This place is pretty underrated. There are lots of seats and perfect for parties of all kind. They have a restaurant on the first floor and the shabu shabu portion is on the second. You can get up and get your own appetizers sauces and also selection of vegetables and seafood. The meat is super tender and I like that they are very thin and makes it easy to eat. I would recommend getting number three. Everything is very clean and you get your own pot of soup. It was pretty empty on a Saturday night but this place is really good! It looks like the bottom floor is a sit down order Korean food but the top floor is where the AYCE hotpot is. Plenty of space which is nice because a lot of other spots are cramped. Service was also good and checked in with our table multiple times to get more meats and take our empty plates. Came here for Father's Day for dinner. We've been here for the past 10 years or so, but this latest visit seemed to be different. All staff seemed new, so not sure if it's a change of ownership? As it's getting hot in Texas, you would think for a hot pot place, they would need to turn on the AC more to circulate the cooler air. Not here. I even asked the waitress if AC was down, and she said it's normal. She then pointed one of their many fans towards the back of me instead. Overall, the food is just ok as I thought they used to have more selections? The service was lacking enthusiasm as all of them are just there to do their work, and nothing more. We've asked for a small strainer, but the waitress didn't come back with it until end of my dinner. It was a good thing I've asked another waitress earlier. For meat, you do get to order them in advance, but few times, it would be like 15 min later. That may not seem long, but when everyone is waiting for more meat, and it's dinner time? After that, we've learned to order them before our plates are done. The whole ambiance just feels old and the place just seemed rundown. My girlfriend and come here often and always love it. While ambiance is pretty run down, it gives homey feeling I like since I have been coming here for over 6 years. The meat comes out at a decent speed and there is assortment of toppings to get at the bar. I came here ready to love this place. The idea of being able to customize my meal by picking all of the individual components and controlling the way it's cooked seemed perfect. I'm always happy to choose my own adventure! During lunch the meat selections are limited to only 4 types, so we ordered brisket, beef round and chicken breast (skipping the pork belly). However, all of the items in the self service area are still available. After loading up my silver plate with vegetables, noodles and seafood I was even more hopeful that this would be among the best meals I had ever had. But sometime between scorching my tongue on soup that was a couple degrees shy of liquid hot magma (my own fault) and biting into crawfish that was well past it's prime, I quickly realized that this wasn't the blissful experience I had anticipated. Things continued to go downhill when my spicy miso soup devolved from a mostly flavorless, yet passable, broth to a sour, dishwater-like sludge. I think the bad crawfish and poorly chosen soup base were to blame for that since everyone else at my table slurped down their soup with no complaints. Now I don't want to ignore the positive aspects of the experience because it certainly wasn't negative all-around. The dumplings and fish balls were pretty tasty. Also, the vegetable selection was abundant and everything seemed fresh. I really enjoyed trying all the different sauces as well. The dissatisfaction other reviewers have reported regarding the amount of meat they were served was not an issue for us at all. We got 6 trays of meat in total that ended up being sufficient for my family of 6. For dessert they have chocolate and vanilla ice cream, which is a nice way to help soothe those mouth burns! Oftentimes at an AYCE establishment it's difficult not to overindulge, even when the food isn't extraordinary. This was not such an occasion. I love the variety of meat that you can get. They were fresh, tender and sliced into thin pieces. They were easy to cook through I alsk love all the sauces that they have at the end of the table. In addition, the vegetable, mushroom and seafood are all delectable and fresh. One thing I want to mention is the attentive service the staff offered. The guy there offered me a brand new hair tie to tie my long hair back. It did help me to keep my hair away from my face and I could eat in peace. We tried the upstairs hot pot and had a great experience! There's a bar with variety of options to add to your hot pot or make a sauce, as well as soft serve ice cream. You order the meats and they bring them to your table raw. I really enjoyed having access to the bar of different vegetable, noodle, dumpling, and sauce options as this was probably the most extensive I've seen at a hot pot and Korean BBQ restaurant. The meat options were excellent and they definitely bring you a good portion of food. The meat is all thinly sliced, so it cooks quickly. We ordered several beef and pork options, plus a couple lamb options. I'm not a huge fan of lamb, but honestly this was pretty good! There were a lot of soup base options to choose from, but we all chose the Chinese Hot Pot option (#6). While the broth was definitely spicy as advertised, it lacked the flavor I was hoping for. For the meats, the pork belly and beef brisket were my top choices. I also added in some udon and ramen noodles, bok choy, bean sprouts, and a few dumplings. It was a fun and great experience for me to choose the vegetables that I desired in my hot pot. Customer service was great! My guest did not speak loud enough so she explained the meat choices and how the food was to go in the pot. My guest piped up and insisted that she be the one to show me how to regulate the temperature for the Hot Pot. The floor, tables, plates, silverware and buffet area were clean and well maintained. But man, even when you're not near the steaming pots, there just doesn't seem to be any air moving. The whole restaurant feels outdated and a bit neglected... also, dining guests shouldn't be able to see straight into the urinal from the dining area. Lunch prices are good! Drink prices are typical, if