six dumplings in a steamer basket
    Kathleen W.

I decided to swing by Aberdeen Center for lunch during a layover and we figured it would a good place for a nice snack. The xiao long bao was delicious and fully of broth! The skin was a little thick but other than that it was worth it. I'd get other food from here next time!

XLB, six to an order. Just left airport and decided on visiting the Aberdeen centre mall for some snacking. Want real real good food court food, come here for the XLB, saw a person making this from scratch, so that instantly sold me.

Get the steamed pork buns!! A shopping mall food court with made to order buns/dumplings?! They call them buns here (maybe cause they're huge) but they're basically soup dumplings/XLB. Much bigger than your regular soup dumplings, juicy and delicious. The skin is thick and cooked perfectly. You can see the chefs preparing them freshly made to order. I got the combo b, came with 6 'buns', a bowl of curry beef vermicelli noodle soup and a soda. The noodles were veryyyy underwhelming. Just tasted like water with salt and curry powder. The beef was good though and you can't go wrong with clear vermicelli noodles. I would come back here just for the buns. Worth the $7.

5 pan fried pork buns for $9.20. Very juicy Would recommend for a quick snack or to share.

One thing I love about the food courts in Richmond, they are all usually pretty good! I tried this one as it is a bit newer to me and located in Aberdeen Mall. The soup dumplings here were good and what's nice is that it comes out quick! One thing about these dumplings is that the outer shell is a bit thicker fan what I'm used too, but never less gave me the soup dumpling craving satisfaction.

WOW! I would give 10 stars if I could. We passed by for an afternoon snack after shopping and didn't expect the buns to be that amazing. The buns were freshly fried so the top was warm and soft while the bottom was perfectly crisp. What really stood out was their juicyness, there was soup coming out of each bite.

Visited: Apr 25 2019 This is a relatively new food court stall at Aberdeen centre. I saw a lot of patrons were eating their Xiaolongbao (XLBs) and pan fried pork buns or shengjian bao (生煎包) and figured they must be good. I ordered the combo with the curry beef vermicelli with the pan fried pork buns (5). I have to say the pan fried pork buns pleasantly surprised me! They are just a notch below the best that I've had in Vancouver (which is Top Shanghai on Ackroyd Road IMHO). The pastry was tasty and the bottom is perfectly crispy. There weren't a lot of soup inside but at least there were some. The pork filling was good, albeit small compared to the size of the bun. The curry beef vermicelli soup was just okay, a little bit bland and underwhelming. I am actually quite impressed with shengjian bao so I will definitely try their XLBs next time for comparison. Ordered: Curry beef vermicelli + pan fried pork buns combo with can of pop - $13 (ish)

Best shanghai food court food ever. It's authentic!!!. I should know I'm shanghainese and this taste like what it would taste like at home.

Located in Aberdeen Centre food court, this is a solid option for some xiao long bao aka soup dumplings. Dumplings had a good amount of soup, and the dumpling skin was the perfect thickness to contain the soup without breaking. Pork filling was seasoned well. Service was fast.

Really convenient and delicious Shanghai style buns and other dishes. So far I've had the pan fried pork dumplings- favorite. They are very juicy so be careful when consuming. The soy sauce duck is pretty good too. One of my favorite stalls in the food court

Newly opened in Aberdeen Center food court, and we tried their "pan fried pork steamed buns". Unfortunately it was the worst that we've ever tasted. There were close to no soup inside the bun (1/3 tea spoon of soup maybe), and the bottom of the buns were all burned!! See one of the picture "Burned" pan fried pork steam buns.

