This a Chinese owned restaurant (this area has a lot of Korean owned ones). The soup dumplings have skin on the thicker side, which I personally do not mind. You can actually taste the crab in the crab dumplings. The bean curd skin dish was a bit bland. The beef noodle soup was alright but had a good heat to it. There wasn't that much meat. Came here with my life group for some soup dumplings but ended up getting a lot of other dishes as well. My main thing was the soup dumplings but honestly (although they have a really good deal), wasn't the best I've had (but that's also because I've had authentic soup dumpling from Shanghai where they originated LOL). Anyways, seating is a bit tight and crammed but the service is pretty good and fast. We ordered a lot but I felt as though not everyone got to eat as much as the price (I think I paid over $20 but I literally only had maybe one thing of soup dumplings). So I don't think this place is good for groups if you do family style (just order what you want instead). The soup dumplings are reliably tasty. The dumpling itself is a little tough, but the soup is delicious and the meat is tender. I also really enjoyed the Shanghai noodles with beef. Thick noodles, with a light brown sauce and tender beef. The email was very filling, and the price is great. Outdoor COVID dining: The best set up I've been to. You each get your own individual tent (thought it's seated for four people). There's a window in each tent so you don't feel claustrophobic and there's a heater!! Much needed as the weather gets cold. I really liked everything I ordered. I HIGHLY recommend the chili clams. It's perfectly crispy, and the seasonings they fry with the clams are so fragrant. I loved the green onions. The Xiao long bao's soup was flavorful and savory, with a rich mouthfeel. I liked the crab and pork one. The skin had a bite to it, but was strong enough to hold the soup when you pick it up. With the vinegar, it's really great! Their udon is one of the BEST I ever had. It's so chewy and the sauce they use with the udon is light but still flavorful. I got it with seafood, and it paired well. Their Dan Dan mian which is also really chewy. Their noodles all have amazing texture. It came with fragrant preserved vegetables that gives Dan Dan noodles it's distinct flavor. The dumplings with chili oil and sesame sauce - creamy and spicy. Also ordered the fried Sichuan shrimp, it had the same seasonings as the clam - also yummy but a little salty (I like the clams more). Service was great. Had to stop by when I saw the words "shanghai" while passing Main St. I've long been a bit of a xiaolongbao connoisseur and unfortunately, there aren't too many authentic spots serving XLB in north jersey. Ordered crab & pork xlb and scallion pancake to start off and we were served hot loose leaf chinese green tea. The apps arrived soon after and they were very good: XLB: Right off the bat, XLBs were on napa cabbage leaves and had wonderfully delicate, thin skin, both of which were a good sign. They were full of crab flavor & had nice broth that were just right - not too greasy like that from Petit Soo Chow in Cliffside Park. They also had fresh ginger in the black vinegar dipping sauce. Scallion pancake: Nice and thin, crispy and just yummy! They also give you this little thing of Chinese cucumber pickle that was one of the best I've had - sufficiently salty with full flavor. For main dish, I found that though Shanghainese, the restaurant had many great Sichuan items such as the cold tripe app and the hotpot. So we ordered the sichuan spicy hotpot (dry) with two bowls of rice. Honestly was surprised to find this rare "hotpot" in the US as mostly we think of the soup hotpot. Anyway, when it arrived, it was perfectly seasoned, with enough fire from the sichuan dried red peppers and the numbing peppers (which were graciously taken out before dish was served). Dish had many ingredients such as bokchoy, onion, beef, tripe, shrimp, mussels, woodears, beancurd puffs, etc. My mom commented that it would've been nice to have napa cabbages in there and I would've liked to see at least two varieties of mushrooms and fuzhu (dried beancurd stick). Though quantity was 10% on the lighter side, for its price in the teens, I thought it was fair. Place is straight forward - small but bright and clean, with good service. Also interesting to note is that they have taken the time to cater to Fort Lee's high Korean population by having everything translated in Korean in the menu. Smart move to bring Korean clientele as they are increasingly becoming more interested in diverse authentic Chinese cuisines. Overall, I am happy to find a good alternative for PSC and I will be back again! read more

