A true hidden gem in Alameda that I first discovered on Uber Eats. When I was back in town last week, I called in a large malasada order since they weren't available through the app. The staff were incredibly accommodating and even threw in an extra coffee malasada. Their loco moco, chicken, and ube mochi waffles are just as delicious. My family said the malasadas reminded them of Leonard's in Oahu, which is high praise. Saw this place hyped up on social media and decided to give it a try. We ordered the short ribs, loco moco with burger patties, ube pancakes, and an ube latte. The short ribs were 8/10 pretty good. The loco moco with burger patties had a weird tangy taste as if they put too much Worcestershire sauce. We were caught off guard with the spaghetti mac salad but it was good. The ube latte was awful. I hope they taste it next time and fix the recipe. It literally tasted like purple watered down iced coffee that was sitting out too long. Customer service was good. No table service, but the "call your number" style reminds me of the laid back "local" places in Hawaii. I hope it doesn't change. Stopped here for Alameda Restaurant Week, it was our first time visiting and will be back. We specifically ordered from the specials menu. Both dishes were flavorful and delicious. My family is obsessed with the Shaka Shack. You really can't go wrong with anything you order. I've loved the Loco Moco, the Ube Mochi Waffles, and the Poke bowl. All standout delicious. We drove from San Ramon and ordered the ube mochi waffle, kalbi and eggs, side of spam and couple drinks...50 min wait. The spam came out when we were done eating and we had to ask about it twice. There was a couple who got there before us whose food never came out. We also ordered malasadas and we got incorrect fillings...I mean the food was all ok but Oahu is our 2nd home and unfortunately this just wasn't it for us. There isn't alot of seating (maybe about 4 or 5 tables?) so I wouldn't recommend any large parties here. Small menu but they do it well! Service was great - friendly and quick. No complaints. Looking for a different brunch spot while in Alameda. Came across this little gem. It reminded us of our trips to the island. From the decor to the color scheme. They were friendly and welcoming. There was a few tables indoor, outside covered and outside uncovered. They also had a surfboard for a counter to sit at right in front. We had The Kalua Loco Moco, Da Kine Burrito, fried rice, ube mochi, and madasalas (lilikoi and pineapple.) Love having a more authentic Hawaiian option on our island! The loco moco is the star of the show but the kalua pork and kalbi are also good. I like their take on pot Mac though some people in my group miss the Mac (they use spaghetti for an interesting twist). The servings are hefty and hearty and if you're gluten sensitive they have good knowledge and options for a few dishes (and the chef is working on recipes for more). We came in on a Sunday with reservations for a birthday lunch. Gentleman outside was super friendly and had us seated right away. Everyone enjoyed their food. I ordered the Kalua pork and it was a bit on the salty side. Here's where you get the 3 stars. I absolutely despise a QR code ordering facility. I have been to many places that had this but a human ordering was also an option. This is not the case at the table. You have to go to register if you want a human to order your food. We had two parties and didn't realize we can only order on one phone at a table even after the tab is paid for etc. We had to then go inside to ask how to proceed with the rest of the parties ordered because did someone come to assist in explaining anything? No. We had to place the order inside, great, asked about additional orders if we wanted more mimosas. The gal at the register ensured us after the tab closes it was not a problem for additional orders. Well only the original persons phone would work for additional orders. So any additional orders we needed to place had to be done on the original phone that placed the first order. No one came to ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything until they were ready for us to leave at closing time. PSA this is a small literal house size restaurant with decent food and a friendly staff just not attentive. It is more like an order at counter and food will come out and don't expect restaurant style service (fast food style) I just thought it was a regular brunch style restaurant which is why I chose it for my birthday lunch. He said it was good. They gave us some free malasadas and we also purchased some - they were ok. They are v dense and I prefer my malasadas on the soft side. Excited about more Hawaiian options on our little island. Stopped by on the first Saturday I think they might have been open? Not going to discount my rating due to slow turnaround - but just wanted you to know for planning. I felt it was still "food truck" length of time (40 minutes from 12:10-12:50). We ordered the Kalu pork with mac side. Max salad had everything that I liked with flavor and crunch. We took some home after 2 of us nibbling on it. I got a marlasada side - yummy! Although a bit different than Leanard's in Hawaii, amazing of flavor and ease to eat. (Warm but not scolding hot!) We'll be back! Ok y'all please support this new local joint. The owner and cook is actually from Hawaii, this is legit. The Shaka Shack recently opened. The vibe is awesome, very chill, great Hawaiian music playing and Aloha service. The food is Hawaiian local. My husband said perfectly with " it's legit but almost cleaner" meaning it wasn't as heavy or greasy and some places can be in Hawaii . They serve breakfast and lunch.
