Shiny Nails in Carson has been my go to nail salon for almost 10 years. Peter always does my hands and never fails or disappoints. They always come out perfect. Tony does my pedicures every time and he does an amazing job. The vibe here truly feels like family. Even the other guests have been coming here for years, and we recognize each other every time we come in. Everyone is so kind, welcoming, and consistently great at what they do. I would not trust my nails anywhere else. Highly recommend. read more

I've been back with Peter and I've learned my lesson to call for an appointment. This really alleviated 99% of my bad review. I asked for acrylic overlay on my natural nails. He did exactly what I asked for. I wanted a thin layer, over my natural nail. It was PERFECT. I came back for a fill, so they grew and even looked better after my second time read more

I need my eyebrows done. I came today and the guy the girl that did it was horrible. I asked her to clean it up and she said she was done. I tried to pay the money they said no and I said fine. My eyebrows still needs to be done! The girl that did my eyebrows, I think she was scared because I was in wheelchair. Never going back!!!! read more

This place has gone from bad to worse and I will never go back again. The 2 guys (I think they're brothers) that sit in the front are arrogant and rude. Also, they have a new older woman doing pedicures, she is obviously barely learning and her work unfortunately needs lots of experience before they put her to do pedicures. While I was there, one of the brothers that usually never does pedicures was telling a lady how horrible the dirt in her toenail smelled! He told her at least 4 times and he was loud. The lady was embarrassed and I wanted to say "that's why she's here you idiot!" ... Why would you embarrass someone like that when that's your job! Long story short, I will never go back. Quality has deteriorated and getting treated like they don't need your money is obvious! read more

Writing this as I'm waiting for my pedi to dry lol I got a pedicure with Linda and she was so sweet, did an AMAZING job on my pedicure. I went in as a walk in as soon as they opened and they were already busy!! I can tell all of their customers are regulars which is always comforting knowing people love coming here and return! It was my first time but definitely won't be my last! Highly recommend read more

I love love Sammy, her shop was at K-Town but right now. It's in the outskirts of Pasadena and I do not mind to travel. I love her work on my nails. I love the vibe when I get there. I love the quality of work. When She does my nails. She takes her time and the design she does is amazing on them. I always tell my people and my riders where they can go to get their nails done. I always get good complements from my riders when I'm doing Uber.... I always go to her cause I just love her and the why she welcomes you when you enter her shop, believe me when I say you will love the way she does Your nails. read more

I happened upon this shop on a Sunday when my usual shop was closed and I was so pleased! Sam did a beautiful job on my nails. She listened to what I wanted and was honest about pricing. I had a broken nail and she advised me that a whole new set would only be $5 more than fixing just the one. She asked me if I liked the length, shape, and color making sure that I approved every step of the way and the finish product was just what I was looking for. There is plenty 2 hr parking out front and a whole parking lot right in the back. I cannot comment on pedicures because I only did my nails, but I will definitely be back in 2 weeks! read more

I liked this shop. I specifically asked not to have the same color I came in with. It's the one time I can sit and relax and I did. When I looked up to see the color that was on my nails, I brought it up to the technician and it didn't go well. I asked for management and he spoke to me unprofessionally. Now I have to find a new shop. I'm sad. I forgot my AirPods and forgot why I always used them when I was in this shop. The playlist is explicit. I am very sad that I have to find a nail shop that does nails like this one. Many will go and enjoy. I will just not be one of them. read more

