It's Corona so not much to select from for AYCE shabu... it was okay. It costs around $55 per person with a drink and tip included. Service was okay, we had to wave down the servers pretty frequently. There are two or three restaurants in one. We started off on the Korean side and finally found our way to the shabu side. Decent restaurant ambiance. Food was decent but nothing spectacular I would return back for...

Had a craving for shabu shabu and found this place on Yelp. It does have another name on the building, Taiyo's, so we were confused at first. Really nice inside and lots of options at their bar, like fried rice, shrimp tempura and eggrolls, in addition to the vegetables. Servers were very friendly and attentive.

Been here twice and won't be returning. All you can eat sushi is mediocre at best. Come here if you strictly like to eat sushi rolls. Why do they keep searing the sushi? We would get the same dish back to back and one would be seared and one would be raw. I didn't come here to eat BBQ. I want the sushi raw, or aleast keep it consistent. The shabu dipping sauces are all way too sweet. The meats are okay and the side dishes/ salad bar are all overcooked or lack flavor. The shabu soup base was flavorless + the dipping sauces are terrible. The all you can eat "fill out yourself" paper menu for sushi clearly says mussells but it doesnt say "limited 1 person". They told us it's only 1 per person when we ordered a third for a table of 2 people. There are a lot of items that are not on the AYCE menu like takoyaki so you spend more money on top of the 30$. We waited for 10 min and had to ask and then they told us the limited item rule even though it doesn't say on the paper menu. The rooms inside looks dirty. There was 2 to 3 nats flying around the food and tables the entire time we were eating. The walls and decor gave a dingy feeling where everything seemed damp and sticky. You can tell a lot about a restaurant when there is mandatory gratuity

I forgot what the name of our server was but he was the only one wearing a white shirt while everyone else wore black. He was so attentive and so nice. He sat us down, got out menus and we got the hot pot option. Within minutes our server had everything set and ready to go. This place has a buffet bar for the hot pot items like lots of veggies, a sauce bar, 3 noodle options & other proteins like calm, imitation crab, shrimp & etc. They also had a few hot bar items like rice, fried rice, noodles, fried shrimp & etc The meat options were ribeye, brisket, beef belly & pork belly. We tried everything but the pork and I got the miso broth while my husband got the regular broth. Everything was really good. It's an extra $10 to add AYCE sushi - which we do want to try next time Tons of parking in this plaza!

My husband and I came for hot pot and decided to get the sushi and hot pot option. We were expecting the hot pot to be the star of the show and the sushi to be mid at best, but wow were we wrong. Our usual local sushi spot changed its menu and its quality went way down so we were on the hunt for a new spot and let me tell you, THIS IS IT. WOW. Our second time back and we ditched the hot pot and opted to just get sushi. The fish is incredible. High quality, cut well, prepared well and the service is dynamite. I would not have expected the sushi to be so good here. Come try it out- you won't be disappointed!

Honestly so good, always a go to especially if we're having separate cravings. I'll usually do Sushi and my girlfriend does the shabu or vice versa. Very tasty food and a wide variety of choices. Amazing customer service very efficient, helpful, along with telling us everything we need to know. The venue is stunning especially if you come early enough for a garden seat and the music is always a vibe if you love Japanese City Pop! (I swear we came late at night and they played the Sword Art Online intro) Great spot for friends or just a quick date! Owner is a really cool guy too

I walked into Shabu Garden with high expectations based on the reviews and their Instagram page. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to the hype. The biggest issue with this restaurant is that they are seriously understaffed. I visited on a Saturday afternoon around 4:15 PM. I was told there would be a 10-15 minute wait, which turned into nearly 20. Not a big deal. However, once we were seated, it took another 10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order, ask about soup bases, or even check if we had been there before. That was my first red flag. The staff wasn't slacking off; they were clearly overwhelmed, running around trying to keep up with seated guests while also cleaning tables. We opted for the hot pot (or "shabu," as they call it). After ordering our soup bases, our server suggested we grab items from the buffet-style setup. I've been to several hot pot and KBBQ spots over the years, and I'd rank this setup in the bottom 50%. They offered some hot items like rice, egg rolls, and fried shrimp, as well as cold items like seafood, tofu, and ramen. While some things were decent, others were just bad. The white rice, in particular, was terrible. This was surprising, given that they also serve sushi. It was somehow both sticky and dry at the same time. I wish they had left it in a rice cooker for guests to scoop themselves rather than placing it in a container. One thing I did enjoy was their sauce selection. It was fantastic. They had peanut sauce, which I love. I do wish they had kimchi, but since this is a Japanese hot pot spot, I understand why they didn't. Another issue was the self-serve soda station. They were out of clean cups, and it took nearly 15 minutes for them to bring more. By the time I got back to my table, the soup had arrived, but we hadn't had a chance to order meat yet, so we just stared at our boiling vegetables for another 5-10 minutes. When the meat finally arrived, it was excellent. They only offer four meat options, but they're solid choices, so I have no complaints there. Combined with the sauces, everything tasted great. The original broth, in particular, was phenomenal. One of the best I've ever had. But despite that, I don't see myself coming back. The lighting in the restaurant was horrible, very dim, which made it difficult to see if the meat was cooked properly. On top of that, the tables were way too small for hot pot. The burner and pot took up almost half the table space, leaving us feeling squished. It was uncomfortable trying to cook, eat, and manage everything in such a cramped setup. The final straw, and the reason I'm actually writing this review, was the automatic tip. A $19.19 gratuity was added to my $158 bill for four adults, with no signage indicating this policy. I understand tipping, and I recognize that the servers were working hard, but automatically adding a tip, especially at a place where we cooked our own food and retrieved our own items from the buffet, is frustrating. Overall, the food had its highlights, but the understaffing, slow service, poor lighting, cramped tables, and unexpected gratuity make it hard for me to recommend this place or return myself.

