This place my husband and I have been passing for years and I finally stated to him LETS GO. So we took a visit to Shema Sushi they have limited hours and not a ton of tables. I would suggest getting here earlier than later. The inside has tables and you can see the chef making sushi, nigiri and etc. Enough tables and the color scheme is black walls, lots of natural light and tables. Now you can get your menu from the QR Code or feel free to ask for a menu. They have Asahi Beer a plus and I had a few unfortunately it's not on tap. I got a few rolls and my husband got the sushi sashimi combo. He liked it not loved it. I enjoyed it and our server was friendly, engaging and pleasant. I'd come back for sure as it's close enough to where we live. Considering its Sushi prices are moderate. I would come back for sure. Parking is basically street it is what it is.

Shema sushi is a great restaurant to go to if you're craving sushi in Rochester! We ordered the agedashi tofu, 3 chef special rolls (sumo, yummy yummy, and phoenix rolls), and a kitsune udon. The agedashi tofu was a bit paler than I'm used to, but it tasted decent, although nothing special. My favorite roll was the Phoenix roll (I love spicy tuna), but they were all pretty solid and tasted fresh! The kitsune udon was good as well, I always love fried tofu and how it soaks up the flavor of the broth. Overall, this was a solid meal and service was quick and kind to us :)

Best sushi in Monroe County, NY! Maybe even in Western NY! Really clean restaurant, too! No sticky tables, menus, or shoyu bottles. The quality of everything we ordered was excellent.

Huge fan of Shema! We ordered for Yelp's Big Night In 2.0 and I was so impressed by their Covid-19 setup. Large barriers, food out on the table, and a text message when food was ready. We had a pretty large order with rolls, combo specials, entrees, and apps, and everything was labeled / conscientiously packed up. It did take over an hour for the food to be prepped, but not a huge deal. I will admit, since my first love Shiki closed a while ago, I haven't been super inspired to order sushi from any of the other great spots. Primarily because many of them are in Henrietta, which is simply not close to me, but also because I have REALLY missed Shiki. The sushi offered here at Shema is still not the same quality, but it might be the best option we have available right now. I went with a sushi combo that includes soup and salad for like $19, which was great. I'm looking forward to continuing to support this biz!

I love Shema sushi. They have the freshest and most flavorful fish. I've been coming ever since a friend recommended. It's a small place but they make the best sushi. So many tasty and unique rolls and other entrees. Absolutely love going here.

Still five stars! I'm updating my review to say that I still love this place, and they're offering pickup orders by phone during the COVID-19 outbreak. Today I ordered the chicken gyoza and bulgogi meal for lunch and it was so worth it. The food was as fresh and delicious as ever, and given these uncertain times, having a hot meal made with love meant so much to me. Give them your patronage if you can! Their current hours are: Mon. - Fri. : 11:30AM ~ 7:30PM Sat. : 4:30PM ~ 7:30PM Check their Facebook page for updates and a menu.

    Sushi "boat" for 2

My new go-to place for sushi now that Shiki is closed. Shema offers a similarly convenient central location and some of the best sushi I've had in Rochester. Their sushi boat for two is what keeps bringing my fiancée and I back. For $50, it's a decent value with plenty of food even for those with big appetites. The sushi boat consists of two miso soups, two salads, 2 chef special rolls (8 pieces each) and 20 pieces of nigiri sushi with some seaweed salad. The rolls are expertly made with good uniformity and generous amounts of ingredients. The nigiri are too notch. They serve both salmon and tuna two ways. I'm a fan of their toro nigiri. Another underrated item on their menu is their Hamachi Kama (grilled yellowtail). As long as you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty, you'll be rewarded with delicious and succulent fall off the bone fish.

Yummy yummy roll with tempura shrimp and seared salmon, so good!

I came here last night for some sushi and I am ready to comeback for more ASAP it was so delicious. My friend and I ordered 4 rolls which were very filling. The spicy tuna roll was your classic roll and was very good. The kabuki was a great light roll, didn't have overpowering flavors but had the perfect combo of fish and avocado. The star rolls of the night were the yummy yummy and the salmon crunch. Both had the perfect amount of tempura flavors mixed with the creaminess of either cream cheese and avocado. I probably said mmmm with every bite I took and we definitely fought over the last pieces of them. Our server was super friendly and quick all night too. I can't wait to come back and try more!

Is it wrong to say I MISS SHIKI? Shiki closed over the summer and it was the only authentic Japanese sushi place we had in Rochester. So, we tried Shema Sushi tonight with high hopes ... knowing full well that Shema is not authentic Japanese! The goods: nice ambiance, presentable dishes, great salmon sashimi, fantastic avocado salad made with ponzu sauce, and good service. Not so goods: toro was frozen. That is not good. I paid $15 for four pieces of toro (fatty tuna) sashimi pieces that had been frozen. Again, that's not good. I just regret not sending it back. Second, not only they charge you for hot green tea, they also charge for refills. I don't know if any Japanese sushi (and Chinese) restaurants that do that. Lastly, prices are somewhat high. Had sashimi "super" which had 21 pieces (3 pieces of seven different types of sashimi), toro sashimi, seaweed salad and avocado salad. I am pretty mad at toro being frozen but the rest were okay with salmon sashimi and avocado salad being exceptionally good.

