    Undeveined Shrimp
    Dan C.

My wife and I recently visited Shaking Crab and wanted to share some feedback regarding our experience. My wife ordered a pound of shrimp, and Garlic noodles, I ordered a pound of mussels. Unfortunately, the shrimp was not deveined or cleaned before cooking. When we brought this to our server's attention, we were told that they do not devein shrimp during busy times, which we find unacceptable given our concerns about food safety and quality. Additionally, the portion of mussels served was less than a pound, which was disappointing. For your safety, I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is a WASTE of money.

3 years later, we have returned and I'm still a fan! I'm happy to see that they now use real plates and not paper plates. Service, as usual, was very friendly and prompt. I love that they open in the afternoon, as sometimes it's hard to find a restaurant that's open from 2pm-5pm. We arrived on a Thursday so the restaurant was not too busy but it was perfect for us! Shaking Crab is such a neighborhood unassuming little gem. It's kiddo's favorite Cajun place to go to town with bibs and gloves on!! We ordered one pound of head-on shrimp $19.99 with medium spice level Cajun sauce. Honestly I wanted to go spicier but kiddo is still trying to level up her spice game. Their shrimp has long whiskers so if that bothers you, maybe consider ordering something else. We loved the shrimp -- super flavorful! Got the garlic noodles $9.99 kiddo has been dreaming about for the last 3 years and it tastes really good if you mix it in the Cajun sauce with the shrimp! Also tried the whole fried tilapia $12.99 -- a little plain so you really need to dip it in the sauce it comes with for flavor. This is a classic Filipino dish. Lastly we tried the soft shelled crab salad $15.99 -- this one was a bit of a letdown. I think the crab was premade frozen from a package. Honestly just an overpriced salad so I wouldn't get this again. Stick to the shrimp boil. I read another review that was bothered by the fact that the shrimp veins were not cleaned so if that bothers you, go somewhere else. We ate everything and I could probably eat another pound, no problem! Shaking Crab has a cute dimly lit oceanic decor with two super nice ladies that have been working here for years. Total bill was $64.80 for 4 dishes -- not bad in this economy for seafood!

    C3: King Crab

I mean, it's seafood boil in Daly City. Westlake, at that. The food is always good here, I just wanted to splurge so my boyfriend and I agreed on C3 with king crab legs; also comes with a pound of shrimp, potato, sausage, and corn; all for $76. My boyfriend and I don't eat the corn, ever. But being the asian I am, I did the math ala carte, and even if we did the pound of king krab, 1/2 pound of shrimp, potato, and sausage, it'd cost $10 more. So we sucked it up and just ordered the combo. My boyfriend and I aren't the biggest spicy food fans, but we always get the mix of all the flavors (cajun, garlic butter, lemon pepper, and atomic) with a mild spice level. My boyfriend always asks if we should do medium, and every time we're halfway thru the meal, he looks at me and thanks me for remembering we get mild spice. The atmosphere is fun in here; definitely not first date friendly, but always nice seeing a game of some sort going with the screens they have inside (I believe there are 5), right now is NBA finals season, so that was fun to watch while eating. The bibs always make me laugh, and the tables always have salt and pepper and they will personally bring lime wedges to make your own lime-salt-and pepper dipping sauce (at least that's what I noticed everyone else doing; I would've put it in a corona bottle) I definitely recommend having some rice ($3 charge each), because about 2 hours after eating both my boyfriend and I were hungry again, even after devouring everything with no leftovers. we've had the garlic noodles before, the only issue is that they are great when they first come out but once they get cold they harden, which makes them heavy to eat at the end of the meal when we forgot about it after peeling shrimps. the cajun fries are light and shoestring size, very seasoned but also delicious. they come with a mayo based sauce it's always a dent in my bank account coming here, but it never disappoints. we will be back :)

Greetings to all, first off, l haven't been to this place since 2017 and at that time we all had a great time; this time it was different. The breakdown: Parking is at will or not very many options besides the Home Depot across the street. A (D) for me Inside the restaurant itself was kind of moderately lit for what they were trying to achieve. A (B) for me. The service was just ok, the waitress that took our orders forgot one of our main dishes, and to add to that, they brought us a dish we didn't order; this is A (C) for me. The food itself came very hot to our table which was ok except for one thing; they over cooked the fried Shrimp and Fish fillets ( Very Hard and Crusty) - The seafood boiled in the Bags were Lacking the Boil sauces that they were to come; leaving the boiling bag very Dry. The Garlic noodles were overcooked as well and sticky. This was a ( C) for the overall food that was brought out to us. We paid 300.0 for this dining experience. A lot has changed since 2017 and it wasn't for the better; This place is Not up to the Owners standards. I Do Not Recommend This restaurant at this Time.

