We came here looking for more of a romantic dinner and the first thing I noticed when walking in was the loud noise from the tables. Before your even seated it's noticed. The meals were OK, one being shrimp scampi and the other was sea scallops. We did have a bottle of wine and the one selected off the list was not what was actually brought to the table. I came here for dinner and was not disappointed! The restaurant has a bright atmosphere with lots of natural light. It feels pretty casual and is a moderately sized space. We started with the tuna roll, which was unexpected but tasted good. It was kind of mushy on the inside, which was a weird texture, but the flavors were great. I got the shrimp and bay scallops special with penne. It tasted great and I loved the cream sauce that was mixed in. My favorite part was the homemade bread. It had so much flavor and was a surprising addition to my dish. My mom got the scallops with mashed potatoes and peas. She described the peas as some of the best she's ever had! The potatoes were a bit bland for me but she loved them. The scallops were giant and tasted wonderful. The portions were huge, so I think we could've skipped the appetizer or shared an entree. They also didn't have a ton of gluten free options (my mom is allergic to wheat), although I appreciated he effort the waitress made to check with the chef whenever we had questions about the menu. Overall I'd recommend this place to anyone visiting key west! It kind of felt off the beaten path in a way, away from the crazy duval street, which was nice. read more

I wanted to like this place so much. I was really looking forward to it. One of the main reasons was for their seafood pasta. However, I was left very disappointed. This restaurant is a little off the beaten path. It isn't right on Duval or close to Mallory Square, so you probably haven't seen it as you must venture out a little. The only reason I knew about it was because it came up when I looked for seafood pasta. This is what I really wanted! When you go in, it looks really hip and modern. The outside has a cool sign with blue backlighting. The person who greeted us was nice and our waitress was prompt and attentive. I ordered the key lime martini and it was so good and refreshing. Served in a cute little martini glass. We ordered the sushi as a starter. The sautéed grouper roll was pretty good. Not the best sushi I have had, but certainly not the worst. It was a little plain, but this isn't a sushi restaurant. For the main dish, I ordered the seafood marinara pasta. I assure you, that is what I ordered, but that was not what I received. What I did receive was a big bowl of minestrone soup with some seafood. There is no way that was marinara sauce. It was thin and watery (like soup) with chopped vegetables. Now if this is traditional, I have never seen it. My grandmother was from Italy and I promise, she never made marinara sauce this way. I had my husband taste just to confirm and he agreed it tasted more like minestrone soup than marinara. Now, I'm not saying it was bad minestrone soup, but that's not what I wanted. Also, they say the clams are chopped, but they must be chopped so finely you can't see them or so scarce it's hard to find. There were a few bites of shrimp and mahi mahi, but not a lot. I was very, very disappointed. My husband ordered the Thai curry red snapper and wasn't nearly as disappointed. He really enjoyed his meal. He let me try a bite and I thought it was bland, but it could have just been the bite he gave me. He was very pleased and it is a local favorite. Overall, if you choose to come here, I would stay away from the pasta dishes. Sea scallops, fish tacos, or the Thai curry yellowtail might be solid choices. I wouldn't trust the pasta though. I wish I had ordered something else because my husband really enjoyed his dinner. I just couldn't get past the disappointment of my entrée though. read more

This was our special treat meal Great food, I had the snapper, kids had plain noddles and mussels, and wife and FIL had noddle dishes. All of them were great, came with generous slices of bread (great for the mussels, I do t think there was drop of the mussel sauce that wasn't dipped up). This restaurant is a must visit in Key West. You do have to have a reservation though, because the wait time can run you between 40 minutes to an hour, especially on the weekends. We started off our meal with the Grilled Shrimp over sesame red cabbage slaw. It was a great refreshing start. My daughter had the Shrimp Scampi with asparagus. I thought it tasted really good, but for a Shrimp Scampi dish, it didn't quite do it for me. It honestly tasted more like a Pesto Shrimp pasta to me. So if you like pesto pasta, this is a MUST. My boyfriend had the Gnocchi Pasta, which he had high praise for. I had a tuna poke