Located in the Korean Galleria Market 5 min bowl/ Shang Hai Ban Jum offers affordable comfort food the restaurant has ample seats. Although I wasn't sure of the name - peep the receipt pic. (Guess I'll post on both) Nonetheless the restaurant serves both Chinese and Korean food. Initially, my partner and I wanted a Chicken Teriyaki Dosirak and Crispy Mandoo but the gentleman taking my order said he didn't have either so I quickly made the decision of what would be similar - Chicken katsu and 2 Steamed Wang Mandoo. $19 out the door, the food was enough for 3 people - We ended up taking some Katsu and a whole Mandoo home! After my hair appointment at Theodora, I decided to finally try this place. I ordered the crispy mandoo and egg fried rice. It came with a side of jjamppong and danmuji, which I had never tried before. Service was quick and efficient. I got it to-go. The food was delicious. As I'm not Korean, I had to look up what jjamppong was. I am not crazy about seafood, but the soup base tasted great, pleasantly spicy. I won't eat any of the mystery seafood, but the veggies and base were good. read more

We just moved back to ktown, we loved Galleria Market so we came back. The restaurant smelled good and got closer. Great looking soups and bento boxes. We got jjamppong seafood soup and a bulgogi plate. The staff were nice and answered all my questions. Food is mediocre and the workers are rude af and border line scammers. We came with a group of 5 people and ordered well over 5 items (more like 8 between us 5). We wanted to Togo the left overs so we asked for some Togo boxes and when my coworker went up, she gave him 3 tiny soup Togo bowls and said that's all they had. Jampong, tangsooyuk and jajang myun are all delicious here. The crispy toothsome texture on the tangsooyuk is addictive. I appreciate the way they use a paper box for the tangsooyuk when it's ordered to go. Keeps it crisp! At other places, they box it in styrofoam which results in the styrofoam melting into the pork wHich is troubling from a health standpoint and potentially soggy by the time you get home. No gritty seafood in the jjampong either (ahem, zzamong). I wish they served kimchi and/or the raw onions but the only side is takuan aka danmuji yellow pickled radish. Portions are hearty. Prices are reasonable. Food court setting adjacent to the Zion Market. Plenty of parking. Very worth it! read more

I and my hubby have been regulars here for a long time. We've ordered from here every week. And then today... When we ordered Jjambbong, they brought us something that's totally inedible. The color of soup was not red but close to black. It's not like "ooh, hot and spicy korean food" but it was like "Y'all didn't appreciate life. Let's play a game" kinda torture to the tongue & stomach. When I called them, this lady who's far from kindness and professionalism picked up. She first said "Our food is originally that spicy, maybe you didn't know , ". Then she told me "I don't know what you can do with it, pour some water maybe? , , ". No apology or further explanation was made. My hubby called again and told her that we've been regulars for years, and we know how it used to taste so well. Then she changed her words and said "recipe has been changed recently ". Of course my hubby asked then why she didn't inform us that it's inedibly spicier than before, and she insisted her previous attitude of "Not my problemo". When my hubby told her that a preggo here couldn't even take one more sip and threw up, she told us to bring the food back if we don't want it. Still, no apology nor even a small gesture of "we'll make sure this won't happen again" kinda vibe. It's amazing how easy it is to lose regular customers. I don't know if she was having a bad day or she had a fight with her husband or whatever. The cook had to cook right and she had to be professional as well. I read Yelp reviews and I instantly roll my eyes back when people talk about how shitty the customer service is. Aren't we supposed to inform people about the food? Anyway, I live around and I come here to shop groceries at this market. But before we start our shopping, we always get a bowl of Jjajangmyun and a side of Sweet and Sour Pork or Shrimp. For the price itself, it's great. I love Jjajangmyun and it just brings warmth and joy. This dish can be described as a "fast food" for Koreans. It really is a quick bite and you move on with your journey. I had no problem with the Jjajangmyun - it is a noodle dish with Black Bean Sauce, vegetables and pork belly. The Sweet and Sour Shrimp has a kick, but it's quite delicious. Make sure you get some soy sauce to dip in. Mix your soy sauce with vinegar and some red pepper flakes. read more

