I came into Shane Co at the San Mateo location after booking an appointment for my boyfriend and I to look for engagement rings to start having some ideas on where to start off with. I have made at least 3 appointments and finally decided on the perfect ring for myself and my boyfriend including wedding bands. ***In terms of stars I'm giving a 1 because of a worker named Robert, not because of the store Yesterday I went in to shane co with the intent only to learn and decide what I like/what looks best for engagement rings. We went in and this young lady was helping us. I told her I'm here to learn everything because I'm not a huge ring shopper and this is my boyfriend and I's first time going ring shopping. I showed her some pictures of rings that interest me. She went ahead and looked for some with the same style so I can try them on. Afterwards she passed us onto her colleague, Robert to help us. I'm going to start off by saying DO NOT have Robert help you if you are in a similar situation as myself. Or at all because he made me feel so uncomfortable! I also explained to Robert that we are here to figure out everything I like so for when the time comes, my boyfriend knows what to get. He helped us and brought out different rings. At one point he pulled my boyfriend away for awhile to have a private conversation to discuss budgeting. This was a bit strange as we both don't have knowledge on the prices of rings/diamonds so in my opinion would have been best to lay out pricing on the table and then maybe pull him away later. Anyways, Robert was continuously talking to me like a child, very condescending, and also kept saying that I was "all over the place" which is super unprofessional. When I would ask him his opinion on something he would say "this ring isn't for me why would my opinion matter" which I understand, but I'm asking his opinion for a reason - he's supposed to be the expert, right? As someone who is new to this I would like an opinion here and there when I ask for it. While Robert and my boyfriend were away, I asked this other worker what he thought about the two rings I was looking at. The possible pros and cons to them, etc. He happily helped me and told me what he thought, which really helped me rule out those rings so I appreciated that. I made it clear that I'm not interested in lab grown diamonds but he brought out some anyways to show me. Then he showed me the real diamonds and afterwards I wanted to see a size up for the real diamonds to see how they'd look and the difference between them. He simply wouldn't show me and was giving me a hard time about it and we were fighting back and forth which was ridiculous. He ended up bringing them out and then said he was being direct with me because again I'm "all over the place". I also asked questions about the wedding band as this is something I should consider as well when choosing my ring. He mentioned there is no time for that today because we've already been there for too long. Rude but okay. Another shopper next to me mentioned how she does not like Robert and gave her a bad experience as well. Overall I felt like this was supposed to be a fun experience and Robert definitely took away from that. I'd advise people with less knowledge on engagement rings to seek help with someone else. read more

Admittedly, I am drawn to trendy and/or upscale jewelry brands (ie Melanie Casey or Tiffany & Co.) and when shopping for an engagement/wedding ring, this would not have been my first choice. But my husband is practical and he cares about quality, value, warranty, etc. So, he bought my engagement ring here and I walked in for the first time to have it sized and browse for wedding bands. The store is fine, the sales associates are nice... The Diamonds, however, are extremely high quality for the most reasonable price I could find anywhere (and trust me, I spent a long time browsing.) They have a top notch return/exchange policy and every time we walked in they offered to clean and polish my ring. SO fun to see it sparkle like new! Now that the buying process is over, we are happily married, and I have my rings, I couldn't care less what brand they are. They are engaged!!!! I wish I could have posted this review earlier but I wanted to wait till it wasn't a secret anymore. My cousin woke me up early and begged me to come with him to find a ring for his soon to be fiancé. I'm so bummed to have to write this review. I just picked up my ring after not having it since 12/2/22 for a simple resize. I have had to make 5 trips from the eastbay to finally pick it up tonight and it's still not right. My ring was even completely replaced. I wish I just left it alone and not taken it in because I'm just in shock at how poorly the craftsmanship has become. At this point I just want my money back and start all over. Unfortunately I was denied access to view certain diamonds in the back unless I agreed to put a down payment deposit. They also told me that those diamonds were pricier than the ones on the main floor. I felt awkward at that point and I just was not ready to put down a deposit that day and felt pressured. You