Serrano Salda is a gift to the neighborhood, the city. Their food is excellent, fresh and delish...and they are active supporters of the local area food pantry. They donate a ton of food to the Isham/Seaman pantry fund raising events each year. I know, b/c I volunteer at these events...the taco night, chili night...Serrano is always there to provide supplies to help us raise money to feed our needy neighbors. Just when we had utterly given up on finding good vegan Mexican food in NYC, we discovered this gem tucked away in Inwood. We were blown away by the high quality, extensive vegan options. Nearly anything on the menu can be made vegan, with multiple types of plant-based proteins ranging from tofu to jackfruit to seitan to soyrizo to veggie. I really appreciate that they have vegan black beans, pinto beans, and refried beans. The prices are high, but the flavors are authentic and the portions are satisfying. We loved the burritos, black bean tamales, and enchilada platters. The even have vegan cheese and crema, and the homemade salsas are incredible. Service is fast, although they make you feel like they're doing you a favor ordering food with them. Guacamole: the guac is good, although you'd expect it to come with chips, for $10. If you want chips, it's another $6. So, before ordering it, remember that you're paying $16 for a serving of guacamole and chips. Tacos al pastor: solid. Not a lot of meat, though. Fish tacos: very good. Get them. Tacos de carne asada: just ok. The quality of the beef if average. Chicken quesadilla: a legit portion, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Overall, we weren't wowed. Considering that you're paying just for the food, prices are not where they should be. For the same price, you can get better tacos elsewhere with more amenities and better service. Not going back. read more

I couldn't wait for this place to open !! It was Election Day when walked by and realized they were finally up and running. The reasurant is a bit small so it isnt too much of a dine in restaurant though they do have some tables outside that would be great when it's warmer out. The staff is extremely attentive, they were friendly and made sure my order was perfect. The foos is absolutely amazing, from the tacos to the sides to the nachos. Serrano Salsa is an incredible restaurant that we are lucky to have in the neighborhood! On two separate occasions we have ordered catering for a gathering at our apartment and the food was perfect, affordable and our guests couldn't stop raving about it. Additionally, we are frequent patrons of their restaurant for taco Tuesday (and taco any other day of the week we have a craving)! We also always order a large container of their salsa Maya hot sauce so we have it on hand for our Serrano orders and any other food we want to add it to! Let it be known...not only is this the best Mexican in Inwood (I knew that on my very first bite of an Al pastor taco), I've come to believe that Serrano belongs in the very top echelon of Mexican food city-wide. After 10 visits give or take, I've tried much of what is on the menu and I'm amazed by the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Their tacos are truly excellent, and can be served on delicious corn tortillas that are a step up from the typical ones you find in a grocery store. Guacamole and chips (homemade!) is another regular order, as are a side of rice & beans. You can tell a lot about a kitchen by the quality of their staples, and the cooks at Serrano clearly pay special attention to even the simplest menu items. Speaking of, from what I've observed the entire kitchen is female operated, which is rare in my experience. Service is warm and friendly and even though it's a small space they keep it neat and tidy. All employees have been diligent when it comes to masks, hair caps and gloves. Lastly, don't forget the soups! So far I've tried both tortilla and chicken and they were amazing. I love Mexican food but not a lot of places have vegan options. Serrano Salsa has several plant based protein options including tofu, jackfruit, vegan chorizo and seitan. The first time we ordered jackfruit tacos, a veggie burrito and the enchiladas with chorizo. So impressed with flavors, delivery time and portion sizes. The second time we ordered a chorizo burrito and a veggie burrito. Sadly we did not take photos because we were being greedy BUT if you're a vegan, have been in search of some fire vegan Mexican food in the uptown area then you HAVE to give this place a try. Often walk by here and las Sunday finally decided to stop on and try the food. I ordered: steak taco, pork taco, fish taco, elote and guacamole and chips. The food was delicious and fresh. We sat outside to enjoy our yummy food they do not have an alcohol license yet but we were able to buy some Coronas next door at a deli and brought them over to our tables outside. We loved the food so much we called a few friends to join us and we kept ordering tacos, we must of sat outside drinking beers and ordering tacos for about 5 hrs. We also met some great ppl in the neighborhood who were eating outside. We loved the food and ambiance, they did a great job with the small outdoor space they have. Can't wait to come back and eat more tacos and try the fruit paletas, we were too full from our yummy tacos. The taco Bria was good. But it was a bit soggy and the amount of Bria sauce was a good portion. I was just not happy in paying $17.41 for just $4 each taco and plus bri sauce has to charge extra for the order that comes with it because of the charge I'm assuming. We were thrilled to see a new Mexican spot open up at this spot. The owner is the wife of the owner of Grandpa's Pizza, located almost next door, so it's cool to have another restaurant in the family. The menu at Serrano offers breakfast