After landing in MSP and fetching my rental car, I was ready for dinner. My original thought was to visit Schlotzsky's Deli for sentimental reasons. The one that set off my love for the place, in Apple Valley, is long gone. There is a single one standing in Edina. I decided to drive over there on a soggy, rainy Saturday. I was probably a block away, waiting for the traffic light to change. I noticed this Shake Shake on the corner. It looked classy and bright in the dark. I changed my mind and pulled into the parking lot. I found a parking spot and walked in. The huge menu on the wall greets you. The idea is that you order at the counter, pay, and then wait for your order. I can do that. I wanted a burger with mushrooms in it. The woman at the counter was helpful. I could either go with the 'shroom burger, which is vegetarian, or do the shack stack, which is a cheeseburger with a 'shroom burger. I was hungry. I went with the latter. I made it a combo by adding crinkle-cut fries and a strawberry shake. I paid using a credit card. You need to give your card to the person to do the transaction. I'm so used to doing it myself that it'll take me some time to adjust. She asked whether it was still raining. Yep, it was miserable, but mild. I got a beeper. I found a table and waited patiently for my order. The table is really an indoor picnic bench. For folks with long legs, it's quite the ritual getting in and out. I should have tried the higher bar stools instead. Anyway, I'd say about seven minutes later, my beeper was going crazy on the table. I picked it up and headed over to the pick-up counter. I picked up my order for Mery. As of late, no one seems to be able to spell my name, other than the Starbucks guy yesterday. The world is changing at a frightening pace. I headed back to my table to chow down. The burger was so good. I normally don't like breaded mushrooms, but this one was juicy, flavourful, and fresh. The burger patty was equally as juicy and nicely seasoned. The bun was perfect. I got some ketchup to dunk my crinkle-cut fries in. The grooves are perfect to dunk whatever condiment or sauce that you'd like quite nicely. The fries were crispy on the outside and creamy inside, as they should be. My strawberry shake was thick. It's the frozen custard type. It's a close second to Culver's. The strawberry flavour was so good. I was so stuffed that I didn't know if I could get up and walk out on my own. I managed to waddle eventually. I visited the women's washroom before I left, as it was messy eating such deliciousness. It was clean and roomy. I will say that it's not a cheap burger joint. I've ordered from here a quite a few times (Shake Shack was my go-to when I was pregnant) and have never had a bad experience -- my food isn't always hot when it gets to me but that's because it's a ways away. Came in around 5:30 on a Saturday. The dining room was pretty full but there was no line to order. The staff was attentive and helpful. There were a few empty (and clean) tables available, so we opted for a booth. We helped ourselves to some water and our food was quick to come out after just a few minutes. The line did seem to back up a little as a few families came in, but staff was prepared. The burgers were hot and fresh. A little on the small side but perfect she-size. If I were a larger person/ man I probably would have wanted two burgers. I had ordered the Shack Meister with the addition of lettuce and tomato. It was delicious, the fried shallots definitely added a fun crunch to the soft bun and shack sauce. Crinkle fries were hot and crisp! The concrete hopscotch thing was a little dissatisfying. The flavor was good, but the chunks were a bit to large and hard for me. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I wish I would have gone with a shake. This was my 2nd time at Shake Shack and I'm craving it already. The Chick'n Shack sandwich with the pickles is what had me. It did not let down! If you have never been here, there a few things you need to know. Each location has a local charity they donate 5% of sales. They also use all natural ingredients and nothing processed. Also... they use all compostable cups, straws and silverware. You will expect to pay a little more to check off all these boxes.... worth it! Food: Chick'n Shack sandwich is crispy and juicy with amazing flavor and pickles! They are amazing and I order extra. :) There is also a seasoned sauce on it. Evil good! Crinkle cut fries and cheese fries: The cheese fries are awesome! They do not use a nacho cheese processed sauce, but real cheese! These were grubbin and tasty. Shakes: Pumpkin Shake (seasonal and ended 11-11... boo!). I am looking forward to the next seasonal shake! We also tried the chocolate. The flavor was a surprise to me as I was expecting the standard chocolate shake. Nope! This was more like a dark, rich chocolate. So good! Stopped by on a Friday night with