The best Indian spot in town. Their chicken tikka marsala is amazing and their garlic naan is 10/10.

The food was salty, and the rice was not hot, and in the low quantity on the food,, I would not recommend

Very good curb appeal. However the entrance is confusing. There is a gated patio with an entrance ...not the main entrance. Small potatoes I know but it stood out. Service was great. It is a Thursday night - drizzling (football is on) and probably why it is so slow. But everyone was very friendly and accommodating and I can't take that away from them. Food: I ordered the lamb vindaloo but asked for phal spice...not delivered they must have thought I was joking. The server and I discussed this discrepancy he said next time order "Indian spicy." I think that is fair. The food is great. Drink: never had a flying horse beer before. Usually king fisher or cobra. So that was a nice change. The only reason I'm giving such a low review is because of their ventilation. Their restrooms are downstairs and there is an overwhelming smell of sewer gas. Looking at the place and their very nice decor you wouldn't expect it. And it's probably the building owner or property manager's fault - but it cant be ignored. If you're up in the main dining room you probably can't smell it. However, again I'm here on an empty night. The smell hit me as soon as I made my way downstairs. read more

I LOVE the food here. We have been back several times. Any time we have some time before an event downtown we make it a point to stop in. The entrees are delicious. I like all the proteins but the lamb is my usual go-to. They always ask me how spicy I want it between 1 and 10. I am typically a 7 :). The drinks are great too; I like the Bombay Girl. Pro-tip - you'll want to get extra garlic nan-bread; it's hard to share when it's so delicious. Also, the wait staff is always so sweet and the prices are really great, especially for Old Market. Just because the ambience saved them from the utter shame. The best ambience among all the Indian restaurants I have visited in Omaha. But you go to a restaurant to eat and they are disappointing in this department. I went for a lunch buffet. The options were very limited for both veg and non veg considering an Indian buffet. So there was chicken tikka in starters, butter chicken and chicken curry in main course and chicken biryani. Ohh that's a lot of chicken, I think they don't know that there are more varieties in non veg food. For veg folks it was same with chola. The food was cold, I guess as there were not many people and they have loaded too much on the tray. Coming to dessert, jalebi which was super cold and rice pudding was ok. The taste was ok and surely they are doing no justice to the amount they are charging for the buffet. read more

Totally surprised. Arrived here late for a conference and totally famished. Walked to Old Market but the smells coming from this place made me come back. Amazing Indian food in Nebraska. I am stunned. Naan perfect and the Chana massala spicy and perfect. Even though I love meat, I find that the most interesting Indian dishes are vegetarian. Ordered this because my neighbors make a chickpea dish that I love back home. This was the perfect start to my three day journey away from home. Five stars! read more

After an unfortunate incident 25 yrs ago, I have avoided Indian food ever since. But I would do anything for my grandson, and Shahi was his choice... We loved this food! My mates ordered chicken tikka masala and I, chicken biryani. Not too adventurous, I know, but... In my 67 years, I cannot recall receiving a plate of food that SMELLED so wonderful. I finally tried this place and I have been missing out. Excellent food, lovely decor and attentive wait staff make for a can't miss evening. I started with an IPA beer on tap which had a bright hoppy flavor. For dinner I ordered the Tiki Masala with chicken and an order of Naan. The masala had a rich tomato cream flavor with just enough spice. (I ordered medium). The rice had a slight jasmine hint that brighten the flavor. The naan was large and cut down the middle to make for easy tear off. This single meal was easily enough for two so consider splitting. Come on downtown Omaha, support this fine restaurant before it is to late or worse, becomes a buffet. read more

Terrific flavors and lots of variety. Lamb Korma, Chicken Tika Masala, and Raita were delicious. Garlic Naan and the Jalapeno Naan were both mouth-watering good! I have gotten food form sushi many times. Had always enjoyed it. Enough that one time a large piece of plastic was found in our food, shahi staff took the item off after contacting them. This time however, I got food poisoning from there. Enough is enough. Obviously they have issues in the kitchen. Last time I'm ordering from them... something tasted off with the dish I got but I didn't imagine it would cause me a day of excruciating pain. read more