May be it's because we are all in "food coma" by the end of dinner! This visit was for dinner - and we were outside the door waiting even before they opened at 5:30. On a Tuesday. And we were already second in line. Celebrating a birthday, we had cold jellyfish starter, lobster fried e-fu mein, braised pomelo skin with seafood, and beef fried kai lan. The lobster was perfectly cooked. Even slight over-cooking can make the lobster meat tough. However, every piece was perfectly cooked. Including the large claws. Cooked with ginger and scallions, the lobster gravy coated each strand of e-fu noodles to umami yumminess. The braised pomelo skin was a special seasonal dish. I have not had this dish in many decades, and when I saw this in the special seasonal menu, I had to get it. The bittersweet braised pomelo skin complemented perfectly the fresh seafood, and topped a bed of Chinese spinach. It was the first time for the other members of my family and they literally sucked it all down. The beef with kai lan was another standout. Beef slices were tender and delicious and that perfectly complemented the well seared gai lan - great evidence of wok hei. Service is exemplary. Not just for a Chinese restaurant, but for any restaurant. The servers are constantly on the alert, and Everytime they see a plate filled with lobster shells, they would whip it away and replace it with a clean plate. They made sure that tea cups were filled and kept us updated with the delivery of the next dish. And at the end of the meal, dessert (Tong Shui) was complimentary... and they added a wonderfully light and flaky walnut cookie and piece of mochi for each of us.

Hei Hei Rice Roll is legit good, totally recommend, even my daughter too, I thought of her ( since she LOVES rice roll and couldn't make it on this trip with me) while enjoying these roll but when I shared with her the photos and mention that we will go back here with her- she already visited. She said it was so good! Hei Hei Rice Roll is located at the Richmond Public Market, oh wow - this place is really popular, on the 2nd visit I was the first in line then the line wasn't so long but while waiting for our order, the line got super long. I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.

The live seafood tanks had some impressive looking seafood, including giant hairy crabs. They had lots of live seafood specials, and we went for the lobster (3 lb). You can pick the preparation - I wanted the bifengtang style, but it's a little spicy, and we had the kids, so we did classic ginger scallion. You can add noodles or rice, and we went with fried rice. There are also optional add on sauces: truffle or salted egg yolk. The rice was so good and was a very generous portion. The lobster was also cooked perfectly. We also got a scallop, morel, asparagus stir fry, which was a nice and light dish, also generously portioned. They were really nice to the kids and gave them some extra paper to draw on. We also finished with red bean soup and warm lava buns with runny salted egg yolk - so good. We made a reservation last Sunday and when I arrived, the restaurant was packed. Parking in this location is absolutely horrendous on a weekend so please arrive early to find parking! We ordered a variety of dishes to share and most of them arrived promptly. However, I felt a bit disappointed as most of the dishes seemed to be less flavourful than other places I've been to. The fried tofu wasn't seasoned very much and the congee didn't even have any green onion garnish or pepper/salt given on the side. The bean curd dish was weak as the bean curd on the outside seemed to be overcooked or not wrapped as tightly so it was peeling off in the dish (no pic as it arrived late to the table!). For the siu mai, I felt like the size and texture was not as good as my usual place. I did like the oval shaped egg tarts as they weren't too sweet and very fragrant as well as the rice roll with delicious smooth beef filling inside. Service was overall prompt and standard. However, I likely won't return especially knowing how hard it is to park in this plaza.

We waited approximately 25 minutes which is not bad at all considering how popular this small restaurant is. My mom is vegetarian and my girls had a wonton noodle soup lunch at another spot down the street. The meats were juicy, tender, and flavorful. My girls are usually indifferent to Cantonese barbecued meats but they tried it and enjoyed everything as well. They ran out of duck but do not fret because the soya chicken is where it's at. The soya chicken is incredibly tender, even the breast meat is tender. Secondly, it's perfectly marinated and if you dab a little of their homemade soy sauce, it's even better. Eat this with rice and you'll never want another meal in your life. This was easily our favorite dish for the place. Bbq pork and crispy pork are both spot on as well. They give generous and juicy cuts and the crispy pork is, well, crispy. The skin is a nice crunch and the meat is juicy, what more could you ask for? I still salivate and dream of the meat here and I wish we had something like this back in LA cause I don't know who else would make soy chicken as good as here. Cash only so come prepared!
