The servings are huge, which is great, if you are looking for a gigantic heap of lettuce and cucumbers. Very plain and not too tasty, although presentation is impressive. The place was packed when I went, so maybe I am in the minority. If I'm going to eat out, I'd prefer some flavor. This is my favorite place to eat in Slo County. The food is fresh, healthy, and delicious! The people who work here are friendly, down to earth, and the atmosphere is clean. My favorites are the pancakes (served on the weekends), spring rolls w/their ruben sandwich tempeh for lunch, and the green dragon smoothie. I love you, Shine Cafe!!!! You make my vegan tummy all warm and fuzzy! We eat here every day when we vacation in Morro Bay. The food is organic, fresh, made with love. We adore the breakfast-- the tofu scramble and hot cakes are badass-- especially topped with the Cayucos hot sauce. We always get coffee and fresh juice -- yum! For lunch we love the build your own bowls with so many fresh ingredients to choose like tempeh, avo, beets, etc. and delicious dressings, you can't go wrong! We love to stock up on vegan snacks for our stay and while hiking, at the Shine Market next door -- it's a vegan haven for everything your little cruelty-free heart desires. This is a review by a vegetarian Had the tempeh taco. It's not really a taco proper in that it is %100 knife and fork food. You can't even see the taco shell under all the salad and such when the plate comes out. Tempeh at the bottom is mixed with quinoa and has a nice salty kick. It's very satisfying vegan food and I ate the entire gargantuan thing. The grocery store side of the operation has cacao nibs in the bulk section for $12.99/lb which is comparable to the larger shops in SF and online One star off for the crowded nature of the seating and the long wait for food. Being attached to a health food store with local and organic selections it's no surprise how fresh, light and delicious meals are here. I love the daily soup selections and a decent variety of dishes to choose from. Their Tempeh Tacos and Tempeh Salad is amazing! My brother dreams about this dish since he visited last. This place has become a go-to spot for lunch or early dinner (it closes at 5) on road trips up the coast. We started off going there by default: We were hungry vegetarians passing through town without too many other options plainly presenting themselves, but Shine has proven itself worthy. The Famous Tempeh Tacos are mouth-watering. Please note though that they are not tacos. First off, it's a single giant taco, not multiple tacos. Secondly, it doesn't actually resemble a taco at all, but more an unwrapped wrap with a huge salad on top. But thirdly, it is absolutely delicious. read more

My understanding is that they are in the process of locating and moving to a another location where this will no longer be a problem. The environment was great, staff was very friendly and seemed happy to work there. Clean and cute place, great vibes. I ordered the tempeh Reuben. So many people reviewed it saying it was great, and maybe all the hype is what ruined it. I felt it was mediocre. Felt very dry even with the avocado. Next time I will try the tacos! The Tempeh Tacos are healthy, filling, and flavorful, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and they have Joy Cups! What more could a Californian vegan girl ask for? Weekend brunch is also a joy, with a unique and delicious tofu scramble and vegan pancakes! Not everything is vegan, but most things are easily veganized. The smoothies are also really bomb--especially the Pina Macalada! I wish the daily soup was a bit less expensive, but it is usually very delicious, and to be fair, it's a pretty big bowl of soup. I wish there was a bit more seating, especially for busy weekend brunches. But this is a great spot to make you grateful you have the opportunity to put such wholesome, fresh, healthy food in your body, and that you live in a place where you can chat up the cute staff, right by the bay! My last trip (in February I think) I had ordered the Green Dragon smoothie. It has spirulina, ginger, and mangos/banana?, among other things. During that time it was the best smoothie I had ever had, even at the whopping $7 per 20~ oz drink. This last trip I went with my family, I had ordered the same thing, my mother ordered a Pineapple "maculata" which I assume is similar to a Pina Colada, and my step-dad ordered a Berry Blast. This year I've been completely plant based so you can imagine how hard it is to find places to eat. So when I came across shine cafe on yelp I was fucking pumped. I ordered a black bean tostada and the street tacos. The black bean tostada was bomb and the street8 tacos were fire. My complaint about the food is I wish they had salsa verde for the tacos. The reason why I gave shine a O one star review is because of the KAREN they had working there. When I ordered my food she said it would be 10mins so I left to shop around and came back in 10 mins. When I got back KAREN asked me what I was doing here. I told her you said 10 mins. And she proceeded to tell me no I told you 15 mins. Customer service is key especially in these times. OMG! This place is awesome! You don't have to be vegan to enjoy the food here, just open to new experiences that will blow you palate away. The staff is nice and helpful and the food is always super fresh. The specials are never a dissapointment. I had the most amazing hummus wrap here last week. The veggie spring rolls are amazing and absolutely beautiful too. The portions here are large, you never leave hungry. They are actually a bit too large for me at times (beware getting more than one tempeh taco) but I love having the left over later. The seating area is a bit small but they are changing locations this week so I'm hoping that the new location will accommodate more people. read more
