Nothing like a Shirley's bagel on any given morning to start your day. I always make it a point to stop by here if I find myself in Laguna on a morning... Their bagels are good. The prices are reasonable and they have a selection of "fancier" bagels on their display case. The pizza bagel always calls my name but per usual, I go back to my favorite ham and cheese on an everything bagel. I have to try something else next time. I always steal a bite from whoever I'm with and so far... that Californian, the CTA Deluxe bagel, with the avocado, tomato, onions, and cucumbers (add lemon pepper)... bomb. The Pesto Florentine is also another one of my favorites. They get really packed during the summer months, but to me, bagel season is all the time! read more

I ordered one Asiago cheese bagel because it had generous cheese in the middle from the showcase. I asked to have it toasted but it came out nothing like what you see in their displays. It was really dry with some shredded cheese unlike the ones I saw. Not sure what happened?! Bait and switch? read more

Good Bagels, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Everyone enjoyed their food, I enjoyed my food, but it was just ok. If I was in the area and wanted a bagel, Shirley's would be great! If I wanted somewhere to show visitors, probably somewhere else. read more

I first started enjoying Shirley's bagels when she first opened on 17th St. across from the current location on 17th street Costa Mesa. Shirley was a tough NY lady but was always very good to me (I'm originally from NY & grew up with great bagels). I am very pleased that the quality has remained at the level she developed and demanded. I never give 5 stars but considering I don't believe you will find better bagels anywhere in California. i've come here so many times over the last 4 years and i love it. the CDA deluxe bagel is a fan favorite between me and my friends, as well as the iced chai latte! it does get very busy and the bagel options do run out as the day goes on so i recommend going early! parking is also very limited. i would recommend going here if you like bagels :) read more

Easily one of the best bagels I've had! I got an everything bagel myself, and my friend got a sausage and cheese bagel. His was warmly toasted and the bagel was very soft! Good size bagel for the price paid as well. I also got a matcha tea latte and it isn't as sweet as the ones from Starbucks, which I appreciated. They even did latte art on my to go cup too! The bagels were fresh, soft and chewy! I ordered the ABC open face, toasted on sourdough and was not disappointed. The A to B to C ratio was perfect! Shirley's is a small family owned business with a few locations around southern OC. The Laguna Beach one is located in a little business center in the heart of downtown. Parking was a little hard to find, as it is in all of Laguna, but if you drive through the business structure a few times, you're bound to find someone backing out. As soon as we walked in, we were heartily greeted and welcomed. There's a bunch of bagel creations to choose from, as well as the choice of the actual bagel itself. Since I was there for brunch, I ended up with the Veggie breakfast sandwich on a jalapeno cheddar bagel. The bagel was delicious! Tons of cheese and the jalapenos provided a mild amount of heat. I particularly liked that they didn't put TOO much cream cheese on the bagel. There was already lots of creaminess between the cheddar and avocado. It took T-5 minutes to finish. I considered going back for another simple bagel and cream cheese, but my gut told me to wait it out and I'll soon feel the effects. I'm not sure what's going on but this Shirley's is going downhill. Maybe it's the covid atmosphere putting a damper on the quality. I have been going here for 13+ years and my wife her entire life (local). Today we ordered online and we asked for toasted CTAs. The same order we always get. We received what they call toasted according to their new sign. Neither of us has seen this sign before. Toasted to them is basically a sliced cold bagel because that's what we got. I asked them why the bagel wasn't toasted and she showed me the sign attached. I asked for my bagel to be toasted. On top of that, the online ordering system does not allow for this new sign verbiage. So I don't really know what to do when ordering. If you ask for extra toasted it might come up nicely toasted or burnt. My second bagel came back the same style just a little warmer. I wouldn't call either one toasted. It also had a hair on it, which is extra nice. This location has been able to produce the good quality food over many years yet something changed. Maybe it's the 2020 curse. I'm not sure who likes a good cold bagel with no toast in the morning. Maybe time to invest in a toaster. read more

So very delicious. I spoke with Sam, possibly the manager or store owner (I forgot to ask), and he was really helpful and kind. I tried a Wheat Everything bagel with cream cheese topped with avocado. I took a cue from some of the pictures Yelpers posted for Shirley's and sprinkled lemon pepper atop the bagel creation. Tasted fantastic; thank you to the Yelpers who posted such great pics for Shirley's Bagels. We were lucky to find a seat. Popular place on a Saturday morning. Worth it. I had a craving for Cranberry bagels and trust me after living in Laguna for over 35 years I knew Shirley's would satisfy my fix. I normally don't spend $22 on an order of bagels but splurged and ordered for the staff in my office as well. The order was picked up and no cranberry. When I called the rude employee did not apologize but quickly said they don't make them any longer. When I asked why they didn't call the number on the online order she said " oh well". Honestly I would of cancelled the order completely and used the money for a lunch order for my office. I never received credit or any apology only the complete rudeness from an employee. I loved this place for so long but will not order again. The bagels are not as fresh anymore either. Way too hard and very expensive. Very disappointed. read more