I've been going to this place at least twice a week for many years for good Jjampong and Kunmandu but after the last visit, it's time that I stop. The food is good but the ladies who work there are unpleasantly rude. Every time I ask for things such as napkins, water, onion slices, they don't answer back and give me the "why are you bothering me" look. Every time!! Yesterday, as always, I asked her for the onion slices and she kinda three the container on the table and said it doesn't come with the order and I shouldn't be asking. If your into Jambbong you have to try this place. For those of you who don't know what Jambbong is; Jambbong is a spicy seafood noodle soup. The noodles are made right when you order so it's fresh out of the WOK!. NO MSG ADDED. So, your not thirsty as a water buffalo after your done. Taste is very clean and doesn't make you feel nasty when your belly is full. Not only the "ZZAMBBONG" (that's what they call it) is good, but it's pretty fun watching them put on a show cooking it right in front of you. Also if your coming with a friend or a group of friends, order the "TANGSUYOOK" (Deep fried pork) as a side. Its crispy and one of the best I've tasted in town. *DROOL* Just reviewing makes me want to go back. Somehow they have stopped serving Kal gook soo for a while, I missed their kal noodle so much for a long time. I was passing by today and found out the noodle's back!! Taste is even better than before. Every single noodle was all in different shape which proves that they actually hand cut the noodle. 3.5 stars. Shanghai Banjum is located in the "food court" of the Galleria supermarket on Vermont. Most dishes are about $7 and up... The Korean "sushi" rolls comes at $4.50 for a box. They are made on site. I'm a fan of their Zzajangmyung, which is served with a dark and thick bean sauce, with diced onions and julienned cucumber strips as garnish. There's a surcharge for take out. You order at the counter and wait for your number to be called and pick up your order to go or find a table. The kitchen is behind huge glass panes, so "if you're into watching"... it's all there. With the zzambong, I've seen that it's poured from the boiling pot straight into styrofoam to-go containers... and I'm not a fan of styrofoam in the first place, and less so about scalding liquids poured straight in and very likely letting the stryrofoam chemicals leech into the food. Sure, that's probably the norm while take out, whether it be styrofoam or plastic, but maybe there are alternatives, like bringing our own pots, etc... whatever works for you. Service is pretty friendly, considering that language and affect are often obstacles for servers at similar establishments. Incidentally, I first tried Shanghai Banjum because I got "bleh" service at the other vendor in the food court. Verdict: Shanghai Banjum is "A-OK", best to eat in, but they do take-out with a fee for some dishes. read more

Jjam-Bong (spicy noodle seafood soup) is very good. It is not heavy. It is spicy and light. Unlike the versions at other restaurants, the broth had plenty of cayenne and black pepper, which gave it a slight smoky flavor. I also loved the taste of the noodles. The spicy red noodle jjam bong was dressed in sliced onions and napa cabbage, which tasted nice and crisp. For foreignors, I would describe jjam-bong as paella soup, all the deliciousness of spicy paella dressed as noodle soup. read more

I have learned to enjoy the spicy seafood noodle and the crispy sweet and sour pork. I started having this at Hong Kong Banjum on Beverly in LA and fell in love with it. Comparing the two the noodles seem to taste the same to me but they have more seafood in the noodles here at Shanghai Banjum(Hong Kong banjum has more beef) but both tasty. The crispy pork on the other hand is not as tasty here, it might be because of the sauce im not too sure. I also tried their large fried dumplings which were okay. I would come back here for a quick lunch since it is right next door from my work it is convient and does satisfy the cravings. read more

I always order the zzambbong. It's nice and spicy, reminds me of shin. Definitely awesome on a cold winter night. The dish my family and I love here is the Zzambbong Soup which is a spicy soup that is just right for me it has a mixture of vegetables and octopus and Tangsuyook deep fried pork with a very good sauce! Jjambong is out of this world. Exquisite taste comes from excellent soup mixed with kimchi and thin sllice of pork. Tastes some what like kimchi stew. Price is another thing, about $3 lower than others which doesn't justify the quality and taste. Far land of Korea where jjb was developed wouldn't have this ingenius taste. read more