not just slightly high. The variety of options on the buffet is pretty good! There is room for improvement in terms of promptly refilling empty dishes, particularly for items like crab and shrimp. Nonetheless, I found the overall freshness of the food to be satisfactory and did not encounter any significant concerns. While I wasn't particularly impressed with the soup broth, it was fine. I would like for the Chinese broth to have more salt and Szechuan peppercorn. There is a hand washing station for guests, but the particleboard base is crumbling and the whole thing looks like it's about to fall over, be careful! I'd go back, but not really soon. Came here for a family birthday and it's super spacious with plenty of private rooms for large groups. Customer service was great and the waitress was attentive to us. She even thanked us for being great customers. For the price you have a lot of options for veggies, seafood and meats. The sauce bar was really good. Go with the house soup and dipping sauce. My only con would be the desserts. The diy scoop ice cream always creeps me out at buffets and didn't look too fresh. Good, flavorful broth is the foundation of a good hot pot experience and Shabro ain't it. I do like the concept of AYCE hot pot with individualized hot pots though. I think I've just been spoiled by similar but better AYCE shabu shabu/hot pot restaurants in Boston that have a better, higher quality selection at a lower price. Frozen meats are something you have to order through your server and you're limited to 3 selections per order. They have a button you can press to grab your server's attention when you're ready to put in another order. As for the self-service bar of vegetables, noodles, frozen food and seafood... their selection is pretty "meh" as well. Not a good variety. Nothing really stood out except for bad fish balls. I had some fish balls that tasted old - either they were kept in the freezer for too long or sitting out in the AYCE bar for too long. Either way, it was utterly disgusting and I had to spit it out. It would be better if Shabro had fish tofu and jalapeno fish cakes. Everything was just so mediocre. They also automatically add 15% gratuity to your bill even if you only have a party of two which is kind of annoying. I was saddened when the newer Shabro in Frisco closed due to the Pandemic, but I'm glad that the one in Carrollton is still open! I came here with a group of friends to hide from the Texas Winter storm. This Shabro is unique in that it's 2 stories and there are sinks on each floor so you can quickly wash your hands if you're a messy hot pot eater. The dinner price is a bit steep for all-you-can-eat at $28.99 (as of December 2022), but you do get a good variety of soup base and meat choices. If you're a fan of spicy, you can request any of the soup bases as spicy. I went with the original house soup base, which was on the saltier/savory side. One of my friends had the miso soup base, which tasted super watered down and bland. We primarily ordered lamb, beef brisket, short rib, beef round chuck, and fish. Honestly, the lamb and short rib were the best proteins to order. Even though it's considered all-you-can-eat, you do occasionally have to hunt down the waitresses to get refills on the meats. It's cool that the veggie/seafood bar is included with the price and so are the dipping sauces. Make sure to take advantage of trying all the different types of fish and rice cakes. This Shabro also includes complimentary ice cream for dessert. The ice cream flavors are vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. I tried the strawberry ice cream and it tasted SUPER artificial and stale. If you're craving dessert after hot pot, then I'd highly recommend checking out one of the local boba shops to satisfy your craving. This place is awesome. I've been to one Shaburo before in palisades park, NJ and this was similar just a lot less crowded and actually bigger which makes the place look like it isn't busy at all. First you start with the broth which they have 5 different kinds, can't remember all of them but I chose the Miso while my wife chose the original house shaburo broth. They weren't as Flavorful but it did the job. Once you go there, they have a buffet style counters to choose fresh veggies like cabbage, onion, mushroom, tofu and they also had pork/chicken dumplings and noodles like ramen and rice noodle. Service was fair and they also have a ringer at your table so if you need a refill or another drink they'll be at your table in no time. The waitresses were nice and smiled every time they came to our table. They were pleasant. My wife loves coming here as it reminds her of Japan's shabu shabu. Kids 3 and under eat free and they charge you 15% unless you're with a group of 6 or more then they charge 18% which didn't actually bother me because I always tip at least 15%..also they have an ice cream station which is great for the kids or just a desert. Shabro offers 9 (I'm pretty sure) varieties of meat that they bring three at a time, however during lunch time they only offer 5 (which is honestly fine by me I don't eat beef and all the good options were in the 5 that they offer). The Hotpots are all personal (so each person can pick and choose what they want in their own broths), and you can choose from a variety for 4 to 5 broths as to which one you want. Here is the best part, anything that you want (besides the meat) is at a buffet area. They have a VARIETY of vegetables (different types of mushrooms, leafy greens, lotus roots, bean sprouts, all the soup essentials), seafoods (crab, mussels, clams, fishballs, squid, octopus), noodles/dumplings (ramen, rice noodles, fresh noodles, dumpling wrappers, chicken/pork dumplings), tofus, boiled and raw eggs, and flavored rice balls (for the congee at the end). Then there is another buffet area for the sauces. I recommend the house special and spicy p...(I cant remember the name). Lastly for dessert they have a good six or seven ice cream flavors to choose from (they have GREEN TEA! YAY!) The service here was wonderful, there was never a time where we thought the waiter neglected us. Whenever they saw that we were halfway done with our meats, they would immediately ask if we wanted more. They also do a wonderful job explaining how the process works if you are new there.