might read this and think I work for Shane Co! I don't; but I am such a huge fan. Nearly every piece of jewelry I own comes from this store, this location. My husband loves them because they're honest, friendly, and super helpful. Recently upgraded my diamond in the engagement ring for my birthday. What a terrific and fun experience! The person helping us was, as typical here, super knowledgeable and helpful. She was patient - this was an experience! We spent over an hour there debating different individual stones and she kept on bringing them out - saying, in effect, "We want you to find your perfect stone. If not today, then we'll keep trying!" Zero pressure sales - they let their quality and prices speak for themselves. If new car buying were this pleasant, I'd get one every year! Also, pretty sure everyone works on salary meaning they're all equally supportive and helpful. Another sales person wandered over and was helping me look and it was all just fun. Not like commission sales where there's this strange competition going on around you - the customer is the center of attention and their needs are the priorities. I also love their life-time guarantee and service. You can bring your Shane Co jewelry in any time for repairs, sizing, cleaning etc for free for the life of the piece. They fused my wedding and engagement bands together (they're unusually shaped and do better fused) and told me, "If you change your mind bring it back. we'll undo this. Anytime." I had my mom with me there one time to clean my ring and get it checked, and they offered to clean all of her jewelry - knowing she didn't purchase any of it there. Just the kind of place it is. And their selection really is unique and expansive. My ring is so different from the typical, and I get compliments on it all of the time! (Especially now with a new, bigger even more sparkly stone. Came back to buy our wedding bands and a cleaning for her engagement ring(they did it while we shopped). So far so good, we were treated kindly and respectfully by the staff. I am crazy about my ring, no trendy thin weak looking matte-black band to be seen here. She got the matching wedding band to her engagement ring, classy. They sized our rings perfectly and it only took a few days to do! I'm tellin ya, come here past 5 PM on a weekday, you will have the entire staff available to you. Nice selection but the prices are elevated which I assume is to buffer in their warranty... We came in to look at bands and were assisted by an associate who was very helpful and knowledgeable. A bummer about this place is they will not customize anything for you, so what you see is what you get, which is fine but for the prices I'd expect some sort of level of customization to be available. After taking all our information and saving the bands we liked, I was told I'd receive an email and it's been over a week now, still no email... weird. We would love to go back to get some bands from Shane Co. but after the lack of follow up (no email) and then looking a bit more online and comparing prices and seeing that I can get what I want (customized), we are not sure Shane co. Is the best route for us. Worth a visit though. Nice stuff. read more

My brother bought me a silver bangle with tiny black sapphire jewels. It wasn't very expensive, but the sentiment is priceless. I only wear jewelry that I never have to take off so I've worn it daily for a year. Finally a jewel popped out, got lost and I was devastated. I never believed those ads about warranty because I figured there would be strings attached. I didn't do the "required" 6 month cleaning either so I thought it'd be a "gotcha" for sure. To my utter surprise, when I called to see how I could pay to get the jewel replaced, the super nice rep said that it's covered and they would repair for free. What?!? My $200 bracelet? Overpriced Low quality diamonds & stones with lots of flaws on most of their items. The small selection of better quality diamonds are way overpriced. You get treated on how much you want to spend. If you want to spend less than what they want you to spend, you get crappy service. And yes they handpick the stones from all over the world, except they get the bargain low quality stones. I decided to check out Shane Co for an engagement ring because my brother had bought his ring there. When I went to the store in San Mateo we received excellent service from the sales associate, and we were shown a few diamonds and rings. I ended up picking one ring which We loved.... Together with the sales associate we plotted the structure of the ring and the birthmarks which I clearly remembered along with my girlfriend. Once I picked up the diamond, I noticed that the birthmarks were not the same and it had different inclusions. After going back and forth with various sales associates from Shane Co at San Mateo, I decided to just keep the ring and move on. That was until today! I proposed about about a week ago and one of the four prongs broke off today, thus leaving the diamond vulnerable to falling off and getting lost. Then, just imagine the havoc that I would have to go through to get this replaced. I don't even want to think about it after knowing for sure that the diamond I bought, which was not cheap, was not the one I received... Buying an engagement ring should be a fun experience and a memorable one. I do understand that intime something can happen to the ring or the stone, unfortunately, not just days after I have it to my girlfriend. I will not be going to the store in San Mateo to get this issue resolved. AND, I would highly encourage others to pursue their diamond shopping experience at another venue. read more

