I was pretty disappointed with my recent experience at Shish Grill -- I ordered the Falafel sandwich, which was strictly average though the fries were crispy and tasted good. Maybe the meat dishes are better. Other than ketchup all sauces comes at an additional charge. Wouldn't recommend this place if you're vegetarian/vegan. read more

The fries were pretty average, nothing special about them. Beef Shawarma Sandwich w/ Lentil Soup: A lot of you have been on the hunt for good shawarma in the area and this place does not disappoint. If you haven't been, definitely give it a shot. The beef was cooked perfectly, not dry and very flavorful. I did ask for the sandwich to be spicy, but didn't really have much of a kick to it. ( I think I need to start associating songs with my reviews...yep, my new YE trademark!! After searching for my next new spot in the sea of restaurants, I read so many great reviews of Shish Grill, I decided I had to try it out. Upon arrival I remembered this was the old Hawaiian BBQ spot I went to with my buddy a year or so ago. When we walked in the place was nice and clean, a few tables eating and a full compliment of staff behind the counter and in the kitchen. Upon perusing the menu of delicacies, I started with the hummus and the spinach pies (3 mini pies to a serving). For the main courses we went with the Beef Schwarma and Falafel dinners with rice and salad. Hummus: AMAZING, and I mean AMAZING! The creamiest and most flavorful hummus I ever had. For those of you who eat Sabra Hummus from the store, I can never eat that again! I'll be coming here just for the hummus. Not only is the presentation fantastic, the olive oil with it was delicious as well. This is a 5 star hummus all the way. The Spinach Pie, what can I say? Excellent. A medium consistency pastry that's not flaky, but almost like a piroshki outter dough surrounding the spinach filling. Trust me, if you aren't a spinach fan, this does not taste like typical spinach. It's very filling however, so two of us only shared one and took home the other two. Beef Shawarma: FANTASTIC. Tender beef nicely seasoned on a bed of yellow golden rice, loaded with Turmeric. Turmeric is a plant when processed has that yellow color. South Asia and Middle Eastern food uses it a lot and I just love it when used with the rice....which takes me to the rice. Rice: DELICIOUS! The rice was perfectly done, moist, soft, and full of that great Turmeric spice. Every grain of rice was delicious. Falafel: INCREDIBLE. Crispy and crunch butter shell with a deliciously soft center. This is one fantastic Falafel. I used to have to drive all the way to Walnut Creek to get a good one but now this is much closer to home. My wife is a Falafel connoisseur and didn't stop raving about this one and that's a huge compliment. Service was great. Quick to take the order at the counter and within a few minutes we received our starter, then another starter a few minutes later and then our main courses in under 15 minutes. Fast but not for the sake of skipping any quality. The owner is extremely nice and made a point while ringing up another customer to say goodbye and thank us for coming. We drive by Shish Grill daily and ordered from here for the first time today - we are kicking ourselves we waited so long! Their food is absolutely delicious and comes with generous portions. Also love how nice they are (always a huge plus and makes me even happier to support nice local businesses). We ordered the maklouba, lavash wrap and chicken Swarma plate. The meat and rice were so flavorful and tender. We absolutely love the garlic sauce and lentil soup. The cucumber salad with the maklouba was sooo yummy too. 06-14-23. I just picked up dinner earlier this evening. I ordered the falafel sandwich with spicy sauce which comes with either soup, salad, fries, or rice. I chose the house salad. I also ordered kibbeh, hummus, and lentil soup. The falafel sandwich was the best I have ever had. The sandwich was huge and full of flavor. I cannot wait to order this again next time. Typically, I order lamb, beef, and chicken kebab and beef shawarma sandwiches, however, tonight I was reminded how wonderful the falafel is at Shish Grill. Highly recommended! When Shish Grill first opened my wife and I rushed to try the new Lebanese restaurant located just outside the Market Place shopping center in San Ramon. On our first try it was a mess. The owner was so nice and gracious in her efforts that we wanted to come back after they had worked out their new opening blues. So, last night we went back for dinner. There was one table of 4 and one table of 1 besides us during the prime dinner hour of 7 - 8 pm. First off the food is good. The lentil soup is excellent ! The Baba Ghanouj is one of the best I have ever had creamy, smokey, and just the right amount of tartness. The Chicken Kabobs are the better of the meat entrees. Tiny portions on grilled meats. Shish Grill has made upgrades from the first visit such as having real utensils as opposed to the cheapo plastic knives and spoons. However, there is a real disconnect on what type of restaurant they really want to be. The price point at $16 for the combo kabob plate served menalomi plates is expensive. see pics. A fast food concept with limited service the price is very high even with the limited middle eastern restaurants in the Tri Valley. I came here with my old nom buddy after unpacking my boxes in my new office. In short, it's a bit overpriced, but not unexpected for this area, and the food is a flavor Mediterranean treat in an oasis of mediocreness. The place is located near the Marketplace, basically where Orchards used to be and it took over the location of Yanagi 2. There's not much space in there, but it can seat a good amount of people. There's basically two main menu items, entrees and sandwiches. Then it's meat choice past that point from shish tawook which is a chicken kabob, kafta which is a lamb & beef ground together, gyro, falafel, etc. I asked the person at the register which was their top seller. He was like #1, 2, and 4. I went with #1 which was the shish tawook entree. It came out to basically $15 including tax. Uff, stiff pricing. The food came out pretty quickly! With the entree you have a choice of salad or soup of the day, I got the salad which was good! My friend got the soup and he said it was pretty good so you can't go wrong either way. There's a rice pilaf which was light and fluffy and there was also a garlicky yogurt sauce which was divine. It went well with everything. The chicken itself wasn't dry and very moist. Besides the pricing, it was a pretty solid meal. I was content and I had food to bring back home. I'll definitely be back to try out the gyro as it's one of my favorites to try at every Mediterranean place. read more

I'm trying to expand my San Ramon eating, and I was genuinely surprised by this place. I ordered a lamb kabob with a salad, no rice. The lamb was succulent, tender, and perfectly spiced. The pita was whatever, but the salad was great- and the dressing was on the side to make it slightly healthier. My coworkers got souvlaki, shwarma, and a mixed kabob plate. The meats were all great, and, interestingly enough, they have random Indian drinks to go along with Mexican Coke and real Dr. Pepper.