Ask for Tony and Nancy! I've been going here for some time now and their work is amazing! I've also had Evan work on my pedi and he's excellent! Everyone is professional and friendly here. Trust me when I say I've never left with a cut! They know what they're doing. It's best to make an appointment. If not, call first to see how long the wait is. That's what I do since my schedule is always changing. Maximum I've waited without an appt was 15-20mins. They're very good at accommodating you. Vibe is super chill. You can watch the tv's or you can even take a quick nap on the massage chairs! I love that there's even a 7eleven next door so you can grab a snack and drink too! I hope you enjoy your next visit! First of all, only open nail salon in my area during coronavirus. Prices are spot on aka average in the South Bay. Not as talkative and warm..they strictly do their job. I like that because I like my ritual to include silence. I really don't let anyone do my nails but with my birthday tomorrow and the salons shut down I was desperate... John was great with my fill. He did a perfect job laying acrylic powder and keeping my desired nail shape. He cut my cuticles often while he was drilling. Pain is gain though because this is the closest my sets have been to my cuticle. He was patient with my spontaneous design. He even removed all the lint on my nails when I swiped my pants. Overall a good job on paint job except for the lack of an even coat on certain fingers, mostly my ring and middle finger on my right hand. The woman who did my toes (don't recall her name) did a super job. She cut me once while removing skin from my big toe but I only bled a little. Not sure if she was or wasn't pregnant, but I still felt super bad she had to scrub and massage my feet. Paint job was thorough and no bubbles!! She cut and filed my toes perfectly, keeping it just the way I like. I'm picky and super hard to work with! I'm very particular about my nails so 4 stars would be a normal person's 10 stars LOL.. At first when walking into the store it looks a little outdated and it's mainly men working which is surprising for a nail salon. I was pretty skeptical if they would do a good job, but after getting a mani pedi I LOVEEEEEE THEM I went back and will continue to go back for my biweekly nails. WOW! I am writing this review two and a half weeks after I got my dip nails. I had an excellent experience, I don't remember the name of my nail tech, I think it might have been Phu. I appreciated his thoroughness and care taken with my nails. They look flawless even after two and half weeks and I do pottery and fishing with my hands. This is the spot, they get busy though since it's a small operation. Also got my brows done and they look great! Would highly highly recommend, the price and quality of service is on point. I am still sitting in the pedicure chair and I am SO INCREDIBLY PLEASED with my service I couldn't wait to start this review. I came in today for a regular mani/pedi and have now realized that every service I've ever received in the past has never done justice. Tony is my duuuuude. My big toes have always bit a bit ingrown and I thought there was nothing that could be done about that. I was just proven wrong. Not only was so much excess cuticle and skin removed, it was done so gently. And don't even get my started on the massage He's top notch! Went in to get my gel nails removed. The guy said it would be a small wait. I waited 30 minutes, and they took another customer that came after me. I understand people have appointments... I asked how much longer the wait would be and he said another 30minutes. At this point I just got up and left. If you know someone has to wait an hour to be seen, respect their time and let them know. Unfortunately I will not be going back after this experience. read more

This place makes you feel unwelcome. I've gave this place multiple tries since it's near my home and yet everytime I leave feeling uncomfortable and like if I was a burden there. If you're not someone who's a regular here where they know you, I highly recommend you try another place. It's unfortunate as I would've loved to have had a good experience and felt satisfied with their service. But nevertheless I hope they fix that issue of making potential customers feel this way. After tolerating less-than-average pedis from another nail salon for waaayyyy too long, I was ready to find my new go-to salon, and I'm happy to share that I found it! I came here yesterday with my boyfriend to get our monthly pedis. We called 30 mins before coming in to make sure they had availability and were invited to come in. This salon is kind of tucked away but can be found in the same plaza as 7-11. It looks rundown on the outside, and the inside is very... green (and a little dusty)... but don't let that stop you from coming here. As soon as we entered, I was surprised to see that 3 of the 4 nail techs were guys. I didn't mind though because, from the many salons I've been to, I've noticed guy nail techs seem to do a cleaner job than the girls. Strange, I know. Anyway, my pedicure was done by Evan, and he did an amazing job! I asked to keep my nails short and more of a rounded shape, and he did exactly that. My nails look even (I've had first-world problems where the nail tech would make the shape of my nails look crooked or different from each other - LOL), my cuticles have never looked cleaner, and the nail polish is very well-applied. I'd post a pic of my pedi done by him, but people on the internet are weird, so just take my word for it. Haha! read more

Giving it 3 stars since the people there are nice and the person who did my nails is very nice. Price is very decent I got the gel mani for $30. I called in the morning for the same day appt. The cons is the gel started chipping after a day or so (see photos). Which is soo weird gel polish shouldn't chip the next day unless they used a regular nail polish. I didn't have time to come back and get it fixed since I have to fly to Miami and will be back after a week. Also the utensils and towel used are not sterilized and feels like they don't clean it after use either. Uhm yeah no! Thats a big no no for me. Not really recommending this place. I guess you get what you pay for. read more

Anytime I go anywhere other than Shiny Nails, my nails beds are poor, weak, and so much of the cuticle is damaged, but every time I visit here I leave with healthy happy hands. I feel like they really understand quality care and keeping your nail integrity. Everyone is respectful and friendly, but it can be busy if you don't have an appointment, and even then sometimes there's a wait. Nonetheless I'm really glad I found this place, have been a customer for 3+ years. read more