a friend at the MOA location. There was a small waiting line.there were a couple of self ordering kiosks and a group of people were using it. I went to the regular waiting line. Service was a little hectic and kind of slow even though they did have a good number of employees on hand in the kitchen. Looks so elegant for a burger joint. It's easily accessible from France avenue and has ample parking. You order at the counter and take a seat until your buzzer alerts you that your food is ready. The staff is polite and even crack jokes with you, making it feel like a small town restaurant. Burgers are priced solo (fries are not Included). I opted for the Shroom burger and was really surprised how much I needed that kind of non traditional burger. With a portobello mushroom cap, stuffed with cheese then deep fried (can't make this up) it was still hearty and the mushroom wasn't greasy. The fry was crispy and light and didn't overshadow the mushroom or even the sweet Hawaiian like bun. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick bite to eat. read more

My first experience was actually at their flagship in New York City, and I loved it, so was incredible stoked when they opened not one, but two locations here in Minnesota! Whenever we pop in, I always get the classic Shackburger. It's just a regular, no frills cheeseburger, with the exception of the Shack sauce. I always judge a place by their basic cheeseburger. And even though Shake Shack is a chain, it never disappoints! Their crinkle fries are also tasty (if you're feeling feisty, get 'em topped with the best kind of processed gooey cheese). Then finish it all off with a shake or lemonade. You can stick with a classic shake flavor like chocolate, vanilla, you know. Or you can try their seasonal flavor! If drinking your dessert isn't your thing, you can always get a concrete mixer too. Basically think frozen custard on topping steroids! My one beef with Shake Shack (and why I give it four stars) is that it's kind of pricy for what you get. I'm not one to complain about price if the size of the meal or the taste knocks me out of my seat, but this is just good semi-fast food and it could be a teensy bit cheaper. As far as burger chains go (though this one sources some their ingredients locally), I can't not give Shake Shack 5 stars. This location consistently delivers exactly what I crave. And they're especially safe during COVID-19! Whenever I'm in the area I have to get myself a SmokeShack (the pickled peppers + creamy Shack Sauce combo is mouthwatering) and cheese fries, at the very least. I didn't even like crinkle-cut fries before Shake Shack, now I crave them, especially dipped in the all-natural cheddar cheese sauce. You can tell their Chick n Bites are hand-breaded, and they are now offered in several spice levels from none to "FIRE". The Shroom burger is an impressive and indulgent vegetarian option, and it's always hard to resist their seasonal milkshakes. I can't help it, I'm hooked!! During the pandemic, they provide a safe online ordering and pickup system (they bring your order outside), and even the drinks have safety seals on them. Shake Shack is cool! This is a newer location, I've been to the one at MOA when it first opened. They focus on burgers and shakes but they pretty much have basic flavors of shakes which is cool, helps the line flow faster with less options. I don't eat beef so I can't tell you how the burgers are but I have tried the chicken sandwich, which is good. It wasn't on the menu on the wall but at the register it advertised a hot chicken sandwich (spicy), so I got that. It was spicy and good. I really liked it and hope they keep it on the menu. The fries are okay. Nothing special. You can get cheese sauce on them, if that's your thing. I got an Oreo shake which was good. They use custard, which is cool. I love this location because it's big and has a heated patio. They have foosball and ping pong out on the patio which is a fun way to pass time while waiting for your food. They have plenty of seating. We went at 430. It was busy (but it's still new so the hype is still there), but at 5 the line quickly grew out the door. They do have an app where you can order ahead and skip the line. The prices are fair to me. Not too expensive. There's plenty of parking. Looking forward to having Shake Shack again!! read more