on a bed of cucumbers, which I thought was amazingly delicious. My husband rated his a 5 star, I give it a 4.5. His dinner was the grilled Mahi over roasted potatoes and veggies. The BEEEEESSSSTTTT Mahi either of of have ever had!!! Melted in our mouths. So fresh. I got the crab & shiitake mushroom pasta. It was delightful and had a great flavor profile, BUT the crab part was a bit of a let-down. I really wish it had more "chunk" crab in it so it stood out more. Service was great. We did not have a reservation at 8:30 on a Friday night during spring break month. Yikes! But we walked right in. First the food was spectacular. I had the the scallops at one visit the grouper at another visit and the snapper at a 3rd visit and all of these dishes were superb. The fact that we ate there 3 times during our vacation is evidence to the quality of food they serve. Second the staff was so friendly and helpful. They made me feel as if I was a regular customer entitled to their best care. I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner and believe that you will be happy with anything you order. We came from our Dry Tortugas boat ride, tired and hungry. 7 Fish welcomed us as we were and gave us great serve and a meal that hit the spot! I had the local favorite, it was good! I like curry so I would like more curry. My husband had the scampi and it too was really good! The grand finally was the Brownie! OMG!! I have a mascara called "better than sex", this was a better than sex brownie!! The chocolate just melts in your mouth. My husband ordered the brownie and I could not stop! 3.5 stars for a slightly above average meal that was exorbitantly over priced. The theme of Key Wear has been subpar dining at above average prices. Cocktails here weren't too shabby. We loved the skinny pina colada which was refreshing and strong. Pass on any of the sushi. Not sushi by even grocery store standards. For dinner we got the popular grouper dish with curry and while the pics make it look pretty basic the flavor was good and the dish itself worked. I'd recommend that. For our other dish we got a Alfredo pasta because they were out of their gnocchi and that was basically Olive Garden. As frequent visitors to Key West (for a month at a time!!) we took the recommendation of the owners of our vacation rental to surprise them with a gift certificate at the end of our stay. It happened that Tuesday is the day they close and we are leaving Wednesday. I sent a message to owner, who had been there working on day off, but caught our message and drove back into town to take care of us. Had dinner here last weekend while we were in Key West. We'd visited their old location a few years ago, this was our first time in the new location. I LOVE their new location. The building is beautiful, the decor is lovely, and the tables aren't on top of each other. I got their fresh catch, which was Mahi. The fish was cooked well but a bit bland. I can't remember exactly what they served it over (the online menu doesn't appear to be the same), I believe it was a mango salsa of some sort. That was really quite good. My husband got the snapper and asked that it be over the same salsa that mine was, he liked it. Portions were quite good. Have been going to Seven Fish since it opened 20 years ago. It was always one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, we will not be going again. The drinks were served in cheap glassware and the pour on a $16 liquor ordered on the rocks was abysmal. The attention to detail on the food coming out of the kitchen was lacking. One entree was over sauced and another had shrimp so small any other restaurant would have been embarrassed to serve them and if there were chopped clams in the sauce they were invisible to the naked eye. You know those meals that you never want to end? That's how I felt at Seven Fish. We made the requisite reservations a couple days in advance for Friday night. The place is small and was full the entire time we were there, so I wouldn't bet on walking in. We were immediately seated at a small table within arms reach of those around us. Our friendly waitress was quick to take our wine order and give us a list of specials so we could carry on with our evening. To start, we had the wild mushroom quesadilla which was undoubtedly my favorite bite the entire night. Inside the quesadilla was creamy, melted Brie and earthy mushrooms. It was sprinkled with scallions, creating such a perfect bite. Seriously, I am still dreaming of this simple creation today. For our main courses, we both went with specials that night - me for the tuna steak and my boyfriend for the curry snapper. I must say that while my tuna was cooked perfectly, the flavorful curry really took the cake, especially with the sticky rice below it. For dessert, we got key lime cheesecake. As key