There is a lot to like here at Sei Less... and a couple things that are just slightly off. First off, the food is absolutely stunning; great tastes, nice presentation, quick preparation. If you're looking for asian fusion to impress your palate, this will do the trick nicely. We tried several dishes, including pastrami spring rolls (amazingly delightful), the lobster spoons, the short rib bao buns (which aren't really bao, but are using that dough to make a taco-like wrapper around the meat and sauce), and the crispy rice with spicy tuna. The mains included the sea bass (a bit like a less flavorful miso cod) and kung pao chicken, as well as some pork noodles. The wait staff is friendly and efficient (although our waiter was a little messy, but he always had a clean towel available), but the room has a vibe that is trying too hard. It comes off a bit kitschy, more like the interpretation of a restaurant in the background of a music video. As others have mentioned, using the restroom here is a bit of a situation. The attendant is flat out rude and unhelpful, and that really puts a downer on a nice meal. If you can hold it in until you get to your next stop, though, the food is going to wow your taste buds. read more

You come here for the sleek, slightly sleazy, sexy speakeasy vibe that straddles the line between "I don't quite understand how speakeasies work" and "I'm trying too hard to impress my ABG girlfriend". Or overpriced plates of nothing, like the Chilean Sea Bass, which was literally just two tiny, limp pieces of seared fish filets with zero seasoning or sauce...for $39! Service was just as rudimentary. Our server's first words to us were, "You want food?" Yes, "You want food?" No "Hi", no "Good evening"....Eh, who needs small talk when you can get right to the point? But then, Chinese restaurants have just as brusque service, so maybe this place really is authentic? @__@ Just come here to sit at the bar and look sexy while sipping the decent cocktails (at $19/pop, they better be). The Lychee Martini was surprisingly interesting because of the coconut cream foam, and the Sei Less, Drink More that I got by accident instead of my Elderflower Mojito was tasty. My wife and I had an early dinner here after watching a Broadway matinee. The restaurant was pretty empty, so we were seated promptly without a reservation on a Saturday. Very cool Asian themed decor. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was creative and tasty. We shared an Asian Green Salad (wonderful), Salt and Pepper Prawns (delicious), Sea Bass (very nice), and Cauliflower side dish (amazing). However, I do have two complaints. We ordered the Lobster Spoons as an appetizer and it was so chewy it was practically inedible. At $29, this is not acceptable. I informed our server about the poor quality of the dish. He said he would inform the kitchen immediately, but we were still charged for the dish. I then gave her my full name and pulled out my phone and then all of a sudden she found me. I sat at the bar. It took 20 minutes for me to get a drink. There was no bartender behind the bar. When I finally got a drink, that lychee martini was just way too sweet. The female bartender looked upset about being there. She was just not nice. I've worked as a server for 10 years and know good customer service. They definitely didn't provide that. Then when I got the check, it made sense. 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. The place itself is beautiful. Decor looked nice. Everything looked super clean. The bathrooms were very clean as well. Unfortunately, they speak so much about incorporating hip hop but I didn't see a DJ nor did I hear hip hop playing in the background. Would have been nice. There wasn't much of an ambiance. When I got home, my stomach hurt but I didn't think much of it. I felt sick but thought it was because the drink was too sweet. When we got there, they said our table was for 5 but it was definitely a mistake since we only had 2 people. Originally I had thought this restaurant was more of a speakeasy, but it is fairly large on the inside with a lot of seating. Their menu is definitely asian fusion. For food, we started off with the peking duck spring rolls. They came with a hoisin dipping sauce. The duck itself was alright, the flavor didn't seem to be very strong since the main taste was just the crispiness of the spring roll wrapper. For $6 each, I kind of expected a bit more. Their menu has a lot of seafood (especially lobster) and most dishes are meant to be family style. For entrees, we got the Nine Seasons Jumbo Prawns (with rice) and the Lo Mein with chicken. The prawns were alright, they were fairly sweet but the flavor profile fell flat a little bit in my opinion. The noodles were also average, nothing really out of the ordinary. Both dishes were fairly expensive, at