Service wasn't great, came by twice total. Our fairly simple order took about 35 mins. Longest I've ever waited for sushi. I made a comment and they said it was serviced in order of customers...the place was half empty. Ok, either way, rolls weren't great. Tasted like Vons sushi, at best. This restaurant is super nice a love coming here and watch their the fish swim around in their giant tank. It seems small at first but then you realize it extends pretty far off to the left so you could have a larger party if you like. The seafood is always fresh and they're always willing to accommodate for our dietary needs. The servers there are always nice and fast and they always have these cool drinks to try. I highly recommend it to anyone in a sushi mood. I've tried a lot of the sushi restaurants in San Pedro and this is by far the best one in town. There was only two busser so me and my friends were understanding of the slow service. Was there for about 1-1.5 hrs, everything took extremely long to come out. We paid the bill and forgot we ordered the shrimp boat until it came out after we paid about our bill and was getting out of our seats to leave. Giving one star to this restaurant is even a Big joke. We ordered our lunch at 12:15 pm online for delivery. We waited 1 hour for our food, and waited, but we got so hungry we called the restaurant back at 1:30m pm to find out why our food was not delivered yet. They said that they close at 1:30 pm so they cancelled our online order. So we were not notified by phone or Email so we were just left out to dry. Great place, we moved to San Pedro in February and have been at least once a month. I travel a lot so if i were home, I would go once a week. Great sushi quality and presentation. Even their house Salad dressing is wonderful. My favorite is their Rainbow Roll. Don't tell too many people about this place we won't be able to get in without a wait. They do take reservations. Going out and meeting customers and you hear that sound... Yup! It's my stomach growling, lol. My boss and I were in long beach/San Pedro looking for a place to eat. Are we going for sandwiches...? Nope! Sushi!! Yelp! Yelp! I need some Yelp finding a good sushi place! Well... It was decent, not great, not bad, but good/decent. We got a California roll, two Salmon sushi, spicy tuna hand roll, and a crunch roll. So this order of 4 items typically would take 10, MAYBE 15, minutes to make...? Not at Senfuku!!! The last four letters say it all... They are going to take 35 minutes to make 4 items!!! What the heck??!! Seriously?! LOL All I can say is thank God that we were just having a chill lunch and didn't have specific appointments or anything to be at. The food was decent/good, nothing I could rave about. The portions were decent. Just a warning they put a glob of wasabi underneath their sushi (under the fish). I have to say our server was very sweet. The chef was very nice. I had the strangest experience in this place. Sometimes I order take out a sushi place (e.g., teriyaki) while sitting at the sushi bar and having some sushi while I wait. This was my first time at Senfuku and I had been looking forward to trying the place. It was 6ish and the place was sparse (3 people at the bar). They had a hard time grasping that I wanted both - take out and to have sushi while I waited - as we went over this multiple times. The coup de gras was when the waitress came out to bring me a hot towel and the sushi chef instructed her in Japanese not to. A discussion in Japanese ensued followed by another request for clarification as to what I wanted. I again explained I wanted a spicy tuna roll (cut) and Spanish Mackeral (if they had it) while I waited. The sushi chef responded in Japanese to the waitress that they had no Spanish Mackeral and I was allowed to have the hot towel and they took my drink order (iced tea). It was rather embarrassing and I felt sincerely disrespected. At that point, I indicated that I was having doubts about whether to stay, but I did and waited for my spicy tuna roll and takeout. They brought me water and I explained that I ordered Iced Tea, at which one of the regulars responded that they were being particularly ditzy that night. Finally, I got my roll and take out. No effort was made to make me feel less uncomfortable. I paid the bill and then typed into Google Translate (for translation in Japanese) and played the Japanese as I left saying that I had looked forward to coming but that I have not felt welcome here and feel disrespected. The chef listened. I bowed at the end and left. No response at all to what I had said. Maybe I just got them on a bad night but I can't imagine coming here again when there are other sushi places nearby where the chefs are fun and don't disrespect the guests. