First timers here. Took a long drive from Illinois to visit something new. I will say that you should check in online before going to avoid a long wait. But once in, you're greeted with a good vibe and good atmosphere. They have decor on the walls that has personalized writing from all the past patrons. We stopped here for breakfast. We were at the hospital across the street. The youngest was with us so you know drinks were involved. She had 2 mimosas and I had the Shack-offee. We sat at the bar because it was getting a little crowded. While my daughter is flirting with the guy that came in we decided maybe we should get our food to go so that we weren't gone too long. The waitress/bartender was super nice changed our order to go and poured that second mimosa that my daughter chugged. We got back to the hospital and the food was still nice and warm. We checked in online and by the time we arrived we were ready to be seated. I got the sweet avo-rito burrito and my boyfriend got the starchy cluck. The Shack offers breakfast and lunch options. They have an extensive menu. They have a quirky take on classic breakfast. Their most popular dish is "Make a grown man cry". We had their 2nd most popular dish "Why the French hate us" which was a toasted croissant with 2 sausages, scrambled eggs covered in gravy and cheddar cheese. It comes with a side of hash browns. I swapped my hash browns for fruit. The dish was excellent and did live up to hype! We also had the Corned beef & hash skillet. Both the dishes were very good. Our server was extremely polite and patiently went over the menu with us. Their service was prompt. This is place is good for family and large groups. The Shack is always just pretty average to me. There is usually a wait and it doesn't move very efficiently. The food always seems to be COATED in butter... no matter what I get - omelet, sandwich, skillet, etc. I feel like a grease ball when I leave. The vibe is fun with writing all over the walls. As my week in Saint Louis comes to a close, it happened on my last morning on the way to the airport. When I arrived on a weekday at 8:20 am, the place was half-full. By 9:00 am, every table was filled. They looked like work meetings and meet-ups. I had an omelet with hash browns and a muffin. Huge portion, well stuffed, served hot. I appreciate that coffee is served in a carafe so that I could refill my own cup when I wanted. It's an interesting eclectic restaurant and I can definitely see why it gets so busy. We were able to squeeze into the bar area as a table was +45 minute wait. Their menu has the original diner food and then they have some amazing new menu items that are just AMAZING! My friend and her fiancé got the "build your own" breakfast option and the sweet avo-rito burrito. He was pleasantly surprised by the large amount of food in the "Do It Yourself Meg Ryan" and ended up taking some of the pancake home. I always get the "smoke 'em if you got 'em" skillet, which never disappoints! My eggs were perfectly over easy, and I added some avocado ranch to my hash which added some nice creaminess. One thing that I really appreciate about the Shack is that they have a wide variety of options and are very accommodating if you have dietary restrictions. So I came and looked at the menu and once I saw Make a GROWN MAN cry on the menu you know I had to get it and it definitely made me cry from how delicious that first bite was. We arrived for brunch on Christmas eve to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I have been to another location before, and all I can say is that with their popularity, I'm thankful for their online waitlist. Make sure to get on it! When I logged on, they were showing a 30-40 minute wait, so I added us to the waitlist, and we drove the 30 minutes there. We were seated within 10 minutes, so the waitlist is pretty accurate. Our server was friendly and helpful. There were 4 of us in our party, and after making our selections, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered Junk in the Trunk, which is a slinger -- and so good! My husband ordered Why the French Hate Us. He enjoyed his as well but did state that the sausage links were slightly overcooked - not a big deal.
