Fought the Ballard traffic and parking to come to this restaurant. Walked in the door at 8:36 and was told by the guy at the front that they only do takeout orders after "quarter to." I said, looking at the time "so, 8:45?" He said "yeah, sorry." Maybe the math, or clock reading, was challenging for one of us. Either way my tip would be to get into the restaurant at least a half hour before closing or you'll have to do takeout. Noodles were overcooked, place was freezing, no heat, front door (of course) doesn't close on its own and (of course) people are too thoughtless or stupid to close it manually. Delicious dishes! The food was fresh with bold flavors, and we love being able to see in the kitchen. The server was so sweet to our kids and made sure they had unbreakable cups, forks, plates, etc. They were accommodating to us ordering a few things and sharing among the table as well. read more

Listen Up - For $16 when it was all said in done I got a SMALL bowl of mediocre soup advertised as a "spare rib" soup. The soup in question contained exactly 3 bone-in chunks of spare rib no bigger than the last digit of my thumbs. I was giving no option but to spit these bones into my napkin or back into my bowl of soup as no plate was given. The broth was pretty rich - however it was in my opinion worse than that of good pho. The noodles were no good, and were in fact outnumbered by anemic bean-sprouts. Service was too casual. Why bother spending $16 for a lunch that sucks? If you fall for this place you're a chump. read more

This location rotated some restaurants for several years and finally a good one opened up! I was blown away by the amazingly fresh vegetables in my noodles and have had superb dishes each time I have gone. I think I actually come for the fresh veggies as opposed to the noodles themselves. I haven't seen this kind of Thai/Southeast Asian cuisine elsewhere in the city and it's a nice change. They also are plentiful in sweet and vinegary hot sauces. My favorites are guay jub - for some deep, flavorful broth with chunks of rolled up wide noodles and pork spare ribs, and ba mee giow muu dang - for a light and refreshing broth, fresh and perfectly-crispy vegetables and juicy dumplings. Bonus - they have sweet coconut rice with mango dessert sometimes! read more

Such a gem! Great food with original recipes and ingredients. Seattle of course has a ton of restaurants in this genre but this one is a great new addition. Very friendly staff and great service. Don't have a dedicated kids menu but some very kid friendly options and they were very welcoming to our young kid. read more

I had Guay Jub & Ayam Melayu. Both taste OK. Ayam Melayu (chicken wings) comes out small 5 to 6 wings. I thought the price overall was expensive. I only had a starter dish & noodle bowl, but my bill was somewhere around $23 or more. Staffs were friendly and my dine-in experience was also great! I live in Old Ballard so I go out eat alone many times, both weekdays and weekends. Believe me, there aren't many restaurants on NW Mrkt St that accommodate a solo eating on weekend evenings. I was definitely impressed! My friend and I shared the Spicy Giow (wontons) which were a great app, small, but delicious. Sen Noodle Bar is a very small restaurant, but it still has a light and airy ambiance. The food and service are very good! They have a simple menu, and fairly good vegetarian options (that are truly vegetarian - no fish sauce). The same owners as Jhanjay across the street and Pestle Rock next door. I recommend this restaurant if you're going out with just one other person or a couple other people, as there is not a lot of space for large groups. read more

Got to check this place out and found out it was day two of being open! Service is incredible. Seemed family owned/run which I like. Food is reasonably priced. I ordered their spicy dumpling appetizer, wide rice noodles in duck broth, thai iced tea, and my brother ordered their egg noodles in Tom yum soup. This place did not disappoint. So much flavor in every bite of food. The spicy dumpling appetizers were delicious. A really great start our meal. The dumplings taste of ginger, fish sauce, chili sauce, and other amazing flavors. The dumpling filling is some soft minced meat, equally tasty. The duck meat in my duck broth is by far the tenderest meat I have ever encountered. All the flavors come together to be a delightful masterpiece. I can't describe it well enough, it is a must try. I especially like the layout of their menu..a true noodle bar. Pick the noodles you want and how you want it prepared ie dry/stir fry or in a scrumptious broth. I don't think you can go wrong. I will definitely be back to try other variations and combos until I find my personal favorite. My brother did note the tom yum broth is pretty spicy and the heat sneaks up on you with each bite. He loves spicy food but could not finish the last meatball because the fire in his mouth could no longer be contained. He did enjoy every bit of his selection and mentioned the meatballs were also super tender. Everything was tooth-achingly sweet. Sweetened, I guess, for Americans. Also, loud and decorated in Seattle "good enough" style. I had the duck soup (it looked great from previous yelp photos) and the moment I took a bite, I had to pause and had a mini freak out sesh. Came back for a second try after being underwhelmed by my first visit. The noodle bowl on the second visit was by far better: GUAY TIOW KHAEK. The place is small, but the hospitality is good. The food is even better. I ordered a Guay Tiow Khaek and it tastes very rich, tastes like a very good laksa noodle. A bit sour, but the taste is wonderful, very well balanced, and it didn't make my stomach uneasy. I also ordered the chicken wings, one of them is a bit uncooked, so we complained to the server and asked for one well-cooked chicken wing as a replacement, and he returned with 4 more nicely cooked. This noodle bar is amazing. The flavors are simple, strong, and the meals are filling. The plantain chips are to die for. The wings remind me of Portland's Pok Pok. Different flavor, but delicious.