    Cajun Wings with French Fries

I have passed Shaking Crab many times while shopping in the Westlake District but never ate here. We made reservations for 6 on a Tuesday evening and luckily we did because it was very crowded. We stood at the door for over 10 minutes before any waitress acknowledged us or came to seat us because they were so busy. We ordered the Combo #4, medium spice and added order of sausage & potatoes to it. Also ordered large order of wings that came with thin french fries. Wings were excellent and the fries were crispy. The Combo came out piping hot. It is definitely messy so put on your bib and gloves. The food was very tasty and overall good. It had crab, shrimp, crawfish, clams, sausage, potatoes, and corn. I didn't like that the shrimp is not deveined so I personally didn't eat it cause it looked dirty after you peeled the shrimp and saw the ugly black yuck on the shrimp. The sauce was especially excellent and was delicious over rice. My complaint is waitress never gave us plates or utensils and after asking twice, she brought over 1 fork for the 6 of us. The rest of us ate the rice with our fingers? Service should be better! So reason for 3 star rating is had to take off for the service. Not once did anyone ask if everything was good or do you need anything. Next time waitress came over was to drop the bill off to pay.

Haven't had cajun food in a long time and tried this place tonight. You could either create your own or get a premade combo. However we don't really eat corn or potatoes. We got 2 lbs of shrimp with sausage, a side of sweet potatoe fries, and garlic bread. The sauce we got was atomic (all sauces mixed) and medium spice. The medium spice REALLY hits the back of your throat so beware! lol. We asked for extra lime and they gave HELLA! The shrimps were really good and so was the sauce. Bag came out piping hot. Would love to try their garlic noodles next time though. The restaurant is a good size, and plenty of seating on a Thursday night. The servers come around and ask if we need water and are attentive. However the lighting here is so dark.

Located right around the Westlake shopping center, so plenty of parking. Well-lit and spacious inside, and bathrooms are clean as well. Service is fast and friendly. The food: got 2lb shrimp (garlic butter/atomic), garlic noodles, and 6pc oysters. The shrimp were 50/50, half of them being bouncy while half being mushy. Garlic butter sauce was good, but atomic sauce was very pepper heavy. I added sausages to my shrimp and they were super tasty! The oysters were big, but not the best tasting. Garlic noodle portion was huge, but could use a little more flavor. They gave gloves, bibs, and a mountain of lime which was nice! Total after tip was around ~$90 for two people, which isn't bad for Cajun (Shrimp was about $20/lb, oysters were $15). I'd go again if I was in the area and had a strong craving for Cajun, otherwise not a must-go.

I love this place! We always get the C3 combo with atomic sauce and mild spiciness, and it is so delicious! Love how you can order extra of various items like 1lb of shrimp or extra corns. The sweet potatoes fries are a big hit for us too, very crispy!

Been looking for a shrimp boil restaurant near San Francisco to kick my cravings--this was not that place. The service was good, we came here on a busy Friday night and were able to find plenty of parking and be seated with a minimal wait. They do limes here instead of lemons. The food came out fast, and there was a wide variety of seafood, sides, and drinks available for purchase. The main complaint from me comes from the quality of the shrimps and the sauce. The shrimps here were a tad bit overcooked which makes it really hard to peel the shrimp. The sauce was very underwhelming as it was both not mild (bland) and not lemon pepper (again, bland). I wish there was more of an effort to make the sauce pack more flavor rather than fat and calories from the excess butter.

My daughter wanted seafood boil for dinner tonight. So she found Shaking Crab nearby us. Theres a big parking lot across the street and a limited front parking spaces. The place was crowded but we put our name on the list at the front door. She ordered the C2 platter, garlic butter sauce, and explosion spice level. I got the C4 platter with garlic sauce, and mild level. What's cool is that we can just pour everything on to the table and eat from there. But be ready for a hot mess. Overall, the flavor was not bad. Once the food was delivered, the waiter never once return to ask how we're doing (we needed a new glove because the crab poked through), and never offered to refill the water. Other than the poor customer service, the food wasn't bad.

    Jacob C.

