I would give it 3.5 if I could. The food is decent but not great. I tried the noodle soup with wide rice noodle and tofu vegetables. The broth was really sweet for a broth but I wouldn't dock a point for it. however, I have no attachment to this place. I see this place more like lunch on a workday. We ordered the poached chicken and rice monthly special, the fresh rolls and the dry noodle with chicken and wide noodles. So happy to discover this place. This restaurant is so different from all the Thai restaurants. This is not your usual red/green:yellow curry place. This place is amazing! Rarely do I go to a place and want to order everything on the menu, but here I do. I highly recommend the duck breast noodle soup (Guay Tiow Nam). The duck broth was some of the richest and delicious I have ever eaten, and puts any pho I have had to shame. The corn patties are dynamite. The lemongrass spinach noodles are fantastic. Great new addition to the Ballard restaurant scene! This noodle bar is low key. As a party of four we were able to quickly find a spot to sit on a Saturday night. Ordered the plantain chips to start which were a perfect blend of sweet, garlicky and crunchy. Everyone ordered a different bowl of noodle soup. If you don't like spicy food, beware of the Tom Yum soup broth. The waiter warned my husband it was spicy and he wasn't kidding! For dessert I highly recommend their black rice pudding with coconut ice cream. The entire table went quiet while eating it - always a good sign that the food is delicious! Food is very authentic. Items on the menu are not something I can easily find in Seattle. Ambiance is very nice. Kitchen is on the outside showing how to cook noodle as in Thai style. Krob Kem (Plantain chips) is wonderful appetizer. It is hot and crispy, a little bit of sweet from caramel. Great combination. Yummy Yummy! Yen Ta Fo (wide rice noodles and seafood in red broth) is very unique noodle. The broth is in slightly pink color but it tastes so good. Especially, when I spice the soup up a little bit with chili flake and chili vinaigrette. I also tried Guay Jub (Rolled rice noodles and pork spare ribs in herb broth). I just returned to Seattle for two weeks to housesit in Ballard and I went to this place three times. Everything I had was delicious, freshly prepared with the finest LOCAL ingredients and served with a smile. I can't recommend it highly enough! Tasty food in a tight space. We were a large party and tried quite a few dishes. Much better than your typical Pan Asian place with good flavors and quality prep. I've been here in all seasons and think this place is great. In the summer I like the different popsicle flavors and the cold noodle salads. In winter, the noodle soup bowls are comforting and warming. I also very much value the fact that their bathroom is clean and parent-friendly. They have an excellent health rating from King County, and they post up-front (literally, as soon as you enter you can see a sign) where they source the meats and tofu for their dishes. OVERRATED. EXPENSIVE. DISAPPOINTING. WHY IS EVERYTHING SO GAW DARN SWEET?! So excited when this place first opened. Thought to myself "FINALLY, a casual enough place with delicious and authentic Asian street food that we could go to once or twice a week! That won't cost an arm and a leg!" I have been here a few times now and find all the dishes to be really sweet, especially the noodle soup. Like sickening sweet. Could be from the carrots that they put in everything but HOLY COW! They put the gaw darn! Carrots in EVERYTHING! Dry noodle, wet noodles, soup noodles absolutely everything. Why am I paying so much for a dish with carrots and a side of food. I don't think this is typical for Asian, let alone Thai food in THAILAND. More like lazy filler to me. Mind you, I like all the different and creative dishes that excite you the first time you come around. But as you eat here more than a couple of times and try different dishes you start to realized now that they just use the same ingredients (carrots and Gai Lan) for every dish... so they all start to lose it's charm and starts to all taste the same. I LOVE PESTLE ROCK AND JHANJAY THAI but I don't think SEN does it for me. It appears to be a bit more affordable compare to those two sister restaurants but very expensive for the quality you're getting. Get yourself to Fremont and try ZAPVERR AND JAI THAI for the same type and the same price but better quality causal food. read more
