I had a really disappointing experience on 4/18/26 around 2:30 PM at the Dior gondola. I approached an associate (an older white woman wearing red lipstick) to ask for a foundation sample. I explained that I've been color-matched as olive at other locations--specifically in the Armani foundation--and that I wanted to explore other options due to the recent reformulation. Instead of listening, she repeatedly insisted that I wasn't olive. It got to the point where she refused to provide me with the sample I specifically asked for. Without my permission, she grabbed different shades and swiped them on my hand, saying, "See, you're the opposite of olive," which felt both dismissive and unprofessional. What made the situation worse was that she called over a coworker and told her, "Tell her she's not olive," rather than actually helping me find a suitable match. This felt invalidating and unnecessary. As many people know, store lighting isn't always accurate, and I came in with prior professional matches and simply wanted to try a product. I've never had such a negative customer service experience--especially when it comes to something as personal as shade matching. Located in the Tustin Marketplace. A good sized store with a lot packed in - almost too much to comfortably walk through. It's shocking that with so many employees you either struggle to get help or find them just chatting away with their peers. I was greeted as I entered, which is always a plus then had a fabulous person, named Angie, who helped me locate what I was looking for. She made me feel important and knew what I was seeking. She even persisted to look for the exact color I wanted in their stock drawers. When I went to checkout, the person just rang it up without any conversation. Then as I paid for it she just turned to her colleague and started talking. No good-by, thank you for shopping here, have a good day, nothing. Horrible experience from start to finish. I walked in and the manager immediately gave attitude when I asked for help. One of the workers ended up giving me the wrong makeup shade even though my correct shade was already saved on my profile. When I came back to return it because my face looked orange, one of the workers laughed at me and said, "Who told you that?" That's not funny when I spent a lot of money on this makeup. Another worker later confirmed I had been given the wrong shade the entire time. I asked to file a written complaint and was told they "don't do that" and that I could only speak to the manager. The manager apologized but then said since I didn't know the employee's name, there was nothing she could do -- which I later found out was not true after calling customer service. They told me complaints can absolutely be documented and they keep records on file. Worst experience ever. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I first want to give credit to Kelly, whom was very professional and helpful ( as well as truly knows what she is doing. The first foundation that she picked up was the perfect match, and she knew what kinds of products would help my sensitive skin). I'm not sure if she is a regular employee at this location or if she was an Ilia representative. The first girl( didn't get her name) who helped me was getting easily impatient ( she kept swiping on yellow toned foundations and I am a cool/ neutral. When I told her they didn't match my skin tone, she said she was just looking for what formulation I liked( I'd already explained that in detail, so no). Thankfully she defered to her coworker,Kelly. I am deducting stars because the cashier( after my husband and I spending $350 in products!) ,didn't so much as say hello or thank you, and seemed genuinely checked out. I get that we all have bad days,so I will give her the benefit of the doubt, but what really bothered us is that we went back the next day to get my husband some face wash, and were followed by a taller woman with short hair in a ponytail that was shaved underneath. When I asked her if a particular product was " clean" ,she laughed and said " There is no such thing as "clean" beauty products". Then mocked me when I tried to explain that we were looking for something that didn't have the usual chemicals. She kept drilling me about what I use( we were there for my husband) and telling me if I looked up the ingredients,they would not be clean ( this, even though unbeknownst to her, I had been sold many products by Ilia in that very store the night before, and was told that was a " clean" brand). Plus she was trying to tell my husband that he would need three products to remove sunscreen( I get that they just want to rack up sales). When I challenged this( given my face wash takes off makeup and sunscreen) , she started to argue( I didn't engage). Terrible customer service. This store definitely needs to train their employees on customer service and understanding what kind of industry they are working in. It's the holidays and the store hours are listed as 9:00pm, I arrived at the store at 8:59pm and they wouldn't let me pick up my order. I showed Denise the time on the phone was 8:59pm and she rolled her eyes and said we just closed the registers, mind you there were still customers walking around in the store "making their last selections". I had already placed and paid for the order. I called ahead and told them I was on my way, so they just needed to hand me my bag. Nothing that would take more than 30 seconds-so the store would still be open. I understand the holidays are stressful and everyone wants to go home, but honor your store hours and show some kindness, it can really go a long way. Instead of showing the customer comes first and making me want to shop at this location more often, they have shows their priorities and proven that I'm better off taking my business to another location. I visited here today for the Sephora sale because I've never worn makeup but wanted to get into it. I had a list of products I wanted to try per recommendations from friends. I was approached twice by different workers. The first worker was extremely rude and not helpful in the slightest. After explaining to him my friend said this shade would work for me and said "well your friend is wrong" and after swatching shades on me he then poked at my insecurities and said they need to be fixed and proceeded to give me an eye roll. I came in with a gift receipt to exchange a Stila eyeliner I received for Christmas. While the product was unused, I had missed the return window and hadn't realized the policy wasn't clearly stated on the gift receipt. I usually wear the shade Lionfish, but this one was black--not a match for my daily look. Kassandra kindly informed me that the return was outside the allowed timeframe, but rather than turning me away, she took the extra step of consulting with Sam. Sam, with professionalism and patience, explained the return policy and, after some thoughtful discussion, approved the exchange. She exercised exceptional leadership, empathy, and sound judgment--transforming what could have been a frustrating experience into a seamless one. On top of that, Sam went above and beyond by preparing a few samples of a bestselling Christian Dior foundation I'd been eyeing. I've already fallen in love with it and plan to purchase it soon. After my recent experience with this store, I am done with Sephora. The dismissive attitude of their associates and especially their manager is appalling. I went in last month to get a really nice foundation for my wedding. At that time, the associates were distracted despite me asking for help. They suggested a foundation and color which I purchased. When I put it on at home, I looked orange! It was so dark and unatttactive. I had to go back to my OTC brand instead. Because of my wedding, honeymoon, etc. I was 5 days over their 30 day limit to return it. When I explained the situation, the manager gave me a smug, sorry. Nothing we can do. Honestly I love coming to this Sephora! Today especially I went to splurge since I was graduating. Miss Catherine and Michael from Patrick Ta were absolutely amazing! I was a bit nervous talking about make up, but they made it so easy! Catherine really was giving me great tips on types of primer suited for my skin and foundation. Then it just happens that Michael was there for the Patrick Ta make up, they were super sweet and honest! They did an amazing job explaining how to apply the makeup, and just explaining everything! The employee by the door looked annoyed when I told her I normally don't wear make up and not sure which foundation/CC/BB product I need. She told me she was going to grab someone else to help me. I walked around the store for about ten minutes without any help. There were two groups of employees chatting away about life. I finally asked Christian if he could help me. Yesterday I came into Sephora in Tustin. I've gone there before, a few times for a color match on foundation. But I could never truly get the right color, it was always too yellow or too light. I met a sales associate yesterday by the name of Tasha. And let me tell you, Tasha did her a big one with my face. She went through different shades and tested them all on me. She worked so hard to help me. She ended up matching me perfectly, this foundation looks just like my skin. I didn't know it was possible for me to have an exact match. For the first time in my life I have a perfect match. Not to mention, she introduced me to a cream to remove the redness from my face so that I don't have to wear the foundation all the time. And it WORKED...That was life changing for me. If Tasha had not come along, I would've left without purchasing anything because I was truly lost. No one has ever cared so much about my needs. My 45th birthday is coming up and I just want to feel confident on my night. Tasha made that possible for me. I put the foundation on this morning and looked at it in different lights.
