This spot features gluten free Korean style food in a Chipotle-esque quick service format. What a great concept! Ever since my wife found out she had celiac disease she hasn't been able to eat Korean food since most of is made with marinades or other ingredients that would otherwise be full of gluten. When I found this place, I knew we had to go check it out! Everything is 100% gluten free, including the cookies! There was a pretty decent line when we walked in and it took a little while since there were only 2 employees working. You choose your base, a protein and last your toppings. The price is based on what protein you choose. The toppings are free except for a couple premium ones like a soft boiled egg which was really good! I highly recommend the japchae noodle with bulgogi beef! It was so tasty, I wanted to come back for more! But alas we didn't have time during the rest of our trip to stop by again! Seating is limited to a handful of stools and a big stadium style wooden bench. If it's lunch rush you may have to take your food to go. We were lucky to be able to squeeze in on the bench and quickly scarfed down our food. We will definitely we back the next time we're in DC!! read more

Delicious DIY bowls with a heap of toppings to choose from! The chewy jap chae glass noodles and sweet soy marinated tofu is bursting with flavor! The purple rice was fun to try, but clumpy and dry. The kale, corn, carrots slow, cucumbers topped with sesame seeds and crispy garlic and cilantro lime ranch dressing elevated the noodles and tofu. The fresh squeezed kale and apple juice and the Oyzo honey juices were delicious and tastes really well mixed. So glad this spot opened up in Nov around the corner from my office. Excited to come back next week. They have a digital rewards program and glad I signed up for it! Carry-out only, there's no indoor or outdoor seating. read more

Interesting experience. My cousin and I were walking around the downtown area and found this place. I ordered a bowl with chicken and all vegetables except for kimchi and another vegetable, which I could not identify (brings me to my suggestion). The menu states vegetables on the menu above; however, does not have the kinds of ingredients used to customize the bowls listed on the glass separating the customer from the food and the employees. I am thinking a system like Baskin Robbins would be better, where flavors are listed top to bottom as they are located in distance from you and the glass. I had to tell the employee helping me out that I wanted the vegetable nearest to me or vegetable closest to the backwall. It was just inconvenient. read more

This is my MEATLESS MONDAY go to!! It USED to be Bibibop (they actually promote a meatless Monday bowl) but the food at SeoulSpice has more...well SOUL (which equals flavor in my book)! They're very convenient location wise if you're looking for affordable food that isn't a museum cafe near the national mall. There's not too much special to it, they're fast casual bowls on the same quality level you'd get from the likes of chipotle. The seating isn't great, so probably better for take out than dine in. Just a few weeks ago, I tried another nearby fast casual Korean spot and wasn't very pleased, so I decided to give SeoulSpice a try and this place did not disappoint. Service was quick, staff was friendly, and the menu is displayed up and high, so you can see exactly what your base options are, veggie limits, protein options, etc. I opted for the SeoulTrain bowl, which I turned into a bibimbap with purple rice as my base. I can't quite describe the rice because it was different; it seemed like it had lentils (?) in it. No idea, but I liked it. All SeoulTrain toppings were great and the overall portion of the bibimbap bowl was just right for lunch. I'd definitely visit SeoulSpice again! read more

Super filling! The menu and ordering system (chipotle style) is very straight forward and there's plenty of topping and sauces options would I thought was cool. Service was quick and fast and the restaurant was very clean. Lots of seating as well. There's only a few bar stools, but there's additional seating on the wooden staircase in the corner of the restaurant. I got a rice bowl with bulgogi, which was excellent! All the ingredients used were fresh. The servers aren't afraid of PACKING your bowl. They were very generous with portioning. I ended up having to eat my bowl in 2 sittings. read more