items, tacos, tostadas, burritos, and specialties. We sampled the nachos, veggie enchiladas, and veggie quesadillas. The offerings at Serrano stand out in a few ways. First of all, the corn tortillas are really delicious and have a unique flavor. They're homemade and organic, so they taste so much better than the typical packaged tortillas you get everywhere else. These tortillas are thick, corny, and delicious. Second of all, the green sauce on the enchiladas is very tasty and even has a little bit of a very welcome kick. Sauces are so key in Mexican cuisine, and Serrano nailed this particular sauce. Lastly, the filling in the enchiladas and quesadillas was so much better and more interesting than just cheese. In addition to cheese, there was zucchini, onion, and I believe nopal. The vegetables had a nice crunch and tasted very, very fresh. The service was kind and polite, and the kitchen appears extremely clean and efficient. Folks are masked and gloved. We will definitely return to Serrano, as we are mighty curious about their breakfast, especially the burrito. How I long for breakfast burritos and have such difficulty finding them in Manhattan! This place is such a gem and great addition to the neighborhood. Now that the weather is warming up, I can't wait to hang out and eat at the cute little area they set up outside. The menu is extensive - but don't let that worry you. We've had a taste of many different dishes and all have been fantastic. Here are our standouts: Mole anything. Their mole is legit. A little bite to it, but perfect. It's a poblano style, but not super sweet. Not Negro, but flirting with it. Great consistency, and even more depth in flavor when it's leftover for the next day! I really really wish they had huevos enmolados . I cannot find them here and would have to try not to order them daily. For now, I ask for a side of mole and make my own. Al pastor. They have a trompo, so the meat is coming fresh off the spit. It's delicious and perfectly tender. Mexican omelette. This was delicious and had Mexican squash (zucchini but with a lighter skin and specks) in it. It was light and perfectly cooked. Rajas con crema Side. This is personal, because it's one of my all time favorite things and they do it really really well, so I don't have to make it at home when I crave it. Basically it is roasted poblano peppers, sautéed onions, corn, and cream sauce. In Mexico, you'll see this as a main dish sometimes with chicken mixed in - but here they leave it out and make it a side. It is so good. And they price it well! Vegan options! They are so awesome that they have a HUGE selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. This means you can bring your friends That have stricter dietary requirements. Seasonal Paletas! They are selling the paletas you find in the grocery - La Michoacana style (but I can't remember the brand right now). They have a good selection and they out them out in time for summer. The deli next door also has them sometimes, so between the two you should have all your paleta cravings met. They deliver to Riverdale, and are close to the train so no excuses! Order from them! Between Serrano Salsa and G's DelI on 207, Inwood has some of the best Mexican selections around. This is one of my favorite restaurants in New York. I have eaten here at least a dozen times and it is always spectacular. In the rain, in the cold, in the blazing hot sun, it is always worth it to stop here for tacos, huaraches, tamales... They have so many vegetarian AND VEGAN options! Everything is so fresh and flavorful! Each of their salsas is delicious! Truly, everything I have ordered here has been excellent, but for non-meat proteins I especially recommend that you try the jamaica tinga and the jackfruit. If you are ordering something that comes with cheese (for example, the fantastic huaraches), you can request vegan cheese. This is one of the best Mexican options in Manhattan. That being said, it's very pricey in comparison to options in California for the same quality food. Supply and demand really hits the note here. In regards to customer service, it is great and they deliver. On one occasion, I paid for a salsa which they had accidentally didn't include when I picked up our cinco de Mayo meal. The 3 tacos were not consistent in terms of what was inside and basically tasted like they only had beef in them with little seasoning or hardly any cabbage or lettuce. My visits to Serrano Salsa were frequent since its pandemic grand opening. A welcome addition on Broadway and frequented often because of its location. However they've slacked off major on their customer service. On my last visit, I arrived 30 mins before closing and was the only customer there. No food at home meant a great option for local eats. I worked in kitchens and understand all workers want to close. But we've always honored closing as to mean official close time/start of cleaning area. My order for three tacos placed with the manager was visibly met with eyerolls. Serranos is small , so when the kitchen asked who the order was for, I was referred by the manager as the "chingado" sitting in the seat. She called my name when the order was ready, and I thanked her without her acknowledgment. The thanks was met with her silence and her staring at the wall. I return here from time to time for their delicious vegetarian tacos. I go for the corn tortillas since they make them here. The color of the tortillas are light purple, I adore it due to its unfamiliar color. I love the simple but elegante design in the interior and the cute outdoor eating space is charming when the weather is warm and sunny. I have tried their vegetarian burrito bowl and it was good. The order also comes with rice, black beans, pico de Gallo and the enchiladas are topped with lettuce, sour cream, and cotiija cheese.
