After attending the grand opening, I've eaten here two additional times. Once was to use a coupon I was given, and once because my daughter wanted to try it. I have to reduce my rating from 3.5 stars to 2 stars because I really think this place is way overhyped and overpriced. I stand by my opinion that their burgers are nothing special. Fries are nothing special (seriously, I can buy crinkle cut frozen fries from the grocery store, and melt some plain ole Velveeta cheese on them, and they'd taste the same, for a lot less expense.) One of the items I ate was a plain burger, like it had 2 buns and a thin, flat, fried slice of meat. I didn't expect it to be completely plain, so I didn't specify that I wanted lettuce and tomatoes and the cashier didn't ask me if I wanted any. The best things were the shakes, and even then, there are shakes that are just as good as or better than for less $ elsewhere. I will be spending my dollars and caloric intake at some other burger place in the future. read more

Shake Shack was a first for me. And it was definitely worth it! My boyfriend and I attended the soft opening and it sure was packed. We ordered at the kiosks off to the left when you enter (there are 3), and they were very easy to navigate and use! We were able to order in less than 3 mins. When you place your order, they give you the option to enter your cell number so that they can keep you updated on your order via text. Love this feature! As far as the food, the burgers were delicious! I ordered a single patty shackburger which was topped with lettuce, tomato, and their famous shacksauce. Perfect bun to burger ratio in my opinion (which I'm glad I didn't order a double patty). Their crinkle fries weren't anything special, but i appreciated that they were crisp and not soaked in oil. We also ordered their watermelon basil lemonade and it was so refreshing! The basil note was not too overpowering at all. Overall, I really enjoyed the food. Eagerly anticipated eating at the new Shake Shack in the Summit on 280. My sister ate there earlier this week and said it was good. They open at 11:00 a.m. and we arrived at 11:15 on today (09/01/18). The line was almost out the door. I suggest you look over the menu online before you come. If you are wanting to dine in have someone in your party secure your seats first. The newness has not worn off so securing your seat is the first priority. They did not have any concretes because their machine was broken and they had sold their last custard. How are you out of custard at 11:15 a.m. when you open at 11:00 a.m.? This screams poor management. Now to the food. The burgers are great. The fries are good. However, the price does not match the food. We paid $60.00 for 4 burgers, 4 fries, and 4 drinks. Say, what? Steak n Shake, and Freddy's are better options when you consider the price. On Friday's at Perry's Restaurant I can get 4 signature pork chops for this price. Only opened about 3 weeks, Shake Shack occupies where Coldwater Creek used to be at the Summit. It's in a prime location because it's on the corner where vehicles turn into the main shopping area. It is also across from the popular Cheesecake factory. Decorations are simple with the now popular viewable duct ceilings. Shake Shake originated up north in the New York area. Their humble roots began as a food cart. Now they are expanding across the nation with the nearest Shake Shack in Atlanta. When you enter there is an ipad station to your left where you can place your order and pay except this Sunday afternoon, the devices were inoperative. I discovered later from the General Manager that they were having tech issues and their WiFi was down. Straight in front are two young ladies manning a register and behind them on the wall was their large menu. According to their menu they use 100% all natural ingredients including their beef, chicken and pork along with cage free eggs on non-GMO potato buns. Their biggest variety are their burgers. They have a chicken breast sandwich, hot and chicken dogs, Crinkle cut fries and a variety of shakes, cones and concretes round out their menu. Concretes are their frozen custard blended with different ingredients of your choosing. They also have a variety of interesting alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages including watermelon basil lemonade and abita root beer. After you select and pay for your order, good luck finding a place to sit. There's actually plenty of seating but on this Sunday lunchtime, it was packed. There were a few outdoor tables as well, but it was busy. There is a drink station in the corner and adjacent to it is their "pickup" area. When your pager goes off, they will also announce your name out loud. We weren't very original as all 4 of us ordered the same Shackburger! Since most everything was a la carte, I ordered a cheese fries. The burgers were simple and straightforward. Nicely cooked medium patties, lettuce, cheese, fresh tomatoes and lettuce. The best part was their non-GMO buns that was toasted with a healthy spread of butter! Yom Yom. The cheese fries were very good because they didn't use canned cheese and their shakes were not bad. We tried the Chocolate and Strawberry Cookies n Cream. The Strawberry one tasted like Strawberry Short cake. Friendly staff was always keeping the tables cleaned for