I visited the Shake Shack on a Saturday morning right at opening time. I was the first in line! It was my first visit as there are no Shake Shacks in the northern suburbs but I've heard of it. I had plenty of time to review the menu so time at the ordering counter is quick. By the time they were "open", the line was out the door. They were a little slow to get orders to the pickup window (~15 mins) but once mine came out, the rest followed. I was surprised to see how little the burger was. Compare to a cheeseburger at McDonalds. I was expecting a Quarter Pounder size for the price I was paying. Maybe the fancier burgers are bigger?? For al the hype of this place, I was just meh about the experience. I've not gone to the MOA location so I anxiously awaited this location opening so I could try it out. The menu is fairly simple. I went with my mom and so we both got burgers, we shared an order of fries. My mom got a malt and I got a custard something or other with chocolate and banana. The burgers were good. Not great, but OK. They have a crispy, buttery edge to the meat which is unique and good, but the rest of the burger was just generic. The fries were nothing more than frozen pixie crinkles... they advertise that they are 100% Yukon golds or something, but they don't taste any different than a pixie crinkle. My mom felt her vanilla shake malted was rather blah... also very runny. And my chocolate banana custard thing was not great. It had only 4 slices of FROZEN banana on the top, other than that it was just a chocolate mess... not bad... just meh. But everything I've had here has been fantastic. The ShackBurger, with it's creamy sauce and fresh beef, is truly legit. But what made me really pay attention was the chicken. Southdale MN location: Usually if I have questionable service and the food is good, I will come back. This place, no..that will not happen. I am disabled. I drove up and parked in the curb side pick up area. I followed instructions and ordered with their online app. I placed my order and all I got was a note stating they would be out in 7 minutes. I waited about 17 minutes and when I heard nothing, I checked my phone and had no verification of order or any info like' we got your order' etc. So I called the phone #. Nothing POs me more than an ALL automated system with no way to talk to any person. You have 2 choices on their phones-an automated hours and location or to go to the manager's voicemail which states they will get back to you in 24 hours. So, no help. After 20 minutes. I finally got out of my car and hobbled inside. A man was passing me and I asked if he happened to be holding my order and he was. He tried to hand it to me and leave and I said no, I could not carry it and get back to my car. He said they were very busy. There was not one person standing in line. He helped me and was very pleasant-not the issue. Ok, so this is what I ordered: 1: black and white shake, 1 root beer float, 1 plant based burger with lettuce and avocado (at 1.29 a slice-really?), 1 order of fries. The fries were as fries are-they were hot and salted as they usually are-nothing special but not bad. The plant based burger has NO avocado and had pickles-no ketchup-nothing. At least I could taste the burger. It was bland and dry and after 2 bites I threw it. BUT in the bag was a double hamburger with everything on it- bacon, lettuce, tomato and this weird pepper/onion grilled mess that was over powering and awful. It was so salty I could not eat it. Now the rootbeer float- the root beer used was awful. Tinny bad flavor. The ice cream or custard or whatever was not bad. The black and white was so sweet I could not drink it and the chocolate was like Hersheys supermarket syrup. I will say I usually had a bad reaction to the fast food ice cream-even Culvers-phelm etc. and I did not with this. Good stuff. One of the kings of fast food burgers is here at Shake Shack serving up epic smash style stacks of meat. I had a single Shackburger but definitely should have gotten a double. I waited a bit longer than I hoped for it but it came out hot with fresh veggies and perfectly melted cheese. The Martin Potato Roll is always a winner when we talk burger buns from its soft texture and buttery flavor. The fries by itself would taste good, but the solidified cheese on top was not great. The Shake was very good though, my favorite part of the whole meal. Ate here last night as part of a Yelp Elite event the restaurant was hosting. Was able to try out the fries, chick'n bites, and the shackburger, along with their seasonal pumpkin spice milkshake as a dessert. I also got a chocolate malt to take home. Shackburger: This was a pretty straightforward hamburger - some mayo-based sauce, lettuce and tomato on a cheeseburger. It's cooked to order and came out medium, which I like. I thought it was a bit on the small side for the price, but it was tasty. Fries: These were a bit of a letdown. I love a good French fry, but these were just crinkle-cut fries that were no better or worse than you can buy in a frozen food aisle. The $3 price tag on a basket of these is ridiculous. If I came back I'd skip getting them. Chick'n Bites: Pretty straightforward battered and fried chicken nuggets made with real chicken breast pieces. I probably wouldn't order them again for the price ($7 for a 10-piece basket). Pumpkin spice shake: Enjoyed this quite a bit, and I don't usually go for pumpkin spice. This was much heavier on the spices