This is a pretty good Chinese take out spot. Everything is pretty good, the portions are generous, and the prices are great. I always get the lunch specials which end up costing like $7 and you get a good amount of an entree over rice and a soup or soda. The place is VERY clean and the lady that takes your order is really nice. read more

Being from Hawaii I can say that so far this place is the closest to home style Chinese food I've had in Mahattan. They tell you they do not add MSG to the food so that's always a plus. what is called Chow Fun in Hawai'i, they call Ho fun, they are wide noodles. I love the house special Ho fun. char siu in Hawaii, is called roast pork here, which it is, but it's the red coloring of the sauce that makes it char siu pork I think. I love the orange chicken and the roast pork ribs. clean, nice service and lots of food. the cold noodles are to die for, cold spaghetti type noodles in a peanut sauce with tomatoes. my favorite neighborhood take out or delivery chinese restaurant. they have an A letter grade so that is always a good sign for food protection. Try it out, lots of for little money. read more

A rating Chinese Take Out with a good taste. How rare!

Subpar Chinese food that was okay in the past but the last order that I received was terrible. The food was SOGGY! Had to pickup my order in person as the delivery people conduct a shakedown to get double the tip before giving you the food. read more

Disgusting, disgusting, disgusting! Did I mention the food was disgusting? After a 45 minute wait, the food was finally delivered. Pork dumplings were in a container with grease and absolutely inedible. Very thick dumpling and gross filling. The pepper steak with tomato had no flavor to it. All in all, one of the worst meals I've had. read more

This place is amazing. The food is always delicious and the staff is very nice. They always get the order right. They have the best wonton soup! read more

Hunan chicken was yummy. Egg roll tasted like cardboard. White rice was overcooked.

My go-to for yummy, super-cheap lunch specials. And they're super-friendly to boot. Their combination of serving pork-fried rice with their lunch specials, and throwing in a free soda for orders over $10 can't be beat! read more

Good, quick, cheap Chinese food. Extra points for the nice workers... The female worker who takes the orders is always smiling and in a great mood! read more

I ordered food last night and got really sick with E. coli ... when I called to tell them they hung up on me... DO NOT EAT THIS FOOD, horrible and dangerous!! read more

One case where crowd rating doesn't work. Maybe previous raters were high when they ate the food from here. Ordered 5 dishes during lunch for delivery. Below is summary of experience: FOOD - negative 5 stars - the main draw of any eating establishment - terrible. Vegetables are just OK, not fresh. Flavorless. Beef and eggplant tasted boiled with a goop of sauce plopped on top as an afterthought. Disgusting. Chicken lo-mein tasted like greasy sandpaper. Sesame chicken - oily and soggy with dry rice and boiled broccoli that even a public school cafeteria can better serve. Beef with sugar-snap peas was rancid. HYGIENE - negative 5 stars - old spoiled and tainted ingredients. Made everyone who ate that day sick with diarrhea. Nothing like a good ol' diarrhea train. DELIVERY TIME - 0 stars - took 45 minutes for 9 block trip - not bad, not great SERVICE - negative 2 stars - overcharged us by one dish, gave us one less soda. Missing soda, not a big deal, who cares? But overcharging? Give them the benefit of doubt. Maybe a mistake. They were good about refunding the money - the delivery guy showed up 2 hours later with the difference in cash. CONCLUSION - if you want terrible, not that cheap, make-you-shit-your-pants-literally kind of food, with excellent service on the phone, then this is your go-to place. I'm definitely not straying from our Chinese UES mainstays: Grand Sichuan and Land of Plenty ever again. Thought I would try something not Sichuanese and maybe a few dollars cheaper but paid a heavy price for it. Never again. Some Yelp reviews are just not reliable. Eat or order from here at your own risk. read more

