We came here in a large group for New Year's Eve..... I'd never been, but $25 for cover, a cocktail, and a champagne toast seemed like a great deal compared to all of the other research we did. Parking is really convenient in the lot next door... free for the first 2 hours, we ended up paying $1 for the night out. Look for the "Cocktails" sign, hidden behind another bar and not actually on the street. The bouncers were friendly and joked around with us. The place was not at all pretentious, with a diverse variety of people. The dress code was a little too diverse too...... no one seemed to know what kind of attire worked here. I wore a party dress for New Year's Eve and felt a little overdressed with the more casual clothes around me. We collected our free, (well, $25) drinks, and chose Long Islands. I liked the way we could choose ANY drink, and the Long Island was tasty and nicely liquored up. I liked the dark, intimate atmosphere and laid-back vibe. I'd definitely love a romantic date here on one of the live jazz nights or just an after-dinner cocktail. Bar staff was nice, although I was a little disappointed that they forgot most of our champagne for the toast. I saw one waitress with a tray, handing it out, and they seemed to forget the rest of the bar... we had to ask a few times after midnight, and the bartender finally hooked us all up. It's their first time doing this NYE thing, so I'll forgive them. Also, as much as it IS important to stay informed of the news, local news coverage of the Hollywood arsonist spree, blaring on a screen above the bar, is a little bit of a buzzkill for an NYE party. This is one of my absolute favorite bars to go to!! It seems like every time I'm in Culver City they are open, and I love that! My favorite parts of Seventy7 are the ambiance, service and the music. Specially, on Friday night's the music is great! It's a mix of old school hip hop and newer music which creates a fun, youthful, old school atmosphere. I came here for a friend's birthday party where she reserved some seating for us. The location is unique, being between multiple establishments and a parking garage in an alleyway, which made finding the place just a bit difficult. The venue itself is a little "speakeasy" meets "jazz club:" dark leather seating, low lighting and loud music. We had about 20 people in our party, which took up about 1/4 of the whole place. Seating gets very tight on weekend nights, so come early unless you don't mind standing around. There's usually a DJ that spins random songs, not the greatest, but at a club with no cover, you can't expect more. I love their drink menu and would love to have drank more, but most of their cocktails range around $14. One of the mules involved a copper cup and my handing over my drivers license in order to drink out of it... because apparently people have been stealing the cups. Look, I'd rather get a drink in a clear glass and NOT give my license away... Other than that, the crowd was kind of off kilter that night. Some weirdo druggie tried to get stuff out of our friends' purses but luckily I caught him and immediately told the bouncer. He scared the daylights out of him but did not kick him out, which I thought was very odd. If I come back, it will be on a weekday night so I can hear myself talk to my friends. read more

Seventy7 Lounge is pretty fun! It's a tucked away "hidden" bar (see also speakeasy bar) with a lively atmosphere inside, complete with good music, a packed dance floor, and a very hearty bearded bartender who will make sure you're very liquored up if you so desire. The size is small, and they share a bathroom with a restaurant that typically closes up before the bar opens up. Nothing else really to say about this bar except it's a good time if you want a small, intimate feeling with some good friends (or you know the bartender) - drop by! It was a Wednesday night and two of my girlfriends and I decided to try out the new spot in Culver. I walked through the alley behind Rocco's and found an open door behind a bright neon "cocktails" sign. There was no bouncer at the door, no password was asked. I walked in to an extremely dimly lit bar that was almost totally barren except for two much older men sitting at the bar. The server introduced herself to me and shook my hand. Oooookay. I mean, that's nice and all, but a little odd. I got a table and ordered a "jack and the beanstalk" while waiting for my friends. The drink was tasty and decently strong. It had chunks of muddled watermelon in it which was a first for me. Unfortunately they kept getting stuck in the straw...one of those oversized boba straws would be useful if it wouldn't result in me sucking down my drink in two sips. My friends ordered their drinks (Peter Piper: she commented it was way too pickley, and East LA Cafe: decent). One of my friends ordered the arugula and goat cheese salad. A server came out and said that they were out of arugula and would have to make the salad with romaine instead. There was also some confusion about how only one of us ordered food and they brought out three plates for us to share...a salad. When we finally asked for our checks (and had them split up), mine was twice what it was supposed to be. I brought this to the attention of our server and she went to correct it. It took an abysmally long time to get this straightened out. There was a long discussion at the bar, and lots of running back and forth between the bar and the register. As it turns out, she ran someone else's tab on my credit card. They voided the charges but I really didn't expect this to be such a debacle. This place has a LOT of potential. I'd like to go back, maybe on a weekend, and see what it's like when it's in full swing. The drinks are creative and the place has cool decor...but the ambiance is lacking. Maybe because it was so empty? Only time will tell. read more

