I had the most difficult time picking up my food! My order was ready on time and beautifully packed. But ultimately I was accused of theft and a fake ID before being allowed to take my food! As I grabbed the order with my name on it I was stopped because "they were having problems with stealing." I was asked to produce a door dash order pickup page (this was my personal online order and I don't have DoorDash). When I didn't have my dasher app I produced my CA DL which matched the receipt on the bag. I was then told "is this even you!" Frustrated, I asked them to call the number on the receipt (my number). Ultimately i procured the original payment method (my CC) and CA DL and asked for a refund. The manager ultimately intervened and offered a refund and the free food but feeling embarrassed, profiled and falsely accused I declined and proceeded to place a replacement order on ubereats from the Del Mar location. Update: I asked My white friends if they have ever experienced what I did and they all said they have never experienced anything remotely similar to what I experienced. Being a Person of color, and being demanded 1) proof of purchase 2) ID 3) phone number verification and 4) original payment method when my white friends weren't, I feel is racial discrimination. Burgers are good but the staff service wasn't. The bathroom had no soap and I informed one of the staff members and they told their coworker. My assistant over heard one of the workers say "I don't have time for that." My residents and I continued waiting and I asked again from a male worker after he served other customers and said they will get some right away. Residents and I continued to wait but nothing. After 30 mins and for one of my senior residents to go up to the counter to ask for soap (again) they finally did it. I guess singing to Bruno Mars and laughing with their fellow coworkers is much more important than helping their customers. We will not be returning to this Shake Shack location due to the poor service and especially for them not caring about hand hygiene. First time ever at a Shake Shack. We ordered a Smoke Stack bacon burger, Korean chicken sandwich, regular Shake Shack burger and fries, with strawberry lemonade drink and waters. We sat outside where the empty tables were not clean. My wife asked a passing staffer to clean the table, but she never returned and I cleaned it myself. It was a slow time and probably 8 staff members were on hand but no one was charged with keeping tables clean. Effective restaurant management would assign staffers to monitor outdoor tables, routinely check with customers to ensure needs were met, refill water, etc. but this was not happening here (I worked in fine dining for a long time). The food: the Smoke Stack burger was covered in vinegary pepper relish which overwhelmed the sandwich. The Korean chicken was crispy but glazed with gochujang which was also vinegary - I had hoped there was a sweet base like found in Korean barbecue, which I feel would be a better choice for this sandwich. Again, the vinegar flavor overwhelmed. The strawberry lemonade was good, but was only about 12 oz. and priced over $4.00 so a larger quantity was warranted. The fries were good and fresh. Generally the prices are too high for fast food. We have now tried Shake Shack, but were underwhelmed and will not likely return. EDIT: Shake Shack reached out to us with incentive to go back. We did so and there were definite improvements made. Staff was very attentive to outdoor diners this time and service was much improved. Food was the same as last time and of course the relatively high prices remain. Exceptional food, freshly prepared to order! Very clean facility and the staff was very polite, pleasant, and focused on customer service. I witnessed the manager talking to an employee of a nearby business, asking how many employees they had so that Shake Shack could send them hamburgers next week! This indicated to me that the manager understands his customers and community. He is willing to go that extra step to build repeat customers...good business sense for the right reasons! We've eaten at several other Shake Shack locations and love the food, so I can only assume the food at this location is pretty much the same. Unfortunately, we placed an online order to go that was taken by someone else before it could get picked up. While I understand this is an all-too- common occurrence, what matters to me more in this business context is how management handles this kind of problem and treats the customer in the process. In this case, the location manager did not properly address the issue and canceled the order. No, we were not ultimately charged for the stolen order, but despite the time we spent trying to do business with this establishment, we came away with nothing except such a low opinion of this location's management that I'm now taking even more of my time to pen this review. read more

The burgers are super tasty but their seems to be some glitches with the whole ordering process. First, the burger is definitely top notch and the fries were ridiculously delicious. My friend did say the grilled onions on the road side was a bit runny(looked like dark snot, lol). Prob too much sauce, gotta learn that balance. First time visiting Shake Shack (SS) with an incident. Second time, for my friend who had an incident the first time. My friend had to go to the counter to get the food delivery person to give home his order. Seems they put the wrong order number and couldn't figure out who's food it was. My friend told them several times it was his order but so guess the food delivery person didn't believe him, lol. During our most recent visit, my friend and I ordered and paid. They delivered my order but somehow kicked his order out of the system (we both ordered together on the same ticket). I had to go to the cashier and re-order his lunch. Neither incident was a big deal, just kind of annoying. Also, when I went back up to order and lady was complaining bc she ordered and paid on the kiosk and her order disappeared. Shake Shack is a must try. The debate vs In-N-Out will rage on for infinity (especially in SoCal) so I was happy to take the challenge. I had the double Shack Burger, fries and a soda. The burger was beyond excellent. Crinkle cut fries were crispy and tender (nothing worse than soggy undercooked fries - In-N-Out I'm looking at you). Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Love coming to this location. It has a nice size outdoor patio. Its nice because you can even bring your dog! The food tastes so good and honestly this is the ONLY "fast food" I eat. I order the basic single cheeseburger and the original crinkle fries. The Chicken Nuggets are also so tasty! They have a big variety of dipping sauces. There are shakes, chicken nuggets, chicken sandwhiches, burgers, cheeseburgers, sodas, crinkle cut fries, lots of options!! The pricing is good and the customer service is Excellent. Everytime we are there someone comes up to us to make sure everything is good. The ordering is very easy. You can order with the people at the counter or on the ipad. I've been to plenty of Shake Shacks including the original one in NYC. I was SO excited they were building one right below our house. We've been there about 4-5 times now, and unfortunately we'll never go back (to this location). Every single time the quality has been horrible. We went 4-5 times thinking it was just because they were busy with opening, but it never got better. The last time I went, I ordered a grilled cheese because I figured, "who can mess that up?" They literally flipped the buns inside-out so the outside of the bun was facing the cheese and it was halfway slipped off. The shakes are still delicious though. So, they get 1 star for that. My husband LOVES Shake Shack so was waiting, waiting, waiting for our La Costa location to open. Despite the crowds and Covid, we risked it all to grab our first meal here on their opening week. We were able to order online, which we love, although I've not quite mastered their app yet... We ordered a single cheeseburger, a flat hot dog, fries, a shake and an iced tea. Everything was yummy! The burger is good, a little stingy on the lettuce for my taste, but the meat itself is spectacular. The fries are THE BOMB!! Crinkly, crunchy, soft in the middle, just enough salt and fat and yum! My hot dog was delicious!!! Flat grilled to add that tasty and colorful caramelization...and with the topping from my fridge, perfect! Ohhh that shake! My my, I just had a taste as it was my hubby's but so creamy and rich! And last but not least my iced tea with lemon was absolutely perfection...and I should know, I've been drinking iced tea over 50 years! So why 4 stars? I had the absolute worst experience that I've had at any fast food place at this shake shack. First they make you order from a kiosk and tell you to put in your phone number and they will call you when your food is ready so I do this and wait for 30 minutes for my food and then they tell me it's been ready and waiting for me at the counter when I never received a text saying my food was ready.