It's safe to say that this restaurant is going to be my new favorite spot! My dad and I are huge foodies and love dumplings. We decided to check this spot out and it blew our minds away. Flush with a zen-like vibe on a Sunday morning, this modest Shanghai style eatery with on site parking, off the beaten path in Fort Lee, serves some funky and authentic food - and great complimentary oolong tea - at bargain pricing. We went for Sunday morning brunch and shared 6 of their dumpling offerings, sliced cold pork ears, spicy beef and tripe, scallion pancake with beef, kung pao chicken, sautéed pea shoots, breakfast wonton soup, and lots of tea. Our tab for 4 was just under 60 bucks - a bargain in my book considering the quality and quantity of the food. The cold pig ears were nicely cartilaginous and chewy, seasoned with hints of red chili, star anise, sesame and soy. Served first, with tea, this was an auspicious beginning. Even our fussy 8 year old ate some ears -- a ringing endorsement! The crab/pork soup dumplings were the best of the varieties we tried -- even though the dough used for all dumplings was a bit too thick (Petit Soo Chow does a much thinner dough) but the stuffing was excellent - among the best I have tried. And if you are curious about how they make these puppies, you can watch a video loop of the process on a tv monitor that hangs just outside the kitchen (they fold each one between 25 and 30 times -- we counted). The other dumplings were just ok - I would order the shanghai shao mai again -- very unique flavor -- the filling is drier and saltier than the others. The spicy tripe and beef was my favorite -- silky, with good heat and crunch, salt and sweet and some sour on the back end. Umami city! They gave our boys awesome haircuts for cheap. A winning combo for us for Sunday brunch - and now two reasons to be back, say once a month? I wouldn't go here again for soup dumplings or any of the dumplings....but man do they have it right for the sichuan dishes. The soup dumpling is hot and very juicy ( as it's supposed to be). Ordered crab meat & pork bun dumplings ( 6 for $7.95) and regular pork bun (6 for $6.95), both of them are good! If I really have to pick 1 thing that I hope they can improve, it's probably that they could put a bit more meat in their bun. Also,I would recommend you just go for the regular pork bun to save $1 because you probably won't feel the differences. The wonton soup noodle I had tonight is really good too, the soup is tasty, the wonton and the noodle are all cooked to the perfect, the wonton skin is so soft and tender, it's a bowl of delight. I ordered dry bean curd as appetizer, the dish came out nothing look like the picture on the menu, the bean curd on the picture is thin sliced bean curd but the one they served you is wide bean curd( I have never seen this at other places ). Ordered takeout on Saturday night 2/27, The cook working that night must've been heavy handed with the SALT because every time I took a bite my tongue was ATTACKED WITH SALT instead of flavor. I ordered the double cooked pork and ma po's tofu that come with sides of rice--UNBEARABLY SALTY, and I like salty food. Our tongues were SALT BURNED instead of spice burned, I promise I'm not exaggerating. I'm super bummed because I've been craving delicious mapo tofu and if it weren't for the heavy-handed salt cook(s) that night then this would be my favorite. I think the ground pork in the dish was saltier than the tofu so I had to eat around it but still couldn't finish it, it was TOO MUCH SALT (or msg, and I love msg but it was TOOOO MUUUUUCH). I was excited to try other menu items too but I think I have to let this one go to not risk wasting money and eating too much sodium. I can't wait to try the plain pork ones which I'm sure are just as yummy. That broth was absolutely everything. Then, we had some pan fried dumplings which were also out of this world - so crispy and flavorful. I especially love all of their homemade side sauces. Next, we had dumplings in spicy sauce which tasted exactly like Dan Dan noodles (which I also love). Finally, we finished up with some scallion pancakes (yum) and a dish of chili fried chicken with Sichuan peppers ... which you shouldn't order unless you're prepared for some SERIOUS heat. I was able to squeeze in at a table & ordered a scallion pancake & 1 order of crab & pork soup dumpling. There is also a plain pork soup dumpling but I think the seafood mix is more flavorful, yet try both! Pretty disappointed with the scallion pancake, super toasty but very oily. Was hoping for the plum sauce but it doesn't come with it but a hot oil dipping. Won't order that here again. It probably takes about a patient 15mins for a soup dumpling order to be served. You'll see