My husband and I continue to love Thunderbird market. We consistently purchase our A2 milk here for a good price. When we allow ourselves to by ice cream, we typically get Tillamook Mudslide here and it is exquisite! They have a good, although small, organic section in produce. Typically, they have the sweetest organic broccoli in town for a competitive price. This is a big store and it is fun to explore it in depth to see what specialties are available. This store is primarily conventional with a mix of some organic. My husband and I don't buy conventional because we eat only organic. The folks who work here are exceptionally sweet and they know their business. If I need help, I get it immediately. If we need to order something special from the meat department like organic SMART chicken thighs, Michael will call the manager in the meat department and place his order. They go the 2nd mile to make sure that we get what we asked for if it is at all possible. Thunderbird really understands service with a smile!!! read more

Great find @ Thunderbird in Medford, OR. !! I was looking for a couple boxes of good old Cracker Jacks for a birthday present to a person who I heard enjoys them very much! After much searching elsewhere, I was happy to find them here at Thunderbird! Not only did they have them in a modern bag with a resealable closure in stock, they had the nostalgic small boxes for $1.58 a 3 pack!! I feel this is the BEST retail grocery store in Southern Oregon. It is a big store and they have a very large selection of just about everything. They usually have several check stands open so you seldom have to wait. They have a large selections of KETO, Sugar Free, Atkins, Bulk, and Organic items to pick from. Great food choices even during the Covid-19 quarantine. They had toilet paper! Always friendly service and they help this particular U.S.M.C. Disabled Veteran put the groceries into my car! The ambiance is of a very large neighborhood Mom and Pop store, which is what it is. And Sherm's Thunderbird Market supports F.F.A. and 4h by buying much of the livestock they raise. And Sherm's has supported the soup kitchens of Southern Oregon for many years giving away truckload of food to help feed the needy. Sherms is basically like a landmark here in the Rogue Valley. The store is not very large, and is laid out so things are easy to find. The produce section is smaller but they try to buy locally and pass the savings to us. The staff is friendly and has always been helpful. My mother used to shop here when I was a kid because the prices were always the best here. That was in the early '70's. Prices now are competitive but I still have my other favorite stores here in the valley that offer larger organic sections for produce and meats- at competitive prices. Sherms is easy and when I need just a few items in a hurry, I like coming here. read more

When you think of the meth-addled, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, slack-jawed yokels that live in a small town like Medford, you realize that they've got to go somewhere buy their Bud Light, Camels, coldcuts, and cheese. Well, Thunderbird is where that happens. Yes, things are generally pretty cheap at Thunderbird -- it's owned by Sherm's, which also owns the non-Kroger Food 4 Less in Medford as well. But the store, which looks straight out of 1973 -- is a total craphole. It smells of I'm not sure what -- but it doesn't smell pleasant at all in there. The lighting -- much like Food 4 Less -- is awful, and also feels like it hasn't changed since 1973. And while it's at least generally clean in there, you feel like you wouldn't be surprised to find cans and boxes covered with a thick layer of dust. And I'm thinking the previous reviewer has Thunderbird mixed up with Food 4 Less. Thunderbird doesn't at all stock natural foods. Food 4 Less is the one with the extensive selection of organics/naturals. However, for some reason, Thunderbird has a very extensive sports card selection. So if you want to buy a pack of Topps trading cards, this is the only place in town (other than Walmart/Target) to do so. Too many other places in Medford to buy groceries where you don't feel the need to wash yourself in bleach when you're done. Just steer clear of Thunderbird! read more

I just want to say "good job" to management for posting signs discouraging shoppers from taking more than their share of toilet paper (limit one per). Went to Freddy's and although they nominally have the same policy, their clerks aren't encouraged to tell customers "enough". So good job Thunderbirders. Folks freak out thinking they're alone on this planet and need help remembering they aren't. read more

We moved to Medford from Ashland in 1985. I've been shopping at Sherm's' since then! I love this market and the staff - some of whom have been there since my first visit! And when my sister from LA or my daughter who now lives there visit, Sherm's is where they shop! Even though Albertsons is right across the street! Home town feel and great prices. Some reviewers complain of price increases- I ALWAYS spend more for the same food at Freddy's or Albts! And the service at those stores is impersonal and even rude at times. Sherm himself died recently but for years I would see him walking thru the store making sure things were "right". And he was an amazing philanthropist - very generous! This is "my store" and my eldest daughter shops Sherm's for most of her food. If you want to pay more to "feel" higher class, shop at Fred Meyer, pay higher prices, and hunt all over the store for what you need while being tempted to buy a bazillion things you don't! It saddens me to read negative reviews - and especially reviews that make Mexican food selections and clientele seem unseemly - shame on you! Don't talk trash about such a sweet hometown market! read more

