon ate my words, along with my food. I had the artichoke and mushroom toast and the duck lo mein. The toast was amazing. The focaccia they used was delicious. The lo mein had a little too much oil pooled at the bottom of my plate, but the flavors were impeccable and the duck was cooked perfectly. I couldn't resist the flourless chocolate cake for dessert, which was perfect. Also, the ancho manhattan might be the best manhattan I've ever had. The meal was so good that I went back two days later and had the elote fritters and the rendang, both of which were great. Will be back! read more

The service is great, the vibe is great. Four out of five dishes we ordered were over salted. The salt was grinding on our teeth. Either the salt was on a sale today or the reviews are fake. Noodles were awful, greasy and too salty, it was the worst dish out of all. Beets salad was too salty and too sour. Woaza! This place is amazing. This is our first time here. The concept is simple plates range from small to medium and they are meant to share. For 2 people we ordered 5 items and one dessert and it was plenty. Here is what we got; Grilled ceasar... I am in love with their version. Grilled romain cut in half with anchovies, caesar dressing and a crusted fried egg that was to die for. Is runny so if you are afraid of the yolks put it aside and eat the rest you will love it. Pork belly watermelon... I can't explain what just happened with this dish. Is sweet, sticky, salty, savory and all of it happening in stages that make you want to jump for joy. My favorite dish of the dinner. Fried wings... the flavor on this wings are just perfect. I really enjoyed them and would come here again and again when in need of a wing fix. Fried elote... this dish contains all the goodness and flavors you love from a good elote cup. They created a more sophisticated version of it and I like it. Ribs.... so this dish was ok. I think ours were overcooked as it was hard to eat. I think we only enjoyed one of them as the other 3 were mostly hard. Please know that the ribs would be very good otherwise. All in all I am very impressed with this restaurant and the caliber of spot around this town. You guys got it going on for sure. read more

Had 2 dinners here this week. Enjoyed both dinners very much. One night we got 4 plates and the second night 5 plates. Our waitress, Melanie, was friendly and helpful, and gave me good advise on vegetarian options. Both nights had the delish Dan Dan noodles (made vegetarian). It was spicy and good size. Also loved the broccolini and the falafel. My bf says his fave was the Duck Lo Mein. It was a close second to the special General Tsa's duck. Let me start with all the good stuff. I want you to come here. The food is consistently excellent. The flavor profiles match half the trendy farm to table places in the country. They cover several of the most trendy ingredients. I know I'm making it sound hum-drum, but don't take it that way. This place matches most anything in Salt Lake City. It could survive in big markets. It's better than you would expect in Kanab. The room is very classy, historic styling, comfortable. There is a nice patio for when weather permits. Now the problem area that keeps the final star from being an option. They seem to have decided each server gets random tables all over the restaurant. Our server had three tables in far corners of the restaurant, and another one on the patio. Really. It certainly gives her a nice workout over the evening. It doesn't give her time to watch her tables close enough to keep up to date on what customers need. That, however, is not the biggest issue. The food is delivered in the most infuriating pacing, and order. On our first visit, we worked with the server to pick 4 plates. He suggested an order to eat them. We had 5 minutes, or so, with the cocktail. Then the food started showing up. Before we finished the cocktail, and the wine was poured, ever single course was delivered, in the wrong order. You would have thought they were trying to turn the table from start to finish in 30 minutes. This time around, we order as an appetizer, a seafood, a meat, and a starch. We asked for the seafood before the meat, and the starch would be best if it came out with the "entrees". Nope. We got the starch by itself 20 minutes before any entree. It really impacts the enjoyment of the meal. If would be nice if they watched the one small square plate they give you to eat your shared plates from. After several courses, you have to ask for them to be replaced, even though it is pretty obvious they should be. When desert came, we got one dinner fork and one salad fork. They both work, but it's not very professional. If they can get the back of the house working with the front of the house on food delivery, it's going to be a seamless, and excellent, experience. On our first visit, we ended up talking a little with the table next to us. First, a couple from Brooklyn. Second, a couple from Guangzhou China. They were all impressed with the food. read more