I absolutely love Shirley's! It's a very convenient place if you want to stop off for some bagels or coffee. I usually have a really smooth ordering experience. I almost always use the website and order online to subsequently pick it up. 99.9% of the time, I'm very pleased with how efficiently their business is run and the staff is always polite. However, today when I opened up my cinnamon sugar bagel, I noticed a ton of butter on there. Way more than usual! This is not the first time this has happened to me but I think it's unnecessary for there to be that level of extremity in butter. I did not even ask for extra and it still was way more than I could even imagine! It's totally unhealthy and it damages the enjoyment of the eating experience due to grease and elements of moisture. I'd like it if there could somehow be way less as a standard amount as opposed to someone getting extra without even customizing it. All in all, I still support you, Shirley's! My wife and I had the lox, cream cheese, capers, slice of onions and tomatoes on everything bagels. It was wonderful. The bagels were toasted just right and plenty of the everything ingredients that make them so tasty. The cream cheese were generously spread and the lox was of a high quality. The tomatoes and onions were very fresh. The sandwich was served open-faced. It was delicious. A real treat. And the staff were very nice. We'll be back! read more

The bagels are great, everyone knows that. The reason I'm writing this review is because of the gal behind the counter. I'm so impressed with her. She's been there for years; always a smile on her face, always pleasant and welcoming. I wish I knew her name because EVERY TIME I COME IN SHE KNOWS MINE and my dog Lucky!!!! I don't go into Shirleys but maybe four or five times a year and she always, always remembers me. In a world where most of us are feeling unseen, this gal makes her customers feel seen and cared about. What a breath of fresh air. Shirley's Laguna makes you feel like you're coming home; they have the welcome mat out and breakfast is ready to go. Customer service has become a thing of the past, a lost art, the legends of a more civil time until you come to Shirley's Bagels in Laguna Beach. Some people are worth their weight in gold. 1. their hot coffee is very cold and sometimes room temperature and old. 2. during summer the air conditioning system does not work it's extremely hot. 3. either the owners are not taking care of the place or they have no idea of the problems. They don't even bother themselves to buy a new coffee pot to keep the coffee warm. I have got it so many times cold coffee or old room temperature. every time I call them I asked them what's the reason that the coffee's not hot they tell me next time don't worry Finally I decided to put the review because when I called in to say that the coffee is cold and disgusting they told me I am the only one who complained; Which is not true for 4 of my friend's also come over there and they always complain that their hot coffee is disgusting and cold. When I tell them what the problem is they talk back to you and they tell you that you're the only one that complaints instead of taking care of the problem and fix it. they don't even walk outside to see what people say when they leave the store. When someone orders hot coffee they are ooking for hot coffee not room temperature coffee which is discussing and old coffee. We were in town for the weekend and stopped in here to grab some early morning bagels and coffee. It was worth the drive down the coast and was much better than the other bagel spot we had tried the day before. Seriously the best bagels we've had in a long long time. Being from the East Coast I have enjoyed really good bagels for a long time. When my wife and I moved to Orange County in Dana Point a few years ago I tried a few bagel places with little luck in replicating the ones I had in NYC or South Florida, until someone told me about Shirley's. Went a few times just for a bagel, and then took a couple of dozen with different spreads for my turn to bring food to Coffee Talk with the Rabbi at my Temple. Each spread was done wonderfully, flavorful and with Nova spread that plenty of Nova in the spread. This morning on the way back from dropping my son off at John Wayne I stopped for a few bagels and also got an egg, cheese and Bacon breakfast sandwich on a sesame bagel. It was excellent, warm bagel plenty of bacon and cheese an egg. SO if you want a pretty good bagel (almost as good as Esa-Bagel or H&H in NYC or Bagelmania in Fort Lauderdale) then go on over to Shirley's and enjoy. read more

Tried Shirley's on Sunday morning and was really impressed! Better than Einstein's, maybe equivalent or a little better than Brueggers. My friend and I came here for bagels and coffee and we were shocked at how bad both tasted! The iced vanilla latte tasted like alcohol, and after looking it up came to find out that it means there was improper storage of the coffee beans... we seriously had a hard time drinking them.