Very cute little spot! Definitely worth it! I decently priced! The service was even better because it was our first time and the guy working helped explain everything for us. Also, helped me make my birthday feel even more special with the yummy fried matcha ice cream and song.

I ordered spicy sukiyaki soup base, with quail eggs and brisket. Each order of soup comes with complementary rice and vegetable assortment + udon noodles. At first, I thought the amount of food you get for $30 was not a lot compared to AYCE Hot Pot options BUT realized halfway through that everything appeared deceptively small and they actually gave enough where I could not finish everything. I do think the added $4 for a scoop of gochujang-looking paste was a bit egregious to make my broth spicy though. The brisket was also on the tougher side compared to KBBQ, possibly due to thicker cuts of meat. Overall, I liked the Mokkoji experience and pricing was fairly reasonable. I understand why they have multiple locations and would definitely be happy to come back to fulfill my shabu shabu fix!

I opted for sukiyaki, which was really flavorful and had that perfect balance of salty sweetness. I ordered the marinated brisket. The regular size is definitely enough, come here on an empty stomach. I split some drunken chicken wings with my table, which were the star of the show. So crispy, and the sweet marinade with the fried garlic was to die for. We drizzled the remaining marinade in the pan over our rice/meat once we were done digging into the wings. Each dish comes with ponzu sauce and sesame sauce, I love. I ended up spilling some on my light pink clothes, which I was devastated about. Definitely dress accordingly if you come here. The service was okay, they were good about clearing out our dishes once we had finished putting in our veggies/meat but the broth ran low a few times and the fire ran out for my friends' burner ovens so this had to be raised twice to the servers. Overall ambiance is a little worn down, I noted that the AC system wires were out and paint was peeling on the table. The exterior also is shuttered off, giving it a mildly unfriendly look. The price is reasonable and not too extravagant for shabu shabu, but I would definitely keep that in mind if you're someone who prefers a more elevated experience. I also noted that they'll be opening a new location in North San Jose/Milpitas soon, so I'm excited for them to continue expanding near my hometown.

There were a lot of neat topping options that you can add to your bowl like a little fortune bag which I assume is made from tofu skin and a fish paste. I also thought the pricing was really good compared to other places. My bowl was around 1.4 lbs and it was $21. After you're done eating you go to pay at the register which is also the one you go to to weigh your bowl before you sit down. There was another customer waiting to weigh his bowl while we were waiting to pay so the line situation was a little awkward. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming, but he truly stands out every single time. Second, the OPTIONS. The spread here is amazing. From sauces to fresh vegetables, noodles, seafood, fruit, and dessert, there is something for everyone. And can we talk about the watermelon? For some reason, it is always perfectly sweet. I literally had to walk up to him and tell him I wanted to order. The entire time I was ordering he just stared at me with zero facial expression or basic customer service skills. No thank you, no appreciation, absolutely nothing. He handed me my food the same way ...silent and rude ... and mind you, I still left a tip. To make it worse, they didn't include any condiments. When I asked for a small container for chili oil to take home, he rolled his eyes before going to the back to grab one. Then when I politely asked for a few more containers for the other sauces, he immediately said, "No, we don't have any." At this point it feels like customers are an inconvenience to them. I understand people have bad days, but this level of attitude and lack of basic respect is unacceptable, especially for longtime paying customers. Sadly, after years of supporting this place, I don't think I'll be returning.

The value is definitely the main highlight, pricing is fair for AYCE and you get a decent variety of meats, veggies, and sides. For a casual hot pot night, it's hard to complain on cost alone.
