First time here. Saw this as I was driving by so decided to try. Arrived at noon and there was one waitress. She didn't seem polite and almost irritated when I first walked in. She simply said help yourself and took my drink order. I was still getting food and she was just standing there w drink in hand seeing where I was going to sit. She seem annoyed that she had to wait for me. She checked on me regularly and as Paying, we had a nice conversation. She told me to fill up a cup to go and just standard conversation. She was super nice so I determined she may just be shy at first or whatever it may have been but certainly made up for it. The buffet was good and it was only $11. They don't have an extEnsive selection but I prefer that as I think it keep the food fresher. The food isn't label so I didn't know what half of it was. The salad and veggies were fresh, the beef kabobs was bland and just greasy. Aside from that, everything was excellent. Why three stars? 1: beef kabobs had no taste and just greasy 2: The pitas in the Warmer were ultra hard and only a few in there. Another patron asked for new ones which took 20 mins and she literally placed ten in there at most 3:the gyro meat kept running out and extremely long to replenish. Definitely will be back. Picked up a lunch buffet to go. Good deal at about eleven bucks plus tip. There were 3 dry proteins - beef kebabs, lamb gyro and roasted chicken. There were also a couple of chicken dishes with sauce - one a bit curry like and one more stew like. I enjoyed the curry like chicken and the beef and lamb. The veggies were very tasty, particularly the eggplant dish. Overall I'd be happy to eat here again. read more

This place is absolutely amazing! Delicious, Hot, Amazing food and AMAZING people!!! It reminds me of the food we have back home, some white washed people simply won't understand. Me and my family are Balkan, so we love this type of food. It's really hard to come across a place that has authentic and good Persian food in Dallas, and ever since we found this hole in the wall we come just about once a week. I find certain reviews that people have posted quite hilarious because they clearly have no clue what Persian food is supposed to taste like. Also, there clearly isn't a hostess here to seat you. You walk in and sit wherever you feel most comfortable. I feel like that's common sense. Also, Baba Ghanoush also isn't supposed to be "seasoned" :) All in all, this place is for people who enjoy authentic food at a good price. I will say I'm not familiar at all with this type of food and I wouldn't know what the proper way any of this food was supposed to taste. The food was really good and the owner/chef was constantly putting out food and the buffet was busy with an eclectic group of families and adults. The waitresses were quite inviting and very sweet. I wish the food had some sort of labels to let you know what you are eating but hey it was still tasty. They had tons of chicken dishes, dolma and fresh pita bread was brought to the table at the beginning of our meal. They had about four different chicken options and three different rice options. The had plenty of gyro meat and the beef kabob was constantly being put out fresh and tasty. I seen plenty of families and big guys tearing into some serious meat plates. They were eating and I was the lone guy cheering as I watched the Alabama season get kicked to the curb by a 100 yard run back of a missed field goal. Boom read more

This is one of the best lunch buffets I've been to in a long time. You can't beat $10 for all you can eat Mediterranean food. Mediterranean food comes in different forms, as there are many different countries that border the Mediterranean. The Shish Kabob Cafe focuses on more Persian and/or Greek styles. At least, that is what I think. I am not an expert. What I can say for certain is that there is a great selection of fantastic food. The tzatziki is phenomenal, it has bigger cucumber chunks in it than in other tzatziki I have tried before. The chicken was the winner for me: it was full-flavored and succulent. The surprise for me was how delicious the lamb was. I typically do not like lamb, but was feeling adventurous at the buffet and had a bite. It was worth it. The lamb is utterly savory. There was also a tasty selection of rice and veggies, and the hummus was delicious. Next time I want to pig-out Mediterranean style, this is where I'll go. read more

