The first time we went to Shane co., we were looking for engagement rings with Michael Gadd (best sales associate) who made our experience very memorable and fun. He focused on our needs and also worked with our budget. He had a great sense of humor and put his knowledge/two sense that would maximize our experience. I would say my shopping experience today was very uncomfortable to say the least. I went in looking for a present for my wife. I immediately didn't like the vibe and feel of this place. I was greeted, my temperature was taken and I was asked to wait. It took a while for a sales associate to be available to help me. When I was finally greeted, I explained what I was shopping for. Don't even waste your time or money. Apparently after 10 years of being a loyal customer it doesn't matter that they guarantee their jewelry for life, guess its just the life of the sales person who's there. There is no effort to actually assist the customer or make things right, just an attitude and effort to sell more pieces. I left the location today on the verge of tears with my ring still missing a stone and the "manager" telling me she didn't think my ring was even missing a stone because her sub-par jeweler told her he can't get one of their standard stones into the setting after he's applied a nice layer of rhodium. I didn't bring it in to get cleaned it needs a major repair!! Beyond speechless at how ridiculous this location has become. My fiancé hates all thing shopping. So, my daughter and I went to Shane and met the most wonderful salesperson, Reggie! He listened to what my budget was and what I wanted in my ring. THEN he found a setting that wasn't even on display! It was beautifu! but not quite right. Until he found a white sapphire stone (I don't like diamonds)that fit the setting. and still not quite right. we then turned the stone to a different orientation and it was perfection! 3 days for it to be set and ready! yaaayyy! Went to pick up my ring last night. The setting was wrong. I'll admit there were a few tears although my rational brain said mistakes happen and they will fix it. Delia went and spoke with the jeweler Buu and asked him to fix it last night! Buu came out and had it fixed in 30 minutes!!! (At 7:10 pm and store closes at 8) He was all smiles and heart hands! Wow! Customer experience here is more than phenomenal. Especially our favorite here- James! My fiancé got my wedding band and engagement ring here and I got his wedding band. When we came in the first time just looking around and wanting to get sized, James blew our minds with information we didn't even know we should be looking for. He spent over an hour with us and then, there was NO pressure to buy anything!! No uncomfortable gesturing towards my fiancé to buy, nothing! I absolutely loved that. They offered us water and chocolate while we got a very detailed lesson on diamonds. It was so much fun. Came in to upgrade the wife's wedding ring. To start we were greeted immediately and was met by an associate who helped us with our purchase. Wife already knew what she wanted so it made things easier as far selecting the wedding set a little more easier. We were trading in her current wedding band set for the new one and possibly purchasing and additional fashion ring. I have to admit the sales associate was very patient due to my wife's indecisive nature, we were able to pull several sets and even looked at a few stones to compare. Dealing with my wife can be a handful given her demands. Due to the intricate nature of our purchase, we had to double the price of our purchase due to the trade in which is pretty standard. Big plus is they match the trade in price of the stone without penalty and having to double the value for the purchase. As for their end the trade in was fairly seem less and patience displayed initially spot on, since the wife pulled out many wedding sets for her decision. They offer a jeweler on sight and can perform all tasks presented, from transferring stones to new sets or making easy repairs. To add to the already daunting task of pleasing my wife, she decided to choose a different set along with upgrading the stone even after we completed our initial purchase from the day before. We weren't provided the same associate so my wife dealt with a different person who she didn't felt was equally as patient from the day before, hence the three stars. I wasn't present since I was at work so I can't provide much details on the second encounter. Overall I was pretty satisfied and eager to see the end result. I have to admit my wife did put them through the ringer so I have to give credit where credit is due. We came here today looking for wedding bands. My guy wants a titanium ring but in a particular way. He has found nothing on the internet he likes and nothing at any jewelry store he likes better than the really expensive ring we saw in Oregon. Anyway, I dragged him here today since we are getting married in 21 days and he has a special ring size. The saleslady was fine. Since we were dressed in our Sunday schlub's, she didn't think we had money (especially since we were looking at $100 rings-Titanium is cheap). Anyway, when she saw my engagement ring, she changed her tune a bit and even offered to clean it for me. I always