I was around the corner at a restaurant having late night Happy Hour with friends. We were walking back to our car in the parking garage when I heard the Sweet Strains of Jazz, as we got closer, I realized it was Live, we followed the sound and there was an amazing Jazz Band with Jacques Lesure. They had brought in a 1950's Hammond B# and to me there is no sweeter keyboard sound. It was classic straight ahead jazz. Straight, No Chaser! The atmosphere was Dark, Intimate and Retro. Grown Up and Sexy.... The cocktails were well crafted and the shrimp appetizer was delish. We made new friends who were celebrating a Birthday and the Waitress was so sweet and brought out a dessert and we all sang Happy Birthday. It was so cool, because it was such an unexpected find! The front door guy Ian, is friendly and welcomes you into the establishment. It's hard to get a drink b/c of the crowds and how small the joint is however, once you do, you ease into the evening. The bar is located in an alley, behind Bank of America and a parking garage. The people-watching is pretty good, but the drinks are even better. This place focuses on the "mixology" style of making drinks, but it's been mostly hit or miss for me in the past. This time, I ordered the forbidden fruit. It is quite possibly one of the best drinks I've ever had. It came with whisky, blackberry, mint, lemon, and something fizzy (soda water, probably). Trying to find this place can make you feel a little uneasy. It's in a tiny alleyway next to the parking lot. But I love this place! I haven't been here on the weekend so I haven't dealt with the crowd. They have plenty of tables you can lounge at or you can hang out at the bar. The drinks a really delicious. The only downside is that it does take them longer than usual to serve you your drinks. We ordered 3 drinks and it took between 5-10 minutes to get our drinks. If you want to check it out for the first time, you should go on a Tuesday! Every Tuesday, they have this live jazz group. The music is great! We walked in on a Sunday afternoon, dressed casually (jeans and a t-shirt). We noticed the sign on the door that said "DRESS CODE STRICTLY ENFORCED." At first we were like WTF? Still, we asked the manager if we were ok. The manager and owner were very nice. The explained that on weekends and most weekenights they will be enforcing a dress code similar to a business casual vibe. I liked it. I don't understand why people are giving bad yelp reviews because of the dress code. It's a nice change of pace. Furthermore, the drinks were delicious and the staff was very friendly. Went to this bar after dinner on Friday night as I wanted to check out yet another "speakeasy" type place (ring the she's so basic chime now because, I know I know I know... they're fun, okay?). We walked up to the entrance in the alley and while it's small and dark, it doesn't feel like much of a speakeasy at all since it's super loud (think house party DJ; Too loud but you're willing to deal because you just came to drink and dance). We found a place to sit very quickly which was surprising because we didn't get there until like 11pm on a Friday. I guess it was because most people were dancing (my point from above), so it was nice to have a spot to chill out for a little before getting up to dance. The drinks are good, nothing really special. The service was great, we had a server instead of going up to the crowded bar which was a huge plus. She was kind and attentive. The music was okayyy. At first, there was a good mix of lighthearted and fun dance songs and then it got very trap music, heavy rap, hard bass-y which seemed to work out for those grinding on the dance floor couples but not so much the kind of stuff you dance with your friends to. After several of these types of songs back to back, I tipped the DJ $20 and asked him to mix it up a bit and he really didn't at all, I think he just kept with his original music plan which sucked but I guess I get it. The grinders were loving it lol. All in all a cool place to grab a drink and bust a move but it wasn't a spectacular "speakeasy" experience. read more

Live music in the heart of downtown Culver. No cover, no drink minimum. So much yes. Came here on a Sunday night for their Funk night and it was a great time. They played a range of tunes: MJ, Whitney, Rick James, some 80's pop, and even some Maroon 5. The band was on point, people were drinking and few were dancing to the tunes. There is some sitting room accessible if you reserve a table or get in early (around 9), but a majority of the people were standing. They also had an open mic after the band finished playing their set. Only in LA would people come to a bar with their own instruments to play for a crowd. Cocktail menu has a pretty good selection with almost any spirit you can think of, each $15. I stuck with their Smoke and Mirrors, which is a mezcal/lime juice blend that I enjoyed. Sweet from the juice, but not overly sweet from additions. Honestly can't go wrong with Mezcal in anything. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. We got in at 9 and didn't leave until the band started packing up at 1:30...and I'd do it again. read more

I went here last night with my boyfriend. We had a good dinner and wanted to have a cocktail. This is a very small bar in the alley. It has a good vibe but the bartender was the worst ever! I ordered a Moscow mule and she asked what kind of vodka I wanted only to tell me that they carry none of the popular ones like kettle one, Belvedere, Grey Goose or Tito's. They only carry craft vodkas. Then when she gave me the drink she told me to to stir it up! Lol, ok. It was an awful drink to say the least. We sat at the end of the bar where there was a big screen TV. The basketball game was on and I was watching the game. The bartender comes up and turn the TV off! When I asked her why did she do that, she said, "We're not a sports bar." At that point we were both done. We left and um we won't be back. read more

Every Seventy7 Lounge team member went above and beyond, making it a night we'll never forget! I think this place is still somewhat of a hidden gem and I love bringing people who've never been before. Came here for a friend's birthday and a half of the booth/seated area was reserved for a party. It wasn't that the party was large, it's just that the place is small. Throughout the night it does get a bit crowded to the point where you may need to dance/shimmy your way to the bar. Bartenders are pretty attentive and they sell food throughout the night if you get hungry. DJ was a bit hit and miss throughout the night. He seemed to play a lot of J. Lo, Kanye, and JAy-Z. She will take your order but since you are a female she won't make you the drink she'll go make a few of the boys' drinks and then she comes by! Absolutely loved loved loved the live music last night! We were meeting up with some friends who told us they were at Rocco's. We walked through the bar and didn't see them. Puzzled we walked towards the bathroom and then all of a sudden our friend popped his head out of this random almost hidden door. "In here guys!" I walked through the door and it was like I was transported back in time! Loved the whole feel and decor of this place. I felt like I was in a hidden speakeasy back in the day.