This is a great place to shop and I make it a point to stop here if I happen to be in Medford. There's a couple of things that I like about this place. The first is that it's a locally owned store. Locally owned businesses keep more of the money in our local community. The second thing I like is that the prices here are really low all the time. Get there for their once per year case sale and score some seriously good deals. For example, I am a canned light peach junkie. I eat them for dessert, for snacks, for breakfast. I love the things. During their case sale you can buy them for about $0.73/can or half the regular price. (For some of my friends in the City who are reading this perhaps you won't understand the appeal of a case sale but when it is 15 miles to the store, one way, and you can can save money by paying lower prices AND stocking up (which saves you future trips to the store) it's a total win.) The third thing I like is their great selection of organic and vegetarian foods, again at really good prices. It's nice to get your conventional and your organic goodies in one place. They have a lot of locally made products like tofu and salsa here, and these products are often cheaper and better than their nationally marketed competitors. Their location is great, too. It's just on the edge of Southwest Medford which spares you the worst of Medford's traffic and makes it easy to pop in and out. So there you have it: Convenience, good prices, and good products. I'm so glad my husband dragged me in here! After the other bad reviews I thought this place might be a crack house in disguise. Turns out it's dated and charming. I liked the feel of it and I'd be considered a bit of an aging hipster or country mom type. It's a great resource for a bunch of things I've not found elsewhere. I've been to about 9 markets now from Ashland to Medford, plus farmers markets, health food stores to big chains. No market has everything if you have eclectic taste. This market is skewed to mexican: great 4H meats, thin cut beef for BBQ taco meat, handmade tortillas (not overpriced or dubbed "artisan" - also not full of cellulose fiber, which is high end saw dust. Look at your tortillas then look it up. Surprise!) 10 kinds of dried and fresh pepper, mexican squash, plantains, tamale husks, bulk dried beans & rice, pinatas, and the list goes on. Decent Asain selection. Organic milk at better prices. For the husband: lowest price on American Spirit loose tobacco cans and Pabst. Also washer fluid for my car! If you like places with character, ignore the haters and try this place. read more

This place is classic and nostalgic! This grocery store is straight out of the 1980's. Boy, just being in this store brought back memories of what groceries stores looked like in the 80s. They still have flaps hanging over the cold areas. Big gigantic numbers at their cash registers (no lighted up numbers). The look, feel, smell, everything reminded me of grocery stores in the 1980's. We do not go here to do all of our grocery shopping but do come to get a few things here and there. Staff are friendly. They don't carry all of the things I like to buy and the produce does not look that good and they have limited organic produce. They do have excellent prices on many things. I don't love the layout of the store but they have to work with what they have. read more

This place is ok for what it is. Being new here I was told if I want to shop locally, go to Sherms. I'm up for keeping the money in the community. Not to my surprise, it's like most grocery stores who claim to be local, 10% local foods, 90% just like every big chain store. Their produce has something to be desired, often at expiration date or overly ripe. Their mass market side which is the majority of the store, I stay away from. They have a small 2 aisle section of organics and naturals which is pretty good, though their bulk section is full of nasty preservatives and unhealthy oils, so read your labels. I feel Fred Meyers had more local farm foods and their produce is much better. Sherm's has a better organic section. I would say I do about 10% of my shopping here, 10% at Natural Grocers now, and the majority at Freddys. I'm all for keeping our money in the community, but my health is priority. read more

So sad this store made a big deal about me returning or exchanging a $2.00 tea. They have recently changed a lot of there product sets, so I grabbed the wrong one. To make such a stink, come out your office and tell me u can't do it, while I shop here often. Just makes me want to go to Winco. Disappointed in management, no matter what the customer is right and make them happy. They failed and I felt embarrassed, just left after I bought my stuff! I worked for Down to Earth health food chain in Hawaii for 20'years. People always came back because we did they right thing and made customers happy. I would like to extend an EXTREMELY SARCASTIC "Thank You" to Sherm's Thunderbird Market in Medford. Today, my family and I went there to buy some dinner groceries. Although I am not a fan of this store to begin with, it is significantly cheaper than stores such as Albertsons or Safeway, and I feed a family on a budget. When we left the store, we loaded up the kiddos and the puppy and went on our merry way. HOWEVER.... Once we got home, we were surprised to find a significant amount of our groceries missing. Not just a few, but most of the dinner for tonight. It was strange, but things happen. I called Sherm's, and the lovely lady on the phone confirmed that no one had written in their "left behind book," so no one had reported my groceries. That is odd to me, since it was a large bundle of stuff. I already felt really dumb for leaving such a significant amount behind, so she said I could bring the receipt in and talk to a manager because they had cameras everywhere. When I went in, Sarah - the assistant store manager, said she would report it to security and they would try to find out what happened to my groceries. In the interim, they would not honor the fact that I had bought them and not gotten them and I would have to buy the groceries AGAIN. Once the security guard sees the footage, I would not be refunded my money because they are not liable for my groceries nor the theft of such left behind groceries. Now, while I understand this policy, I do not understand the lack of empathy or compassion for them to replace the groceries in an honestly mistaken circumstance. So, in essence, I now understand why people choose stores like Albertsons or Safeway - the customer service and integrity of the employees has got to be greater than what I witnessed today. I will never again shop at Sherm's - neither Food for Less or Thunderbird. While one customer may not mean much to you, I can only hope my word spreads and karma one day comes to kick you in the ass. Also, to the people who did receive my groceries, by mistake or not, I hope that you really needed them. If not, I hope your honesty will come fourth and report it to the store. Regardless, enjoy my family's spaghetti and salad dinner I have now purchased twice. read more

If I had a choice I would of picked zero stars. Customer service in the produce and meat dept suck. U smile at them or even ask a the employee a question, they act like it is bothering them. Sherms Thunderbird is an older market. When you are in there, there is a bit of a time capsule feeling. It's a smaller store than contemporary supermarkets in the Valley. They are dingy and old feeling, but they are a great community store. All the checkers are polite and helpful and most recognize you and remember your name. Their prices are much cheaper than the lush Albertsons across the road. Check out the Thunderbird parking lot and then look over to Albertsons half full one. They aren't the prettiest store in town, but they are hometown, polite, and community minded and one best priced in town. Food 4 Less will have cheaper prices, but they are huge. Thunderbird doesn't have the selection of Food 4 Less, but they are still my go to store for my neighborhood, eschewing both Albertsons and Safeway. read more

Thunderbird has a good price on bottled water by the gallon. There is no other reason to go here. Well, they do pay their employees well. The store smells bad and is extremely outdated. Product selection rivals that of the most overpriced and understocked country market between here and Selma. The few products worth consuming are overpriced. read more
