Great place for a simple, inexpensive meal in Crested Butte. My wife had the stew and I had the noodles and the beef stew was tastier. The naan was fresh and delicious and the dumpling appetizers were good too. The service was friendly as well... family owned place. If I were to give some pointers, I'd have a designer re-do their menu to make it easier to understand... and then there are a few basic food service pointers like making sure all the salt and pepper shakers match, and that hot sauce is service in a ramekin rather than just handed to me in a giant plastic bottle. This place is magical. It is a special authentic trip to Tibet / the Himalayas and back. The chai tea here is like nothing else. The spice, sweet, and comfort is like nothing I have ever tasted, I drink 2 or 3 chai teas a day and yet this is by far the best. The staff are kind and make their restaurant feel like home with their welcoming atmosphere and colorful prayer flags. The Momos are a MUST. My favorite is the Chicken Masala, incredible (rice with orange tangy sauce and diced chicken). For a warm vegetable fried treat get the Vegetable Samosas. If you are in Crested Butte going to Sherpa Cafe is essential. You will leave feeling happier in so many ways than when you walked in (and get some Naan bread to take home)! read more

Best restaurant in CB, and just off Elk enough that not everyone knows it. Everything here is so tasty. Freshest, greenest saag paneer ever. Momos are yummy with amazing sauce. Masala & kormas creamy but not heavy. Light and airy naan. Mango lassi tastes like yogurt is homemade. Chai delicious hot or iced. In the last years, quality has soared! I really wanted to like the Sherpa Cafe. And I am grateful that the proprietress kept the restaurant open so that seven customers could eat late lunches. There were two in my group, but nothing we ordered met our expectations, with the possible exception of the lashi drink. The rice wasn't hot. The naan was too thick and chewy. The thupka soup lacked flavor. And the chala masala resembled less the bursting-with-spice flavor I'm used to in Indian restaurants than a pasta sauce. Music would have been nice. It was so quiet, and everyone sat so close, that people seemed inhibited from talking. read more

Food at the Sherpa cafe is one of the best things you can spend your money on in crested butte. I've been here once before and ha an excellent time. I'm sitting in the restaurant right now enjoying a milk tea(very good btw). It's a quaint little shop. Only five or so tables. I walked in greeted by the nice smell of curry and traditional Tibetan music. They seemed to be out of a lot of drinks. I ordered mango lassi which they were out of, than a raspberry iced tea that they were also out of. I finally settled on a coke. Halfway through my time they started playing a hard rock song which was kind of weird but then it reverted back to traditional music. My dad and I split the Tibetan fried rice which was good. The thing about it was that it had broccoli in it which I generally don't like but they managed to make it good. We also had the momo platter which was freaking fantastic although the sauce that came on the side was a little weird. Overall I would definitely recommend the Sherpa cafe read more

This gem is AMAZING. We came to town on a day trip to check out the mountain biking and stopped in here for lunch. Service was outstanding and the food... I think it is the most delicious Indian/Nepalese food I've ever had!!! Their menu is not huge but executed with perfection. The sherpa rolls and momo appetizers were microwaved to order, so the dough was rubbery and the filling lukewarm. The masala was bland and tasted like canned tomato soup. This is our second year coming to this great little place and we enjoyed it even more on this trip. The food, portions, quality, and service make this place such a bargain! We have enjoyed the many appetizers they offer in addition to the Chicken Tika Masala, saag, and chicken Makhani. All are excellent! Garlic naan is the best I've ever had! Went with a group of four, sat promptly in a cozy room by a friendly hostess. Ordered family style with a vegetarian friend: veggie momo, veggie curry, garlic naan, saag paneer and veggie korma. Of what we ordered, the first was ok but I wouldn't order again, the second was not great and a little watery, but the last three were out of this world. Five stars for those alone! This place could be missed or walked passed. It's on the side street right off the main road in town. It's a authentic Napalese/Tibetan/Indian cuisine restaurant. We wanted to find a decent unique place for lunch before we hit the road from our visit. I walked passed this place at least three times. There were quite a few contenders nearby like the Brick Oven, Secret Stash, a deli where everything is homemade, but in the end hey Napalese food, WHY NOT? I convinced my boyfriend and friend to eat there. The prices are very reasonable. I ordered a soup with vegetables. My boyfriend ordered the Thugkpa, a stew. I liked his better than mine. Our food came with naan. This has to be one of the best naan ever. Althought, it may be my first time trying this type of naan. Maybe I had tried some in an Indian restaurant in the Midwest but this was warm, fluffy, flaky, and crunchy. I could taste a bit of garlic. MMMM. If you're ever in this town looking for something local but international, I highly recommend giving his place a try for even the sheer experience. I'd have to pass on the five-star since I'd have to try some other foods. Maybe next time I go. We thought it odd that it was so quiet. Sooooooo good. We had the saag with chicken and chicken tikka masala. Both dishes were very good. Portion size was just right with some naan on the side. The owner, who served the food, and the girl who waited on us were both so friendly as well. The quiet small place is nice getaway from the other restaurants around. All the food others ordered looked amazing and I heard comments from both tables about how everything they got was really good too.
