I can finally be a part of the group of people who have tried both in and out and shake shack. I'm probably one of the only people who can't choose between the two. I don't think that they are really similar enough to compare. With that being said, I didn't enjoy the shack burger that I ordered. The size of it is a lot smaller than other burgers for the price that you pay. Well I think that the burger tasted pretty good, I don't think it is worth all of the hype that people put on it. They do make their buns like a hotdog style to keep all of the food inside of the burger which is a cool concept. I wasn't very hungry when I came so I wasnt able to try more menus on the item. Although I don't think I was as impressed as I was hoping to be because of the anticipation and hype everyone has put on shake shack. Love this Shake Shack - the location is always central to where I am when I'm in the city and their quality and service is always excellent. During evenings especially on weekends, you definitely will have to scope out for people finished eating to nab a table to sit at, but I've never had issues finding a table before my meal was ready. Usually it takes about 10-15 minutes for the meal to be ready and the burgers and fries are always delicious. Many people also like their milkshakes but note that they use a custard as the base and so it's sweeter and more rich than most milkshakes - not my preference but others LOVE it. Their lemonade is also really delicious - I'm not sure if it's always the same one but the raspberry ginger that I tried was amazing. Between their burgers or their brat options, I'd always go with the burger. Good place to stop by for a quick and fresh tasting burger. read more

We were surprised and Happy to find this Shake Shack location open on New Year's Day. The line was pretty long when we arrived, close to opening, but it moved pretty fast. Everything tasted fresh and delicious and was nice and hot. The chocolate peppermint shake was very creamy and enjoyable even on a bitterly cold day in Chicago. Two of our shakes were left off our order, but they quickly delivered on it, once we asked. Carisse (hope I spelled it right) who took our order, was so sweet and a delight to talk to, after experiencing some crabby servers the night before, at a couple other restaurants, who clearly weren't happy about working that night. She made sure we had what we needed and thanked us for our order. Really appreciated the cups for water too and quick access and organized station of condiments, straws, napkins and silverware. There's not a lot of tables inside for eating, but people seem to move pretty quickly through the line and through their meals. I've heard people compare this place to "In and Out" Burger in the West, but I've had both and prefer the taste and quality of Shake Shack so much more. read more

Bread was nicely sliced as the connected bottom eliminates sandwich spills. Lettuce and Tomato is consistently sparse. The good news is, you get a chunk of chicken or fried mushroom. COUNTER SERVICE that yells even though you have a useless buzzer. McDonalds has a display monitor and they don't yell anymore. Current open-faced packaging is only appropriate for dine-in. I can't say I love Shake Shack as much as I used to when I started coming here a few years ago but it's still a place I like to visit every now and then when I'm craving it. This SS location is located in the heart of River North and in the midst of all the tourist attractions which is the primary reason it's always packed. The longes are very long but surprisingly move at a fast paced speed. I've ordered from their app before to ensure I get my order ahead of time and avoid the wait times but unfortunately this is something that still needs work on. If you place your order at a certain time, even if it's 30+ minutes in advance, they won't have it ready for you in time. You will have to wait 10+ additional minutes so mobile ordering is useless. Their staff has never been rude but they've never been friendly either. Customer service is something that can use some improvement. Their food is great. I love their Shack Burgers, they taste perfect every time. The portions are very small, though. One Shack Burger is about half the side of a regular burger. The other day, I tried their Shack-cago dog (Chicago styled hot dog), it was bite sized and too small for the price they charge for it. SS needs to increase the size of their items because what they charge for the amount you get is not reasonable. Their concretes and shakes are so appetizing; they're filled with loads of flavor and super thick and creamy! They even offer seasonal flavors that rotate every few months.