Best Asian food in the city, at least among those I've tried. The staff is incredibly friendly, they have a wide selection, and they have a lunch special until 4 PM each day. With that, you get plenty of food with rice and broccoli for under $8! Even outside of the lunch special, the prices are completely reasonable for the location and amount of food you get. My favourites are definitely the sesame chicken and for an appetizer, I like the crab meat rangoons! I've heard the dumplings are also really good! Don't expect a fine dining experience; it's mostly a takeout place with a few tables inside to stay that customers even used to share pre-pandemic. But this restaurant is excellent! It's about a half a block from my school, and students that I have talked to share my sentiment and go back often. If you're in the area, this is an excellent option for a cheap and completely filing meal! read more

I have been ordering from here for years and they always provide consistent quality food. The employees are usually very friendly and the wait time for both serving and delivering is great ! read more

Fave place to order from. Great food, fast delivery, never had an issue with it. Personally I love the orange chicken, white rice, chicken lo main, and crab rangoons. All of it is delicious. read more

Great food in a nice atmosphere -- a rarity in NYC Chinese food. The service could have been a little friendlier, and I think fortune cookies need to be standard (we Americans expect such things). However, the food was tasty, and the family atmosphere was great for a bigger family dinner. read more

We ordered from Shanghai at the recommendation of my 15 yr old son tonight. The edamame we ordered had flies in it. Needless to say it ruined the rest of our dishes that we ordered. read more

Good, cheap American-style Chinese food.. and friendly service, too! Try the chicken lo mein and spare ribs.

Generous portions, quick service and gets the job done for tasty, cheap Chinese food.

This is my go-to-delivery Chinese spot. They have fast delivery, staff are super courteous, provide big portions, and food is delicious.

The food is good, large variety to chose from. The ladies at the cash register are very sweet and welcoming. The delivery guys are very nice and always on time. Unfortunately the subway construction is very obstructive when I eat at the restaurant but other than that, they are great. read more

Inexpensive Chinese takeout. Never ordered anything I didn't like. Quick delivery. Has been my go-to spot for many years now.

Food was really good but service was extremely bad. When I called the lady was extremely unprofessional. She made me wait on the phone while she talked to other employees several times. I felt like I had to repeat myself a lot. When the food finally came they forgot 3 things from our order. When I called back she wasn't apologetic she just said ok and sent the man back over. No fortune cookies or anything to make up for their mistake. Very disappointed in their service but food definitely was good. read more

This is my favorite place for Chinese take out in the city! Love their sesame tofu....and my meat eating boyfriend does too! Good prices, large portions, and freebies make this my go to place! read more

For lazy days its always Shanghai! Love the hot n sour soup the food is great! And the prices very fair:) in a good client I always take food after doing my Sundays loundry:) read more

Price is fair and food is good. I typically order the lunch special which is only 7 dollars and change and comes with a free soda. You get a lot for the price so if you're hungry and want to load up on food, order in (you get more when you order in). Can be crowded (no seating) at times. Very friendly staff and prompt and efficient service. I recommend this as a Chinese spot along with Tang's Garden. read more

Good food at affordable pricing. Fast delivery when you call , even on the weekend evening read more

Shanghai - Chinese Near Me - New York, New York

The upsides: cheap, fast, reliable. That said, don't be super cheap by ordering the lunch special. It's an array of similar looking, similar tasting, celery-and-carrots filed plates. Acceptable only to the very basic Chinese cuisine amateur palette. The house ice-tea is so sweet, I'd thought they made it from the Nestea powders. However, for a still simplified palette, go for the 5$ steamed pork dumplings with the thick skin (just like from my favorite childhood Chinese takeout), a shrimp egg roll and some greasy house lo mein. Will it clog your arteries? Yes. But that's what all childhood favorites do. read more

Tried this out on a whim. Great service, the woman at the front was very nice. Food was good and fast.