the next customer. The manager stopped at our booth to check on us. Nakia was very friendly and gave us a nice history of Shake Shack. Nice atmosphere. Large open windows provided plenty of light to showoff their contemporary "wood" style walls. Shake Shack was akin to eating at a McDonalds or Burger King, but elevated. Food quality is of course on par with their elevation thus also their prices. You can also use their app to order ahead. Nice touch. I just tried out Shake Shack for the first time for lunch today. I arrived around 1:30 PM and there was a line, but it wasn't too bad. I was able to order within 10-15 minutes. My husband and I both ordered the bacon cheese fries. They were decent, but nothing to really write home about. My husband tried the chicken sandwich and he really liked it. I ordered the vanilla custard mixed with the pie of the day, which was Peach. This was my first time trying custard, but trust me, it's not my last time. Custard has a different consistency than ice cream and it was really good to eat the cold custard the warm peach pie mixed into it. We were able to sit inside, but there's a nice size patio area outside if seating inside is limited. The workers were friendly. Our cashier asked if we were ready to "shack it up" and I told her "absolutely". Service was slow and unfinished, I got tired of folks getting drink sprayed on them and I started putting ends on foundation machines and staff came over and toke it from me. In modern ambiance with music and sports on tv. Burger had a weird taste, thought it was just me be over heard others make comments about it. We had been looking at this restaurant for some time and decided that today being our last day in town that we would have this. The hostess or person standing at the door could've been a little more helpful but I won't knock them too bad for this. We stood in line with others before us for at least 3-5 mins before we asked if we needed to place our orders on the tablets. They had a nice setup and it is where you place your order (kiosk tablets). We placed our orders pretty easily. We both ordered the Chick'n Shack with a side of cheese fries. Came here the other night and was fairly irritated. 1) they didn't have anyone at the front taking orders. So the only option was ordering on the kiosks. Of course they have a kiosk closed for "social distancing". (Mind you, there was no one wiping the screens off between uses). So this was bottle necking everyone trying to order right to the front so they could all stack on top of each other. 2) they don't give you anything on your tray except the food. So you have to make trips up to the counter constantly to get forks, knives, napkins, ketchup, straws, and literally anything else. 3) the size of the shake for the price was absolutely ridiculous. It was $5.29 for a tiny shake. TINY. You can go to Chick-fil-A and get a shake twice the size for $3. And it's just as good. Skip the shake for sure. 4) the food in general was tasty and hot. Not gonna dock them on that. 5) the men's bathroom was out of order. Obviously not necessarily something that can be helped. So they had everyone using the women's restroom. Perfectly ripe tomatoes, fresh leaf lettuce and Shack Sauce were delicios - probably the best tomatoes I've ever had on a burger. My only complaint with the burger is it's kinda small. This was my first trip to a Shake Shack anywhere. After hearing so much about this place, I was excited to try it. but I was also trying to temper expectations. There was a west coast burger place that was also hyped very high. And I probably would have loved it if I just happen to stumble upon it. But I am big about not overhyping things. If things are labeled as the "best", you set yourself up for disappointment. So with that attitude, I went in with an open mind. The ordering process was very easy. The people up front were very friendly and was very familiar with the menu and what we were ordering. I didn't know that there was an option for a double. Otherwise I would have gone with that. The costly menu options might deter some, but Shake Shack is quickly becoming one of my favorite burger joints in Birmingham. The burgers are extremely well cooked, the toppings and condiments cut and proportioned out perfectly, and the buns are the perfect compliment. The cheese fries are highly addictive. Their shakes are also to die for, rivaling Chick fila in quality (which I assume is the standard for most). The space feels cramped, but the hip aesthetic makes up for it, and the kiosks provide great convientiance during the lunch rush. The staff is extremely friendly as well. Disappointing and kind of dirty. We met up here with my daughter and son in law on a Thursday evening for a quick bite. I've never eaten there before, but my husband had been there once and was not thrilled. No one greets you when you walk in. No one was there. You order at a screen, of which there are three and they were absolutely filthy and covered in fingerprints and smears. They looked like they hadn't been wiped off for weeks--and that should be happening as a matter of course, every hour. Just gross. There are no workers nearby if you have any questions so good luck with that. You don't get your drink cup there, so I went to the serving area and asked for it. They had to check my order to