I return here from time to time for their delicious vegetarian tacos. I go for the corn tortillas since they make them here. The color of the tortillas are light purple, I adore it due to its unfamiliar color. I love the simple but elegante design in the interior and the cute outdoor eating space is charming when the weather is warm and sunny. I have tried their vegetarian burrito bowl and it was good. I ordered the Birria tacos. For the price I was extremely surprised around the quality of food. The 3 tacos were not consistent in terms of what was inside and basically tasted like they only had beef in them with little seasoning or hardly any cabbage or lettuce. Basically beef inside a corn tortilla. My boyfriend got the steak quesadilla which he liked but was a very small portion for the price. Both were basically appetizer portions for the price of expensive Mexican entrees. My visits to Serrano Salsa were frequent since its pandemic grand opening. A welcome addition on Broadway and frequented often because of its location. However they've slacked off major on their customer service. On my last visit, I arrived 30 mins before closing and was the only customer there. No food at home meant a great option for local eats. I worked in kitchens and understand all workers want to close. But we've always honored closing as to mean official close time/start of cleaning area. My order for three tacos placed with the manager was visibly met with eyerolls. Serranos is small , so when the kitchen asked who the order was for, I was referred by the manager as the "chingado" sitting in the seat. She called my name when the order was ready, and I thanked her without her acknowledgment. The thanks was met with her silence and her staring at the wall. I'm a big enchilada fan. Their enchiladas are very flavorful and the portions are large. I had mine filled with chicken with green sauce. The order also comes with rice, black beans, pico de Gallo and the enchiladas are topped with lettuce, sour cream, and cotiija cheese. Unlike other Mexican restaurants, their black beans were well seasoned which is an A+. Will definitely order from this spot again. read more

Tried the adobada (tacos al pastor) along with carnitas and the nachos with steak. Every item was amazing. I loved the fresh blue corn tortilla chips in the nachos along with the additional fresh ingredients and the tender steak. The tacos were also delicious - fresh corn tortillas make all the difference. The sauces were also delicious. My favorite was the adobada (al pastor) - Smokey and sweet. I picked up my order, and will note kitchen was also clean and everything was freshly prepared. I'm thrilled to have this in the neighborhood and I look forward to trying many more items from their menu. Highly recommended. read more

Unfortunately, my recent experiences with Serrano Salsa have not been good. However, I saw a new item on the menu which was roast pork shoulder taco. I ordered the first time and it was delicious. I ordered them two nights ago and received 2 tacos that had a little too much fat in them but still acceptable. I received a 3rd taco that was only filled with fat. I do mean that there was only fat in the taco. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager and who first tried to explain to me what roast pork shoulder is and that " this is how we make it". Excuse me, that may be how you make it but it should never be how you serve it. I've had some careless takeout sent to me this year as well. But, I always took a break and always tried again. However, Serrano Salsa has lost a customer for good. After much back and forth, the manager offered to refund the entire taco order. I just checked my credit card statement and I was refunded one taco. The food can be good when they are on. However, if they run low on an item, they will clearly serve you whatever is left in the bottom of the pan. It's not the first time. I am writing this review because not only was the food was inedible but customer service was most importantly and shockingly lacking. It's clear that they do not care about their customers or the quality of their food. read more

It's a no from me dawg I really don't know how this place has 4.5 stars. It was my first time ordering and I ordered a few items on the menu to give them a taste. I was so excited to see birria tacos on the menu, I've been dying to taste them. I went into this order very optimistic. I called in to make my order I completely forgot to say what kind of beans I wanted in my burrito but I also feel like I should've been asked. The delivery was quick and the hot sauce included was verrry spicy and flavorful fui but thats was the only upside. Sadly the food was flavorless, the consomé for the birria was pure grease I also got a ball of fat in one of my tacos that made me just gag. I tried my best to eat all of the food but I really just couldn't. Hours after eating I feel like it's stuck in the pit of my stomach and I just want to throw it up. read more

I really wanted to love this place but I wasn't satisfied one bit. The staff was nice and the location was very clean. I ordered 6 tacos, guac and chips, and a horchatas. I only enjoyed the horchata and chips (they taste like Fritos) -the guac was ok, but nothing special. *Tacos were very disappointing and weren't seasoned well or lacked seasoning. Great place for tacos. Owner shows fantastic hospitality. After climbing, I was starving. Saw this place with people dining inside. Although there was a sign blocking the door, I was not sure if it was still open. I knocked and the owner welcomed me and asked me what I would like. I ordered al pastor, carne asada and chicken tacos. They were fairly light In comparison to most tacos I had. Usually, either the meat is over salted or too much sauce on top. Their tortilla is specially made. Kinda of tough for tortilla which made it great to hold. Nothing fell apart like it usually does. He also gave me a free Jamaica. Great place to order taco to go. I can't believe it took me this long to discover this absolute gem in the neighborhood. The food is incredible - haven't had fish tacos this good since I left LA a few years ago, and there are some tasty Oaxaca dishes too. The homemade corn tortillas are the perfect blend of fluffy, chewy, and crunchy. This is really a very small hole in the wall restaurant. It is not much to look at but this is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had and certainly the best on the upper West side. Ordered delivery once in the pouring rain and pick up twice. While the delivery was a bit colder than we'd have liked - it was pouring rain and can't really fault anyone. Nonetheless - EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. FRESH. Fresh fresh. Guac and avocados on your food are fresh and not brown from sitting out, lettuce is fresh, rice fluffy. Tomatoes and onions bright and crisp. Chips aren't overly salty. We have been supporting this local spot since they opened and found the food to be made with care and a welcome change to what is available in the neighborhood. While the food has become a bit unreliable, we continued to support them since it is a most challenging time to operate a restaurant. Would I eat here if it was located outside my neighborhood? Likely not. The food is fine but really not the flavorful true Mexican cooking that I love. It's basically our go to when there isn't any food in the house. That has value so we have been somewhat regular customers My final straw with them is their inability to get orders correct. every time, something is missing. Sometimes we are overcharged. We have to wait on hold to resolve the issue, and then the missing food will arrive after everyone else finished eating. And they seem to have an issue with providing salsa for tacos and tostadas, which is unheard anywhere in Mexico or elsewhere. I'd accept it if the food actually had flavor and some picante... Hopefully they can resolve their issues with orders and try to bring some more consistency to their food. As a local spot, they really need to make sure their delivery has a lot less headaches. read more

This tiny spot has become a huge favorite of mine since it opened a few years ago. The food always tastes like real fresh food prepared at home. Everything is just so yummy.