lime pie and cheesecake are arguably my two favorite sweet treats, this really hit the spot. It was a great "splurge" for our trip to Key West and you really feel among locals at this place. The homes all throughout "Old Town Historic District" in Key West are architecturally gorgeous (victorian, heritage style homes) and there is this one unassuming building that is Seven Fish. Just a small, white, boxy building on a residential corner that may have once been a home converted into a restaurant. It's not much to look at (on the outside), so on my first visit I was just hoping the food can "outshine" the kinda bland exterior... COME ON IN... Once inside it's decorated in a simple yet cute manner; clean, white walls with just a little bit of tropical trinkets on the walls... there is a cute, 4-seat bar but not great to sit at due to it's proximity to the entrance to the restaurant and since it's common for many people to wait for a table, it tends to crowd the entrance and bar counter. Something I found interesting was the lack of a ceiling... don't worry, there is a roof and it's air conditioned, but there is no dry wall directly above; you get the privilege of looking at the wood rafters/trusses that support the roof. The modern tables and chairs are decent enough (hard but comfortable) but I promise you'll take more notice of the tight quarters. The dining room is small and it's very clear that there are way more tables and chairs inside than someone would expect. I've never been a fan of tables that are really close to another table with strangers that you are sitting right on top of each other (forced to share conversation)... typically I ask for another table when restaurants offer this type of table but that is not an option here (especially of for parties of two).... Normally my UNSOLICITATED ADVICE would be to relocate to a larger location or rearrange the tables to accommodate a more comfortable atmosphere. AS OF DECEMBER 2014 I HEARD THEY ARE RELOCATIING (hope that rumor is true). THINGS START TO LOOK UP... Don't think everything was all bad (because of the "tight quarters"... everything else was spot on every single visit. Each of my visits, someone greets you joyously. And not that "fake" happy, they seem to be sincerely happy to have each and every guest. I don't know about other people but I'd have trouble keeping a smile if I had to service so many tables and know that it's going to be busy like this for hours because there are more people still waiting outside... My last visit was a Thursday night... my reservation was made Tuesday earlier that week and yet the earliest reservation I could get was for 9:30 pm... They must be doing something right considering it's a weeknight and the reservation are running late into the night. LET'S TALK FOOD... APPETIZERS The menu was simple but offered plenty of wonderful options.... not to mention a decent wine selection... One of my favorite appetizers I've had here was a few years ago when they offered a "sushi special"... SPICY TUNA ROLL (which was incredibly fresh and not terribly spicy which I think is a plus)... since then I've also tried a Grouper Roll which was equally memorable. I wish I could've had a taste of the CRAB CAKE with GINGER GARLIC SAUCE that my pop ordered on our last visit but he finished it by the time I thought to ask... "he says" it was really delicious... definitely on my radar for my next visit. The only appetizer that was somewhat of a let down was the 3 CHEESE CAESAR... but the main dishes more than make up for it.... MORE FOOD TALK.... MAIN COURSES With a name like "SEVEN FISH" you know fresh fish must a par for the course... that leads me into one of my favorite main courses here... YELLOWTAIL SNAPPER with THAI-CURRY CREAM SAUCE over sticky rice and vegetable... that sauce... fish cooked absolutely perfect every single time... that sauce... the portion was plenty big... and have I mentioned the sauce. It's obvious that ht Thai Curry Sauce over fish is my favorite dish that SEVEN FISH offers... but the SEA SCALLOPS with PEA PUREE and SPINACH is wonderful and so is the GNOCCHI with MELLOW BLUE CHEESE and SAUTÉED FISH DESSERTS... Dessert is great but lackluster compared to the appetizers and main dishes... but then again I'm not much of a sweets eater and I'd rather have an after-dinner cordial (and SEVEN FISH does not serve liquor)... LAST BITS... Lot's of potential to be a 5 star eatery but the lack of elbow room it looses it's romantic charm... although the ambiance is nice. Wow. Wow. Wow. This might be my new favorite dinner spot in Key West. We actually can't wait to come back. I ordered the special and it was incredible. I'm sure whatever they make "special" each night has a unique flair. Last night I had a gnocchi pasta with Mahi. The gnocchi had a thick creamy blue cheese sauce. I actually