it's their prized possession at this restaurant with a tv video showing their homemaking process of soup dumplings. These cute little xiao long bao buns are steaming delish, soupy & flavor packed. A must see! Came here on a Sunday night. This place was really packed. They have reserved parking in the back and it was completely full. I had to pull out my car and get street parking. There is actually two entrance into the restraint, the back where there are reserved parking or front where there are street parking. This place isn't that big so when it gets busy it would be hard to get a table. Good thing it was just me and my wife and we were able to get seated right away. We get our usually soup dumplings, spicy beef tripe, and scallion pancake. All of these were pretty good and didn't disappoint. I had the beef noodle soup and wife had some pork with snow cabbage noodle soup. My beef noodle soup was just alright. I had better beef noodle soup before but it filled me up regardless so no complaints. We frequent this place at least once a month. On the walls you can see there are many punch cards customers redeemed for soup dumplings. Make sure to get a lunch card because every 5 purchase you get a free order of soup dumplings which is very nice. Pretty nice Chinese restaurant in a heavily dominated Korean neighborhood. This is probably my favorite soup dumpling place in New Jersey!! I've been here a handful of times and never had a bad experience. A lot of reviews say that there was a long wait, but it really depends on the time of day you go. I've only had to wait once and it was only 10 mins. Please note that they do take credit cards but offer a discount if you pay with cash. There's also a small parking lot in the back but tends to fill up quickly. The menu is great, it offers a picture for every item on the menu which really helps when deciding what to order. The food is very inexpensive and authentic. You can get a meal for less than $10 a person. I ordered soup dumplings, noodles, fried dough, scallion pancakes and wonton noodle soup. Good though not great Shanghainese place which is really the perfect fuel after a long hike in the Palisades. We enjoyed the dan dan noodles A LOT. They were amazing and set our tongues buzzing. There are plenty of Shanghainese restaurants in the NYC area. Plenty. And they all have pretty similar menus. But imagine if one of these restaurants were to take every standard dish... and make it just a little bit better. That's what this place does. Those pan-fried udon with beef? Well, what if you were to use five-spice marinated, slow-cooked shin for the beef? Those dumplings in spicy sauce? Well, what if you were to add a few herbs to the filling and give them a sweet-and-savory twist? You get the idea. There are some Sichuan dishes on the menu, too, and admittedly we've never had Chongqing chicken with that kind of breading before, but the peppers (and peppercorn) were on point. Suffice it to say that you can easily feed four people to an extremely high standard for $60. And if you want to eat on site, you can even use one of their individual tents for safe outdoor dining. We still have more dishes to try, so we'll be back. read more

Shanghai Restaurant is easily one of my favorite Shanghainese/Chinese restaurants in the Tri-state area. Their Xiao Long Bao or Soup Dumplings rival many places in NYC Chinatown and they're one of the few places where you can get a decent dish of Fuqi Feipian (a classic Sichuan dish served cold with tender beef, offal and tripe slices in a spicy hot chili sauce) until recently when the supply chain issues with the pandemic dried up this option in the mean time. However despite a pandemic, Shanghai Restaurant has pushed through, delivering delicious Sichuan dishes and dim sum while practicing safe hygiene and COVID practices. All staff wear masks, appropriately above their nose. They provide you with paper plates and single use chopsticks. Outside the restaurant has installed cute little pods with lighting and heaters in each, to allow for socially distanced dining all year round. The food is served, hot, quickly with no frills and when you take your first bite, you can immediately tell that this food is from their heart. I would highly recommend their Mapo Tofu, Twice Cooked Pork (hui guo rou), Scallion Pancakes with Beef and if you're feeling adventurous their Sliced Pig Ears. Oh and of course the Xiao Long Bao. Bonuses include, is a BYOB spot, restaurant owner provides punch out card to redeem for free soup dumplings after five punches, and free off street parking in the back. So if you're ever looking for delicious home cooked Sichuan food, definitely stop by Shanghai Restaurant. I'm sure it won't disappoint. read more