The food here is absolutely delicious, though it's definitely on the oily and garlicky side. I assume you know that if you're coming here. I tried the shrimp, clams, potato, and sausage, and everything was packed with flavor and steaming hot out of the bag. It's definitely a messy experience (you'll need a bib), but that's part of the fun. I choose to wear the bib and gloves when I eat, but you could go without but it will just be messy. Next time, I'm planning to try the crab and mussels

    Katrina L.

Food overall was pretty good. We got the Cajun butter seasoning and it was tasty. I definitely needed to add salt to my food for a deeper flavor. We also got the chicken wings which I thought was super delicious and had a nice crisp to it. The service was great! Our waitstaff were super kind and attentive. If you're looking for a local seafood restaurant to try, this wouldn't be a bad place to come to eat.

    Combo #1 (C1).... Over-cooked and under-seasoned...
    Renee R.

I was truly disappointed by the food and the service here. The server rushed through our entire order, didn't check on us, then rushed to give us the bill and grabbed the bill and tip quickly. The seafood was overcooked and the sauce had no flavor. All of my mussels were completely separated from their shells and the food left a rubbery, nasty after-taste in my mouth for hours. We ordered the dynamite sauce which is advertised as spicy, but there was no spice at all (It might as well should have been mild sauce!), and when I asked the server for a small ramekin of XX sauce, she told me that I had to buy a container of the sauce, which is six extra dollars. I'm convinced that the only reason why this place is still in business is because there are no other seafood boil places near the area (which is why I picked it, unfortunately)...

Is happy hour available now that SIP is over?

Hi, I suggest contacting the restaurant directly to get a firm answer with things changing all the time. Good luck!

Are you open for dine in? Can you accommodate a group of 15?

    Yes we are

Are they still doing happy hour?

    Not during SIP.

    Are you open for takeout?

    Yes

    Are they closed?

    No they are not

Hi r u guys open to takeout? And what r the hours thanks

Take out is available. They open on weekday from 2-10 and 12-10 on weekends.

    Do they take orders to-go?

    yes

Is the crab cold or is it served hot?

Hot. Cooked and served in a thick, plastic bag.

I notice they have some other types of food I like since I don't eat crab, lobster, crawfish, or shrimp that's in a shell. I have a phobia of wearing a bib. Are wearing bibs an obligation (requirement) or optional as I know they may be recommended…

No need to stress, it's the guests choice, you do NOT have to wear a bib :)

The eggplant, steamed fish, chicken feet, tuna sushi, hot n sour soup were great! Obviously for a buffet the food won't be perfect so it was good for what it was. San Francisco has a void to fill when it comes to large scale buffets. The last one I really…read moreremembered was Moonstar in the Civic Center area in San Francisco. They had rows of food like sushi , seafood , chow mein, and lots of deserts. Today's buffet landscape in SF is centered around one type of food and it's usually has a time limit. Currently you have to go out of San Francisco County to try a bigger buffet experience. So I had to go next door to San Mateo County and went to a place which was a buffet place called Kome . It's now called Daly Buffet in Daly City on Junipero Serra. Outside of San Francisco I landed in Daly City at Daly Buffet on the boulevard of Junipero Serra. There are lots of tables and the wait can be 30 minutes when I arrived for lunch. Inside there is hella food. You will find everything from sushi, noodles, ice cream, and dim sum . You can also find different types of fruits and also seafood. They have quantity and the food is fresh but it won't win any Michelin awards. Like most buffets it has a time limit and it's 90 minutes. Come here for Brunch or Dunch if you have an appetite. Come and get some seafood like shrimp , fish , and "clam"which you can make sour with lemon squeezes like you see on TikTok and "Instagram" then try different foods on your plate you try to "cram" like cheesy pizza, steam buns, noodles, sushi also some "lamb" The glory days of the Buffet in SF was a different "era" as they say "que sera sera" the buffets are not as big as the ones located in Lake Tahoe or Reno in " The Sierra" but it's good sized buffet located in Daly City at Daly Buffet on the boulevard of "Junipero Serra"

Note, their clay pot rice does not come with crispy rice bottom, but just ask if you want it. ;) * Beef Tartare- excellent flavor and soft fresh beef tartare... so good! * Blue Shrimp Ceviche - another dish that highlights their culinary expertise. Sashimi- grade blue shrimp in their special sauce.. well balanced flavor and just perfect! * A highlight was definitely their sake and cocktail list... they have plenty of good drinks here. My default is their Lychee Drink and the blue bottle sake. Always a good choice and Le Soleil offers the perfect setting for great friends to gather and have a few drinks! A very happy evening dining at Le Soleil. We will be back very soon!!!