which really came through rather than the pumpkin. Almost made me think of a frozen chai latte. Shakes are made with frozen custard rather than ice cream and have a really smooth mouthfeel. Chocolate malt: I'm a bit torn on this one. I absolutely love a good chocolate malt. This malt had an amazingly rich chocolate flavor, but the malt itself was muted. I'm willing to bet the chocolate shake here is amazing, but they either need a stronger malt powder or to use a lot more of it. Venue: Really nice, laid back, modern atmosphere in here. Really the kind of place you could come and sit down and chill for a while, which may seem strange for a burger and fries place, but I thought was quite excellent. Staff was very friendly and service was good. Overall this is a fast casual place with a nice atmosphere and good burgers. I read the previous reviews on this location. I was weary of my visit, I had many of the same issues a lot of people did. 1st off , so confusing getting into the restaurant parking lot. Also confusing the roped off line, to close to door, people didn't know where to go. Maybe its not always that way. The lady taking our order, not sure if she was just having a bad day, normally pissy or off in another dimension. Not good service from her. Once into the restaurant it was very nice, when it gets warm plenty more seating outside. The girl I picked up the food from was very sweet and knew how to smile and say thank you! The manager was friendly, asked how everything was and offered to take our tray. I had the cheeseburger, husband had bacon cheeseburger. We shared fries. Food was real good. This is a nice place to eat. It's modern design and decor makes it appetizing to multiple age groups. I had the chicken bites they had a wonderful flavor with just a hint of pepper made the taste inviting. The line was a little long when we came in. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Shake Shack, so I was super excited to try out this brand-new location that's in a "pad" in the parking lot of the Southdale Mall. There's a lot to love about this SS location, and while they have not yet gotten their license to serve beer and wine (a manager assured me that it's coming soon), they embody all of the great things that I've come to know and love about Shake Shack. Here's some more detail: The food: A somewhat simple menu with burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and lots of different drinks, all of which are really, really yummy. In fact, I would say that SS has the BEST burger of any chain quick/fast service restaurant in the nation...you can't beat the combination of meat quality and taste! They also rotate through different seasonal burgers/sandwiches (the one right now is Nashville-style "hot chicken"), which are usually pretty phenomenal. They are very allergy-friendly (just ask). The lines can get long, so be sure to order ahead and skip the wait! The restaurant itself: unlike the location in the MOA, and many other Shake Shack locations, this one is completely stand-alone. It's fairly large, and has a huge patio with heaters (the patio was o.k. temperature-wise when outside temps were in the 40's, but too cold when temps dropped into the 20's). There are also some cool games outside (such as foosball and ping-pong), as well as those trendy string lights that all the hip restaurants have now. The inside is fairly large too, with LOTS of tvs showing sports (+ one showing Disney movies). The bathrooms are really clean. The staff was very, very friendly and accommodating, even serving us with a smile when we walked in 2 minutes before closing one night (we got our food to-go, of course). Parking is ample. All in all, a solid add to the Edina food scene, and a Shake Shack location that has all of the amazing service, food, and ambiance weall have come to know and love about the chain! read more

What a cool location with awesome patio space. The space stands out from the road and looks even more appealing the closer you get. Tons of seating and TVs to watch while you chow down on burgers and fries. The tricky part is you have to enter the parking lot from the mall entrance which can be confusing. Since you order first and then sit down the line can get long and was actually out the door when we went. In the cold winter months or hot summer days this can put a damper on the experience while you're waiting. Once we ordered it was about 15-20 minutes until we got our food. It gave us time to find a table and get situated with our utensils and soda refills. I went with the classic single Shack burger. Although the patties are thin they have a ton of flavor and the shack sauce is delish. We also got the Cheese fries because why not. A bit of an indulgence but totally worth it. I so badly wanted to order ice cream but that would have really been over-doing it. I'll definitely have to come back this summer for a treat! read more