This is our go to Indian spot. We are always happy with the me u and good quality. We went last night and had Asmita as our server. She was outstanding. We never had to ask for water refills and she checked on us frequently. The staff here is being trained to provide service that exceeds expectations without being intrusive. Just the right mix. We both had the madras last night. This is hands down my favorite dish. Also tried the newly (since our last visit) added bullet naan which was so good. This will continue to be our go to spot. read more

Food is excellent! Tasty, plentiful, and not expensive. I dined alone so they sat me at the bar. A party of 4 occupied a table. At nearly 8 pm, no one else was in the place. But interestingly, the young women servers were scurrying around like the place was packed! Made me wonder if they were expecting a crowd later in the evening. Traveling the rough nebraska and Iowa (can't get out of these states fast enough), was delighted to find some serious Indian food in council bluffs. I love the food here. The service is always good. However, I got takeout two days ago and it was $40 for two dishes and a garlic naan. -the dishes came in small left over containers. It was not enough food to justify the price. I'll never order takeout from here again. read more

It has been weeks since Mother India closed and I have been hoping to find a good replacement. Went in for dinner on a Monday night about 6:00. From the street, it looked empty, but once inside there were quite a few tables filled. My wife and I had the vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala, chicken madras, and some garlic naan. Huge portions and everything was delicious. Nothing can replace the charm that Mother India had, but as far as quality Indian food, this will be my new go to place. read more

Loved it! Tried the #8 app, liked the sauces served with it, the fish was especially good. Ordered saag with shrimp, the appearance was a bit unappetizing but the flavor was delicious. We went here on a Monday night. Very quiet, but had great service. The server offered great recommendations, and the bartender was enthusiastic and personable. Food was wonderful! Great mint chutney with appetizers. Usually the naan is just a standard side, but the garlic naan and the fried naan were the best I've ever had! This place has been our Indian go-to for about half a year now. The overarching thing is that it is VERY INCONSISTENT. My fiancé and I have accepted that. When it's good, it's very good. The naan is great and both the tikka masala and the butter chicken are flavorful. We prefer to get these dishes in medium heat as we feel that adds quite a bit of spice and flavor to the dishes. The rice is also inconsistent, sometimes it's quite hard but we don't mind as it's good to soak in the sauces of the food but other times it is a bit softer. When it's bad, it's very bad. We came across this situation only twice in the last six months but it would put us off from ordering for long periods of times. Both of these times, the chicken was freezer burnt, it was very unpleasant. We weren't able to stomach it and at about $30 an order (for the both of us) it was a lot of money to toss out. Again it is just inconsistent but it's still our Indian go-to! read more

Don't get me wrong I got the refund from yelp. This is a feedback to the owner/manager not a rant. I ordered two naan dinners and chicken Tikka masala and a mango Lassi. The order that was delivered has the mango Lassi (thumps up for that). The naans and Tikka masala is missing. The thing I don't understand how they got the order wrong from a screen coz I put the order through yelp(GrubHub). When I called the restaurant to tell the problem, the person on the other end was like hmm may be the driver didn't deliver it properly. You gotta call him and ask for it. I know the restaurant made the mistake coz they deliver bag has my ticket stapled to it. That means the driver did do his job. The service really sucked, since they were blaming the delivery guy. Hope someone at the restaurant, does implement a proper system not to mess up orders. Hope this helps you in running a better service. read more

Came across this restaurant while browsing through Yelp. The reviews looked favorable so I ordered takeout. Mulligatawny soup, garlic naan and lamb tikka masala. The aromas on the drive home were sublime. When I finally arrived home we paired this with a Stella Artois. It was amazing! Plus you get 10% off for takeout.