This is hole in the wall at its best, no frills but good food and even better price. The buffet is an awesome value for ~$10. (FYI, I have only eaten the buffet here and have not ordered from the kitchen but have been totally satisfied.) The buffet selection isn't huge but for the price I think it hits the balance between value and options for me. The staff is also friendly too so that helps. Two stars is a little harsh here, but with so many better options within Richardson alone, I just can't go any higher. It's clearly a place that's geared more towards value than flash, and there's nothing wrong with that. But they need to provide a few more "standards" and less odd filler (kernel corn and steamed broccoli? Really?) on the buffet line. That's not to say that there weren't some good moments. The kebab chicken was primarily (or entirely) thighs, but that's OK, they tasted pretty good. Kebab beef was a little tough but could still be cut with a fork, but it lacked in flavor. Fried fish was OK, not too dry or tough. Probably the best dish on this day was the eggplant; it had a good Mediterranean flavor and texture. The gyro meat was OK, but again, not outstanding. As for the negatives: The bread is not really pita, and not really naan - it's kind of a mix between the two. It was hard to make a gyro with it. The tzaziki was runny and further stymied the gyro. Finally, when I asked about hot sauce, the (admittedly very helpful and prompt) server brought me a bottle of sriracha and a bottle of Tabasco. Hmmm. Ending on a high note, though, was the price. It's under $10 after tax if you drink water, so the price is good. Maybe with some cauliflower, baba ganousche, falafel etc., the rating might be a little higher, but from the selections today, two stars it is. read more

I like this place! We came on a whim because we were in the area. The place isn't anything fancy, but the food is good and prices are even better! My fiancé ordered the gyro (which he loved) and it was only about $5. I ordered the buffet (around $10) which had a ton of options! Gyro meat lamb (so good!), several types of chicken, good salad and veggie options, different rices, and dolma! While the outside and inside aren't the nicest, I'd encourage you to give this place a try. It was so empty inside and I really think it could be a popular Mediterranean spot with some better marketing/social media advertising, good music, and maybe advertising a weekend buffet brunch where you can byob or if they served mimosas. Wasn't expecting this. So delicious the kabob and the homemade yogurt drink. How did I miss this place? Yum. (Sure, the outside of this place is in a vanilla looking strip mall, so common, they blur and look the same at every turn.) And upon entering, I felt as if I may have journeyed into a former 1980's / 1990's flourishing pizza parlor. Inside are vestiges of my suspicions with mirrors and trendy diagonal wood paneling with a raised platform dining area- then quickly juxtaposed with middle eastern home furnishing decor and sensibilities. The featured area was the walk up counter where you order your food. (Which still kind of looked like a pizza counter. But that's just my uneducated opinion with my Rose colored Jersey pizzeria glasses.) The look felt comfy. The humble and small sized heated buffet island was located to the left of the ordering area / counter. Service was personal. The homemade yogurt drink, great. Your food is delivered to your table. 4 Stars for taste 4 Stars for the rose colored glasses So, if you're in the mood for a super low key eatery and seek a bite to eat with a Mediterranean flavor, so stop in. IN a nut shell: Normally I would give a place a second chance, but after spending close to $30 and half was thrown away, I can't justify a 2nd try. I'm actually very disappointed. In this case, it was "fool's gold". I placed my order to go and admired the buffet. I was hopeful that the food was good so I could return and try other items. We got the baba ganoush, cucumber salad and the lamb kabob combo. The Baba had ZERO seasoning. It was pureed eggplant and that was all. We could not eat it. It was supposed to come with Naan and we got "Naan" (AKA NONE) The Cucumber, tomato salad was thrown away as well. The cucumber were ALL bitter. Not an occasional one, but ALL. The rice was fine, but hey, you really have issues if you can't get rice straight. The lamb was actually good, but not good enough to make up for everything else. read more

