I don't know what kinda drugs they put in their sandwiches, cuz I'm sooo addicted!! I haven't tried anything on their menu that isn't good! Really. The breakfast sandwiches are my favorite, I normally get the egg sandwich with mushrooms...I'm salivating just thinking about it. I've had their Turkey with pesto and also with chipotle aioli (really good smoky flavor in that sauce), both are fantastic and I usually can't make up my mind so I ask them to add both sauces to my sandwich. The Portobello Mushroom sandwich is really good, so is the Caprice. To be honest, you really can't go wrong with ordering anything. I like my sandwiches heated and the bread is always so perfect with a chewy core and crispy crust. I've also tried their quinoa salad which comes with bell peppers and cucumbers. I like adding lettuce and cheese to it. The ingredients are super fresh and tasty. For breakfast I've had their oatmeal yogurt (I've never had anything like it before) and it's super good and filling. When I'm having a fatty day, I'll opt for one of their baked goods. Customer service is amazing. Everyone I've encountered here is super polite and professional. I really love this place and am so glad I have somewhere great to stop for coffee or chai during the work week. read more

Adorable cafe in a convenient location! I'm always a little frazzled looking for parking in Oakland but found an easy-peezy spot less than a block away. Phew! I came here to spend a few hours working and had no problems staying connected to the wifi, even amongst several other guests on laptops (Also rare!). Just grab the password code when you order at the counter. The staff were happy to help. I was bummed to see that breakfast sandwiches were no longer served after 11am (because I read so many raving reviews!) but settled for the mushroom and pesto sandwich. Not bad. As a cool breeze filled the cafe towards the end of my visit, I ordered an oh-so-satisfying chai latte to warm up. Marketing ploy to make a cold customer order a hot drink? I've been traveling to cafes around town during my maker days. Requirement being that they make good food / drink, have wifi and tables to work at. If it weren't for Yelp, I probably would never have noticed this place driving down 5th street. There was plenty of metered parking outside - $4.00 for 2 hours. Line got busy right around 12:15 but service was fast. I had a hearty bowl of the tortilla soup which hit the spot! Wifi was solid and I got a good couple of hours of meetings done. Nice coffee house that is an alternative to the McDonalds just a few blocks away. I picked up an iced coffee from here at about 9:30a on a weekday, and my total came to $1.50 for a 12oz. They were nice enough to add half and half to the cup and all I needed to do was put in some sugar and stir. The barista was very nice and helped me with a smile. The coffee was good, nothing to knock my socks off but considering the neighborhood alternatives, I would definitely choose to support this business. I will be back here for sure. read more

Been driving by this place and finally got to visit with my son. My baby and I had been checking out different cafes on my days off so I'm glad to have to check this place out. Featuring avocado for 8 dollars you can have a breakfast burrito that looks and tastes nothing like a breakfast burrito. And it's really small . Their breakfast sandwich made with organic eggs similarly sacrifices taste for looks . 24 dollars for a small sandwich burrito and a coffee seems a little inflated , just like their ego . Look, haters, this is a tiny little place staffed by the nicest proprietress. Do not go mess with her. I hate it when you find a place with a kind, thoughtful owner and then some jerks start bringing their attitudes and writing nasty reviews like "Sure, the coffee's organic, but the palm on my crema was lopsided AND it took her 45 seconds to make." If I hear that kind of stuff about Autobahn I will shove a bratwurst in your USB port. A tasty brat from Autobahn. Which is indeed right under the freeway and with a patio looking out on the BART. I found this place while I was on jury duty but I would go out of my way to come back. Maybe even learn some German to parlay with aforementioned nice owner. read more

This little gem here is by far one of the best cafes around the jack London area. Nestled between vacant buildings, this historic Victorian style building is surely a place you cannot miss. Coffee, lattes and tea are some of the beverages they make. I only come here for their breakfast and lunch sandwiches. If come in for breakfast, their homemade spicy sausage sandwich is a must try! Oh... And their homemade bread pudding muffin is delicious which a cup of joe! Overall, I love this place and is my usual to-go place for breakfast and lunch. Great friendly staff and service. This cafe is kind of in a weird location. It's in a Victorian house on 5th, and you have to go under the freeway to get to it from the Chinatown/Downtown area. It's right outside the Jack London area, where there are hella cars trying to reach the freeway or the tunnel to Alameda. They offer sandwiches and salads, but a little more upscale than you would find in other cafes. Prices are pretty reasonable though. The homemade spicy sausage sandwich is a must try here! I don't know what they do to make it but that sausage is really good and goes well with the jalapeno jack cheese. When I feel spendy I like to get an Italian soda from here too. There aren't a whole lot of seats, but many people come here for just takeout so I've never had a problem getting a seat. A downside of the location is that there are craploads of flies outside that you have to swat through to get here. I find it amazing that they can prop their door open and none of those flies ever come in. They look like they get a steady flow of customers during lunch, despite their inconvenient location. They'd definitely be really popular and busy if they were in a more accessible location, but they seem to do well as is. read more