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. We came in and got our orders taken and we waited for our food. In the meantime we got out drinks. A young boy came in right after us and ordered sushi. Ten minutes later (still no food) a group of 3 people came in right after and they were greeted and quickly given a plate of ginger and wasabi each (which we didn't get at all) while they were placing their order. I turned left and to my surprise the young boy also had a plate of wasabi and ginger. I find it very insulting that an establishment would play favorites or even worse discriminate against customers. I don't take this lightly as discrimination is a problem in today's society. The common denominator for these other customers was that they were all white. I don't know what to think of this place other than caution anyone who is of a different color to proceed at your own risk. I ended up paying for my lemonade and leaving. I will not spend my hard earned money on a business that plays favorites or discriminates. For the record, the place was not busy nor were they short staffed. Our meal consisted of the tuna roll, but The texture of the seaweed wrap was not good for me. Tuna was good though so I grubbed on that, but again it wasn't the best dish. We were a bit surprised that you have to write down your own orders on the order ticket, versus the waitress taking your order. The sushi are both listed on an order form and on the menu with a few pictures. The menu has most of the common items you'd typically see at a Japanese restaurant, served with miso soup and rice. My pork tonkatsu was a bit over cooked, so it was extremely crunchy and lacking flavor. I basically had to drowned it sauce for flavor. The California roll as alright, nothing special. Locals eat here...fishermen that know their fish, dockworkers that don't take any shit, and surfers that want to warm up behind a tall Sapporo and get their fill of tuna belly. Some of the RPV/Pedro nouveau-riche yuppie-scum have discovered the place now and have begun haunting the 7th Street art scene and popping in for a skoshi bite but you shouldn't let that stop you from enjoying yourself, you're armed, remember? I've been looking for a decent sushi joint that I can walk to so I gave this place a try. I was pretty disappointed in terms of taste, price and decor. I had salmon, yellowtail, masago, albacore and a salmon skin hand roll. The albacore came soaking in ponzu that tasted spoiled. The salmon, yellowtail and masago were OK. The salmon skin hand roll was fairly good, thumbs up for the daikon and burdock root, but it was missing a little something. I sat in the dining area away from the sushi bar. Now, tacky decor I do not mind, but shoddy construction bugs me. Nail heads were visible in the drywall making it look like a home renovation gone bad. The booth seats were duct taped in places and it was peeling off. Wouldn't want to sit on those! Although their prices are not out of line, I've had far fresher sushi at literally a third of the cost. I won't be back. :( read more

Coming from Tokyo I've been in search for fresh sushi place which satisfy our spoiled tongue...and this is the place!! Yoshi gets his fresh seafood daily from local fisherman and sea urchin pickers and they are amazing. Fresh-ness and simple taste of food here is how you'd find your sushi and seafood in Tokyo. He was trained in central Tokyo, Ginza, Setagaya where people know their sushi! It's not a place to enjoy creative rolls many American restaurants serve, which I consider is American food, not authentic Japanese sushi. The server brought out our drinks quickly and the edamame app. We ordered dinner and three of the four entrees were brought out quickly. My friend's sushi came out after we had all finished ours. So my friends had been raving about this place claiming it had amazing sushi. A few of us ventured off one Friday morning to San Pedro for the Farmer's Market which was so so. Our hunger kicked in and sushi just seemed like a good idea for a light lunch. One of my friends had been there before and was excited that I was finally going to try this restaurant. The place was kind of empty but since its more of a dinner instead of lunch place we figured it was normal. Well the Miso Soup was good (it's great when you are hungover!) but the sushi was just ok. Even the friend who had been there was surprised at how blah the rolls were this time around! The service was great though, the lady working there was very attentive and nice. I'm not going to give up on this place....maybe we went on an off day or something. Definitely will try this place for dinner ...we shall see, I will keep you posted Yelp! read more
