The food always seems to be COATED in butter... no matter what I get - omelet, sandwich, skillet, etc. I feel like a grease ball when I leave. The vibe is fun with writing all over the walls. We were able to squeeze into the bar area as a table was +45 minute wait. Their menu has the original diner food and then they have some amazing new menu items that are just AMAZING! One of those wild dishes is called "Why the French Hate Us" it's a large croissant with scrambled eggs topped with gravy and a side of hash browns. And yes, it tastes just as good as it sounds. I was meeting a friend who was in town and we stopped by the Shack for breakfast like old times! The wait can be a bit long, but we were seated without delay on a Saturday morning around 9am. My friend and her fiancé got the "build your own" breakfast option and the sweet avo-rito burrito. He was pleasantly surprised by the large amount of food in the "Do It Yourself Meg Ryan" and ended up taking some of the pancake home. I always get the "smoke 'em if you got 'em" skillet, which never disappoints! My eggs were perfectly over easy, and I added some avocado ranch to my hash which added some nice creaminess. One thing that I really appreciate about the Shack is that they have a wide variety of options and are very accommodating if you have dietary restrictions. Cheers to the dude who I met up with at the Detroit airport who said I needed to have breakfast here. As my week in Saint Louis comes to a close, it happened on my last morning on the way to the airport. When I arrived on a weekday at 8:20 am, the place was half-full. By 9:00 am, every table was filled. They looked like work meetings and meet-ups. I had an omelet with hash browns and a muffin. Huge portion, well stuffed, served hot. So I came and looked at the menu and once I saw Make a GROWN MAN cry on the menu you know I had to get it and it definitely made me cry from how delicious that first bite was. It's a burrito stuffed with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs & onions served on a bed of hash browns & topped with their house made queso cheese and salsa fresca. First timers here. Took a long drive from Illinois to visit something new. I will say that you should check in online before going to avoid a long wait. But once in, you're greeted with a good vibe and good atmosphere. They have decor on the walls that has personalized writing from all the past patrons. We arrived for brunch on Christmas eve to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I have been to another location before, and all I can say is that with their popularity, I'm thankful for their online waitlist. Make sure to get on it! When I logged on, they were showing a 30-40 minute wait, so I added us to the waitlist, and we drove the 30 minutes there. We were seated within 10 minutes, so the waitlist is pretty accurate. Our server was friendly and helpful. There were 4 of us in our party, and after making our selections, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered Junk in the Trunk, which is a slinger -- and so good! My husband ordered Why the French Hate Us. He enjoyed his as well but did state that the sausage links were slightly overcooked - not a big deal. When being sat, I asked the worker seating us if we could have a table or a booth with padding, because my mom has a bad back, the booth he was seating us at was just wood. The worker threw his rag down at the table and said, "yeah, you're going to have to wait for me to clean one". I said of course that isn't a problem. There was no line behind us. He proceeds to huff and clean off one of several padded open booths. We sit down and he huffs audibly once again at us and walks away. Horrible first impression, for sure. Food was okay. When we were leaving my mom said to me, maybe I should remind him that people who ask for small favors aren't just being difficult. So she walks up to him while he is fixing the wall at the entrance and tells him, "my daughter was not trying to make your job hard, I have bone cancer in my back, and she noticed the open seating". He turns and huffs.... again and said, "yeah okay, thanks for that". This worker seems to be in a management role due to him seating customers, cleaning tables, and fixing the entrance way and helping other staff. Of course he did not wear a name tag.