Service was friendly, price for lunch specials ($5.95) was a great value, portions were generous and the flavor spot on. They even accommodated my request for steamed tofu (vs. fried) at no premium. We will eat there again although take out is preferred as there are only 3 booths and with the kitchen open to the dining area ... the aromas and the heat was a bit stifling. read more

Large portions of your typical neighborhood chinese takeout. They are awfully nice though and make your food as you request it: no sugar, No oil, etc. cheap and satisfying. read more

Shanghai is my default Chinese takeout place in the UES. Their food is consistently good. Sesame chicken, lo mein, beef/chicken with mixed vegetables, and pepper steak with onion are my favorites. Their lunch deals are awesome. Staff are polite and delivery is fast! read more

My Order - Pork fried dumplings and chicken & broccoli combo Pros- Really liked the dumplings. Combo plate was good. Cheap, Fast, Clean looking Cons- The eggroll was not worth trying. Overall - Will definitely order from here again and will recommend to friends. read more

Amazing Chinese food! I have been looking for somewhere like this for a while and I finally found a place that I like. I got so much food compared to what I paid for. I would highly recommend coming hungry as you dont want to feel bad wasting what you buy. The staff was super friendly as well which is always a plus. read more

a typical americanize chinese fast food joint that has basic chinese take out food via 2nd ave on 73rd st. the place is small and narrow with a few tables if you decide to eat in with the typical interior with the menu boards showing the assorted dishes . large paper menu thats simple to read and understand from egg rolls , wonton soup , spare ribs , chicken , pork ,beef, shrimp , veggie dishes , etc . prices are not that bad and portions are more then average . a large wonton soup and steamed chicken with mixed veggies which is void of all the heavy sweet addictive sauces but less calories and fat equals smarter eating habits . when i got to my crib the food was still hot and the containers did not spill which is always a good thing .overall food is good as it did not blow me away but was good enough for a future visit for take out when i happen to be in the area .next time i will skip the healthy menu section and go heavy . read more

My new go to restaurant for Chinese delivery. They have the best pork fried rice anywhere in the neighborhood. The Szechuan Shrimp is great. Tonight had the Singapore Mei Fun, with lots of ingredients and the Hot and Sour soup, both terrific. Dumpling a little on the tough and doughy side. Very pleased with the quick delivery and the quality forks and spoons. read more

Delivery-only review: What is not to like? Food arrives fast and HOT. Free sodas depending on what you order. Great quality, not oily, no MSG, cooked well. Great attitude of delivery folks and phone receptionist. I love the scallion pancakes, but also love everything else. Reasonable prices. No complaints, even delivery has been consistently fast. Keep up the good work, well-done! I love this place: it's Chinese-American, not real Chinese food, but if every restaurant takeout could be this good, we would all be only be ordering take-out. read more

Was a very pleasant surprise. Excellent food, larger portions at lower prices than many other peers on the Upper East Side. Quick delivery. crab meat rangoon, sweet and sour shrimp, boneless spare ribs, shrimp and lobster sauce dishes all significantly larger at less price were wonderful. read more

Found this place by accident, while looking for its evil doppelganger, two blocks away, Beijing Wok (which has really gone downhill while prices got too high). Very good cold sesame noodles, ribs, wings, and all the entrees I've had so far have been very good. Prices are good and service is friendly and delivery is fast. Just wish they didn't put so much soy sauce in the fried rice. Great combos and lunch combos too. I'll say good for groups since there are about a dozen chairs at 3 tables. read more

I think the food here is good, as far as "fast food" take out goes. As other reviewers have said, this is a little hole in the wall joint so I don't expect some high end customer service. But the woman who takes the orders ALWAYS makes mistakes & gets my address or order wrong & then is very rude about it. Tonight I waited 1.5 hours for my food (I live only about 5 blocks away) & when the order came it was wrong... AGAIN. When I called & told the woman I was frustrated with how long I waited for the food & that it had some incorrect items she was rude, then said "so I'll send" & hung up on me. Note to Shanghai management, when you screw up an order, especially in a city where there are many similar restaurants in the area & people have choices, maybe you should offer the customer an apology & a soda or something for their trouble instead of acting like a baby & hanging up. Order at your own risk here. The delivery guy is lovely, the food is good but I'm kind of over this place. Not worth the aggravation. There are so many other yummy Chinese restaurants in this area where they pay attention to what you order & treat the customers with some sort of interest. Management you should fire that stupid woman! She makes you look bad! read more

Came here for lunch over the weekend. Ok food - average...