I have been going to this spot in my neighborhood for awhile now and staying on the low key side with the 16oz single shot non-fat latte which must have illegal drugs in it since it is smooth roasted and perfect every damn time, how do they do that? Branching out the other day I got a homemade cranberry scone which was light and crunchy and worth every calorie. I love seeing OPD enjoying their jo at this spot, man if anyone deserves the love it is those people. Autobahn are taking a well deserved break for the holidays and I will miss them but after the new year and you are there be ready for good food and no nonsense. I come here every day for a cup of amaaaazing coffee and am rewarded with fresh-baked homemade goods served up by the always warm and friendly Walli, a German lady with a heart of gold! It doesn't get any better than that. My favorites are the mini sandwiches (sausage or salami), oatmeal chocolate chip cookies right outta the oven, and fresh-squeezed orange juice...all natural ingredients. That is one balanced and DELICIOUS breakfast. Just this morning she surprised me with warm peach and apricot cobbler, or "crisp" as she calls it, baked minutes before I got there. A wonderful new addition to the neighborhood! Breakfast sandwich is SO delicious and you can order a mini one or a regular big one. A big step up from other places that slap egg and cheese on a bagel and call it a meal. This one has bits of green onion and ham in a freshly made egg omelet on delicious perfectly toasted bread. I've been to my share of cafes and during the holidays I love the seasonal drinks. None of that matters because: this place has the best Pumpkin Spice Latte I've ever had. The Veggie sandwich was ah-mha-zing. It had portabella and an awesome pesto and to my surprise it was complemented by a true salad with pomegranates which I was not expecting. Nice space! Setup nice, light and comfortable. Great hospitality! Menu has many options. Coffee is great so started off well. I had breakfast burrito and partner had ciabatta sandwich. We both remarked on presentation. Eggs cooked perfectly with all sorts of good flavor surprises. Sitting on the back porch was real nice and pleasant. After many substandard or poorly manufactured breakfasts in Oakland we may have found our 'go to' place. I suggest trying autobahn cafe. read more

Great place that I happened to chance upon, thanks to the handy-dandy yelp application. I was at the Oakland Courthouse trying to fight a ticket and had time to wait for my walk-in hearing. Craving a tasty gourmet sandwich and a hot cup of coffee, I walked into the Autobahn Cafe. Their Vegetarian sandwich was absolutely amazing and their cappuccino was just what I required to keep the day going. The ambiance of the place is one of quiet simplicity. The people that run the joint seem to be kind but not overly jovial. It is apparent that it is part of the Oakland community but that it is the kind of cafe where one is to happen upon for a quite bite before going on their way; not the type of cafe where one sits and relaxes with the paper while slowly eating. If I'm ever in the area, I'll be sure to go out of my way to come by again. read more

Even though I don't actually drink coffee, I love this place. Wally (Walli?) is so friendly, and her sandwiches and cookies are fantastic. We have heard the tri-tip sandwich is fabulous, but have yet to see this elusive creature. She also makes a mean chai latte - hold the attitude. I can honestly say the best chicken salad sandwich and the best Cubano I've ever had came out of Autobahn Cafe. When I study, I need change of scenery. I can't be cooped up in my apartment, nor do I want to be sequestered in a dungeon of a law library either. Enter Autobahn Cafe. This is a really cute cafe in Oakland not far from where I live. The latte I ordered was really good. It did not taste bitter or burnt . . . very smooth. The foam was nice and thick. I added hazelnut syrup and it was sweetened to perfection . . . not too sweet, but just enough sweetener to give it taste. The lady was very friendly. The cafe was very clean and simple. I love that they had small tables (for 2) and tables that accommodate 4, because when I study I like to spread out. Overall, this is a great new study spot for me, since there's just enough natural light to "wake" me up and they have nice music playing. The only drawback is the street parking, unless they have parking elsewhere that I don't know about. I hate feeding meters, especially when I don't know how long I'll remain. Since Oakland is tore up in many ways, specifically the streets, we know the meter maids will be out on the prowl to ticket anyone with an expired meter, but that's a whole other review for another entity. read more