Came in on a rainy, Christmas Eve to pick up a small, last minute gift for my mother. I had visited the Shane Co in Walnut Creek the night prior in search of this specific pearl ring and had it set aside for pick up. Upon arrival, I was assisted by this older lady who went and got the ring from behind. Perhaps it was because I looked younger (college student) and I had to facetime my sister to confirm the ring details (since she was the one who chose the design and I was merely there to pay for it & pick it up), this lady seemed a bit impatient. I had asked if this particular design came in a different band; perhaps 18k White gold or 14k yellow gold, but it disappointedly only came in sterling silver and only a size 7. Because of this, the price of the ring was understandably lower than the others and the pearls were smaller, freshwater cultured pearls (which I understood to be cheaper and actually preferred, since it was only a Christmas present). However, this staff member (edit: name is "Kataneh M.") seemed to carry an arrogant attitude and belittled the ring when my friend asked about its price. To make matters worse, she also dropped the ring on the carpet and proceeded to walk to the cash register without apologizing or offering to clean it. Compared to the nice experience I had at the Walnut Creek location, this was a total 180. I'll be gladly returning the ring. read more

Friend inherited some Jewelry from her mom and wanted to have the diamonds tested. We got there around 4:30pm on a weekday. Not too busy. There were customers but also plenty of staff around. Tom greeted us right away. He was professional and very patient. He cleaned the jewelry and tested each of the rings and ear rings. I wasn't expecting this kind of customer service considering that we weren't there to buy anything. But great experience. Will definitely recommend this place. This place advertised a lot. I heard so much about it. It's always advertising on the radio. The appointment process was good. They take your temperature before you enter. The place was clean. All those= 3 stars. But then it went downhill. There were maybe 8 personnel working there and everyone was bored, without customers so just walking and waiting around. The guy who helped us was possibly new? He wasn't as forthcoming with information and we had to ask a bunch of questions in order for him to share info. Good thing I was with someone who had gotten married already and knew a bunch about rings. Also, it was uncomfortable bc this young guy (20s? Early 30s?) who was helping us kept being distracted by the other young coworker guys and they were smirk and laugh at whatever it was, but made it feel like it was us. The appointment was long and drawn out and we finally left bc it was becoming too uneventful. I would NOT come back and I would NOT RECOMMEND it to anyone who's ring shopping. Since my husband and I have been married a little over 2 years now we decided that we wanted (actually more needed) to replace our wedding bands as they are both now too big for us and a little worse for wear. We stopped by this store to have a look at what they had to offer and inquire about re sizing of my engagement ring also. We were greeted by Josh who was really friendly and helpful. He showed us a few designs and didn't try and pressure us into buying anything when we said we still have another couple of jewelers to look at. This made for a nice change as everywhere else we have been they have been very pushy. We were unsure as to if my engagement ring would be able to be sized down anymore as when I first got it and had to have it sized down we were told that it could only be sized a certain amount as any smaller it would become misshapen and the Diamonds pop out (I have tiny size 3 finger!) but after having it inspected we were told it would be fine so opted to have that done while we still decide on the bands. The sizing only took 2 days at a cost of $75 which was a great price and they also cleaned it for me as well. The shine on my ring is amazing and looks just like new! I only had it cleaned a week beforehand but the difference is unbelievable. I think they may have dipped it in Rhodium again while in the cleaning process for it to come out so shiny. The selection of rings is quite impressive and so well priced too. If you buy any ring from here they will clean it free of charge for you on a regular basis so it keeps your ring looking gorgeous. I strongly recommend coming here if you are looking for engagement ring / wedding bands or even just a sizing. read more