Literally no one seemed to know what they were doing. They were all extremely awkward and seemed much more interested in talking to each other about outside stuff than actually practicing good customer service. I used to work at the Taichi in Irondequoit, and at our store, we got people in and out. I waited for two drinks, and I kid you not, it took 20 whole minutes. I watched my two cups of boba sit in the back for about 10 minutes while the girl kept reading the receipt over and over, then walking away. When she finally made and sealed both drinks, she put them on a table in the back and went to fill the ice bucket. She then stayed in the back talking to other employees. The drinks sat on that table for another five minutes until I finally asked the girl at the register if I could get my drinks. Mind you, she was also having a full conversation with the other employees in the front. She finally said, "Oh yes, sorry." The whole experience was extremely frustrating. Everyone seemed completely lost, there was no sense of urgency whatsoever, and the customer service was honestly terrible. I understand not every day is perfect, but this was ridiculous, especially considering the store wasn't even busy. I will never, ever come back here again.

The space is cozy and inviting, with booths wrapped around the conveyor belt so you can immediately start eyeing the plates gliding by. The sushi on the belt was fresh and tasty, though we noticed the selection leaned a bit heavily toward spicy‑mayo‑based rolls. Everything we tried was delicious, but we would have loved to see a little more variety for those who prefer something less saucy. Thankfully, the touchscreen ordering system made it easy to branch out. You can order drinks and à la carte sushi directly from the screen, and your items arrive on a dedicated upper‑deck conveyor that zips your order straight to your table. It's a clever setup and really helps round out the meal with more options. Drinks were delivered by an adorable robot, which added a fun, whimsical touch. Tables were cleared promptly, and the whole experience felt smooth and well‑run. We had a great time and will definitely be returning.

You are seated at a tablet in front of a conveyor belt with the sushi making it's way around the restaurant. You can take whatever catches your eye as it passes in front of you, or you can order from the tablet. If you order from the tablet, little cars bring the food on a second, higher conveyor belt above the first one, or sometimes a robot brings it to your seat. So there are 2 moving belts, robots, and servers. It's a lot! Fun, but be aware. It is cool that you can see things moving past and try different things. The plates on the belt are also less than a full order, which means you can try more things, if that's your style. Service is pretty quick since you're helping yourself from the belt. They do a good job making sure there is a variety of items on the belt and seemed to restock pretty quickly. You can mostly chose from rolls and nigiri. I do like American style rolls, and enjoyed the options. The guy prefers nigiri. We ordered some tempura and picked some nigiri from the menu as well. I really enjoyed the veggie tempura. They have good salmon - we tried the peppered salmon, which he thought was too much, but was smokey and peppery, and I enjoyed. There was also a spicy yellowtail, and plain salmon that was also nice quality. We shared an ice cream sundae with one of the little fish shaped cakes for dessert, which was really good. I liked the little cake with the red bean paste inside. It was fun and pretty low key.

Whether you choose all you can eat or not, you order off the regular menu, and they bring it out fresh to order for one set price. You can share with other people at your table, if they also order all you can eat. Which was another plus for me. It is also, what we decided to do. Our approach was to try a little at a time, so we could try as much as possible. We both ordered different things, with the intent on sharing. I ordered 2 sushi rolls. One I wanted and one my BF asked me to order. He is relatively new to Sushi. He ordered Beef Teriyaki, with steak, rice and Zucchini. My BF said he did not like Zucchini. But he loved everything about this dish. Real steak, the Zucchini was cut thick, so it had a nice crunch to it. The sauce was out of this world. Very different from Beef Teriyaki I've had at other Japanese restaurants. Lots of flavor, not salt. I really liked the Sushi rolls I ordered, but my BF ended up only trying 2, before he decided he wanted to move on to other things. Leaving me to finish the Sushi myself. Which filled me up pretty good. When I go back, I am not going to oblige him with that courtesy again. Haha! Next time I will order one roll, so Im not too full to try more menu items. It's quite the menu. If you do not like Sushi, no worries, they have a wide variety of hot dishes and appetizers. They have a food waste policy, which I thought was a huge plus. A lot of items on the menu are small plate foods, so it shouldn't be a problem. BF received his food first, there was a bit of a wait for the sushi, I heard a lot of people ordering a lot of Sushi upfront. Which probably backed it up a bit. But it was not a problem. I just helped BF eat his steak dish. lol. You do not have to order everything at once. Staff walks around checking on you keeping a close eye out. You can order more items off the menu as you go. The Ambiance was also very nice.Very comfortable, perfect for date, family, or friend nights out. They also had some whimsy, which is nice. Their Uniforms, have a Yoda saying on it. Which is definitely fun to note. The food was fresh, and delicious. A great way to upscale "all you can eat" I will definitely be back. Usually I cannot eat enough to make all you can eat worth it. But I would do it again here. Our bill was reasonable. But If I knew exactly what I wanted and it was less expensive than all you can eat. I would also order off the menu. This is my new favorite Sushi Restaurant. They do serve alcohol. Wine, beer, and sake. The beers are mostly Japanese beers. Staff were super friendly, happy, and helpful. They will walk you through the process. They have real menus, and also a QR code menu. The only improvement I would recommend, is that once they take your initial order. It would be nice to be able to use the QR code to order more items, instead of waiting on staff. I think it would work great with their food waste policy. But that's just a friendly suggestion. When I do reviews, I do take pics of the ladies room, if no one is in there. I think it should be normalized. Theirs was impeccable. The entire establishment was super clean.

So, if you have the time, this place is totally worth it for the 25$ all you can eat option. It's alacarte and the sushi chef makes really really good rolls. The inside is incredibly outdated, thus this place isn't what I call a formal upscale date place to go but if your date/friend can put down sushi and can appreciate good quality sushi, then this place definitely is a 5/5 for sushi. I once watched a table of people watching a soccer game on their ipads while enjoying the meal- very chill place. My husband and I super busy and despite it's incredibly slower wait time, it's worth it. It's one dude doing all of it - frying the agadashi tofu (very good btw), fried crab leg, and rolling the sushi. 25$ for an all you can eat ala carte sushi that you can check off the list.
