Great service and the pumpernickel bagel was excellent! Egg was soft and delicious. Definitely a great place for cheap and delicious bagel.

Shirley Bagels is busy for a reason! The bagels are absolutely delicious and the perfect way to start a slow, lazy Sunday. We ordered the Nova Lox and the Santa Fe.....both were so good and full of flavor. It honestly set the tone for the rest of the day... a movie and a nap, exactly how Sundays should be. Definitely worth the wait! Will be coming back to try more, so many eye catching items on the menu

Boiling before baking for the thick chewy skin!

If you read my reviews, you can see that I am a bagel expert/snob and I have to tell you Shirley's is every bit as good as the greatly heralded Boil and Bake!! On my way to John Wayne, went by Boil and Bake and completely packed! Went down to Shirley's on 17th and it was packed too! See photos They have two lines, one for pick up for phone and internet orders and the other so we will line is obviously for in-store orders.... Line went surprisingly quickly and got my food surprisingly quickly too! I love how you can see where they boil and bake the bagels right in front of you !! see photo. These are authentic New York style bagels. The boiling gives it the thick and chewy skin that locks in some moisture to keep everything tender inside. Pleasantly surprised that they had pumpernickel so I had one of those double toasted with butter and everything double toasted with butter. The everything had the toppings on the bottom too so full everything bagel experience, whether or not you eat the top or the bottom, this is the right way to do it. Super crusty chewy and full of flavor, literally a perfect bagel! Bagels do not get any better than this, they may be different, but not better. Extra bonus, the unsweetened iced tea was passionfruit? It was excellent.!! I can't recommend a bagel place more highly than I do Shirley's... Next time the cheese or pizza bagel.....

The wait was a lot longer then I expected. Very cute bagel place in Costa Mesa. I ordered a twice toasted bagel with cream cheese on one saide and butter on the other with red onion. I was ok. I don't understand why people don't understand toasted crisp.....anyway, it's better then Einsteins or Bruegers, and filled me up. I did see some unique sandwiches that I will try another time.

Came on a Sunday morning and there were so many people!! It went fairly fast and I think a lot of people go to go because we were able to find some sitting inside. I got the Californian with sausage and it was so yummy! I love how they made the avocado like a thin spread so it was easier to eat.

Great bagel spot! Plenty of small outdoor tables as well and tables inside. Order at a counter and your name is called out to get your order. Bagels were fantastic- lots of great flavors and everything was fresh, including toppings.

Busy place! Sesame bagel with cream cheese was good. The others in my party liked their food also. The inside is clean just not a lot of inside seating and outside not a lot of seating either unless you are a small party. Here vacationing so gave this place a try and it was good.

4th of July Bagel Turkey Avocado
    Lisa K.

I don't always go to Shirley's but when I do, I usually get the Turkey Avocado. Apparently everyone had the same idea on the 4th of July, so when I arrived there was a long line, but it was hard to tell that it was actually 2 lines - one to order at the counter and one for phone/online pickup. I ended up ordering online because the in person line was pretty long. Once I ordered, it was still a 25-30 min wait so I ran over to Starbucks to get coffee. It's pretty packed inside and the workers don't use a microphone so you really have to be listening for your name which was kind of annoying and it's very cramped inside because it's packed. The sandwich itself was very delicious and filling. Just make sure you have a lot of time to hang out and wait if you visit Shirley's on the weekend or a holiday.

So my mom went to this location a couple days ago, my sister tried filing a complaint about this rotting bagel and they refused to give her a refund or some sort of compensation. She kept calling to get in touch with a higher up but they kept ignoring her calls. Don't go to this location, their food is literally rotting, and their customer service is craps. They also tried denying this a kept saying that it was a jalapeño. How is this a jalapeño ??!????!!!!

If you want to wait 30 minutes for your bagel, then this is a great place to go. Bagels are fast but bagel sandwiches today took 35 minutes.

Despite being relatively close to two major colleges - OCC and UCI - this place wasn't as crowded as you'd imagine it would be. They serve coffee, matcha, breakfast foods like breakfast burritos, protein bowls, avocado toasts - but I didn't pick anything to eat since I already had lunch. I shared with the barista that it was my first time here, and he asked what type of drink I was looking for. I told him something iced and caffeinated - and he mentioned his favorite was the Honey Cinnamon Latte - which I opted for - iced, with oat milk. Total was $8.50 including tip. My iced Honey Cinnamon Latte was yummy, creamy, and fantastic! With the oat milk substitute, it sorta tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch in liquid coffee form. It wasn't overly sweet, definitely had a nice kick to it - love this recommendation by the barista! I checked out the rest of the space and used their restroom to wash my hands - it's really a neat space here. Lots of seating. Lots of space. There's an adjacent room that's connected to the cafe called "Flow Space" - which is utilized for small popups and arts & crafts. Neat spot for smaller community members to showcase their wares. Some of the other reviews mentioned no a/c - which had me worried considering we were having a bit of a heatwave lately - but to my pleasant surprise, A/C was on and cold! It was a great escape from the heat. Free wifi - fast enough for a zoom call if you need to hop into one - my speedtest reported download speeds of 17.5MB/s Restroom is clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking - of course, I stopped by a little after 2pm, so already avoiding the tail end of the lunch rush. Only downside is they close kinda early - 4pm - but open up at 7am. Great spot! Will probably be my go-to considering there's ample workspace, plenty of parking, less crowded than other coffee spots in the immediate area. I'm curious to try their matcha the next time I'm here, as well as possibly their breakfast burritos, since photos for that looks delicious.

I've literally tried 3 separate times and been told they simply ran out of tomatoes. If it's that inconsistent, I'd hope they'd take it off their menu and post it as a special. But what bothers me the most is that the service is so nonchalant that it comes off as rude.