When I first came in, they were upfront about the condition of my nails and explained that the style I wanted at the time would not last because of the health of my nail bed. Instead of just taking my money, they recommended what would be best for my nails and helped me get them healthy again. That level of professionalism is hard to find. My nails always turn out exactly how I want them, and the staff consistently does amazing work. Most recently, I brought my 2-year-old daughter, Kehlani, in for a manicure and pedicure. As you can imagine, getting a toddler to sit still long enough for her nails to dry was not easy! I've been told in the past from this salon that appointments are preferred over walk ins. I'm aware that the salon opens at 10am, so I was expected to be let in maybe 5 minutes after 10, just so the workers had time to set up everything. However, I was waiting in my hot car for over 10 minutes before anybody showed up to the salon. At this point there were 3 workers there, not a single one acknowledged me as I walked up to the counter. Another lady who looked to be a supervisor had to tell the workers to start prepping for my pedicure instead of worrying about setting up the store. If you are not prepared to take clients at 10am, then don't schedule it as an available time slot. Unfortunately, my grievances don't end there. Tram was my nail tech for this appointment. As most people do during their appointments, I put my earbuds in and occupied myself on my phone. I had one earbud out in case she needed to ask me anything or instruct me to do something. Usually the techs ask me if I want my nails cut down or shaped a certain way, but Tram didn't, which I thought was strange, but they came out fine. I was aware she was wrapping up when she put the hot towel on my legs, but I was waiting for verbal confirmation that she was done. She goes off somewhere and I'm still sitting there on my phone, thinking she's getting something or maybe putting things away. I finally look up after about 5 minutes to see that she is sat in a pedicure chair scrolling on her phone. As I mentioned before I was still able to hear and respond since I only had one earbud in, but at no point was I told that the service was done or that I could pay at the front when I was ready. At this point, no one was at the front desk, which is also why I assumed I had to wait. Turns out, she was just wasting my time and I was waiting there for nothing. Once again, the supervisor lady had to tell her to get up and take care of me at the front. I am very understanding of customer service workers having been one myself for a few years, but this kind of service is something that you'd expect from a teenager at their first job. The whole experience came off as very unprofessional and frustrating. Despite the connivence of the salon being close by, I would rather drive a little further to somewhere else that has better quality service.

It immediately set the tone for the visit. When she finally asked how she could help me, I told her I was there for a color change. She looked around, sighed, and said, "We're not gonna have time for you today." I paused, expecting her to offer another appointment or suggest another time, but instead it just felt like, "We can't help you." I said, "No problem," and started walking out. An employee (who I believe was her assistant) ran after me and told me another customer had offered to let me go ahead since my service was something simple. I honestly hesitated because of the owner's attitude, but I wanted to give a black owned business the benefit of the doubt, so I came back. I thanked the customer who let me go ahead, but the owner never acknowledged me. Even something as simple as, "It's been really busy today, but we appreciate you and we'll be with you shortly," would have gone a long way. When it was finally my turn, I sat down and the owner asked, "You're just getting a color change, right?" I said yes, and she didn't say another word. It honestly felt like she still didn't want to service me but was doing so because I was already there. A little while later she yelled across to me, "Hey, blue shirt... what's your name?" After I told her, she said that from her angle it looked like I had my leg resting on the technician and that her client didn't want to turn around. It was awkward, but I laughed it off and once again tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, figuring maybe she was just someone who was a little rough around the edges. After my service was finished, I went to pay. The technician asked if it was my first time there. When I said yes, she then informed me there was a $10 fee because they had to remove someone else's polish. The "removal" was simply sanding off my previous color. My issue wasn't even the fee--it was that it wasn't disclosed before the service started. Any additional charges should be communicated upfront so customers can decide whether they'd like to proceed. So I ended up paying $30 for a simple color changed when I could've just waited and got a pedicure at that point. The final straw was leaving the salon without so much as a "Thank you," "Have a great day," or "We appreciate your business." The owner said absolutely nothing. While I was there, I also watched other customers come in asking for pedicures. They received the same short, dismissive responses and were simply turned away. As they walked out, the owner called after them, "Keep us in mind." Honestly, that's difficult to do when customers aren't greeted warmly, prices aren't fully explained beforehand, and there doesn't seem to be much effort to make people feel welcome. The salon itself is nice, but customer service matters just as much as the quality of the work. A little kindness, professionalism, and clear communication go a long way in building loyal customers. Unfortunately, because of how I was treated, I won't be returning, and I can't recommend this salon based on my experience. I hope this brings awareness to the owner and no one else has to go through this experience

She also walked away after the initial contact and returned a couple times, throwing supplies on her cart before proceeding. Regardless of that, my Zelle payment for tip was also confirmed at 6:54pm. So I do want to acknowledge that my time there was about an hour and a half total from my arrival/ appointment time. There was also not a "light residue" of the scrub left, there was literal exfoliating pieces/ beads and cream that I was able to scrape off my leg with my fingernail. There is no need to note my preferences as I will not be going back. If I had known that later appointments were known to be thrown off schedule, I would've just showed up late so I didn't have to wait. There was no update or follow up. While I understand it is the business owners responsibility to ensure all reviews are accurate, the repeated attempt to disprove what I stated was unnecessary when the issue still stands: my appointment time was not honored, i had literal pieces of scrub and gel on my leg, and someone used a cuticle cutter to PULL pieces of my toenail off without asking me. I understand these services are a luxury; I would not come in expecting to be waited on but I do expect basic communication and respect. The service and response were both disappointing.