like having my ring cleaned-it looks so much better! Anyway, she and another guy worked really hard to see if a ring my guy liked "okay enough" could be shipped to us in his size in time for the wedding. Sadly because there was no way to guarantee that, we did not buy his ring here. We did however find a ring that I will use as my wedding band/second ring. I don't plan on wearing my engagement ring with another ring since I don't have enough finger to support it, but did want a ring that I could wear when we travel. This ring fit the bill perfectly, both in look, feel and price. The thing I didn't like was the standing in line in the back of the store to pay for our ring. My fiancee just bought my engagement ring from Shane Co. after a thorough co-ed search and shopping experience. My search included Helzberg, Zales, Jared, Kay, Tiffany's and two small jewelers. After comparing every element under-the-sun and even a purchase/return experience with Jared (which was painless), I am very happy with Shane Co. Here are my comparative notes and why we chose them. Price Shane Co doesn't have sales nor do they negotiate. I believe they also said they don't work on commission, but don't quote me on that. In any case, they showed immense motivation to find me a ring I wanted, but I didn't feel the sales pressure. On the flipside, with smaller jewelers, up-front cash talks and you can work a better deal depending on how their small business is doing. But when you consider they probably have a higher purchase cost, on average, the pros and cons cancel each other out and it's so much nicer not to negotiate. I much preferred the Shane shopping experience. And in the end, after days of comparison shopping, I found their prices to be on par with the best of the deals we found elsewhere. There is one place to be cautious, however. Their in-store prices are different from their online prices. Online tends to be cheaper. So while they don't negotiate, you can ask for the online sales price and see what they say. Warranty Best on average. Their warranty covers both the ring and the gold. Some places give you the former for free, but you have to purchase the latter. They do make you come in once every six months to have your ring checked out and keep the warranty, but that is standard for chain stores. One chain store was once per year, and one private jeweler said we didn't have to come in at all for the warranty. Certification Like many other jewelers, lots of the lower level diamonds are not certified. But unlike other jewelers, they have the non-certs appraised. So, you do know exactly what you're getting. At the places that do neither, be prepared to become your own certification expert using the dirty magnifying glass the sales guy keeps on his key chain. Not feeling confident about your gem certification skills? Me neither. So, go with a stone that is either certified or appraised. Returns Money-back guarantee for 60 days. That's right on par with the best out there. One big chain jeweler was 30 days. Upgrade I can upgrade any time (ahem, I mean my husband to be can upgrade my ring anytime) and pay the difference on "current value" of my stone. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I never saw that anywhere else. Most places only upgrade you if you are spending 50-100% more. And I didn't hear anybody say they give current value. Full purchase value, yes, but I didn't hear "current" anywhere else. Experience Super helpful sales associates. All credit to the sales girl for figuring out the right combination of mounting and stone at a balanced price. I love what I got and she deserves all the credit for making it work and exercising extreme patience as I shopped. I also had a special situation at purchase and they were wonderful in helping me resolve it. Kudos, kudos, kudos. Oh, one other happy point to mention. At first, I started talking to a guy. Once he heard a little about what I was looking for and what I wanted, he realized he wasn't the best person to help and brought the other girl out who was more of an expert in my area. Well, since she was the one who got me what I wanted, I'm grateful for that. I guess that's the advantage of a non-commissioned store. Only bummer was that they didn't have a microscope, only a magnifying glass. Nor did they have the cool scope that shows you the cut of the gem either. But nobody has it all. They also have jewelers on site, so the sizing, and mounting of my stone was complete in a few hours. I saw that as well at Jared, but nowhere else. Selection They had among the broadest selection of anywhere I shopped, including "The Galleria of Jewelry". However, they had a smaller selection of pre-completed rings. They have the stones and rings separate. Other jewelers have a wider selection of finished rings which is important if you don't know what you want. If you're new to this, I would advise you to shop elsewhere at the beginning, get a sense of what you want, then go to Shane's before you buy and see what they can do for you. Anyway, I'm a happy girl. (Be sure to independently confirm these policies before you buy. I am fallible (shhh...don't tell my fiancee, I mean he already knows I'm not perfect, but he doesn't know that I know it) and policies change over time. read more