The food though, just did not live up to the price. Portions weren't great. Clams were decent, but I've had better for cheaper. The pho risotto was interesting but criminally small and the meat was no where near fall of the bone. The braised ribs were too salty, and the sauce was only really good when paired with bread or rice Probably wouldn't return again personally. Staff didn't look too happy to be here either

We've driven by plenty of times when this place just opened and wondered about it. Then I checked…read moreYelp and I saw some cool pics of unusual Mexican dishes! So tonight was the night we felt like going out and didn't feel like cooking. We live less than 10 minutes away, so it was quick and simple. We found a parking spot about a block away. Beautiful Mexican artwork covered the interior walls and the place was festive and colorful. The bar had a modern vibe with words above that read, "Si fueras Tequila te tomarias enserio!" which google translates to, "If you were Tequila, you would be taken seriously." Something to ponder about as you're taking shots or nursing your drink. ***OUR PICKS*** ORDEN DE CEVICHE ~ this ceviche was tart and salty, but a nice starter to get your appetite going. It comes with crackers and tostadas. The shrimp was cooked from all the lime juice. Maybe more cooked than we would have liked, but it was definitely safe to eat. 4/5 CAMARONES A LA DIABLA ~ Giant prawns, Mexican rice, refried beans, a salad and 4 handmade tortillas. This was a generous platter and a fiesta for the eyes!!! The prawns were in a sweet and peppery sauce. My guy wanted some citrus to go with it, but the cut up limes we got were really hard and dry! No juice came out of it. So we ate the perfectly cooked prawns as is. They just needed some citrus to lighten up the flavor. The rice and beans were on point and the salad had an unexpected surprise, guava dressing! I love guava, so naturally I enjoyed the salad! And usually with a spring mix, the dressing is too tart and overpowering. This dressing was perfect, where it was sweet and tart with a lovely flavor! 4.5/5 TROMPO DE PASTOR ~ marinated pork grilled at your table side. It comes with a few pieces of pineapples, chopped red onions, cilantro, grilled green onions, grilled prickly pear cactus pads and 4 handmade corn tortillas. We got a little entertainment while eating this dish! The pork was a tad salty, so I would have liked some rice to balance it out. The rest of the condiments and sauces were good. 4/5 Service was excellent and food was tasty! We got some satisfying authentic Mexican dishes tonight and really enjoyed our time at Las Pencas de Maguey!

Came here with a few friends over the weekend, and had a great time! Las Pencas offers a variety of…read moredishes, mostly seafood based. First off- portions are huge! Food is meant to be shared, but my group all got separate entrees. I ordered the garlic shrimp rice plate, which was filling just for one person. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough shrimp! Flavor was garlicky, but not salty enough. This is probably a good thing, since you can adjust to your own dietary preference. A bit on the oily side (hence filling), but that's to be expected with garlic shrimp. The night we went, there was a birthday party happening in their private room. It was really loud and noisy, so it was hard to hear folks. Our server was nice, but fortunately for us he spoke loud enough for us to hear him despite all the loud music! Parking can be tough as it's in a residential area of DC with most of the parking being residential. So you might need to walk! Overall, I give this place a solid 3.5 stars - tasty food and pretty good service. Knocking down half a star for a somewhat subpar (loud/noisy) ambiance. I'd probably go back again, but for take out only.

My favorite would be the deluxe chirashi box for the wide variety of sashimi and salmon sashimi is my absolute favorite. I love getting salmon sashimi from every sushi place and this place def has some of the better ones. Service: we've never actually sat down in the restaurant since it looks super small and the tables are really close to each other and they're also typically busy and full. We order to go either over delivery or pick up and I would say it's pretty reasonable timing although I would recommend ordering ahead of time if picking up.

The space is very small, with three tables that seat two or three people and four stools at the counter. We ordered two rolls, the Oh Baby and Mango Salmon, as well as the sushi tacos. The quality and texture of the fish were good. Our favorite of the three dishes was the Mango Salmon roll. The mango paired nicely with the salmon, and the salmon itself was soft and buttery. The sushi tacos were enjoyable as well. The nori shell was crispy and added a nice texture, but I felt like the sauce was a little overpowering and took away from some of the other flavors and ingredients. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and appreciated the quality of the fish. It's a small spot, but worth checking out if you're in the area.