make sure I wasn't stealing (even though they gave us more cups when they brought our order out!). The food was meh. My burger was ok--it looked like it had been slapped together pretty carelessly, half the burger hanging off the bun. Little care taken. We ordered a burger each, to servings of friends, and two drinks (two of us got water). That was $70! The burgers were ok--seems fries were subpar. The worst part is, I had gotten a couple of little paper cups fill of ketchup for our fries and when the IDIOT who was working in the dining room brought us our food, he slammed the tray down onto the cups, causing ketchup to squirt everywhere. Both my husband and I tried to stop him but he FOUGHT us to lam that tray down. He did not apologize or offer to clean MUCHit up. He was a jerk, and was also wearing absolutely gross black gloves he was cleaning with and then serving food with--it was gross. I doubt I will ever return. I came back here this weekend with my friend Kimia M., and I'm sure glad I did. My experience here this weekend was so much better than my first experience. From getting to sit inside this time and not competing with flies for my food, I got to really appreciate the designs and decor this time. It's a really cute place. Cute because it was rather small. Since we went during lunch time on a weekend, there were no single tables left, but a large narrow table in the middle meant to be shared. I ordered a single Smokeshack this time. Delicious. It's a burger with bacon and cherry peppers. I had no idea what cherry peppers were, but they were really the highlight of my burger! They tasted like pickled pimento peppers and added a lot of acidity to my burger. A double Smokeshack would have probably been the perfect burger, but I was wanting fried so didn't opt for that. The crinkle fries. Probably the only thing I would upgrade on. I was debating on regular or cheese fries, and I think I'll have to get cheese fries next time. The regular fries just didn't do much for me. Kimia and I shared a chocolate/vanilla custard. Delicious. One of the main things I will always look forward to when coming to Shake Shack. It's been super packed every time I have come here, and it makes sense. It's the only fast food place that's actually located in the Summit. My wife had never been to Shake Shack, so we stopped in. I ordered the Smoke Burger and she had the Shack Burger. Both burgers were good. I'd say mine was even a very good burger. The restaurant was clean and the service was fast. But, my wife said what I was thinking, "this place is a little over priced." Two burgers fries and drinks were $25. This is a price based on brand and reputation. They have every right to charge what they want. The burgers are very good, just not $7 each good. I also had the vanilla sea salt shake. Also very good. I was a little disappointed with the fries because it was a small basket of smaller fries. For the price, they can afford to amp up there fry game. This restaurant is chaotic, inconsistent and expensive. And what's more they expect you to place a tip on your bill when you haven't even been served by a human being. That's true. You, as a customer, order by a computer screen. No human contact there. You fetch the ketchup and napkins. No human contact there. And finally when your order is ready, you leave your table, and fetch the food. Am I, therefore, tipping myself because I've done all the work? The crinkle cut fries were above average - crispy and enjoyable - but also overpriced at $2.49 for a small tray that should be about the same amount as a small size order at Wendy's or McDonald's. But the fries with bacon & cheese weren't very good and not remotely worth the price ($4.69). The blood orange ginger lemonade was today's feature lemonade - they apparently have a different flavor each day. It was excellent with a great taste and just a bit frothy. Even it was pricy at $2.79 for a small or $3.59 for a large (equal to a medium at the typical fast food place), but definitely memorable and a real treat. The only disappointment with it came when I mentioned to a nearby server that it was empty when I got a refill (at 7 p.m.). Her response? "Yeah, I know. That's the last of it for today." Seriously??? On a moderately busy Tuesday night? At 7 p.m.??? At that point, I had concluded that the whole experience had been a "3" at best. But then my daughter asked if we had noticed that one of the concrete (custard) flavors was peach pie. Wow, that sounded good, so we decided to share it. As we ate the first few bites, no one said much. But after I got a bite that was mainly crust, I commented that I wasn't all that impressed with it, especially given the price - $5 for a small bowl. My wife and daughter both immediately chimed in that the overall flavor didn't seem right and finally concluded that the crust had a decidedly chemical flavor to it. The ambience and furnishings are definitely cool and the outdoor seating is a big hit. If only the food lived up to the environment! We all concluded as we walked around The Summit that this will be our one and only visit here...nearly $60 for 3 burgers, two orders of fries, two drinks (my wife had water), and a small bowl of custard. I really have no idea what makes this place a hit with so many people at these prices...overrated and underdelivered!