didn't really taste the blue cheese, but it was so tasty. My fiancé had the snapper with curry, which looks to be very popular based on either reviews. WE CLEANED THE WHOLE PLATE! I couldn't stop taking fork fulls of his. The sweetest touch came at the end. We told our waitress that we were engaged and she brought us complimentary key lime pie martinis. I must say I don't know where all these 4&5 star reviews came from Yelpers really failed me on this one! If I could separate I'd give their servers 4 stars and the food 2. But this review is mainly about the food since the service was great it's not their fault this kitchen is lacking.... A new chef or perhaps I've missed this place in its prime??? We started with the recommended sushi tuna roll from our server. And two glasses of wine. The roll itself had good flavor and fresh fish but the rice was mushy and small for the price. We were told it was a five piece roll, that's great however there were five thin pieces so really it's a three piece roll cut into five. Next we both ordered the signature snapper curry. Very disappointed in having what tasted like just steamed snapper and steamed veggies on over cooked rice with a very light curry sauce on it I couldn't taste the curry. Then our server told us it's a cream sauce with curry so basically it's a cream sauce. She brought us pepper flakes and the chutney to try to add flavor, I agree with another reviewer that chutney should not be eaten on anything. The vegetables and the fish again just steamed and had no flavor the veggies were a bit over for my liking I prefer them on the fresh side, at least roasted vegetables not just steamed since were not on a cruise ship. BTW several reviews refer to this as grilled snapper?? Maybe that's how they used to make it but I didn't see anything come out near me that was grilled. The best thing on the plate was the potato focaccia bread. But not even any extra sauce or butter to dip it into. We asked for oil that was great I would have eaten a loaf of that bread! Wine by the glass.... They have a nice selection however small glasses of wine, for the $10-$13 range I'd like a glass of wine please. And all wines come in the same small glasses not what I expect from a $50+ per person restaurant. Shame. This restaurant was very small as expected and we did talk to our neighbors however I didn't try their food so I won't post their comments here. It's a bit on the noisy side I'm not sure how they could fix that some people just need to learn to be courteous of others while in these quaint settings. It is very cute inside although crowded and there is only 1 bathroom shared by all but it was clean. This was the most expensive meal we've had since we have been here and unfortunately it was also our least favorite. They have very good servers ours actually took the tuna roll off the bill and was very pleasant and nice. However I wouldn't return for the food. read more

My reviews are starting to sound like a broken record but I'm sorry, YELP deserves all the credit for helping me find this place. Parking was an absolute nightmare. I think that bears repeating because it was absurd how hard it is to find parking in this area. After about 5 hours of looking for a spot (somewhat joking) we made our way in. Very romantic atmosphere when we entered, all dimly lit with candle light. My party of 6 knew we wanted fish and Yelp said this place had great fish. This place is more suited for a romantic dinner for two but they managed to seat all six of us without a fuss. Our waitress was spot on with her knowledge of the menu and we placed our order. I ordered the snapper and tried my best to take good pictures of the food but the lighting was so low it made it very difficult. Trust what the lunch crew posts in the pics section. I remember it being so dark I could hardly see what I was eating with the naked eye. It didn't matter because after the first bite my mouth exploded with flavor. It was incredible. It reminded me of funky place in Richmond that mimics this style of food preparation. Take a nice piece of fish and smother it in delicious veggies and an amazing sauce. I would have licked the plate clean but that would have been rude. Others in my dinner party thought the food didn't have flavor. Sigh. I wonder about them. I think they also believe we didn't land on the moon. Sometimes I want to take these bothers of mine to the side and tell them about the toaster. Did you know the settings on a toaster are for duration and not heating temperature? Boom goes the dynamite. My husband ordered Gnocchi w bleu cheese and mahi. It was delicious - if you like gnocchi you gotta get it! I had the Snapper in Thai coconut curry sauce - it was delicious, I wish it was a little more spicy but I know the dish isn't advertised as that. Just personal preference.