least they didn't skip out on the serving sizes. They had a fairly extensive drink menu. My girlfriend started with the "Sei less drink more" drink, also $19, it was tasty but it came half filled and wasn't strong at all (see photos). Next she tried the Cognac punch ($19) which was a slightly lighter version of the sidecar but was very good and packed a punch as well. She ended her rounds with a Sidecar (because I forced her to so I can have some lol). Food- I have zero complaints about the food with the exception of the broccoli being just a little salty. Was looking for anything remotely high-end after work and wandered into Sei Less. After discussing my ability to enter with the mighty cool bouncer posted outside and ascending the staircase to the restaurant, I recalled that this was a popular rapper hangout in 2022. This means that the high density of positive reviews, especially on other review platforms, is driven much more by pop culture rather than NYC food culture. The atmosphere is seriously cool. If you're friends with the owner who purportedly provides "white glove" service to celebrities and he invites you here to host your album release party, awesome. If you're located close to the place and you want to grab a drink at the bar after work, Sei Less is worth adding to the rotation. Toward the goal of this restaurant being the jumping off point for a full-fledged hospitality "brand" like Nobu or Tao, I don't see it happening. To accomplish that, you need to start with a truly spectacular concept. Sei Less feels like a well-funded ripoff of something like Buddakan. Though the water service was fantastic, the waiter was about as charming or as animated as a tree stump. The food felt unfinished and relied heavily on sauces. The Peking Duck egg rolls were $20 and really leaned on the dipping sauce. I paid something like $85 for a lobster noodle dish which probably could have photographed well but reminded me of an experimental dish I'd cook at home rather than the cornerstone of a menu. There's a large incongruence between what the restaurant wants to be, what most reviewers claim it is, and what it actually is. This can plainly be seen in user-submitted photos: basic asian fusion dishes complemented by gooey sauces. Fantastic music selection interrupted by disinterested waiters. I admit it's hard to explore the menu as someone dining alone, but Sei Less didn't deliver. read more

We made reservations to this restaurant for a Thursday evening around 6:30pm and it wasn't too crowded. The decor and ambiance were elegant, and there were several areas where you could get some cute background shots. The staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. This restaurant charges high end prices for food that's pretty mediocre. It's nothing special. The venue is nice with dim lighting and R&B music, nice wait staff but the food is not worth the price. Period. I literally could have spent $30 instead of $150 and gotten the same meal at a mall food court. Waiter was responsive to take our orders but the fact that food came out within minutes of us ordering was concerning. The appetizers were ok. I decided to try this restaurant with a friend and made reservations in advance. I arrived early and was able to get metered street parking right outside the restaurant. (FYI the nyc parking parking app offers cheaper parking fees than what was posted on the meter). Inside the restaurant the decor is very original and cute. You will definitely want to take plenty of pictures. We were seated near the bar area which was very dimly lit. I ordered the sei less, drink more which was strong but good. I also ordered the chicken satay, Chilean sea bass and the lobster fried rice. Everything was delicious but my favorite dish was the chicken satay. I was happy with everything about the restaurant until I asked the waiter about the yelp check in offer. When I showed the waiter the check in offer he pressed the redemption button then told me that I had to write a review before I could redeem the offer. When I asked why did he redeem the offer on both mine and my friends phone then mention this pre-requisite he looked confused. After telling him he was wrong he eventually agreed to allow us the check in offer as shown. That brief interaction soured me on the restaurant from that point. Why give your customers a hard time about a offer your restaurant is clearly promoting. He was very lucky that gratuity was included in the bill because I definitely would've reduced the amount. I definitely have no plans to return especially after I got outside and saw their "valet parking". Drivers that were trying to park in my spot on the street were being told it was now valet parking only. But you valet cars when you have a LOT not on the streets of NY in front of city meters that drivers have to pay until midnight.