Key Updates: *Ordered "Rice Bowl" w/chicken, corn, cucumbers, cilantro, scallions, ginger carrot sauce, sesame oil, egg, + avocado. *Good Premium Toppings - Avocado topping is 1/2 a whole avocado + Boiled Egg is slightly cooked, giving the yolk a tasty 'jelly-like' texture. *Subpar packaging - lid pops off very easily + sauces leak easily. (This has happened multiple times - even if you put the bowl in a handlebar bag!) Great quick-and-go Korean-style food! We were new to the restaurant and the server was very kind and explained to us how the system worked. This place might be good for takeout, but the dining an experience is terrible. It's a relatively large space, but when you walk inside, all of the tables have been taken out and there are only a set of three wooden risers to sit on to the side of the restaurant. I'm all about a good takeout place but this is not how this restaurant is advertised when I search for it on yelp. I was hungry and I walked several blocks to sit down and eat some bomb Korean food. It was hot as Hades in there, and you are eating hunched over with no table cramped on some risers with a bunch of other people. No thank you. read more

Came here with my lovely fiancé for lunch after the cherry blossom festival and wow I am so glad we stopped here! Since he lives around here he already knew how well the food was! Whenever we walked in I could smell the yummy food I was excited! It was like an ordering station like chipotle. We both got rice bowls and added what we wanted in them. The seating area was what struck me there were only four chairs in total near the window but then there were these step like area where people were able to sit and just eat which I found very fascinating! This was a solid spot. By the time I added in the bulgogi I thought the price might've been a bit high for what I got, but it was still tasty so it was worth trying out. The noodles were quite satisfying, but a second bowl I had with with a mixture of white and purple rice was so much better. I'd suggest that combo any day. The spot is worth checking out, and odds are if I'm in the neighborhood again I'll pop in again. read more

The fam and I had been walking around DC for a bit and wanted to get a bite to eat before we headed home. A build-your-own Korean food concept... I was game!! The food was gluten-free and healthy! We ordered 2 Klassik bowls with beef bulgogi, one with purple rice and the other with the glass noodles (japchae) and it was excellent! There was kale, cucumber, and their classic hot sauce. I was obsessed with the concept and it was simple... very casual setup. The food was exceptional! I could have probably eaten 2 bowls myself. They have cookies and fountain drinks too but we just opted for water. This was very close to the hotel we normally stay at in DC, so I'm thrilled that it's walking distance from there! We will definitely be back! Customer service was excellent and they keep the shop very clean! Thank you for starting this concept! I hope to see many more of these pop up! read more

The employees were very rude and unprofessional, more specifically the African American female that had dreadlocks in her hair. I walked in, needing to use the restroom, while my spouse and son reviewed the menu, and was told that the only way that I could use their restroom was if I buy something right away (immediately). Not only was the employee extremely rude in her delivery, but her overall attitude deterred me from even wanting to purchase anything from that establishment or refer any of my contacts, friends, or family to them. I would suggest that management train their employees on professional customer service skills. read more

At first I was obsessed but after 3 months and a few experiences...3 stars because I found a strand of hair in my rice bowl and every time I go the smell in there gets strongly worse and unappetizing. It's not worth the $$ anymore and food isn't as consistently warm. One day my food is cold and the next it's a little warm. You place a curbside order and no one answers the phone so you have to leave your car in a non designated parking space and risk it. I don't think I'll be going back again. The meat was tender the pear was nice and refreshing but to be honest, I consider this hard to mess up as long as the meat is good. My wife said that she wishes we just ordered two of these and nothing else lol. 5. Drinks (non-alcoholic - one was yakult and the other I think was passionfruit) - my wife really enjoyed both drinks so I guess I'll round up the review to 4 stars. While it isn't made using a fully traditional Korean method, it was absolutely delicious -- easily the best kimchi fried rice I've had in the past few years. We also ordered their signature pork and potato stew. It was excellent; the chili flavour was smooth, and every ingredient was wonderfully seasoned. The restaurant is actually much larger inside than I expected, with a modern setup that works well for smaller groups. That said, I didn't really notice tables for larger parties, so I'm not sure how they accommodate groups bigger than 6 people. Service started off a little rough because our server wasn't very attentive, but after I called it out, he definitely stepped it up and things improved.
