Giving 5 stars for the IDEAL vegan menu. The menu wasn't stuffed full of soy soy soy which I recognize and appreciate. I had a big salad full of fresh shredded carrot, red cabbage, sprouts, and the kale bean soup du jour, Both were outstanding and filling. Looking forward to visiting again someday to try more things. Order at the counter, and bus your own dishes (if you didn't finish, just put the dish into the plastic bin. They compost leftovers!) This was confusing on my first visit but not too bad. read more

I LOVE this place. And I'm a hard core meat eater, so it's not for lack of choices. I really wish they'd stay open for dinner, though - closing so early really bums me out. However, for breakfast or lunch, if you have a small party (like 2-4 max), this is a great place. I almost always order the Tempeh Salad and what I have affectionately called "the Chad special" which is a smoothie with bananas, almond milk, and espresso beans (and maybe almond butter? I can't recall). It's not on the menu, but it should be. So great. The staff here is very nice, too, even if often frazzled. They do a great job. Highly recommend! read more

Nice atmosphere and mostly good food but I realize that the menu never changes and the copious amounts of lettuce and shredded carrots they use takes away from most of the dishes. I'm grateful that there is a vegan option in this little town but it would be nice if they changed the menu up a little and tried some new creative receipes. But mostly I've been disappointed with how much lettuce and carrots they use in the tempeh and black bean tacos. I hope they get some creative foodies in there and change things up a bit someday. As a local and a vegetarian, I was so pleased to find this little cafe. The dining room is small but the high ceilings and natural light make it feel more open. Ordering is done at the counter, where service was friendly and knowledgeable. My friend was avoiding wheat and the counter person was very familiar with ingredients in all the menu items and was able to make suggestions for alternatives. I ordered the tempeh Reuben which was one of the tastiest veggie sandwiches I have had. It did not suffer from being cheese-free and was full of fresh veggies, tasty tempeh and a savory cilantro dressing to moisten all. Trust me, better than you would expect. My friend had the tempeh taco which was also excellent and full of fresh ingredients. I will be back soon for this sandwich. read more

As a vegetarian/ plant based advocate it is rather difficult to find delicious well prepared fresh salads that make a meal unless I do it myself. The mixed green tempeh salad with ginger dressing was something that I have to YELP about: simply spectacular beautiful to look at, fresh as it possibly could be, delicious with unique flavors and well balanced. The tomatoes had great flavor, the price was well worth the enormous serving that should have made two meals, but for me it was perfect. I did eat in two phases a couple of hours apart but because it was fresh greens I had to enjoy it sooner rather than later. Bravo Shine Cafe, I look forward to the rest of the menu. read more

Very good food. I had the black bean/rice taco. I would have preferred more beans in relation to the rice, but still very good. The taco was blanketed in lettuce, avocado, etc., all very fresh and flavorful. My son had the tempeh taco which he liked a lot. My wife liked her red lentil soup. She also had a salad. Since she doesn't like tomatoes she gave them to me. Outstanding in flavor and texture. read more

But it can fill that enormous hole I call a belly. Folks around here Know that through a single door down a urr long hallway there is a room full of friendly beautiful solutions to for said problem of hunger. I have never written a yelp review before, but this place deserves one. I have been going to Shine Cafe for years, but the past few months I've been living away from the area and missing it so badly! Now that I'm pregnant, all I dream about it their black bean tostada. Yes, the prices are a little high, but the quality of the ingredients is only the best, and is made in a clean, positive space with some lovely people behind the counter and the business operation. I'm not vegetarian, but this is honestly one of the best places I know of to eat period. Support this amazing business (especially by buying your groceries next door in their market; I heard they make very little money off the cafe itself.) I was excited to try this vegan cafe. Unfortunately 10:30am on a Sunday is not the ideal time to go. After a long wait (what seemed like long conversations with each customer) they had run out of the tofu scramble and the pancakes would take 30 minutes. So we ended up ordering bagels and coffee, which ended up taking 35 minutes. They were not bad, but it was disappointing to drive 30minutes out of our way for bagels. Oh well. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious and filling the food was. We had tacos and hummus with veggies. Normally I get hungry within an hour or two if I eat vegetarian meals but this was satisfying. The only thing that keeps this from being five stars: It was extremely crowded, cramped, and noisy. It took a long time to be served our food. When we needed something, like napkins, we had to go and stand up by the register and wait for around five minutes each time. read more

Friendly staff, great food! Our first time visiting Morro Bay and will def be back just to eat here! My husband and I shared two different items, the ranchero and the avocado toast. The ranchero was two crispy corn tortillas piled high with tofu, potatoes, salsa and I don't remember what else. Trust me, it was GOOD. Both had us asking "what is this"? Tons of flavor in both! I've eaten here at least 50 times. Being a local, and a vegetarian (well, ok, I eat fish), it's my go- to lunch spot. The food is so fresh, gorgeous to look at, and tasty! Plus, the prices are very fair. For some reason, these guys always have THE BEST avocados ever too! I highly recommend the spring rolls. They are packed full of tempeh and veggies, come with an amazing sauce, and are only like $3 each! Messy to eat, but who cares? So good! I also really love the salads, tempeh tacos, and smoothies. Haven't been super stoked on the soups, but I make really good soup at home, so don't usually find better when I'm out. Don't be afraid of the vegan thing - you will never miss the cheese. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Morro Bay. The Tempeh Reuben sandwich is my husband's favorite dish and my favorite is the black bean taco. We haven't ordered anything there we didn't like. One of the things I miss most about no longer working in Morro Bay is lunches at Shine. Vegetarian/Vegan or not- this place is sure to impress. Everything I've tried (which is the majority of the menu) is fresh and delicious...even my picky carnivore boyfriend says its "suprisingly filling"! Favorites include the spring rolls, tempeh salad and hummus wrap. Shine makes their dressings in house and they are amazing. The cilantro, ginger, and lemon and garlic are my 3 favorite. Oh- and their smoothies are equally delicious and also very filling. The green dragon is my go-to, but the mudslide is also a really delicious treat. The staff at shine is super friendly, accommodating and handles the always-hectic lunch rush with impeccable service. The one time they screwed up my order and forgot to make my smoothie, they offered me a free smoothie on the house for my next visit and were incredibly apologetic about making me wait extra long. It's great to see a local place with service that matches their amazing food. I'll definitely be stopping by next time I'm in the area! read more
