take-out; pork fried with with gravel

Don't do it. Used to be my go to American-Chinese spot. A couple months ago, found a piece of gravel or cement in my rice. My R side molars have not felt the same since.

A local American Chinese food spot that is take out only. The decor is pretty plain. The guy running the front is always really nice and quick with service. Portion sizes are good for a place that runs under $10 for an entree, and you get a choice of fries vs. rice vs. fried rice. Since I was feeling a little sick recently, also decided to get the soup--which was actually much better than I thought it would be. It was a good amount of eggs in some nice light chicken broth, just salty enough to hit the spot. I think it depends on the day you go, but today the quality of the food was pretty good. The chicken had a nice bite and flavor to it, and the fried rice, which can be hit-or-miss, is usually made in bulk at the beginning of the day, kept in the rice cooker, and heated in the wok per order.

Chicken with String Beans Lunch Special with Pork Fried Rice ($6.50)

TLDR: cheapest decent-tasting Chinese takeout option in the neighborhood As someone who was raised in a Chinese family, let me start off by saying that I typically abhor Chinese-American food. It always end up being either: A) doused in oil B) salty enough to cure meat in C) cloyingly sweet D) any combination of the above three Accordingly, I don't really have high standards when I get Chinese takeout- all I really expect is to not have to pay an arm & leg, alongside being filled up without my stomach complaining. I got the Chicken w. String Beans Pork Fried Rice Lunch Special today, and it was 'decent'. It certainly didn't blow my mind away, nor did it fall below my admittedly low expectations. At least for my meal, Yummy City gave out big portions, and they certainly don't skip out on the protein. What separates Yummy City from other Chinese takeout options in the UES and East Harlem however is two things: 1. Price. Their lunch menu is still somehow mostly under $7.00, while all the other Chinese takeout restaurants in the surrounding locale have raised their menus at or above that price-point. 2. Service. The guy working at the counter is a gem- he's somehow fluent in English and Mandarin and possibly Cantonese/Fujianese. There's zero language barrier unlike at many other takeout places, plus the food comes out within five minutes and they make it in front of you. Verdict: don't expect to be amazed, but take it from a Chinese person, it's the best of the lot

Compared to other American Chinese style takeout restaurants Yummy City is probably one of the best in the city. They do a tremendous volume for a 2 person husband and wife operation across from an MTA bus depot and the heavy foot traffic of Lexington Ave. The ingredients are fresh and the cook is friendly; always willing to accommodate reasonable requests and adjusts level of seasoning/sauce based on request. Get takeout and go to Central Park.

General tso's chicken - not spicy nor tasty enough. Seemed more like sesame chicken

I had high hopes from all the reviews but unfortunately it came up short in the basic Chinese take out food that imo should be foolproof. Sadly the chicken and eggplant with garlic sauce wasn't available due to the snowstorm. The general tso's chicken was bland and the lo mein tasted like old oil and overused wok. Crab rangoons and broccoli with garlic sauce were pretty good. Young chow fried rice was above average compared to other take out places. They gave us 3 free soda cans though, which was nice! If this weren't around the corner from me I wouldn't come back here. Seems like a really popular spot though so maybe I'm ordering the wrong things?

Chicken and eggplant with garlic sauce

Cheap, decent Chinese takeout place that is good for lunch. The owner is friendly and accommodates requests. I ordered chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce since so it was in all the reviews. Isn't on the menu but he was willing to make it. The garlic sauce wasn't very garlicky and it was a bit sweet, but it was still good. There was a lot more eggplant than chicken. There was enough for two meals. Cash only.

Got off the E train and when we looked for Chinese food, this place popped up with good reviews and it was just a short walk from where we got off the train. My buddies ordered the special lunches and we also got two types of xlb's, beef chow fun, and some fried dumplings. The special lunches come with a little fried rice, cold garlic flavored noodle, choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, and main side. My buddies all enjoyed their meals. The beef chow fun was also really good and beef was nice and tender. The xiao long baos were excellent and is comparable to any place in California like DTF. Nice and juicy and great with some ginger, soy sauce, and spicy chili. Friendly service and food comes out pretty quickly. Credit card is accepted. Bathroom was also very clean, which is sometimes rare in some Chinese restaurants I have been to. If you're looking for a good Chinese meal, stop here when you're in the Chelsea area.

"How 'bout there?" he responded pointing to Excellent Dumpling House. It was directly across the street. I pulled up Yelp, saw good reviews and readily agreed. At 3:30, the restaurant was empty. There were a few takeout orders, but we were the only people sitting down for late lunch. And y'know ... it was pretty good. Wonton soup is what I'd expect in Chinatown. Wonton wrappers were thin -- my preference -- the stuffing delicious and the broth flavorful. They were generous with the beef in our chow fun. Good, but the noodles needed a jolt. So I asked for soy sauce which was sort of a solution. Shrimp with vegetables was great. A lot of shrimp, too. There are lunchtime specials on weekdays, reasonable prices, and nice people work there. Next time it makes sense to try dumplings since it is, after all a dumpling house.

Located within the historic Chelsea Market building--a former Nabisco factory where Oreo cookies were first produced--the restaurant feels theatrical in the best possible way. The soaring ceilings, dramatic lighting, and energetic atmosphere create a sense of occasion from the moment you walk in. It feels less like simply going out to dinner and more like stepping into a beautifully staged production. I started with a Botanist Gin Martini with a twist, which paired wonderfully with the meal. The surprise star of the evening was the new Cucumber Tiger Salad. The balance of flavors was exceptional: bright acidity, a pleasant touch of heat, and just enough mint to make each bite feel fresh and exciting. Every so often the mint would come through and suddenly all the flavors would click together in a way that made me immediately want another bite. This is a dish I would happily order again. Next came the Edamame Dumplings. They were delicate and comforting, especially when enjoyed with the accompanying broth. The broth adds depth and richness that elevates the entire dish. My only suggestion would be the slightest touch more salt, perhaps even a finishing sprinkle of black volcanic salt for both flavor and presentation. I also found myself wishing there were a bit more of that delicious broth because it contributes so much to the overall experience. For my entrée, I ordered the Glazed Alaskan Black Cod, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation. The fish was rich, buttery, and perfectly prepared. What impressed me most was how thoughtfully the accompaniments were composed. The pickled cucumbers brought brightness, acidity, and crunch, while the black bean and eggplant relish delivered deep savory notes and unexpected complexity. I'm generally not an eggplant fan, but this relish was outstanding. The cucumbers and relish sit at opposite ends of the flavor spectrum, yet both somehow make the cod even better. Looking back, I think a glass of Sauvignon Blanc alongside the cod would have been the perfect pairing. I finished with the Miso Caramel Milk Bar, which was spectacular. Decadent, sweet, salty, and touched with just enough umami to keep every bite interesting. The chocolate crumble underneath added a wonderful crunch that contrasted beautifully with the creamy ice cream and luscious caramel sauce. Every component worked together perfectly, creating a dessert that was both indulgent and sophisticated. From start to finish, the meal felt polished, thoughtful, and memorable. Thank you!
