I was a bit disappointed in the quality of service that day! I would have appreciated a refund or something in return for this experience. Uncooked meat can definitely make a customer sick. This Shake Shack is SO CROWDED! Good luck finding a place to sit! Although they do have a small downstairs area... don't be fooled. The line to order is already long and there's always a hoard of people standing to pick-up their food. At least they have those trackers. Reason for the 4 stars? The food was goood. I love me my cheese fries. Just be aware this location is crowded and caustrophobic... so you'll have to wait awhile for your food. read more

I feel like most Shake Shack locations have a semi-hectic atmosphere and severe lack of seating, but you can make it in and out relatively quickly if you order to go. I don't understand the "hype," about Shake shack burgers. They are slim patties that are dressed better than burger king. Nothing more and nothing exceptional about the burger. Local diners serve better burgers (size of meat and thickness) than shake shack. If Shake Shack serves patties (lean and slim) the beef should be flavorful (sirloin 40% ground beef 60%) for example so you can taste the complexity of the meat. read more

Living in close proximity to a shake shack requires a lot of self-control. I completely lack it though. I always more or less go for the same order - a single Shackburger with cheese fries or chick'n bites. I can no lie, have this order every single day and be 100% content. I've also gotten their other items like the chick'n stack, smoke shack, shack stack and their shakes. All EXCELLENT!! The prices are fair and definitely worth skipping over your local McDonald's and Burger King for. FYI, this location gets a little chaotic, particularly during lunch hour since it's right next to the Natural History Museum. You'll get luckier with seating around the evenings, but it's just a busier location in general because it's close to a tourist spot. I must say, it is pretty cheap for an upscale area. I loved the remote that signals you. The burgers were great. I don't think a Shackburger is any different from just a cheeseburger. It's the same thing. But they were VERY greasy and pretty messy to eat. It was so messy, I had to eat it without the wrap paper. It's an okay burger, okay dogs. And the mushroom burger (my friends highly recommended this) I thought was way too fried and cheesy, ugh. Did not want a second bite. I don't like their buns either, and everything's pretty expensive. I like that they use solar power though, that's pretty awesome! Their fries are really good too, although small portions. And their custards are great but if you get the concretes they come already pretty melted :( Not really worth the wait in Madison Sq. Park (unless you were like me in the summertime with nothing to do but wait around with friends who want Shake Shack), but the line is usually shorter here. Yes there are several Shake Shack in the city, and each place offers something different. It could be the view, the decor, the service, or a special menu, while getting that yummy food that they offer. At the Shake Shack on Columbus Ave, we were surprised with a really good service. There was one staff who kept the tables clean. I mean, really clean. When customers finished eating, he went and removed the tray and trash off the table, and when they leave, he will go over and wipe down the table with rag, and then, wipe the surface with disinfecting wipes! I hate leaving a bad review, especially during this time when I know restaurants are struggling, but... I was so excited to try the new limited-time Korean FRIED chicken sandwich tonight, which sounded delicious. I don't think I could be more disappointed. The only crunchy element on this sandwich was the slaw. The sandwich was basically the equivalent of boiled chicken with sauce. The sauce was good, but this was not what I was expecting nor what is advertised. I've eaten at this shake shack for years and honestly if I had done Yelp reviews from every order each would probably range anywhere from 2-5 because the customer experience and food varies that much, sadly. This time was so different and disappointing that I had to leave a review. This is a special for Korean-style FRIED chicken sandwich. It's a special. It's limited. It's supposed to be FRIED (aka. Crispy). How do you get that so wrong? Even the fries were ice cold despite the delivery taking less than 10 mins to get delivered. I don't expect steaming hot fries for delivery in January (even with an insulated delivery bag), but they were inedible. And you know there is no reheating fries... The only redeeming quality is that the burger was done to order and delicious. Glad I had a backup burger because the chicken sandwich and fries got tossed in the garbage. read more

Came to this shake shack after the museum of natural history. The place was very crowded. There were seats upstairs and downstairs. The seats upstairs were very narrow and tight. Downstairs is more of a square and it was very tight as well. Can't even fit a pockit stroller. Had to fold it and put it between the legs. Also, the downstairs the pipe was leaking water. So, I was sitting and eating while drips of water was dripping down next to me. I finally tried the shroom burger but, it wasn't what I was expecting. Every bite I took there were googy cheese leaking out. I would prefer the shack burger more. The fries was very good. Overall the food are pretty good and price is ok. I've had good experiences here before but I unfortunately don't think I'll be back after my recent visit. I ordered a double shack burger to go and when I took a bite into it back at my apartment it was pretty much raw. I'm okay with a medium-rare burger, but this was pretty much seared on the outside and raw, red, lukewarm ground beef on the inside. Not safe or appetizing. I immediately went back to the location (I'm luckily pretty close) and the front staff were very attentive and apologetic. They redid my order, but when they called the order out the person heading up the cook like said to cook it "very well done". I'm not a super sensitive person but he had a pretty sarcastic tone and I could tell they viewed this extra order as annoying. After another 5 min wait or so, I got another bag with my order in it. I took it home and hoped for he best. Well my intuition was right, the burger was completely charred and almost inedible. There was a flat black crust that had formed on the bottom of each patty as they probably just sat there. I just wanted a burger, not raw, not burnt to a crisp. I tried the burger with the deep fried mushroom for the first time and total fell in love! It was absolutely stuffed with cheese that was perfectly melted. The panko breading was crispy - a great balance to the gooey inside. I think that next time I would add bacon, simply because I can. There's a restroom and additional seating downstairs. But because there are only two single restrooms, I line is likely to form and run up the skinny set of stairs. Don't forget to check out their special concrete or milkshake because different locations offer different flavors. When I visited, only this location was offering a concrete in honor of the current Shakespeare in the Park Play that was only available for that month. So fun! At around the time I was supposed to receive the order, I got the notification that my order had been cancelled. The other times that I've actually gotten my order, I've had problems, always with the extras that I add to the burger. So then it's a huge hassle to contact their customer service for a refund. Your standard Shake Shack chain. The place is somewhat small and the dining area is always packed, so I'd recommend eating your burgers out in Central Park as it's only a block away. If you don't really care about service and wait time, then you won't really have an issue with anything. read more

Being from California, I love in 'n out and it will stand on top as one of my favorite fast food burgers. Shake shack is a great burger as well but if you compared prices, it's nearly double that of in 'n out. Therefore I don't think it's fair to compare the two. Now if we are just talking about shake shack, their burgers are great but I think their chicken sandwich is far better than any other franchise out. Crispy, tender and just all around a great chicken sandwich. I don't mind paying extra for this delight. Their shakes are also very good but again you are paying a premium for that quality. I enjoy shake shack and if there was one in the bay area I would for sure go there to enjoy a chicken sandwich. Worth all the hype especially if you're in below freezing temperature and just want to grab a quick bite. Only problem is seating....best time to do take-out though!