My husband and I have passed this place often and decided to try it - we loved it. We have had the buffet twice this week! We especially like the grilled chicken and another chicken dish with a sauce that reminds us of an Indian curry. Disposable gloves are provided and people wear their masks at the buffet, so it seems pretty safe to me. Also love the iced tea with spices. The food. It's all about the great food. Who cares if the decor is a bit dated. The service is awesome. Overall the food is amazing and for the price, it can't be beat. We ate on Saturday evening around 6 and it was a good time to go. The buffet was fresh and we watched it get replenished the whole time we were there. Lots of people were taking it to-go, as well or picking up. Buffet price for weekend dinner was ~$10 and it was definitely worth it for Halal all you can eat with plenty of vegetarian and meat dishes. Overall the flavors were fresh for the salads and we really liked the spices in the meat dishes. Some vegetarian sides could have used some more flavor or freshness. I was super impressed with Shishkabob's and wish I'd tried it earlier. It says it is a Middle Eastern buffet, but we wanted to know more specifically where the owners are from. Turns out they're Kurds from northern Iraq, which is awesome. So, Scott (previous reviewer), this is not necessarily a "Muslim environment". The food was the the stand out. What I love about Mediterranean buffets is just how many amazing vegetable dishes there are. Makes me feel like I can fill up with a truly healthy meal. Curried potatoes, spiced beans, spiced rice, salads, soups, lemon hummus, tabbouleh, pita, curry sauce, spiced rice.... and much more. As was fitting, the chicken kabobs were best of all - moist and flavorful inside, with crispy bits on the edges. Really, really good. Order their special tea, and finish it off with the cardamon spiced rice pudding. You can also order off the menu, but I didn't even look at it. The one thing that was fairly bland was the pita. The service was excellent and the place was buzzing on a Sunday lunch. It is not a new, sleek space, so don't take a first-date you want to impress. If you're looking for a good buffet, though, this is a good bet. It's cheaper than Ali Baba but with much, much better food and variety than other affordable spots like Tangiers. read more

Interior is traditional cafe decor trying to look as Middle Eastern as possible but impressions are more kitsch and flea market than bazaar or souk. Layout is traditional deli with a thin coat of ethnicity. Menu posted above cash register looks impressive but had the lunchtime buffet, holding a surprising variety for a rather small-looking offering. All food was fresh and tasty (if in some respects not stringently authentic) and much better than most blah and stale buffet lines. Good selection from tabbouleh to pilaf, curried chicken and fish, lentils, okra, gyro meat. Falafel may be from a package, didn't see any babaganouj. Homemade pita bread available on request. I don't know if this is the finest Mediterranean fare around but it is good quality and satisfying. The place seems not to fill up, so plenty of room and access to the buffet line. read more

The buffet serves a lot of lamb and chicken dishes which have a high protein to fat ratio and little to no beef which in the the koobideh (minced herb meat). It has standard salads and hummus and some Persian soups and salads. Persian food have more sour items to balance with their kabobs relative to what you see at Arab places. The dessert section is rather lacking but healthy none the less, fruits and some semolina pudding. The usual clientele I see around lunch time are TI people and middle eastern people from the area. I lived in Iran for many years and I will attest that this is food is pretty good, authentic Persian food, standard fare. It won't win awards but it is a decent, affordable way for Americans to try this wonderful ethnic cuisine. I frequent this place about once a month. I got to say this place runs through waitresses like they are going out of fashion but all of them have been pretty. It is good substitute to Tangier's up the street (cheap middle eastern cuisine) which IMHO has gone down hill with the new chef. The buffet is about $9 w/o drinks. read more

Weekend buffet, awesome price of $8.99 Love the buffet! - Specifically because there was pickled vegetables. Yum! - Array of salad also available. - Plenty of sauces (garlic, cilantro spicy one, cucumber, and few others). - A few vegetable selections (broccoli, green beens and eggplant which I really loved). - Rice and more rice. - A few curry items (I think there was a tray of just tikka masala sauce) - Chicken, gyro meat and kabob meat (kabob was delicious). Definitely a meal for your bucks! Will be visiting often :) A selection of pastries would be a very nice addition. Only sweets I noticed were fresh orange slices and a pudding of some sort.
